But I’ve got an iPhone and after downloading an issue and click on read - the application just disappears. ✓ Very poor experienceFirstly let me be clear - this is a review of this app, not the content. I enjoy the content of this magazine and have been reading it for decades. But this app is awful. In fact it’s fundamentally broken and not for for purpose. The problem is that you can only use it when online, which makes it effectively a website. Downloading a new issue takes forever, and it can’t be downloaded in the background. This means you can’t use your iPad while it’s downloading. And then once it has eventually downloaded, you have to be online to read it. Want to download an issue or two to read on a flight? Forget it. Never mind that this is something people would almost certainly want with a magazine. The developers have known about these issues for years and have chosen not to fix them. If you want access to this content then don’t let this review put you off. But if you subscribe I just want you to do so knowing what you will be in for. ✓ Sort the detailsPositives - mostly great content, app is more reliable than it used to be. Quite often a lot of hypothesis drivel so I have to skip that. I think I have discovered that as long as five years ago, the content, subjects and structure was better, although the technical application was poor, as you'd expect then. Negatives - despite me telling it on at least 20 occasions, NO, I do not not want to sign up to your newsletter. Yet every time I log in, it asks again. STOP. When I finish reading for the day or night, when I reopen the app I expect to land exactly where I left it. And after weeks of you banner advertising to buy your back issues, when I did eventually because it suited my holiday arrangements, it turns out most of the older issues (that I have discovered so far) won't allow the 'read' pop ups to work. ✓ An amazing magazine terribly stripped downVery disappointing how limited the amount of articles were. You have to buy each magazine and there is probably a tenth of the articles from the actual magazine. This would be amazing if you just made it an encyclopaedic news feed of all of your articles from day one with hourly features of facts and stories automatically cycled. In fact it would be my favourite app. Instead it harks back to worrying over customers purchases of actual magazines and displays them in a limited and badly laid out pdf, which isn’t reminiscent of the magazines at all. It’s stripped down and in an actual magazine would only take up around 5 pages. Come into the modern age and make people want to pay for this!.Version: 5.6.7
