✓ Surprisingly good portI don't have faith in touch controls for old classics but this surprised me. It's not perfect and it's not exactly the same but it is enough that I'm having a lot of fun reliving the game on the go! The controls would benefit from a sensitivity setting. Otherwise, graphics are smooth, only minor slowdowns occasionally when lots of stuff is happening. You can set the graphics filter and interlaced modes on or off. My original review text follows: I have not yet tried this using a 3rd party controller but I am very pleased it supports them. The native controls come in two flavours. The D-pad based one is, personally speaking, unworkable. But the other (where you slide your finger across the screen to position the ship) is actually very good. It's not as precise as Cave's Deathsmiles -- or, to be more accurate, it feels like it needs to be a tad more sensitive to match up to the tight manoeuvring required by this game. Graphically and aurally, this port is spot on. This is a fun but extremely challenging game..Version: 1.0.3

✓ Great game!I loved R-type growing up. I was never really that good, but it was still always fun. I'm glad you guys made this friendly with the Moga ace controller. It works really well with it. It's one of the reasons I bought rtype 2 even though I already had the first one from you guys. My only complaint is that the game doesn't disable auto lock. After a minute my phone goes to sleep since I haven't touched the physical screen. I can just disable auto lock manually, but its a bit of a pain to remember..Version: 1.0.3

✓ Please add easy mode!Love this game when it was a quarter operated arcade game, and loved it on the PlayStation (R-Type Final). I'm able to almost finish the game on those platforms, but on the iPad Air, I can't even get pass stage2! The virtual D-pad is near impossible, while touch is near spot-on. However, it's almost impossible to dodge the hordes of bullets/missles when your finger/hand is blocking the screen/view! PLEASE add an easy mode option, when folks can pass easy mode, they can move on to normal and insane. Great job with the sounds/graphics. ✓ R-Type 2It's SO FREAK'N GREAT having both this and the original R-Type available on my phone. These two games were the first shmups that I ever played and the fact hat I'm playing them almost 30 years later is a testament to how incredibly amazing they are. And... thousands of people are in the same boat as I am - so, if you're questioning yourself while hovering over the 'buy' button, I'll just say this:;: DotEmu has done a FANTASTIC job porting this over to the touch-screen. There's plenty of options and the relative touch controls are P E R F E C T. You can also play with a virtual joystick if that's what you'd like, and they included the option to move all the buttons around and resize them. It also has MFi support - so if a controller is more up your alley, you're set. You can also change the video settings so that the aspect ratio is 1:1 to the original. You can toggle the graphic filtering on and off and you can also add scan lines if that's your thing. They've also added an unlimited mode so that you can play all the way through to the end with an infinite amount of continues - as well as an Insane mode that you can unlock after beating the game on Normal. All of this to say - THIS PORT IS PERFECT! If you're an R-Type fan, there's no reason you shouldn't get this. If you're a shmup fan, there's no reason you shouldn't smash that BUY button. And if you're curious about one of the best shoot 'em ups of ALL TIME - you needn't worry about getting an inferior version - in fact, I choose to play this version rather than the PlayStation version I have sitting under my TV - it's THAT.
