✓ Love this gameDownloaded the full version a while ago and there was a glitch that meant it wouldn't open and I was really disappointed. I posted a review and to my delight the makers have fixed the bug and I can now play this awesome game! Thanks kairosoft! It is a great game, easy to play but lots of additional fun things to build and unlock as the game progresses. Totally addictive did so much rather pay a little upfront to not have to bother with 'freemium' nonsense that always ends up costing loads and ruins the game enjoyment. No such problem here. ✓ I loved Game Dev Story so I bought this...At first, I hesitated to buy this because I was unsure of what would be incorporated in this app. I thought it would some rip off of Game Dev. But to be honest, it is very far from GDS. That is a great thing! You don't want two of the same games. Hot Springs Story reminded me of playing Roller Coaster Tycoon more than anything. The premise is that you are creating a hotel, try to get people to come to your hotel. You have a spa (of course), a restaurant, and a pachinko center. One big step up from GDS is the use of the screen. You don't look at the same screen the entire time. I would invest money into this app. I have been playing for a month now. It is well worth it. ✓ Another success!This game takes a "designer" approach rather than a pure "manager" approach like Game Dev Story, and once time starts to roll on (some options don't open up until a year has passed), the game really develops into an addictive sim game. Fans of old games like "Theme Park" will find something very familiar here and enjoy it, but I can't deny that GDS scratched a certain gamer itch in me that this one doesn't. The controls can be quite fiddly. The addition of a selectable d-pad helps you choose units, but you really need the option to rotate around in any isometric game, Also, the help and tutorials are a little lacking. Some menus and options don't make a lot of sense until you try them out for yourself. If you're into Japanese culture and sim games I completely recommend this, and it's really nice to see a sim game on iPhone that isn't full of expensive in-app purchases. But in recent replays, I found no matter what I do, Pond is not getting unlocked. I think there may be a bug after certain iOS upgrade. I replay this game over and over again (you get to carry bonuses through from previous playthroughs) trying to do a bit better each time. Hell, there's even a FREE version that plays EXACTLY like the full version (although only for a very limited in-game time). Go try that, you've got nothing to lose. I'd happily bet the cost of this app that you'll be back on here to get the full version in no time I know there's other Kairosoft titles out there, yet to be localised. ✓ Flawed but still goodReviewed 1/7/19 on an iPhone 7 The flaws are too insignificant to warrant taking off one star. This is my first Kairosoft game. It can be played in both portrait and landscape mode, with automatic rotation (a setting can lock rotation). There is an option for a game pad, but it’s probably unneeded for modern phones. Controls are still smooth, despite the age. The mouse cursor is irritating and can not be removed, but it’s a small flaw and can be useful for selecting facilities that are hidden by other facilities. This game has aged well. It’s flawed and hasn’t been updated in two years, but it still runs smoothly (and a little warm, which is strange considering it’s 7 or 8 years old). The menus don’t feel cramped either. The gameplay is fun and relaxing. One of my favorite aspects of the game is that you can play as casually as you want. You don’t have to maximize profits or configure rooms using expo sheets, but you still can (and that would be a hefty amount of work, too). There is still no 360° rotation. There are only some facilities that can rotate at all, and even then, there are only two directions to rotate. Regardless, people can walk through some walls (but not others). So it becomes a matter of figuring out which rooms open where. Be careful when considering this, as some facilities have doorways that seem like walls. This game is complex but slow. I find that relaxing, as watching people happily filter in and out is interesting to me. However, while it can be a micromanagement game, the micromanagement isn’t constant. You will have to wait for money to fill from time to time. If you need a continuous experience, consider getting another Kairosoft game. People undergo a variety of activities based on how many facilities you put down, so the animations are not uninteresting. You can tell they’re old, however, as they aren’t as fluid as modern pixel game animations, including the studio’s newer games. I have yet to find a bug in the game. It hasn’t crashed yet either. I’m assuming the “glitches” people are complaining about are how customers can walk through walls. It’s not a bad bug, if it’s even a bug. Better that than have you constricted by one or two entrances when placing facilities. At least this “bug” somewhat makes up for the lack of rotation. The music is repetitive, but the sound effects aren’t annoying. You can lower the volume or mute both of them, if you want to listen to your own music. For an old title, the menu system is surprisingly user friendly. I find the double tap to confirm feature is a good feature and a necessary one, as placement can be inaccurate. The movement of new facilities is pretty simple and easy. People complain about the fact that you must destroy a facility (you can’t simply move it). I don’t find it annoying at all, as it’s still relatively quick to get rid of something. I guess redesigning can become a chore, in which case it’s easier to start over. That’s what some reviewers mean by “replay value”. If you find yourself uncomfortable with a design and you don’t want to bother redesigning, it’s much easier to start over. I haven’t done this yet, but supposedly some stats and unlocks carry over into new game plus. A solid experience with minimal flaws, all considering. I was surprised and pleased that this game went beyond my expectations. Please don’t be deterred by the age, lack of updates, or reviews; as the flaws may not be nearly as bad as they seem and the game still plays very smoothly. If I continue to be impressed, I will buy another Kairosoft game. (It’s not optimized for iPhone X though. I know because the last update was from before the iPhone X came out.).Version: 2.02

I was super disappointed when I couldn't expand my property anymore. The only real gripe I have against this game is that you have to reload the entire game over again ever time you switch to another app. It gets really annoying if you get a phone call in the middle of playing because then you lose anything that wasn't saved. ✓ This is how games should be!I absolutely love this game (and have been getting other kairosoft games too!) My girlfriend and I bought this and we're addicted to it! It's not one of those silly mindless games like tiny tower or those repetitious games where you keep playing the same thing just to hit different achievements. This is game is a LEGIT GAME. the developers put a lot of thought in it and it is at once simple and difficult! By that I mean this: you are introduced to the basics of managing a spa but there are a lot of things such as building combinations, item and building combinations, etc. that you have to figure out yourself in order to make your spa better (and get higher score). And it's really satisfying when you unlock something after various trials and error -- which also gives this game a GREAT REPLAY VALUE! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE LACK OF REVIEWS: I suspect there isn't as much reviews because not once while playing this game was I bombarded with notifications asking me to rate the game. (But hey, look at the ratio between 5 and 1 stars for those who bothered to review!) It is a little bit pricey, but i've bought hundreds of apps and none beats the price/value of this game! I loved Game Dev Story, but was hesitant to buy this title because of the hotel/spa theme -- didn't really seem very exciting or interesting. Boy, was I wrong. There is so much depth in this game that it will take several play throughs to see/do everything. This is an easy to learn, hard to master game. You can skate by with broad strokes of management and still be very successful in the game, or you can micromanage the crap out of everything and do even better. It always suprises me on how the most basic of games can be the most entertaining. Leave it to the Japanese to make a game that may not look graphically superior, but concentrates on what matters: FUN. The simple addictive interface of this game is without equal and is only matched by its simple, addictive charm. ✓ Good But Inferior to GDSAfter all the media hype, you can tell that this is just another good game as expected from this amazing developer, Kairosoft. because it has already got so many reviews, I won't go over the minor details of game aspects. One of the let down in this game for me is that it doesn't remain as addictive as their previous masterpiece, Game Dev Story. It did get me hooked for some time, but not for long. The main problem here is there isn't much progression even after the tenth year. Every month feels like just another day. But it did get me absorbed into this game for a few hours. Yup, a few hours, maybe two to three before I got a little bored. But I've spent about 10+ hours with GDS, which makes a huge difference. Some improvements over GDS include better touch support and two save slots for more users. Although this isn't as good as the previous title, it's still a fantastic buy. But I should warn you that unless you don't mind getting sucked your iDevice battery and a part of your life, you shouldn't get it. And yeah, I'm waiting for Game Dev Story 2. ^.^.Version: 1.1.0

Even in Japanese~ So this is by far the best and only one out there that really makes you feel like the hostess of many 'ryokan' residents who are tired from work/life and want a vacation at your inn! Don't be fooled by the simple, cutesy graphics too, the game is far more complex than I expected and it may make you want to restart the game from the beginning on a fresh new data file in order to make your onsen the best and efficient it can possibly be. There is no 'put into inventory' function if you want to remove something placed in your inn. You basically must destroy something first in order to refurbish the place. Which is somewhat realistic but at the same time, a loss of money. For those who enjoy these simulation strategy managing games, it is a challenge that is fun and exciting and tickles your mathmatical brain. ✓ A Little UnusualThis, the second Kairosoft game to make it to iOS, is certainly fun, if not a bit unusual. In it you run a spa, or hot resort, in a slightly similar style to Sim City in object placement, but different in almost every other way. I've seen some people complain that it gets boring quickly and you are left with little to do. While the action is more dispersed later in the game with new opportunities popping up much less frequently, mostly through leveling up the huge variety of visitors who allow new investment and such, it can still be quite enjoyable to play, especially if you listen to a podcast, audiobook, music or the like while you do so. ✓ Probably the Best "Hotel" Tycoon Game in the App Store!Just recently, I've seen a ton of modern "tycoon" type apps in the app store, and to be honest, they're a pain to play. Most of those games revolve around you waiting in real life time for simple things to actually happen. They also make you pay real money just to actually enjoy the cool stuff. This game is the holy grail of Hotel Tycoon games. In Springs Story, there's never spending real life money on things, construction of rooms and entertainment take seconds, and the gameplay speed is balanced enough that you'll enjoy it for hours on end. Pros: -Likable Nintendoish graphics -Never loads, gameplay is smooth -Difficulty factor is actually challenging -Very Addicting Gameplay Cons: -Just starting the game provides very little customization options -Rotation of items is only provided for the hot springs -Music can be a little monotonous Overall, Hot Springs Story is definitely an awesome app. It's not exactly the same formula as Game Dev Story, but it's definitely worth a try if you're a fan of Tycoon type games! ✓ A charming sim game, and a must for Game Dev Story fansAt long last here is the next game from Kairosoft, authors of the insanely addictive 'Game Dev Story'. Hot Springs Story is clearly cut from the same cloth, and shares many visual and design themes from Game Dev Story. This time you're running an onsen (a Japanese hot springs hotel), but unlike Game Dev, this time you can actually build new rooms and facilities. To succeed, you need to place rooms together in specific orders to appeal to whichever demographic you are interested in atracting, and as you progress your onsen will be ranked in onsen review magazines. You'll also be visited by travelling salemen who will sell you new objects, such as massage chairs and speciality items for your restaurants. As the months and seasons go by your onsen grows and grows and more and more types of rooms become available. As with Game Dev Story, this is a charming game which once past the initial 5-10 minute learning period is a breeze to play and highly addictive. The visuals are again clearly from an ancient Japanese phone of some sort but despite their simplicity they're full of charm. Music too is catchy and and well done. Another superb title from Kairosoft then, and should tide us all over until we get English versions of Game Dealer Story and Game Dev Story 2..Version: 1.1.0
