Cityscapes: Sim Builder for Negative User Reviews

Doesn’t sync savesLove the game… but I have iPhone, Apple TV, iMac, MacBook and 2 iPads…. And the game doesn’t sync across any of them (checked all settings).Version: 1.0.2

Fun but buggyI’m updating my original review because some of the bigger bugs have been squashed, but problems remain. This game is a fun city sim that is a great update on classics like Sim City 2000 or Sim Tower. However, the merge function is hard to use and confusing. Most frustratingly, the storyline abruptly stopped for me on cities. I made it all the way to level 100 and never got a resolution to the little story of that town. The bugs continue to be an issue and I hope the devs give an update soon..Version: 1.0.3

Interface in generalI was very happy to find this game. The game itself reminds me of cities skyline but a “lite” version in a way. It’s still very enjoyable however room for improvement in terms of interface. It is very difficult to navigate when you have bigger lands, so sometimes when there are issue arise on the other side of city, it gets missed because there is no indication visible on the screen to inform that I need to resolve something. I think there’s some sort of sound but it sometimes get mixed with other sound effects and get missed. Besides not everyone plays game with sound on all the time… I tend to set the volume down because the sound of siren every time i tap on police building is a bit annoying. Also wondering if there is a plan to add “collect all” for real estate page? clicking on each building to collect V points is a bit tiring… Overall the game is quite nice but would be even better if it is a bit more user-friendly..Version: 1.0.2

SO FRUSTRATINGFirst of all I love this game but find it so frustrating. Placing a factory surrounded by water towers and pumps which are showing way below capacity yet the factory info says it needs more water??? The same with technology required you can surround factories with technology buildings yet the factory says in needs technology and it won’t increase its level. And also when buildings are at MAX level yet you can’t merge them what’s that all about, you end up filling the land mass with buildings but can’t progress unless you can merge the buildings.??. Please sort this out this glitches are spoiling the game..Version: 1.0.2

Good game but not greatThe game is fun until you get people demanding jobs yet refusing to work. My cities keep going under because no one will work even though there are plenty of jobs available, then the businesses close and the houses get abandoned..Version: 1.0.1

Kind of addictive but I’m strugglingI love how quickly you can build a city in this game without having to worry much about money. The overall design is simple and easy to understand but I am really struggling over the problem of apartments needing shops and shops needing shoppers while they are right next to each other. Sometimes the houses are just across the road from the shops yet they still cannot be satisfied and I cannot figure out why. The buildings are all full on water and electricity… I ended up having to remove lots of buildings and my city rating kept declining…..Version: 1.0.0

Just too buggyVery frustrating have to restart it to get it to work with shoppers and jobs. Just doesn’t have enough explanations of what’s going on (not tutorials but why does a building with 5 fire stations right next to it need MORE fire stations?).Version: 1.0.1

Too much tutorial and not enough gameI tried this to keep myself entertained and all I got was constant tutorials. Bored of it now..Version: 1.0.3

It keeps getting worseAfter the last update, I said I was having crashing problems. Those have stopped but now the game isn’t functioning. I will be doing the tasks that are asked of me but I still fail the projects. It doesn’t register anything I’m doing. My approval rating keeps going down because citizens will need jobs, but I will have a factory that needs workers and they don’t ever balance out. Now I had to restart the game because it was giving me error messages and it deleted everything I had been doing in trials mode. I agree with others that a free- play mode would be much better, but only if the constant bugs get fixed. Very frustrating..Version: 1.0.2

Great game but with serious UI flawLove city sim game, this one is very well executed except for a super major flaw. I cannot zoom out to the whole city to see what is wrong, I.e. need for water, electricity, education. I can zoom out to just be able to see a small area of the city and I have to scroll all over my city to check just a single thing. Because of this, the game is currently unplayable for me..Version: 1.0.0

Seems buggy would would be fun if fixedThe first level went okay, but during the second level my citizens started complaining about having no jobs despite living across the street from a factory that was complaining about having no workers? I just got to a certain point in the game and nobody was shopping or going to work so you can’t get any further. Some improvements also could make the game more fun/accessible - The ability to zoom out further, the camera is so so close and it makes it hard to play the challenges to search for the pop ups and just generally is annoying not being able to see more of the city to keep an eye on it, especially with all the nonsense with the no jobs/no workers/no shoppers fiasco. Some parts of the game and menus are very sensory overloading, there’s a lot going on all over the place and it’s hard to follow along to some parts of the tutorial. The industrial buildings don’t fit nicely in line with the roads making it really hard not to waste a bunch of space around them, also the pollution reaches out almost as far as the job catchment area so you have to place houses so close to them that they’re living in pollution, and then the water towers also end up polluted. The fact that citizens won’t travel very far at all for work or shopping is just frustrating, as mentioned above the pollution and then the fact the factories don’t fit in the road units means you end up with empty space wasted all over the map instead of just in one area, you also have to end up with a few spots of pollution instead of just one area. A sandbox mode would be a fun addition for people who want to slow down and just build a city without all the projects and stuff..Version: 1.0.0

Fun but BuggyThis game is a lot of fun, but crashes a lot, which means replaying parts if it didn't cloud save in time. I don't understand the entire merge concept - I know this is the hot mobile game mechanic of the moment, but I don't see the value here. If it didn't crash on a regular basis, this would be a 5 star game - but with every crash comes a long load time, so it's 3 for now..Version: 1.0.2

-1 social ratingNever lock player out of controls and “hey checkout city pass” him to death. Learn how to do game design, noobs..Version: 1.0.3

Fun, but…So the graphics are nice but the game is lotsa confusing. Merging is incomprehensible. It can be difficult to know range of effect for buildings. And so many building types! What’s good, what’s not — sorta random? Or not? Hard to know. Also, the story line just peters out, I guess — got to level 100 in Glacier Glen and Lord Moneybags (really?) and his stupid cat still run the show? Who knows, and, more to the point, who cares? Good programming, bad stories. Hire a writer to make things matter..Version: 1.0.3

Potential, but.....As with all city builder sims, I find this incredibly fun, BUT there are so many issues with pop-up bubbles not corresponding to the figures in population/job/commerce. If they can fix that so that it would be great. I would love a bigger zoom out, because doing the day challenges gets practically impossible when you can't see the whole map.Version: 1.0.1

Addictive and saddeningDefinitely the game I was awaiting since the  Arcade launch. As it’s just the beginning of the game version (1.0.x), there is still some here and there to fix, especially with the connection between devices (tv and iPad in my case, I lost many cities, 2 over 250 000 population up to now). Also, it crash a lot and make all my device hot and feels like an old Pentium 95 (I got the latest TV box and iPhone of Apple). I wonder if it could be possible to zoom out to see the entire map, or if it could eventually have pieces that fit between diagonal street and triangle that it makes sometimes. Maybe I’m just too deep in that game. On one hand it disappoint me to loose a city of 385 000 but I assume developers are working hard too make that game better. I’m one of those who read the change log of apps update and waiting for your next update..Version: 1.0.1

Server Restarted!Server keeps getting “restarted” when I’m playing! VERY annoying!!.Version: 1.0.2

Attempt resume game, blocked by multiple tutorial prompts to access other menu items.Tell me you mainly build F2P trash games without telling me you mainly build F2P trash games. I do not care about your battle pass, or in-game currency, this is an Apple Arcade game for crying out loud, I pay a premium to avoid this sort of rubbish..Version: 1.0.2

Good overallGreat game up until I hit the point where I can’t merge any residentials because I need more max level buildings? I feel like I have an absolute ton of them.Version: 1.0.2

Shame about the crashesI really like the game, but I’m only on level 43 of the introductory module and the game is now crashing every few minutes, not allowing for any kind of satisfactory gameplay. I’ll try again after a few more updates to see if the bugs are worked out….Version: 1.0.2

Great game, needs a bug updateFirst off, this is a super fun and addictive game. Thank you devs. Been playing this with my son on mobile, we tried to play in Apple TV together but using a controller support was not very user friendly. The problem we found is that the more you progress the slower the game takes to register your actions. I gave up on a late game city due to citizens downvoting for no jobs available when there was obviously many jobs. Please fix 👍.Version: 1.0.2

Fun game butLove the game. Lots of fun. But didn’t realize it would drain my battery in like 20 minutes..Version: 1.0.2

Too buggy to fully enjoyThe merge doesn’t work properly and it is frustrating that you can’t zoom out. Also I have found that people need jobs but factories need people and they are close by so it doesn’t make sense. Other than that, really like this one and has loads of potential just a shame some major flaws are ruining game play.Version: 1.0.1

Needs polishNot quite there, but each update is adding that little extra. My main annoyance is my iPhone and iPad don’t sync saves, so I have to use 2 different profiles and can’t continue progress when I’m on the move..Version: 1.0.2

Not what I expectedThis is much more of a city manager than city builder game. Your city will always be the same square design in order to be efficient with the space you’re given. The layout of your city will be more about placing buildings that the citizens demand more than it is about the actual design of the city. Also, I’m sick of the sustainability propaganda that this game loves to shove in your face. “Mining bad”, “wind farms good”. There’s enough of this irl, we don’t need it in games too. Wind farms require a ton of mining too you know? And have killed many endangered animals? And that natural gas is a relatively clean source of energy? And so is nuclear? But of course these facts don’t go along with your agenda..Version: 1.0.4

Very funThe game is very fun and challenging. The only problem with the game in my opinion is the way that the town people/shops/factories will tell you they need more of this or that. When you put more in though, it takes such a long time for the game to register and, more often than not, you end up with an abandoned building. Star rating would be five stars otherwise..Version: 1.0.0

Great Concept, Too Many IdeasThis is a really nicely designed game, visually. Great graphics and very easy to interact with. However, whilst I appreciate some complexity to these kinds of games, for me there is just too much going on. Too many options, too many different challenges, too many interruptions and tutorials. As a casual gamer, this won’t be one for me. If I had hours to sit and study my city strategy, I might feel differently..Version: 1.0.1

Multiplateforme issuesHum. Unable to launch my game on other platforms ( iPhone and iPad mini ). My game is on a iPad Air … when I try to play on my other devices - I have to start over..Version: 1.0.1

Great game but…Bugs are my main issue, love the fact that i can unlock different buildings and it does fully hold your hand when being creative. The bugs are extremely annoying like I can’t merge buildings and some buildings require something and even if i build or upgrade the buildings they it wont get fulfilled..Version: 1.0.2

Good game but merge not workingI was enjoying the game a lot. Then the merge function stopped working so now I have green arrows all over the city but when I try to merge I get a message saying I need more max buildings. I have at least 10 max buildings which show in the merge panel. This is annoying enough to make me stop playing. It seems to happen once you get to a certain level..Version: 1.0.0

Fun, but Very BuggyThe core gameplay of Cityscapes is excellent, and I really love the progression system: you steadily unlock new buildings, larger buildings, and more systems to manage as your city grows. It’s really satisfying to see your small town grow into a city with a whole new set of needs to manage. My biggest complaint, though, is that the game is extremely buggy. It crashes or freezes up frequently, sometimes specific elements of the UI will stop working until the game is restarted (ex: buildings will no longer allow you to move their placement location), and at one point fairly far into the game the app crashed and all my save data was lost, forcing me to start again from the tutorial. I don’t seem to have any issues like this with other apps or games. Aside from some small UI complaints (I REALLY wish you could zoom out further), the bugs are by far my biggest complaint about an otherwise very good game..Version: 1.0.2

Problems with factoriesThere is a huge bug in the game, the tenants need work, you build factories for them, but they simply don’t notice them and continue to demand work, as a result, I have more than 2.5 thousand vacancies for work, but the tenants still need it and no matter how much I build factories it doesn't help, it's terrible.Version: 1.0.1

Good effort, but disappointingI think we all know what a city simulator game is all about and what to expect. But do the developers? While the concept is fun and engaging, this feels buggy and unfinished. A few specific let-downs with this game: - No way to re-start a campaign level. - No ‘mass delete’ or ‘select multiple’ for buildings and infrastructure. (Selecting each and every tiny little parking lot to delete and then replace with an upgrade is monstrous.) - Also no quick access overview or ‘heads up’ overlay that shows city metrics. (You have to enter the buy menu to get only some info.) - Since access to metrics is unreliable, it’s strange that you can still score poorly for catching a low metric and placing the needed building in time. (The game often doesn’t seem to register if you’ve built extra housing/shop/jobs until it’s too late.) - The purpose of spending the points that you accrue on extra buildings is poorly explained and kind of confusing. (I guess you have to ‘buy’ each special looking building individually? When you use one, that’s it gone.) - It’s obvious this game was made with micro-transactions in mind for a later non-arcade release, but the point of why it matters that buildings are unlocked isn’t really clear. - City maps are massive, but you still can’t fully zoom out. I’d pass on this title until they work out the stuck points, which is a shame. I really hope a later update addresses the points above and makes the game more fun to play..Version: 1.0.1

Control buttons!Lovely game with huge potential but Is there a way of changing the buttons on Apple TV? And I see also annoying on the iphone with a controller. It likes the R2 button as the action button and no apparent way of changing that. Means my little man struggles to play - wants the A button to be the action button I would find that more comfortable too. Could not find any options in settings on either platform..Version: 1.0.2

Repurposed micro transaction gameI was expecting sim city, but instead got FarmVille. Recommend Outlanders instead to anyone looking for an engaging sim game. This game is very very dull. It’s clearly just a hastily repurposed micro transaction game. The pacing is very off and you basically have no real control over your city. Very disappointing and rushed job to make it into Apple Arcade. The other sim games in Arcade are significantly better. Personally, I suggest you give Outlanders a try!.Version: 1.0.3

A bit annoyingThe gameplay is very similar to simcity and doesn’t offer anything unique or exciting. I HATE that I cannot zoom out and see my entire city. It. This, combined with the constant push to build more buildings when I already have more than enough, makes the game feel too overwhelming. I don’t think I will be playing this game until I can at least zoom out..Version: 1.0.1

Buggy and crashesThe game play was strategy is good, was getting to grips with the first town you have access to. As progress was being made this is when problems started. It keeps crashing, when you go back in to load the city it crashes again and again and again. Then moved in the first unlocked town after placing 8 eight buildings it crashed again and the same thing happens when trying to go back into it. Crash after crash. We are using iPad Pro and iOS is up to date. Please look into and fix..Version: 1.0.3

Addictive but confusingVery easy and addictive game. But I have residential buildings saying they need shopping capacity and shops saying they need thousands of shoppers 🤷‍♂️ all connected to roads and bus stops at both locations. Help me out! Also I will complete some of the projects but it doesn’t recognise it so occasionally I will have to complete the task twice to get the reward. I understand the game is new and it is lots of fun, but has some glitches. *** Updated *** So I have played since the updates, and although it’s better I’m still getting issues with shopper/workers. Which I can close down and go back in and it resolves but not really a solution. Also getting the issue with merging which is annoying.Version: 1.0.1

Terrible UIGame has terrible UI - like it was designed for a mouse and then ported to touch screen and then ported to tvOS. Touch Screen - requires too many interactions with the screen to do things - requires active closing of panes rather than click off TvOS - does not use common controls, everything is controlled by pointer, no fast keys to open menus, all the build menus require you to move the pointer, click (with R2) to open the menu, move the pointer click and drag with R2. Game almost unplayable and so slow you can't progress. There seems to be a bug - residential units demand retail, you can build a huge retail unit right next to it and it gets ignored and the residential unit then requires rebuild/repair..Version: 1.0.2

Glitchy and repetitiveThe game started well but each new map starts the same way and there is no variation between building types and the order you can unlock things, so it can get boring fast. If you try to edit your city to move building types together or make cosmetic improvements it crashes. I constantly get ‘the server has been reset’ messages which causes the game to shut down. This needs a lot of work..Version: 1.0.1

Potential here, but animation & art direction are awful. The actual mechanics of this game are decent, but it’s let down by a mediocre sense of art direction. They have opted for a more graphically intensive sim builder than pocket city 2, but… it just doesn’t look good. The colour palette is dull and the buildings look like they were designed A.I.; boring and unimaginative. Another thing, they have an in game currency set up which feels like the same sort of mechanics built in pay-to-win games. You can’t spend actual money in this game yet, but it feels like they have left this open to seamlessly integrate micro-transactions at any time. It’s a shame because the game feels like it could be good if it weren’t for these shortfalls..Version: 1.0.0

Good but can always be better!First of all this is such a good good game! But I would just like to make a few suggestions. Since I’m new to the game I’m not sure if you already have this but I think a sandbox mode would be nice. That way you can imaginatively creat whatever without having to worry about the cost and taxes. I would also like a first person option so you can explore your town freely and feel like another citizen! Sorry this review is so long, love your game thanks!👍.Version: 1.0.0

The only challenge is remembering what you were doing when the game crashedAs others have remarked, this feels like a free-to-play game (the weird special currency and the fact you can’t restart a game are dead giveaways, as is having to wait 2 minutes to unlock a region). But it’s a free-to-play game where the initial rush of getting stuff done never stops, and it’s exhausting. In Cities:Skylines I’ve spent hours just watching my city, or sitting on buses or trains going through it. You can’t zoom out in this game, and you’re constantly on the look for alerts that a building is in trouble, so you can’t relax. But there’s also no challenge, because the answer to “is my city making enough money / what should I spend money on?” is “do the random task you’re being asked to do and you’ll get more money than you know what to do with”. Presumably in the free-to-play version upgrading buildings etc. would take hours unless you paid real money; here it takes seconds. And did I mention that it crashes? A lot?.Version: 1.0.2

GreenwashingSays it’s about building more sustainable cities, but misses the point of sustainable infrastructure. Building fewer or shorter roads is not a goal for sustainability if cities are still clogged with cars. This game won’t even let you build a house if it’s not on the side of a road. Replacing car traffic with bikes and trains is sustainable design. Replacing buildings that stuck up electricity with passive cooling and layouts that optimise for the position of the sun throughout the day will do much better than placing more wind turbines. Allow us to do these things instead of building huge roads everywhere..Version: 1.0.2

Fun game impossible to advanceThis game is a lot of fun but it will not allow workers to go into factories that need workers and it’s extremely frustrating. I even try to move the houses that say they are unemployed to right next to the factories that need workers and it still does nothing and they both keep shutting down. I keep wanting to play more but this glitch is really bad..Version: 1.0.2

NopeHaving played games like Sim City and CitySkylines this game is excruciatingly awful. Can’t zoom out. Can’t restart. No sandbox. Awful. Obviously a free to play game that I’ve spent subscription on..Version: 1.0.3

Crashing on ipad!It keeps crashing and gets out of game and I should start from one day ago in game play! Sooo frustrating! Fix it please as I came back to the first spot every 10 mins..Version: 1.0.1

Phone overheating and battery drainingI love this game but since the latest update, whenever I play the game my phone battery drains and the handset itself gets really warm. Prior to the update, it was fine. And if it gets sorted out, this is a great game - nice brain switch off after a busy day..Version: 1.0.2

Can’t see the whole cityYou cannot zoom out nearly far enough. I want to see the city I have created but can only see a handful of buildings at a time, and it is annoying to have to scroll around the city instead of just zooming out more. I just want to be able to see the city I have built, which is the point of the game!.Version: 1.0.3

Some problems to fixAt first sight, the game looks great. But I can’t pass the first request, I can see the cars moving but I can’t do anything. The game is not responding, I tried to restart the game but same problem.Version: 1.0.2

Missed the markI feel like this game was rushed, so many issues with gameplay and repetitive things. The in game tasks are the same things over and over, and the different buildings don’t really do anything, and the ‘needs’ make no sense and buildings start randomly failing. Anyway, needs a lot of work before it can properly compete with pocket city..Version: 1.0.1

Addictive and fun but….I really enjoy playing this game. But we need to be able to zoom out further. So if there is an issue the other side of the map you can get to it easily. Also a way of easily identifying buildings and their coverage. For example to zoom out and see where police stations are and their coverage, or water, of health etc..Version: 1.0.4

Battery LifeI really like this game but it does burn through your phone battery. I plugged it in to charge while playing - my phone (iPhone 14) got so hot it literally sent me a message saying it stopped charging and will resume once it cools down. No idea why this game would take enough processing to overheat a phone. It's mindless fun though!.Version: 1.0.2

Too restrictingI like hte concept and the art. but id recommend a clickable zoom in and out option, and having dawn force you to do things with no way to skip is highly irritating..Version: 1.0.3

Typical mobile gameSeems like a very bland, cookie-cutter city builder that has nothing interesting or unique to offer, though I didn’t get too deep into it because the bits of dialog that string you along are so poorly written that they just annoyed me. Don’t have characters just for the sake of it. If you can’t write good dialog, use basic text prompts for guidance, context, and instruction. And if you’re going to make a city builder when so many others already exist, the first objective should be creating a unique aspect to the gameplay that makes it interesting in some way. Either a compelling gameplay twist, an extremely high quality execution, or a thoughtful/engaging premise. This game doesn’t seem to be trying to set itself apart from others in the genre, and I’d say it doesn’t match the others that came before it..Version: 1.0.0

Hooray Progress Wipe!I logged in on to my iPhone this morning after playing exclusively on my iPad, just to see how everything worked. Everything checked out, got my daily rewards, etc and I logged out. Tonight I logged in and the game asked which save to use. I figured I’d select the iPhone save since it was the most recent version. I go to select my latest campaign, where it lists the population of my city at 513,000 and at level 54, but when the city loads the population is now 343,000 and I’ve lost all kinds of progress. The core of the game seems to be fine but the bugs are still crazy bad. Buildings that are supposed to boost the range of education instead display “+7 water range” when deployed. If there’s a timed task to reduce pollution or increase transit ridership I know I’ll miss out on those because they’re impossible to accomplish. But really, if clouds saves are going to be used they need to actually work..Version: 1.0.3

Good but could be betterThe game is good and has lots of potential but to me it’s a bit to tedious and over complicated I find placing every individual house annoying and there’s no sandbox mode. I think the devs should give pocket city2 a go and take some inspiration from them sim city and cities skylines on pc. A but do tweaking and a few changes and the game will be too notch.Version: 1.0.0

Love it butIt crushes all the time..Version: 1.0.3

Some bugs worked out, but others remainThe app continues to crash whenever I pause a city so that I can make major edits around the city. Also, there are weird coding glitches that randomly appear, instead of the text that was meant to be there. Lastly, weird stuff happens when you build close to the edge of an elevated area, like a road. It will only show half of the road because the other half will appear to be in the adjacent hillside..Version: 1.0.3

Not for people who have other interests/responsibilities in lifeIf this were the type of game I had time to play, I would literally never leave the couch. I can see how some people probably enjoy this game. First, it’s on Apple Arcade, which I appreciate, but the game is too needy. And by that I mean there is no way to set up your city & just let it run on its own without hovering over my gaming device & manually collecting/upgrading/building/moving buildings constantly. Sure there’s a pause button but if the game’s not paused I don’t have time to play any of my other games simultaneously..Version: 1.0.3

Terrible game play! Why can’t I zoom out and see the whole city? So frustrating having to constantly be navigating around the city to find anything, it’s difficult to understand the city as a whole. Uhg! 🙄👎 🤢 But the absolute worst part is that the game play feels soooo much like a “pay to play” game with all the pop up talking heads and NON STOP push to progress! Build! Build! Build! Upgrade this! Upgrade that! Build another school, even though you already have more than you need!!! Build another garbage dump, even though your current one is already 3 upgrades beyond your cities capacity!!! Build! Hurry Build! Nag nag nag! Don’t kid yourself, you’re just a puppet Mayor. The pop up heads are running this city, not you. This game is an unsatisfying, stressful and frantic way to waste you’re time. 🤮.Version: 1.0.0

Great potential but…Game crashes a ton…about every 20-30 minutes and doesn’t save changes so work needs to be redone, also you should be able to zoom out more to see your whole city, scrolling all over to see everything is frustrating and causes time sensitive thing to be missed. Removing the “merge” icons when you aren’t actually able to merge anything would help clear up an already busy screen!.Version: 1.0.3

Sim builderGood game, howerver keeps crashing saying server reset..Version: 1.0.3

GlitchyThis game started out really fun. Unfortunately, it is so glitchy and illogical. For instance, you’ll have sick people… nevermind they live right next door to a doctor’s office with space, so you upgrade the doctor’s office just in case… won’t work… the place will still shut down. The seems like there is an intention to have a balance between the shopping, residents and jobs, but it is so illogical. I expect it has something to do with the buildings leveling up, but you have zero control over that so balancing them is impossible for more than five minutes. No matter what you do, your city is going to get shut down. My biggest pet peeve is not the game play, but another bug. I play this game and all games with the sound off. For some reason as my city begins its inevitable shut down the sound kicks on and after EVERY SINGLE action the people BOO! Not only is it annoying, but demoralizing as well. Booing? Really?!? I’m done with this game..Version: 1.0.2

BugsBuildings keeps demanding workers/shopper after putting up commercial and industrial..Version: 1.0.1
