✓ Please Remove the "Pro" BadgeReasons: 1. It's tacky. It's the only app I have that still does this. It's not 2010 anymore. 2. I purchased the product before the badge was added. I would not have bought it with the badge present; I would have bought the free version & made the paid updates. Now you've changed it to include a badge. ✓ Doesn’t go to selected wordRecently I’ve noticed that when I search a word and pick it out from the list, instead of goi. To that work it jumps to a different word (word of the day maybe? It’s completely different to what I search for). I always used to rely on this app when I was reading a difficult text and needed to look something up, but the glitch is making it difficult and so I’ve reverted to using google instead. Updating the app doesn’t seem to help. I’ve recently updated to iOS 14, so maybe that’s the issue? It’s frustrating, I hope it start working again normally..Version: 8.4.2
✓ Was better before so many modifications with updates the past 2 yearsThis dictionary app was selected because of Oxfords reputation with their printed book dictionary. I have used an Oxford dictionary for over 50 years. They include the origin of most words below the definitions. I find origins interesting. So it was with this app until early 2019. Now along with the word of the day are several other "features". Apparently these are for people with time on their hands. That said I did enjoy the feature to make 10 words with 8 letters. However, many words were not acceptable in this challenge but were included in the dictionary part of this app. Where is the logic in that? I'll be looking for another dictionary app for my phone that contains JUST a dictionary and word origins..Version: 9.0.0

So to say ‘don’t use this word at all eg fat as it can denote other meanings or judgement is also to deny the existence of the word and the fact it still has an appropriate use..Version: 7.5.29

✓ Illogical and difficult as they miss the main reason anyone's would want a dictionary app.I will be switching apps. If they don't fix the inability to switch between the favourites list I have created and the definition of each word why would anyone bother to stay with this inferior app. We create a favourites list so we can study and review selected words. It's just to much work, vs other similar apps that make it so muchMore efficient to logically switch between a word and its meaning in the favourites list..Version: 7.4.4
✓ Almost perfectOne of the best apps of its kind out there. What would improve it massively is the option to hear word pronunciations in a British or ‘neutral’ European accent. As a wordsmith I like to hear how they are pronounced on both sides of the Atlantic for comparison and contrast. I’m sure this would have a massive appeal and result in more downloads worldwide. Also consider updating the American voice over as the current one sounds outdated, old fashioned; a bit like a 1980’s News Anchor!.Version: 7.5.29

✓ Used to be my favorite appThis is the perfect example of ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’. What was once my very favorite app, and used for all my writing, is now INCREDIBLY confusing with their latest update!!! I understand they’re trying to compartmentalize the results to your word, but all they’ve done is make it confusing by taking the thesaurus results out of alphabetical order and organizing them into colored boxes and groups based on relevance. They’ve taken something simple and made it unnecessarily complicated. If there is a setting that switches from ‘relevance’ to ‘alphabetical’ please let me know. ✓ Old UI was betterI hadn’t updated this app in over a year because of the bad reviews. I liked it the way it was and the icon was more pleasing. Somehow the app got updated on its own today automatically after I changed some settings, and good lord! The dictionary still works fine but the thesaurus gives me headaches. It’s all flashy and colorful. Why the change? This is a reference app not a gaming app. Simple and clean like a regular dictionary makes it easier to read. Now I gatta look through all the circled words trying not to get distracted. Kind of annoying. Wish I could downgrade just the thesaurus..Version: 9.11.0

✓ Good and not so goodAs a normal (not linguistics or writer or anything serious) but everyday user of this app, I like that it has pretty much every word I look up. I also like their packages like rhyme dictionary, etc. What I don’t like is how sluggish it is. When I’m busy I just need to look up a word really quick and move on. But sometimes it takes forever to load—I’m guessing because it wants to load the other app features like the word of the day. I think there should be an option to not load that stuff and get to the core business of looking up a word. One feature suggestion is maybe including word relationship (not sure what this is called), but I’m talking about parent words and child words. “Language” would be a parent or grandparent of “word”, conceptually. I hope this make sense. Once again, I’m not a linguist or anything like that. :).Version: 11.6.0

✓ Room for improvementHey guys; When you look under the search engine of the Dictionary app, you will see several menus to choose from such as: pronunciation, show you IPA, Favourite & more, also just below these menus, you also have Definition, Treacherous, Learners, Origins, Examples, Grammas, Encyclopaedia, Idioms and many other menus, unfortunately, there’s none for Imageries or videos. I think it’s necessary to include these information! Perhaps you can also include short videos relating to the definition of the word! ✓ I love this app, but. . .I would gladly give this 5 stars, however, after having to sign in every time and finding it almost impossible to restore my purchased status, it’s so difficult to access to my saved word lists and the practice modes that I became accustomed to. The ads are very disruptive. This app is well worth the premium, when it works. I would even consider paying an annual subscription, but the experience has become really tiresome over the past couple of weeks. ✓ Destroys with recent updatesI have gone months without updating this app, and finally got around to it tonight. What have they done??? The latest version is a disaster. It is gaudy, cluttered, and designed for people with hummingbird attention spans (to be fair, that is most people nowadays). The old version was fantastic. You could easily toggle between thesaurus and dictionary, and pull the information you need without needless flashy graphics and distractions. I used it constantly as a writer. If there were any way I could get the old clean, clear, straightforward version back I would happily pay a premium to do so..Version: 9.10.3

✓ UPDATE — Love it, no BUT about it …I’ve loved this app for a long time now. I use it dozens of times each day. I’d give it 5 stars in a heartbeat BUT for the new popup that wants to “personalize” my experience and track me across apps. I get if you ask me once. But I shouldn’t have to repeat myself every third time I go on each day. Learn to take no for an answer, please! I’m ready to delete the app and find an alternative. The developer responded to my review. Apparently, Apple now requires developers to share these notifications when there are ads in the app. I wasn’t aware of that. ✓ WordManPaid for an add on, then another. Next a fourth and fifth sold as a package with one I already paid for. Discussed with them. No intelligent response like I was speaking Liechtensteinian if they have. It’s like $2 for one $6 for two and $18 for. No understanding that they’re charging their best customers the must. Also, I bought their idiom dictionary and put in a dozen idioms. Their response to my frustration was to send me one idiom with a tone of “here’s one.” At that point, I realized I lost about $20 and was puzzled as to how they wrote a fairly simplified dictionary .(wondered what their source” was because it was realized a valuable lesson for $20. The dictionary was six dollars and and the remain $14 was worthy at that price for more caution and within a year of my story Apple as lots of choices of dictionary seemingly at no cost I guess it’ll have a fee or ads as that seems to be the Apple wsy. I Have NO criticism of Apple and every (I guess usually) they are the King or Queen or both of one of the best soft and hardware tech firm companies if you’re retired. I’m a technology actuary and except for word processing/graphs I like to be the boss and run a PC instead of Apple running me. This is too long and will be more susinct..Version: 7.5.29
✓ Constant crashing is the biggest flaw... but not the only flawBoth this and the free version constantly crash. Like others, I found the advertisements incredibly frustrating and vastly excessive, but as a writer, I decided to invest in the pro version. What I discovered was an app that should be better, but is plagued by numerous flaws. The crashing occurs often and is obviously frustrating. So much so, I started referring to my Alexa for word information instead. I have also experienced the app stating I need an internet connection when I’m clearly connected and with all other applications working on my device. The voice recognition for looking up words is also inferior, and results in so many inaccuracies, it cannot be trusted to be useful. Lastly, I tried to download the offline version via the app settings multiple time unsuccessfully. I wanted this app to be great, especially after paying for the pro version and utilizing the website, but it’s just not at this chapter in its existence. ✓ Crashes, doesn’t load.This used to be a good app, I’ve had it for 6 years. Since then it has only gotten more and more buggy, also lots of words that most definitely exist do not show up and cannot be found. The widget is broken often and must be reloaded a few times to eventually work. Sometimes some words come up and are explained in a biased tone (unfortunately I don’t have examples at the time of this review) but comparing the definition to a google search definition demonstrates it well. ✓ AnnoyingI used to like this app but after recent updates it has become incredibly annoying to use. I scroll down to read the definitions of a word and the top part of the page suddenly expands to hide half the information. Sure I scroll up again and the information fills the screen again, but you can't just scroll up, you have to scroll down to read what's there. So you're forced to read in a tiny gap where you can only see a few lines of text at once. Please do away with this ridiculous animation effect and restore usability. Thank you. Added Dec 2018: Updated to latest version but horrible UI hasn't been fixed. App obviously not meant to be used on older iPhones. Problem #2: the stories and articles are in the smallest possible font, and in light grey. I literally cannot read them. Zooming in makes the type bigger but also makes the lines too long for the screen so I have to continually pan left & right. ✓ Audio no longer works since last updateSince your last update, the audio no longer works on iphone XS Max, when trying to use pronunciation feature. i’ve been waiting for a new update to correct this feature for several weeks. i have now started looking at other apps that have this feature. up until now, i have used your app for many years without any problems that i can remember. however, this is a very important feature and used very frequently, now rendering the app useless to me fifty percent of the time. please take note. Not so fast there “wrongpants”. Your audio is STILL NOT fixed completely... it does appear to be working on iphone when manual ringer is turned on, however, not when turned to vibrate, such as my phone has always been set to for many years. So whatever you have altered is still not being picked up by your brain trust, which means you are still unaware. These little details are big deals to phone owners who have their phones set up in specific ways. Anyway, this little irritation is so unnecessary. Why fix things when they are not broken? Why post updates when you don’t test basic features? One unnecessary improvement shouldn’t negate basic features. ✓ Excellent app; little respect for paying customersDear devs, Can you please stop removing features from a paid app, with no notice? You are fully aware that it’s common practice for users to have automatic updates on for apps, so must also be aware that most of your customers will have no choice over losing these features. This is incredibly bad practice for a paid app, considering some users will have paid specifically for access to those features, or at least knowing those features were in the equation.
