✓ Occasional moments of great designI really want to like this. but the great moments are few and far between. Some moments are just pretentious. Most of the game can be powered through without much real challenge. Some gameplay obstacles are extremely creative and well crafted, but they're immediately repeated with little variation. The "unlocked content" is best ignored; I'd like to think it's interesting to someone, but face it: anyone interested in font history already does. Players launch this app for a challenging game, not for marginally educational and clumsily-presented sidelines. I hope this will be built upon. This is a great start, but get some level designers who have some experience. Make it obvious to the player when you're supposed to drop a lower level and when that drop will kill the player. And make the lecture pages optional, something that can be easily ignored..Version: 1.3
✓ Beautiful! When it runs, that is...I so hate giving this game anything less than 5 stars. It's beautiful, inventive, smooth and fun...except it crashes nonstop on my iPad mini (1st gen). Read a collectible? CRASH. Try to load the Gothic level? CRASH. Fall in a pit? CRASH. I think I'll keep this potential gem installed for a bit longer in the hopes that it will be updated and I can play it. As it is, however, it's unplayable..Version: 1.3

✓ Great game if I could play it!I played this game as a kid on my sisters iPad and absolutely adored it, mega fun way to spend my free time and such a whimsical premise. However I am currently experiencing issues after redownloading it in which after collecting my first asterisk the game will not let me advance, very frustrating since I know this is a great game, perhaps the game needs to be updated but it would be really cool to play it again..Version: 2.0

✓ Disappointing.What I was hoping would be the perfect combination of beautiful gameplay and type nerdery ended up just grating on my nerves. The game itself is fine, but the atrociously designed (and occasionally incorrect) historical information just ruined it for me. ✓ Great game play, horrible typographyAs a game, the physics and adventure are fantastic. Various levels are like puzzles and the game generously lets you start where you left off when you die. However, for a game that is about the history of type, the historical narratives are very poorly written, are grammatically incorrect, and are downright ugly. Paragraphs have rivers of space, poor use of letter spacing, and are missing hyphenations in the justified alignment. There is a disconnect between the game and its theme. ✓ Great Game; One Big FlawThis game is interesting, beautiful, and fun (for those who aren't crazy about typography). However, it doesn't deserve five stars in my book due to a major flaw. The app crashes a lot, and it gets more frequent as the game goes on. I'm at the point where I can't load the Helvetica level because it crashes every time (Helvetica isn't even a complicated typeface!). Otherwise, the game is great. P.S. ✓ Beautiful but frustratingThis game is visually and aurally stunning. I love typography, so I was very excited to play it. The challenges are fun, varied and often surprising. The typographic history is detailed and interesting but not used as part of the game, which I found disappointing. The biggest problem for me is the lack of consistency in the responsiveness to actions. Sometimes when I tip to the right or left it speeds and other times barely responds; sometimes when I press to "jump" it responds instantly but other times it goes nowhere. This meant that some challenges were just frustrating and the pleasure went out of the game - i knew what I needed to do to adjust my actions but I couldn't develop a sensitivity because of the inconsistent response. ✓ ARRRRRGH!!!What a beautiful game - a beautiful, frustrating, and altogether wonky way to spend time. I've been putting off reviewing for a while now because I've been vacillating between 5 stars and 1. As a typophile, the gorgeous graphics and the (somewhat disjointed and poorly spaced) histories are incredibly engaging and I look forward to each new font and font developer. Finally a game aimed at me! 5 stars! However, I am no gamer and it took me quite some time to figure out what the hell was going on with the controls. Ditto for the levels. After muddling though, it was a relief to read blogs and reviews complaining of the same control issues. This needs to be addressed but because progression is possible, it's not critical. What really prompted me to finally write this review was/is the absurdly frustrating tracking of levels. Unless I am missing a simple "save" button or command, this game is unable to track my progress accurately, thus causing much frustration and waning interest. I've gone though 1/2 a level and stopped then was brought back close to the same spot with all my collections intact upon resuming. On other levels (Clarendon) no matter how far I progressed, each time I resumed play, I was brought back to the beginning and had lost all my letters, ampersands and asterisks. CRAZY making! While this really should be a two until the bugs are worked out, it's a three because of its sheer beauty..Version: 1.3

✓ Looks interesting, doesn't workI'd love to know what comes after cave paintings. As soon as the little page opens to read about cave paintings it freezes up. You can touch different areas and hear what's supposed to be happening, but the screen never changes. It's just stuck on cave painting history. ✓ Beautifully made game but usability issuesThe game is beautifully made and i was eager to play it. sounds, graphics and gameplay are awesome. However, there are a few issues that stood out: 1. doesn't save where you left off - the navigation is very close to the home button and i accidentally pressed the home button. once resumed, it took me back to the beginning of the level. argh! i would've expected it to pause automatically when minimised and let me resume the game. 2. multi profile support - doesn't seem to allow for multiple people sharing an ipad and wanting their own game..Version: 1.1

✓ ChallengingGreat game but sometimes the buttons will not respond and the two balls will go in reverse as opposed to what you have pressed. ✓ ExquisiteExquisite, but.... I am not a gamer so I don't know how it's supposed to work. It takes me a while to figure out each sequence in a font (level?). More help for us non-gamers would be helpful. I absolutely hate that what I do once for each font must be re-done each time I close the app. That means I have to start all over again. I have been doing the same font now for almost a day and cannot get even the initial A-B-C done. I may end up deleting the app since its beauty is becoming totally obscured by my ever-growing frustration. Almost addictive... but too annoying to be so.
