✓ Ehh ...Probably fine for the selected maps that exist, and there is, of course, an option to request a map, but more trouble than it's worth. Not for me. Unfortunately, we can't get our money back. ✓ Poor customer service - parts of Christchurch missingDespite offering a Christchurch map download, the north is missing, including most of bottle lake forest (which has limited cell coverage, making Offmaps the perfect solution, and the primary reason I purchased this app). The developer did not have the courtesy to respond to the email I sent detailing the drawbacks I've mentioned here. From what I read of other reviews the previous version of Offmaps allowed you to download all of Christchurch, and I would have just purchased the old version, but I don't particular want to support a developer who ignores their customers..Version: 1.02
✓ Not good. Needs some basicsA map should be able to search for any address or zip code when it doesn't know the name of the place one seeks. This one fails in this regard. It should recognize intersection descriptions. It comes back with an error that the address is not on the map. The smarts in the address search behave oddly. Typing in " E 3rd " begets a response of 111 street. The bus map for New York does not work. Subway one does. Zooming is good. Lot of Hotels do not show up in the search. All in all, less than stellar. Won't want to buy any more maps until they improve the basics. Roadtrip update 110820: 1) Address search makes mistakes, rarely correct. In a word: Incompetent. 2) Bookmark utility acceptable however changing views looses the displayed map pins forcing you to re-enter bookmarks and remake your selections. In a word: Clumsy 3) Database for restaurants etc. very incomplete. In a word: disappointing. 4) Street names hard to find. Scroll long distances to read the names. In a word: tedious. 5) Bus overlay map shows stops but not routes. In a word: Useless. 6) Subway map show routes and stops. Popups show connections but you must drill down. The one for NY in incomplete and incorrect. Many better subway maps avail. 7) Correction to previous review. Pin dropping works great. Bookmarking new and existing sites works great. This product is not recommended until some basics are fixed. Not sure why some rated it excellent. A paper map performs better. ✓ Good for big cities only?I just downloaded the app for an upcoming trip to Corsica. It doesnt have any of the hotels we are staying at, not even their street addresses, and none of the places reccommended by local websites or lonely planet. ✓ A DOWNGRADE from version 1The KEY feature from the original Offmaps that I purchased this app for was the ability to download maps for any location anywhere in the world at any level of resolution. So, in buying version 2, you would expect that you could still do that, right? After all, that's what made it a great app. No, now it only has a library of maps. Limited in number and pay for play. Sure, I guess I could REQUEST a map, but I'm pretty sure it won't be ready before I leave for Laos in 2 hours. Previously, I could download a map of a new location before I left and be all set to go when I arrived. It's probably an okay app if you're going to one of the cities they cover, but for those of us who wanted to use it for maps of locations off the beaten path, I guess we'll have to find another app to try..Version: 1.21

✓ Helpful, but far from perfectThis app has been very helpful while I've been travelling, but I always have to cross reference with a physical map due to lack of detail in semi-urban areas. The open source map data is another pitfall as its riddled with inconsistencies and written mostly in the native tongue of the country in question - for example I'm in Japan and some station names are written in English, and some fully in Kanji. I like this app and it's saved me significant roaming charges, but I'd like to see some refinements of this solid base..Version: 1.30
✓ Has potential, but not worth the time or costAs a frequent traveler to Japan, the thought of having a single high quality, offline street and subway map sucked me in. The street maps are nice, but the subway/rail maps are horrible!!! There are several of the Metro lines that are missing...not just the newest line (Fukutoshin) that opened 5 years ago. The map is missing the Ginza line, the Namboku line, and a few others. The Metro lines that are on the map are in the wrong locations, don't use the same colors as the Tokyo Metro lines, names are missing for numerous major train stations, and the maps don't include the Metro stations at all. The POI information is awful. The are are more than 70 sushi places and 3 pizza places in a city of 20 million people! If the Tokyo map looked as good as the Berlin map in the freebie app, then this would be spectacular application!.Version: 1.21

✓ Less and moreYou are now constrained to the areas that are listed by city in the catalogue. No longer can you download just anywhere in the world. There is a request tool that allows you to request more map areas to be converted, but it does not work if your selected area covers the edge of an existing map. The new maps are great for the areas they cover, but at max zoom the street names usually render off the visible area. Worth it if you are in a major city for now..Version: 1.02
✓ Went from great to uselessVersion 2 is a complete waste of money. No longer has ability to download user selected map regions. Now you have to buy maps from the store. ✓ Worse than beforeIn the first version you could download whole map areas. You could choose what level of detail you needed. Now you can only load the city maps which are incomplete in NZ and limited to the city boundaries. Also the route and directions tool has been removed which made this app a cool city navigation aide. ✓ Good map but transit options cause crashesI have used the Paris map extensively and it is good, but there are some buggy parts of it: If you are looking at bookmarked spots and one of the public transit overlays at the same time, the app crashes VERY frequently. Similarly if you are looking at a transit overlay and start zooming in or clicking on a bus stop or train station - frequent crashes. On the other hand, for just map use including gps referencing, and for bookmarking spots on your map and for finding certain things nearby your spot - it is really quite good - stable, good detail, and sufficient stored data for local sites. I have also used the Madrid map a fair bit and it has the same problems that the Paris map does. Also - surprisingly, I wanted to buy a Manchester UK map and it is not available. That seems odd - it's a good sized city..Version: 1.21
✓ Offmaps2This is strictly a map. It does connect easily with adjacent maps if you have them, BUT, it provides no other useful data on hotels/ restaurants/pubs etc. When searching for these it lists all the hotels etc that it has in the county without indicating which are in the area of the identified town. It has a search button for "nearby" but it bumps the user back to the general selection!!! It does not find towns/hotels in the area listed in the Michelin! Even within the provided listing, many Michelin hotels are omitted eg. Boom/Trehellas House; chafford/Gidleigh Park (2 star restaurant) !!!!???! Your best bet is to use TRAVEL ADVISOR rather than OFFMAPS2. I can find no productive use for this app..Version: 1.61

✓ Limited to cities, store not connectionThere are aspects of this which are more convenient than the original version- less hassle selecting areas etc. However, much of the freedom to select areas is lost and the store won't work for me at the moment (admittedly purchased 15 min ago but still...) ✓ Buy the Original Offmaps insteadHow very dissapointing, I am a big fan of offmaps and have used it frequently when abroad. Unfortunately it seems that in favour of nicer looking interface they have ditched ALL of the free content from offmaps 1, meaning that you have to pay to download any maps (the original app allowed you to highlight and select any area of the world map for a free download which you could then use at a later date, offline). and yet another 'unfortunately' you can only download maps for cities which are pre made by the developer, meaning that if you are travelling somewhere that hasn't had a guide made for iti.e. Marrakech then you can't download ANYTHING for that location. I'm quite upset that they have done this as offmaps and Trails were both 2 fantastic apps and they have created a far inferior product as the follow up. ✓ Significantly worse than it wasNot just having to pay for maps, but the whole interface off the product. Continuously having to jump between maps. What if you are on a road trip? I am in town A looking at the map, then suddenly I am in town B. but now I need to come out of that, find another map for that down and look at that. It is just preposterous! ✓ Upgraded from offmapsI've upgraded from the original Offmaps and the new version while supporting the retina display of the new iPad doesn't seem to allow the selection of ad-hoc map areas like the old version. So any maps I need have to be purchased which was the main attraction of the older version. At least this version is not expensive as I won't be using it. ✓ Limited useOffmaps2 does exactly what it says it does ' saves roaming charges when abroad'. Unfortunately this app seems to be focused only on somebody visiting foreign cities, rather than general offline maps application as it was with original Offmaps. Being limited to a preselected locations and having all related POI information in a single package is definitely handy, but kind of limited. For offline maps in Europe the application is generally useless as it's limited only to the largest cities and only major POIs. So if you're going to enjoy long weekend in a foreign city (like London, Venice, Paris, Nice, etc.), go for it. Otherwise stay with original Offmaps. It would be nice to see Offmaps and Offmaps2 combined in a handy app for general use..Version: 1.10
✓ Does not work as advertised.I watched a video about the application before I purchased. Complete faults advertisement the videos said it showed a turn by turn directions from current location it does not do this at least in the new version of the app. It is a complete waste of money sense they charge for map downloads, the initial 99¢ only includes two map downloads after that it's 99¢ or a $5.99 one time fee but for the features it has it is way too much. For example, I downloaded the Washington DC map and it has large chunks with no map information and does not have all the shops and points of inerest marked properly. Since they are charging for additional map downloads you should consider carefully if this is the app for you. I'm also discouraged to see this is the second iteration of this application, did those who purchased the first version get support for a buggy product or just told it was no longer supported? You can always download a pdf map and view it offline, perhaps that is a better way of going..Version: 1.02
✓ Not really as good as they claimedPros: it's offline cons; if you buy the whole world maps ( which I did) , you will find out later that still some areas are missing! I used it in Italy , it never shows the areas on the perimeter of Rome which are vital areas of Rome! ✓ Very disappointingI was hoping this would be a better version of OffMaps which is an app I really like. But instead it seems more like a downgrade. In fact it is a stretch to even call it a map application. It is more of a tourist guide app that includes maps for the regions covered by the guides you purchase. I greatly preferred the original which gave you maps of everywhere without having to specifically download them, then allowed you to purchase guides for the areas you are interested in. I had purchased guides for pretty much every location I have travelled to for which they included a guide. The old app was useful even in the areas where they did not provide guides. The guides were simply a valuable addition. But in the new version the guides seem to be the center and the map a mere afterthought. There are some things I like about it's interface better than the original, and if they would go back to allowing you to view the map of the world with the guides being the addons, then I would give this app more stars. Or if it were advertised as a collection of tourist guides rather than a mapping application I would rate it better. But for its advertised purpose it is definitely a big step down from the original..Version: 1.02

✓ Old version was betterI deleted the original Offmaps after I downloaded Offmaps2, thinking it would be an improvement over the predecessor. I only found out after using it that, you can no longer download maps for any part of the world as you could've in the original, and you are limited to the predetermined boundaries of each available city. This app seems to be only useful if you are traveling to big cities, but is mostly useless if you intend to go beyond that. I am disappointed in Offmaps2, and will be downloading the original Offmaps until the developer sort this out..Version: 1.02

✓ DisappointingYou can't define the area of map you'd like to download, so you depending on where you are you might end up off the edge somewhere, Leaving you to find your own way onto the map. And if you do manage to make your way into the predefined area you'll notice that it's very very hard to examine the edges as the app has a habit of re-centering the map. Meaning you'll be squinting at the borders of your screen. The map also loads in very slowly, as if it were being downloaded (it's not) All very frustrating and annoying. It also has a sprinkling of bonus features (find restaurants etc) but with the basic functionality so crippled, who cares..Version: 1.21
✓ Crippled compared to the last versionIn OffMaps 1, you could select an area on the map to be downloaded and cached. For an additional fee, you could buy a 'guide' which provided searchable street names. Now, you can only download guides - prepackaged maps which have a fee associated with them. Only two downloads are included with the purchase of the app; you must purchase more tokens to download more apps. This is a deliberately crippled version of the software. Downloading an area of the map for free was a vital feature and has been removed simply so the developers can make money. Avoid. We need to send the message to developers that we won't pay for features to be removed from software..Version: 1.10

✓ Beautiful rendering but maps no longer freeThe new Offmaps 2 has beautifully rendered maps worthy of the iPhone 4 retina display. Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, the maps themselves now have to be paid for. Maps that are downloaded by manual browsing using a data connection, while free, are no longer cached for later use with data unavailable or switched off. And the map packs (which are cached) are no longer free, apart from the complimentary starter pack of two small map areas..Version: 1.02
