Why does this look so pixelatedThe game straight from opening it for the first time, is extremely pixelated and looks horrible because of this.Version: 1.0.5

Potential wastedThis could have been so much better. The poor graphics, even on high, are disappointing and make you wonder why they couldn’t give a 360 degree camera and landscape controls. The greatest difficulty comes from working out where the enemy is vs actually fighting them. I feel like they could have made the game similar to Vesperia in gameplay style and it would have worked on mobile. While character designs are good, the interactions are terrible, with dialogue that tells us directly rather than shows us I.e. the childhood friend who gives our character a briefing on why he is there that includes his past growing up and enrolling in a school. Why? Just for our benefit, out of place and immersion breaking. We could have learned this through passing conversation later on. All in all I’m the game looks and feels years out of date, another example of how these developers are falling behind, especially compared to other recent action RPGs which this essentially tries to be..Version: 1.0.5

No JP voiceCan you add JP voice instead of the English dub? If this is a JRPG then why not have JP voice and a sub?.Version: 1.0.5

Could easy be a 5 easyThis game is down right great but I have a couple huge issues with it... The BIGGEST ISSUE IS CMERA ANGLE the combat is awesome i love the movement, the way the cut scene's cut in at the perfect moment but, the horrible camera angle has me feeling like a child trying to fond the cookie jar, always trying to look over things im not allowed to a huge a fail, a small fix in options or on the main screen would bring my review up a star instantly. My 2nd issue with this game is the fact you want us to grind costumes i cant see? It makes no sense to even go after the pulls let alone pay for them if im only going to see them in the extra side content, this could be fixed easily with another option in the options to turn on episode correct costumes or equipment correct costumes, and easy star to get All this said i will continue to see how this rolls out and am enjoying the game a-lot but organization and a couple options would make this my favorite game to date and an easy must play 5 star mobile game in my book.Version: 1.1.1

Why verticalFirst off, I would like to say I love the dub actors already they are in many anime and I already love their voices. Butttttttttt!! Why is it vertical the buttons are all like cramped together? Sometimes there's a weird delay when you try to tuck and roll. You can't move the camera. And when you do ults with characters sometimes it just appears off screen so you have no clue what it looks like. I don't mind the whole one button aspect but being able to turn the camera really seems like nothing to ask. I'm still kind of confused on what the summoning is for clothes? Powers? Both!.Version: 1.0.5

Development FailureThe game looks great, but looks are deceiving. The controls are wonky, trying to move the character sometimes you use your dash ability and not always in the direction you are trying to go. When in counter scenes you are in animation lock while tapping the counter icons, however enemies not locked in counter scene with you can still attack not allowing you time to dodge and taking unwanted damage and sometimes dieing. Also counter icons can show-up behind ability buttons not allowing you to hit them and taking massive damage..Version: 1.1.2

Why?Tales of the Rays is still the best mobile 'Tales of' game, as well as the closest you can get to the gameplay of the mainline console titles, but Namco and their usual terrible desicions just throws that away despite the original in Japan still going strong. We could have had that, but they give that up for... this? Horrible orientation, terrible controls and boring gameplay. The home menu's user interface is terrible as well, just a complete mess. If it weren't for the name connecting it to the 'Tales of' franchise, I wouldn't have given this a second glance. Also, this feels nothing at all like the series. It's as if they knew this wouldn't get any attention unless they slapped 'Tales of' in the name. TL;DR just make a Japanese account and download 'Tales of the Rays' for an actual 'Tales of' experience on mobile. I give this game about 5 months before it's forgotten by Namco, per the usual.Version: 1.0.5

TerribleIt's a mess..Version: 1.0.5

TRASHCould be great but horrible for mobile there is not enough space on the screen the controls are not stable at all for you to enjoy combat with different classes because it is insanely infuriating to keep rolling backwards when trying to atk as they are the same button, there are 21 character that you must unlock so you also do not get to choose who you want to play forcing you to battle with classes and characters you don’t like for a over drawn story that takes hours. If you play I bet you’ll only last 1 episodes this game has no replay value as you can not control anything yourself not even your choice of hero. I would really give this game a .5 for graphics but that’s it.Version: 1.0.5

The controlsHmm, I would like to say this is a good tales game. Good characters, good voices, good UI system, good story, good gameplay. However, everyone is complaining how the game is vertical instead of horizontal like most games are. I do get the inspiration to be different than other mobile Jrpgs/rpgs games out there. But for as a super tales fan since tales of destiny(1st tales game). This game isn’t it. If you guys could make it horizontal with full screenplay with both hands. This game will get more reviews and become much more a lasting game than others out there and be one of the best Bandai Namco mobile games. For now I’m going to go stick with reincarnated as a slime for now as that game is the best mobile game you have currently. But all in all keep up the good work Bamco 👍🏾..Version: 1.0.5

Not good, needs polishThe UI needs more polish and is far too sensitive. The main menus are an absolute mess barely functioning and too over the place. The game is far too jagged, clunky and not refined. It was potential, however, needed another few months or so before releasing..Version: 1.0.5

Could be betterIt’s almost like Bandai Namco polished up some random beat-em up cash grab they had in their vaults, reskinned at is a tales game and called it a day. Trash..Version: 1.0.6

Worst Portrait Screen GameplayWorst game to play on portrait mode the controls to move the characters are so not smooth. Waste of a good game.Version: 1.0.5

Good Story Scenes, Bad GameplayFirst, not a Tales game in any meaningful way. Just a Namco mobile rpg with vague brand ties. Game itself, clunky controls, and many characters have short to -long- delays in their action animations. The gameplay will keep it from ever being a -GOOD- game, but the story and cutscenes are fun, some characters are truly interesting, and the gameplay’s not so painful you can’t muddle through for the story. But if playing just isn’t worth it, you can always watch the story scenes online..Version: 1.0.8

Wasn’t sure what I was even doingWhen i started their was no tutorial or anything to learn the game it was just some random screen and a bunch more random screens and I entered a battle nothing I’m just running around in some place.Version: 1.0.8

Not great?Played like an hour, Home Screen looks like a Pinterest board and the controls for characters is weird?.Version: 1.0.5

First thoughtsPlayed through an hour so far into the game and from what I’ve went through I want to say the game seems it shouldn’t have been released yet. It shows potential but it’s downfall will be it’s controls and camera movement. No joystick icon to move character instead uses attack button. Response time seems slow but could be my device idk. It runs pre smoothly though but the fact that you can’t pan the camera and the fact it has no joy stick makes gameplay extremely clunky. If they fix these issues it’ll improve the game drastically. Characters seem interesting but honestly couldn’t focus on their story and dialogue cause I was too busy tryna move the way I want to.Version: 1.0.5

Annoying startSo the game seems cool, the combat is snappy and full of action, but the way they introduce the plot in the first episode is incredibly annoying. Leo’s friends are parental and rude, and I feel like that’s the worst way to start a story: by lecturing the player before they’ve had a chance to even wet their toes. I get that the other two are there to fill me in on what the game is about essentially, but they’re just so incredibly patronizing that it’s hard to even stomach them talking for more than a moment. Every time they get ready to speak it’s “hey Leo, let me point out another one of your character flaws and harp on it so we can move the story forward”. I despise people like that in real life, that expect to be thanked for everything they do, and harp on other people’s flaws like they’re paragons of perfection. Worst possible way to open the story up. Bold, yes, but I think it detracts from the other characters before I’ve even had a chance to get to know them, much less had any time to let them grow on me first. I just drop into the first chapter and as soon as they show up it’s “oh great, we have to help out this helpless baby idiot that we supposedly also respect as a colleague”. Not the best way to introduce a player to your game, but half of them are probably casuals that just play mobile games for the battle gameplay and graphics. Ugh..Version: 1.1.2

Controls feel so wonky...The controls are so wonky. I just question why you would play player movement and attack into one user interface. It would have been so much better if you gave the option to split these controls up. Some characters like Alexandra just feel buggy. There is way too much delay in spell casting (needs faster cast time). To sum it up fix the user interface for controlling the characters it’s very annoying when I want to cast a spell or dash and it doesn’t react!.Version: 1.0.5

Controls, Combat, and CameraThe controls are a bit clunky making it frustrating at times to move where you want to go. The camera auto follows the movement and it can be hard to attack or even know what enemies are out of your field of view unless you run into them. Make it all landscape and add twin sticks or other control system to address. The anime style and voice acting are cool, hope the controls can be addressed..Version: 1.0.5

Clunky and poorly executedThe concept of the game is interesting. You play through 20+ individual character stories. The summoning you do are for weapons, accessories, and outfits to strengthen the characters. The controls, the user interface, the user experience and just basic gameplay mechanics are really clunky and awful. The character designs are uninspired, ugly, and generic. The voice acting is okay at best, but grating at its worst… and it gets grating very quickly. I really wouldn’t mind the boring characters and story if not for the terrible controls. I flick to avoid an enemy and somehow I am rolling away three times instead of just once? Gets frustrating very quickly. Certainly give it a try if you wish, but this isn’t a game I can see anyone playing for a long time if the core mechanics are this unpolished. Keep your expectations low and I guess you won’t be as disappointed as I was..Version: 1.0.5

Great characters, horrible controlsI wish I could say the good characters, dialogue, voice acting and interactions offset the terrible controls but i physically could not handle how awful this gameplay was. The camera is locked behind the characters but doesn’t even move to accommodate when the characters need to take a turn left or right on the path. With the vertical screen, I actually feel like I’m playing half-blind. The movement area is the same exact button as the basic attack button and the dodge roll button, so fighting is awful, and there’s no defense / guard action when you’re being attacked. Tales of Rays played so much better than this actual garbage, which is such a genuine shame bc i really did fall in love with the characters. Honestly even Crestoria plays better than this, and that game *knows* it’s focus isn’t on gameplay. Story and character design + direction is top tier as always but LORD the gameplay made it actually unplayable for me, I cannot enjoy this game for the life of me. Words honestly cannot describe my disappointment. If you can handle the gameplay, then by all means, blast thru this game and i hope you enjoy it!! Otherwise, go in with low expectations on gameplay if you’re as gameplay sensitive as me..Version: 1.0.5

Not quite goodThe graphics is great and combat system as well. but the controls and camera angle are the downside. It’s hard to control when in the field and the camera angle is like a dash cam in my car. I hope this game will last..Version: 1.0.5

Terrible but not the worstThe storyline is too cliche and cringe. The guy that you start with is your typical protagonist that is clueless in which I get, but the dialogues he says is really what you’d expect from a high school student or middle school student. I’ve seen other reviews about how the voice actors and actress was great but could they have been more wrong. They speak like they’re reading a script and there’s not enough passion, especially with the protagonist. Last and not least, the advertising stated that you’re able to play different characters and yet you’re forced to play the protagonist as the first story. I wouldn’t complain it so much if the first story wasn’t like 10 minutes long with annoying voice actors/actresses. If you wanna play an anime based rpg game, just play Honkai impact or Genshin impact. I don’t like Genshin and it’s still way better. P.S almost forgot, they don’t even have the option to change the voices to Japanese when it’s anime styled rpg. My level of disappointment was immeasurable with that problem..Version: 1.1.2

So much potential wasted. The core mechanics have potential, the gameplay seems like it can be complex enough to be fun but….. Everything else is making me cringe. For a game that’s supposed to be story-focused, why did they hire a 2nd grader to screen write? The uninspired character design, the Pinterest home UI — it’s very obvious some out of touch boomer director saw the success of other similar looking games, tried to emulate it, and didn’t have any expertise of their own. The polish is there, the soul is there, but it’s like the entire game was outsourced..Version: 1.0.5

Good game killed by vertical orientationThe game itself is fun. The production value is very high, voice actors are good, music fantastic… but what in the WORLD is this orientation and locked camera…. The gameplay is semi-explorative hubs… but the camera is pulled in tight with no rotational control, and your peripheral vision is completely cut off by the locked vertical orientation… enemies attack you from out of view, paths are hard to see until right under your feet… it’s SO awkward and amateur seeming. On top of that movement and attack are handled in the same screen zone…. Dead center of the bottom, instead of right or left aligned… but then the very short-timing Parry alert is like randomly and awkwardly distanced from that center button. I still don’t know how the devs want me to hold my device to control the game and hit those. Seems like they want you to play with two hands, so then just make it horizontal…. I want to love the game but the devs made some very unconventional design decisions that go against every rule of good UX design and make a frustrating experience. Nothing fun about getting blindsided by an enemy three feet to your left that you can’t see because they’re all offscreen…. An explorative rpg like this needs left and right view WAY more than I need to see more floor and sky.Version: 1.0.5

Horrible…Namco Bandai is on a streak for developing horrible mobile games; they live in their own world and have no idea what their players want. Gave this game a test run… right off the bat, voice acting is sooo cringe. Why couldn’t we have language select option?! Battle controls are bad, it’s an active battle but I have to control with just my thumb? Nothing positive stands out for this game… wake up already Bandai!! Or go back to console gaming, at least you have an audience there….Version: 1.0.10

WoefulBeen waiting ages for this so imagine my disappointment when it turns out to be one of the worst mobile games ever! Portrait mode, it's like Mario Kart Tour all over again! Terrible field of view, enemies just off screen firing at you that can't be targeted properly. Control mechanism poor and unclear. They expect you to have all the dexterity of a console controller on a shabby touchscreen UI. Unbelievably bad. But hey, don't just take my word for it, download, run a 1.5Gb update and see for yourself how dull it is!.Version: 1.0.5

Not mobile friendlyIt’s a good looking game. Fixed characters with equipment gacha which is ok but not real exciting. But the gameplay itself is the problem. You move around and attack really fast which is fine but the screen orientation is vertical. You can’t really see where you’re going on the phone and it makes maneuvering around the map pretty clumsy. The story seems good and I’d like to get more into it but I can’t force myself through with the way the gameplay is oriented. Not very user friendly..Version: 1.0.5

The camera is kinda badI was super excited to dive right into this game, I stayed away from most public news and would just start when it released, I did the basic starting stuff, I went into an episode and couldn’t stand the camera, I’m pretty prone to motion sickness in gaming, and with this, the camera work for this game is poor in my opinion, the camera isn’t just stable with the controlled character in the middle and it can’t decide whether it wants to go left or right, and will start flipping randomly as you are running, making it very distracting and motion sickness inducing, quite unplayable for me with how bad it is at the moment..Version: 1.0.5

I have to think this is a jokeHonestly why would you release this at the same time as slime. Either way the setup of the game makes it a giant money pit. Try again Bandai.Version: 1.0.5

Fix a few things up like the camera and controlsControls feel weird and I can’t even see my surroundings, overall it is fun but not a game I’ll be playing for the long term..Version: 1.0.5

Downloads & character weaponsThe downloading of stories really slows down my phone & overheats it even when the apps just open as I’m equipping my characters. I think the game needs an improvement on Celia with her bow. Like give her some more attack points on her melee, because it’s just a simple whack on an enemy & barely doesn’t anything. As well as the aiming, lower the time at least. It takes about almost 2-3 seconds for her to aim & to get it to the middle circle for an actual impact of an attack on the enemy. Plus with her secret missions, it’s impossible to complete. Especially when most is in a small closed area for a long rang attacker LIKE REALLY?.Version: 1.2.0

Can’t level the characters you wantApparently only 7 of the characters have even their first episode out. I want to play one of the other ones but they only gain experience in their story episodes so… yeah. Bummer. Great story, interesting characters, lousy camera (fixed one direction and vertical phone orientation so you can’t see enemies to your sides) kinda clunky combat mechanics (dodge, attack, and charge attack are all the same button far away from your special attack buttons or where you press to dodge and counter enemy attacks), terrible customization. You have no control over your party in story mode and there’s no way to get more weapons or costumes outside of gatcha. And if you get costumes they don’t even show up on your first play through of a level. So. I think I’ll keep playing it but it feels unfinished and the multiplayer is really terrible, kind of like it was tacked on as an afterthought. All in all, the story is good. Just wish they released all of the first chapters at launch..Version: 1.0.5

See belowLaunches on American west coast 4 November local time . At 501 pm my end In no daylight saving Queensland Australia will be launching on the 5 th November your end as well not the 4th so there. This intellectually disabled Australian has been ( correctly working out time differences between my Australian city & both American coasts correctly for 15 years so there ).Version: 1.0.5

No JP AudioAs someone who prefers playing JRPGs with Japanese voices, this game only having ENG audio is a dealbreaker for me..Version: 1.0.5

Pay 💸 to win with poor cameraIt could have been a fun game, but instead too many sacrifices made it just like any other copy paste pay to win game. Would have rather had a version that focused on the story and avoided daily repetition, even if it meant the game wasn’t free. Camera is terrible which interferes with the enjoyment of the decent scenery and graphics..Version: 1.0.5
