Worth it if you’re not interested in the secret gardenPros: The content is great as expected and the video links are great. Cons:Can not access the secret garden because not a print version purchase. Keeps advertising to subscribe for 12 months even when already subscribed..Version: 5.3.9

Useless app for subscribersThis app is next to useless as it constantly refers you back to the subscription page after you’ve successfully logged in. Obviously does not recognise paid-for subscriptions. The pages in the app frequently refer you to the website. What is the point of having a bespoke app if it is inferior to the browser version?.Version: 5.6.4

Continually have to sign inEvery time I open the App or follow links from emails my subscription isn’t recognised and I have to work out how to sign in all over again. This is really tedious. This App is most definitely not user friendly. Still waiting for free gifts offered when I paid my annual subscription.Version: 8.2

Disappointed!I took out a 2 month trial subscription. None of the videos worked on my download of the free issue. I reported this and was told that it was being dealt with and would be working shortly. I reported again when the next months issue had the same problem - no response. Today, another issue in which the videos do not work - i’ve cancelled my subscription before it automatically renews!.Version: 5.4.1

Used to enjoy thisRecent changes to the format have made the experience of reading this magazine more frustrating than enjoyable. It takes forever to load content, and seems to freeze on the advertisements. The layout also makes it feel less like a magazine and more like reading a web page (for some this may be a plus, but for me it has detracted from the experience). Actual content seems to have reduced in favour of ads and photos with little text, or recycled videos from the tv show. For the last two editions I’ve found the experience of trying to read the magazine so frustrating that I’ve just given up (and will now be cancelling my subscription)..Version: 7.0.0

ASPurchased subscription but so far two out of two issues unable to read. Just keeps wanting me to pay for the issue. Reinstall apps, signed out and back in, nothing works. Customer service is not responding. Great magazine if you can get it... Not getting what has been paid for. Appreciate the response but the link does not work. This is just in line with all the other issues. If this is the same link from with the app I have an open ticket. Still waiting on my help other than answers cut and pasted from the FAQs. Save your money and go and buy a paper copyThis app is just awful, no more explanation required. DO NOT PAY MONEY FOR THIS. You will have to download the magazine every time you want to look at if, sign in to the app repeatedly, get emails hassling you to subscribe(!), and generally turn reading a magazine into a stressful, unpleasant experience. Oh, and you don’t get the free seeds you get with a paper copy... I’d give it zero stars if I could..Version: 5.6.1

Crummy Business ModelI don’t get it-I have a print subscription but unlike most other publications it does not grant me access to the app! Which is odd as it must cost more to produce and distribute physical copies of the magazine which is why others give digital access included. Unless the publisher is using this odd model to nudge subscribers away from hard copy to nudge users online to get costs down. Considering the average age of Gardner’s World subscribers I doubt they’ll have much luck....Version: 5.3.5

Never againI have two subscriptions that use Immediate Media apps: Gardeners' World and Gardens Illustrated. Both are a continuous source of annoyance. Downloaded issues routinely become unavailable and have to be downloaded again. Or, even worse, purchased again. The print issues are available before the iPad issues. After IOS 8 was released, the apps didn't work for weeks. Customer support consists of telling you to uninstall and reinstall the apps, which would mean downloading every issue from scratch. I love the magazines, but no way I am renewing my subscriptions..Version: 3.3.37

Doesn’t recognise subscriptionI’ve been emailing with regard to this app for about a months and the developers want nothing to do with it and keep fobbing off. Asked Apple for a refund as when downloaded and subscription paid for annual membership it will update and will not allow me to view content and extra pieces (secret garden) cannot be viewed as do not have valid subscription- so a waste of time.Version: 5.6.7

Such a waste of moneyI live in France so thought it would be much easier to download the app for Gardeners’ World than have the print edition mailed each month. 4 months into my subscription, I have yet to successfully download an entire edition. Downloading takes ages, despite the fact that we have very good internet speed here. Issues disappear, I have to continually ‘ restore ‘ content and the bookmark facility is non existent. Magazine is great! Download is brutally Slow !!!!!I have been a subscriber for years. Wonderful magazine, great content. The problem is downloading. I can download an entire movie in less time it takes to download this magazine. Thought this would improve in the last few months but it has not. Both Kitchen Garden and Grow your own magazines download in less then a minute so the problem isn’t on my end 😳..Version: 5.6.1

Poor customer serviceI purchased a subscription from the App Store for my iPad. I paid $30 USD. The subscription does NOT work as promised. I contacted support. They blamed their poor response on COVID-19. That’s the only entire reason I purchased the subscription - for therapy during COVID. I’ve been watching every episode online during COVID. Absolute rubbishUnable to download on my iPad Pro. Works on a Samsung phone but what use is that? Reading the other comments clearly I am not alone. FrustratingI took out a 12 month subscription on the 30th June and then tried to access the Secret Garden content. To access this content you need a subscription number. Can I find this number. No I can’t. Despite ringing Apple and the media company and spending wasted hours trying to get some information. Secret Garden Access?I’ve been through multiple channels now to find my subscriber number in order to access the secret garden online but alas no such luck. The app is great but nobody seems to have a clue why I don’t have a subscriber number OR how I go about finding one. ShamblesI used to read Gardeners’ World on an older iPad mini without a hitch until the new app and the magazine going ‘digital’. Now it takes 5-10 attempts to convince the application I am a paying subscriber and do not need to pay for each issue. Furthermore, it takes between 5-20 attempts to open the magazine without the app continually crashing. What is particularly poor is that it is also a bad experience on a brand-new, top-end iPad Pro (for which it remains unoptimised). If I ever bother again, I’ll go back to paper..Version: 5.3.7

Not as I thought.....I want to be able to cancel this download now. It appears that after 2 issues at 99p I then have to pay. At no time when I ticked to install the mag was I asked to tick a box to receive copies of the magazine and pay 99p immediately for each of the first 2 copies before subscription. I want out! Unable to restore purchaseI had to reinstall the app however when I clicked “Restore Purchases” and typed in my iTunes password it still hadn’t restored my subscription. So I tried again and this time it didn’t even ask me for a password and just went back to the original screen. My subscription had still not been restored!.Version: 5.6.4

Frustrating appNew issues don't automatically download requiring an app delete and restore purchases. Support is slow to help if you have other problems and send a stock response rather than address your question. App doesn’t work.Can’t get any of the issues to actually open for reading while online. Also, download is extremely slow then freezes so am unable to download for reading either. Subscribed but no accessI am subscribed to the physical magazine but have no access to this. Really frustrating. I could use the web but then I get prompting to use the app. Can you just make it so that if I have a physical subscription I can use the app? Gardeners’ world.The magazine is fine but the app and the way it’s run has got to be the worst I have ever used. Still unable to download latest magazine!Over 2 weeks since the last publication of the latest magazine and I still cannot download and read. Such poor customer service being directed to iTunes from immediate media and both unhelpful, not responding and not resolving the issue of being unable to access the ‘upgraded version’. All was okay until this ‘improvement!’ My advice - don’t subscribe as you can’t get any customer service and waste your money paying for something that doesn’t work. UPDATE- 3 months after the switch to the new version and still unable to download. Please don’t waste your money. I’ve got 6 months left on a subscription that I cannot use or get a refund. Where is it on Readly?I have a subscription with Readly and was very happy to be able to read Gardeners’ World. Then it seemed to disappear. When I enquired I was told that the distributors had removed it. Very sad. Is there any chance it could be put back onto Readly. I won’t be using this app, it is too expensive. Dreadful appScrolling pages is jittery/laggy. That’s if the pages load at all. I’ve just selected an article and the page won’t scroll down to reveal the information. Every time I change pages it goes from night mode to bright white. Was this designed by a chimpanzee?.Version: 7.0.0

Awful updateGardeners world wrote a mail to all subscribers claiming they have a great new app update. I uploaded it and now can no longer sign in. I have 5 months of subscription left to run and all my back copies have been lost. What a disgrace. What a rip off. After several years and regular problems logging I have now cancelled my direct debit. Take my advice and forgot this ridiculous app and buy the magazine. 😔😔.Version: 7.0.0

Dnes not work of line.After spending hours downloading some of my old issues, I now discovered that the latest one does not work off line - on the plane. Also lost many issues. Unless it is improved there is now point for me to buy the digital subscription. I am so disappointed..Version: 5.3.5

Great content, terrible appNo complaints on the content but the app is a car crash. Several updates over the years have made it close to unusable, terrible load times that really spoil the experience. I notice similar feedback and developers asking for screenshots but they know this is bad, the diagnostics must be shocking and it really is dated. Abysmal UpdateThe update is awful, the App is slow and unresponsive, the low light mode has random dark text on a dark background, the ‘X’ to close a page closes the App and leaves a white screen, the only way I can get the App back is to delete it from my device and download it again, this then requires all the back issues to be downloaded again. All that the TV has, and more ..... or less?This is a great mag full of interesting and useful content, much in line with the TV offering, which you would expect given that the writers and contributors are pretty much the same team with Monty at the helm. My only criticism is that the digital mag goes way overboard with it’s advertising and “buy me now” pages. Almost every feature links to some kind of offer (some very favourable!) which I find tends to tarnish the integrity of the editorial content. In other words, way to focused on revenue generation. Clean it up a little Monty and you’d get 5 stars from me, no problemo. Oh, one other nag ...... I’m subscribed OK? So why do I get constantly bombarded with emails to subscribe again?.Version: 3.16.5

Do not subscribe through the app!The app is not recognising that I have an active 12 month subscription (which I bought through the app itself a month ago). It is not refreshing with new issues. I can only see the issues which were available when I took out my subscription. I have tried restoring purchases through the app (nothing happens), deleting & reinstalling the app, and re-booting my phone. The ‘app support’ page is inaccessible - error message ‘server not found.’ The in-app support consists of a blank page. I am going to contact Trading Standards about this as I have not received the service I have paid for. UPDATE October 24th: after working for the past 2 months, I’m again having exactly the same problem. November issue will not appear in library nor download no matter what I try. Does not workHaving paid for subscription through buy subscriptions this is impossible to access digital and access the secret garden sector, initially it started off well, however now it constantly prompt you to either sign in or register , once complete it then returns to sign in prompt again, no response from the app provider or even from the subscription service! No one wants responsibility, it’s very frustrating! Fixes need to be put into place rapidly! I contemplating on possibly cancelling I even lost a magazine issue and now cannot retrieve it! Disappointed and crossI was happy with the earlier digital version - it downloaded quickly and the bookmark facility worked well for me - better than cutting out pages from the mag! However, the end of last year they did an update supposedly to make it work better as a mobile app. DISASTER!!! All the issues I had downloaded were no longer in my library, but worst of all, all my bookmarks were lost. AND I have tried downloading issues and after an interminable amount of time, they get as far as 99% and then start again! So not only can I not download current issue, but I’ve lost access to all the issues in my library. I’ve contacted Support numerous times but have had no help from them at all. I’ve asked for a refund and have received a deathly silence. I shall not be renewing, and sadly want nothing further to do with Gardeners’ World Magazine in any format..Version: 5.4.1
