Gorilla Workout: Build Muscle for Negative User Reviews

Too early to tell - lacks core infoThe app works fine and is pretty easy to navigate, but is fairly basic and could do with a bit more in terms of information (especially for people who aren't pros at fitness). For example, some info about warming up/down would be good. Also perhaps a bit about nutrition (I guess that's important particularly if you want to build muscle). Also, there's no indication of how much each fitness pack costs. I'm not going to click on a pack unless I know what it will cost me..Version: 5.1.3

Missing key piecesI’ve had this app for years and really like it. There are 2 things missing that would make it significantly better, and I’ve never understood why they aren’t included: 1. A warm up/down & stretches 2. Some of the challenges have an exercise every 5 days which offers no instruction other than ‘rest 30/45 seconds between sets.’ It them gives you 6 or 7 exercises to do. Do you rest between each exercise, or do you count each rotation as one set and exercise to exhaustion? The first is way too easy, but the instructions don’t quote for the second..Version: 6.0.4

Keeps crashingDon’t bother with the update. Keeps crashing on my iPhone. Very frustrating!!.Version: 6.0.0

AmatuerAn out of shape guy who basically shot poor quality videos in the park....many much better apps available!.Version: 1.0.1

Not great. Lots of potential poorly executed.Programmes look great, clear instruction. Workouts are a bit tame and not enough to feel like a proper workout. No way to track progression or record results. No way to edit or substitute exercises..Version: 6.0.1

Not much use without In App PurchasesI may come back and increase this rating later, but I’m not happy about paying for an app only to find that it’s useless without adding In App Purchases. The basic app should be free in this case. OK, it’s not going to break the bank at $1, but it’s devious marketing..Version: 6.0.3

It’s only YouTube videosThis is highly highly mediocre. Modestly better than the subscription apps but ultimately it’s just a bunch of you tube videos. I recommend downloading the YouTube app and just use that and a calendar. Really nothing to see here. Don’t waste your money..Version: 6.0.4

Don't see the pointAll this app does is tell you what exercise to do without a timer, tracking or anything else. You can get the same information from the Internet for free. Does it work? In short, not really. Going to the gym for 20 minutes will do you more good than 60 minutes of this. It's good for beginners however who are looking to gain some strength but not muscle..Version: 1.0.5

Good for beginners onlyThis app is great if you are looking to get to an intermediate level! I really like the approach of the program although it isn't original. The main problem I had was that on a few of the exercises demonstrated the form was poor, making it easier for beginners to make a mistake, increasing the chance of you injuring yourself especially the harder exercises like pistols and one arm push ups. Except for that great app for anyone just starting out..Version: 1.0.5

Great startGreat start to my first workout, looking forward to the next.Version: 6.0.4

Needs More to be CompetitiveBasic functions and use of app is OK. Need to have ability to use timer and see workout at the same time. Also, timer should record your time upon completion and let you know how you rank against all users. Timer history also needs to be available if you want to go back and chart improvement..Version: 6.0.4

Instruction videos are ok but plans are terribleThe progression is all over the place and expects far far too much. One day it asks for 30 squats, 2 days later it asks for 90!! Don't waste your money..Version: 1.0.5

Just OkayThis app is just okay. I wouldn't recommend it for gaining muscle or losing weight. The exercises themselves are fine but there are a ton that are basically the exact same. The instructional videos are poorly done and some (ex. One handed push up) are literally 2 seconds long and the person you are viewing isn't even able to complete the exercise properly. This app was a great idea and a lot of solid exercise can be done with you own weight but I think it just needed a little more time and effort..Version: 1.0.1

Rlly goodIt’s always tailored to the workouts I need.Version: 6.0.4

So much potential wasted!First and foremost let me go out and say that the exercises are extremely well done, versatile and challenging. Here's the problems: -video quality is poor - audio description to pair with the video would be amazing! Especially for visually impaired. -the User interface is so bad, there is no backtracking, overview, options, FAQ, prep, nothing to assist the user in how to prepare for workouts and to best capitalize. - the overall design, and aesthetic is so weak and uninspiring it makes me want to just stop using it all together. Capitalizing on other features.. Stop watch, timing, extra challenges. Capitalize on an achievement system.. Make this a game for serious users!!! - what's up with the website?!?!.Version: 1.0.1

Should be so much betterThis app should be excellent, it's got informative descriptions of the workouts and excellent videos to show you the right way to them. Bad points, no timeline to follow, doesn't show you rest days or on what days or even how many times a week to do any of the workouts. No reset button to start that week again if you have struggled to complete that week. It's just shoddy. It needs a workout plan added of days to train and how many days rest are needed, a reset button, and a better layout and it would get 5 stars. Get updating guys and make this app a winner..Version: 1.0.3

App is good, workouts not goodThese workouts are rediculous. I've paid for complete app, all in-app purchases. And the workouts are far too basic. Have to do like 3 of them back to back to get a full body hit. This style of workouts is almost like isolation training (daily splits etc..). I was under the impression they would be full body circuits that a gorilla would do(lol). However no. As for the app itself, awesome. I Like the way it works and unlocks new content etc. Just get some better workouts and i'd 5star this. Thanks..Version: 4.1.0

Little puzzled by other reviewsI bought this app because of what others had said in their reviews, but on buying this I have realised that this is no good, which is a shame because the app is made and presented well, but on every day you do 3 exercises, these exercises are rubbish, for example on the highest level one of the exercises is 20 jumps tucking legs in... Are you kidding me!!!! And by the looks of it the are three different exercises of one set each.... This is not enough sets or exercises!!! Can't Believe I waste my money.Version: 1.0.3

Pay for the app… get nothingSo I paid for the app, open it up and then realise that I also have to pay for each individual workout? Why did I pay for the app when there’s no benefit? You could have just had a free app and then asked people to pay for the workouts..Version: 6.0.4

"No equipment"?I'm enjoying these workouts, which are presented in an easy-to-understand format, with clear instructions. However, the claim that no equipment is required is false. I don't have a pull-up bar, or a box strong enough to do box jumps on. I'm wary of what else might be required later on. The other reservation I have is with the assumption that upper body strength matches or exceeds lower body strength, which is usually only true of men. I'm female, and am finding the upper body exercises much more difficult, even impossible, compared to lower body exercises of the same level. On the whole, a great app which I hope will be built upon further..Version: 3.0

Ok content, horrible appI can’t believe that as long as this app has been out (6 years) it still misses basic functionality that exists in every other workout app ever created. I was so excited when this app was boasted to be ‘redesigned with a fine-toothed comb’ that I updated it immediately, only to realize that all they did was changed the screens slightly, and added useless links to supplements so they can make money off you linking to supplements, some from not-good supplement companies. If you look at the other apps by this developer, they are all the same basic content, just repackaged into separate apps as a cash-grab. Which is fine, but in 2018, the bar for paid workout apps is much higher than what they are delivering. The fact that the timer doesn’t work when you start it and then go to the workout (so you can actually see what you need to do), and that there is still no form of tracking anything you do in the entire app is why this dumpster-fire of an app gets 1 star..Version: 6.0.0

UnbalancedThe good: Clear demos with plenty of variety Good value. No subscription needed. Genuinely comprehensive range of exercises requiring no equipment apart from a mat and an optional pull up bar. The bad: Crude, ugly interface Hard to keep track of day to day progress No scientific or best-practice underpinning or sense of professional expertise Conclusion: Useful, but best followed in combination with a notebook and a bit of background research..Version: 6.0.4

After purchase still can't access any of the exercisesAfter purchasing this, I still cannot access any of the exercises, they all show up as locked. I haven't been unable to figure out how to contact the vendor. Can't give any other rating, as I haven't seen any of the programs. Very disappointed..Version: 5.1.13

Excellent!UPDATE: I’d give this app 5* if only the developers took simple fixes into consideration. What's great about this app is that the workout sessions cater to whatever fitness level you're at. I like that one can start from the absolute minimum and increase the intensity because each workout tones and strengthens. So convenient to do this at home and the sessions are quick but effective! Love the video demonstrations as well. The only issue I find is with the cardio workouts that require so much space. I live in a tiny apartment and have limited workout space which is one of the reasons why I choose this app in first place. Another issue is that, if doing any other workout other than the signature Gorilla Workout, one has to scroll through all workouts to find the one(s) that are being done. I have all of them so it's a pain. I wish they had a dedicated section for workouts currently doing. I combine several different ones sometimes to get an all around but more intense effect and I don't want to spend my time scrolling through workouts to find the ones I'm doing. It really is a pain. Other than that, great workouts that are strengthening, fat burning and quick to do!.Version: 6.0.4

It's good but...I like this app, I combine it with another workout I do in the morning. It's quick and easy and you can see the build up. But... And here comes the but, this app is aimed at complete beginners (as well as experts), and would benefit greatly from the extra knowledge of rest days and a time line to show exactly how long they should be spending on one session. It's great videos and an in depth description is involved, yet I feel it slightly lacking in the exercises themselves. If the aim is to make it fast and cardio based then maybe they should be longer, but if it's to be strength based then it should be encouraged to take your time pushing the muscles. Having a timer for both options would be beneficial like other workout apps have. It is good and it should get people off the sofa, if the timer option can't be added, a little note section should be. So you can keep track of your strengthening process, helping keep with the get as big as Gorilla theme that this app encourages. Small improvements would turn this ok app to the best one out there.Version: 1.0.4

Could be goodThis app is well made, however, it remains a mystery why people comment so highly, almost seems like the company wrote them, as I can't see that the highest working out level (ability to complete 75+ push ups) can realistically have a daily workout consisting of 10 incline push ups, 20 chest to knee jumps, and 10 other types of jumps, this is hardly going to get you to a great fitness level, please don't get this app, and please don't treat this review as a one bad review out of ten good reviews. Maybe try something on the internet or at least, another app..Version: 3.7.0
