DRAGON QUEST VIII for Positive User Reviews

I like the minor changes. 3DS Soon.I played the original PS2 version, and I really like the small changes made to the game. The "Auto-walk" is great so you're only moving the camera rather than constantly keeping the joystick forward with your finger. "Benediction" is removed, and EXP Needed is added into the "attributes" menu. Hero no longer turns Super Saiyan when in "Super High Tension"; kind of a bummer but it's alright, we still get the Magic Bikini. The new Menu UI is great, easy, and the directional joystick is adjustable to the Left/Center/Right positions, and in size. On iPad, I recommend joystick on the sides, and in Small; Center position for iPhone/Touch. **SPOILER**For those who played the original, "Alchemy" is now instantaneous rather than walking endlessly. These are just a few great changes. That being said, Nintendo 3DS has released the Japanese Remake, and soon for NA. New story scenes, maybe missions, and PLAYABLE CHARACTERS. As of now, I only know of 2 characters, maybe they've added more. I'm on my 3rd Run now, and despite the guides made for beating the game, how the characters ends up becoming is UP TO YOU. Choose your role!.Version: 1.1.2

Love the gameExcellent graphics, love the controls, but it occasionally crashes..Version: 1.0.0

True classic, great on iPadThis is an amazing game, well worth the price tag - a full 40 hour epic and beautiful RPG with a great story. Up there with the very best Japanese RPG games ever made, and great to finally be able to play it on the move..Version: 1.0.0

Wot no Dragon Soul?I've enjoyed playing this a lot and would recommend it to anyone else who likes turn based RPGs Got Hero all the way up to level 65 but no new ability in this version :(.Version: 1.0.0

ExcellentThe game doesn’t use a poorly coded emulator like FF8 uses. It’s developed unsung the unity engine for smooth and high performance gameplay. It doesn’t cook your phone or lag. Very well done. Please remake FF8 in the same way so we can enjoy that title also. Very very well done..Version: 1.1.3

Awesome Experience! This game has a wonderful storyline, and well developed characters. It’s simplistic enough to for anyone to start playing, and yet complex enough to entertain even hard core gamers. The one let down that I have is that on the mobile app version of the game, the characters Voice’s have been removed, and everything is in text only. This is personally a huge disappointment for me, and I would really like to see the audio files added back to the game. It really helps players bond better with the characters and the storyline. Having said that, this is a game that you could play around the clock for weeks even months at a time, and it’s well worth every penny!.Version: 1.1.3

One of the best mobile gamesI ended this game a few years ago longest hardest game I played on a phone a average person couldn’t beat this game take a lot of patient & decision making to play & end thus game they need more dragon quest games like this only game close to this monster hunter.Version: 1.1.3

One of the best games of all timeI understand this game can be a total grind fest, but to me that has never taken away the fun and creativity of this game. I have probably played it 5-6 times all the way through between the ps2 version and mobile and I still love it. The story, the missions, and the combat is just amazing. 100% recommend if you even remotely like turned based combat!.Version: 1.1.2

Best throw back ever!Thank yoy Square for putting this on here. I cant get this game ever becAuse its so expensive to get so much of a throw back. Even though i cant get voice acting. I still get Dragon Quest 8 running on my Iphone SE (2020). Quality is just like i remember from the PS2 Days “Might Even Load and Run Faster Now Actually”. Im so grateful. From the bottom of my heart as a child. Been a fan since the Nes Days. So im good with any kind of graphics i can get a hold of..Version: 1.1.3

Masterpiece RebornI had missed out this title when it was originally released on the PS2 and when I saw this title on the App Store I did not hesitate to pick it up. At the $15 price tag, I would say it is worth every penny. Truth be told, I have been pretty disappointed with Square Enix in the last little while. Because the titles they had been releasing felt like a money grab with silly in app purchase. However I am glad they are returning to their roots and bring out these great classic titles from their company's libraries. DQVIII has fantasy storytelling and colourful and lovable cast of characters. Graphics is great for a port and the music is amazing. A long enjoyable title that allows save anywhere (except in towns) which is great for burst plays on the go. Definitely recommended title for any RPG fans..Version: 1.0.0

Potentially great but some huge flawsIm fantastic at adapting to even the worst of touch controls, but this is just too much, on an ipad it does not work, it is so flawed, the camera movement needs to be like a typical fps but its not its just a camera you slide left and right making movement very rigid, even the joystick is terrible, i really wanted to support this game and i have many friends who were going to buy this untill they saw me play it, it changed there mind. I hope the devs realise how important quality controls for the ipad are, and also to add the voices as their are plenty of games bigger then this!.Version: 1.0.0

Surprisingly goodI knew the game itself was amazing, but I'm not a fan of Square-Enix's iOS ports generally (basically feels like you're fighting the interface to get to the game). On seeing that this was portrait-only, I'd pretty much accepted that this would be similarly shoddy, but it actually works terrifically. You can definitely tell that the game itself wasn't *designed* for a touch-screen interface, but the port has been so well thought through that it still feels superb, and I actually think the portrait decision was inspired for the iPhone. Less convinced about the iPad layout, especially with the portrait letter-boxing (it's not full-screen), but it's still solid enough..Version: 1.0.0

Major Issues With Clarity Regarding Cloud SavesThis has been an absolute joke, I’ve played all weekend and try to synchronize save data which should just simply swap out whatever is the most recent save files between your device you’ve been playing on, and the cloud. However, this is not the case, and they make it very unclear as to what you’re supposed to do in order to not lose a weekend worth of save games! Does it make sense to deal with a system that doesn’t show you what kind of replacement file from the cloud you’re about about to get in exchange for your weekend worth of play? NO! I’ll be happy to give the fifth star back if square fixes this in an update, and that goes for all the other DQ titles with this problem. Some things are plain ruined by mobile..Version: 1.1.3

My Favorite Game and RPG Ever! This is my favorite game ever. I didn’t get a chance to play it on PS2, and first played it hear on mobile. It is like the original PS2 version released in Japan with no voices and a beautiful midi soundtrack instead of orchestral. But the graphics are much sharper and look great! And it fits in your pocket! This is a huge world and beautiful story in your pocket, updated for latest iOS devices, and has cloud saves again. I highly recommend this game! NOW, Square Enix, can you please localize Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest Monsters Terry’s Wonderland here in the Americas? Please!.Version: 1.1.3

My favourite gameI have spent 100’s of hours playing this on mobile alone but I wish they had the remastered added content.Version: 1.1.3

AwesomeHuge fan of this game!! So stoked! But it crashes often. If it's fixed, I would give it five stars....Version: 1.0.0

Landscape mode please!!Come on SE, give us an update with a landscape option for this fab game please, then you'll have a true 5 star game..Version: 1.0.0

Fantastic gameI remember playing this when I was 15 loved it then and now 11 years later still fantastic great addition to the dragon quest series would recommend this to first time and fans of the series, only down fall no voice acting but still a great storyline..Version: 1.1.2

Amazing controls, great game, needs iCloud fixPlease fix iCloud functionality!! First off this is the best control scheme I've ever experienced in iOS. It's perfect to play in short bursts as well as long sessions. It utilizes the screen perfectly as you don't have to hands blocking it. I love the portrait mode as I feel having the phone in landscape mode is awkward and unbalanced. The game is also very fun, deep and beautiful. Can be A bit grindy at times but that's all part of Dragon Quest games. Please convert more games to this control scheme!!.Version: 1.1.2

Needs Voice ActingGreat game and the portrait mode is lovely and works great on the iPhone. But without the voice acting it’s a weird, quite and almost eerie experience. It’s simply not engaging enough! Please add original voice acting as a optional download..Version: 1.1.3

Glitchy but great! It is a fantastic game that I loved playing on PS2, and this version is a good attempt at rekindling that love. The gameplay menu is simpler to use, and the lack of waiting plus the bulking of items in alchemy is a god send (although some newer recipes would be lovely too) My issue is due to the software. Currently at ruined abbey, and whenever combat starts, the frame-rate of combat sporadically stops and then the screen takes me back to the the home screen. If it's an issue with the data then would love if they can resolve this..Version: 1.0.0

Just wish It would rotate to landscapeThis game is amazing, which is par for any dragon quest game, however I have a hard time enjoying any game in portrait mode it just feels unnatural, I know there must be a reason for this choice but it is still unfortunate and any effort it takes to fix this would be worth it..Version: 1.1.3

Finally....Since Square Enix ignores its North American Dragon Quest fan base so often it's nice to at least get this port. We don't have DQ7 or DQX or many others so it's nice to get just this. Amazing game. 10/10.Version: 1.0.0

Incredible!!!I played this game back on the PS2 when it first came out. It became a personal favourite of mine and have completed more times than I’d like to admit. The story is brilliant and characters are perfect. I was amazed when I stumbled across it on IOS. I haven’t stopped playing it since I bought it. Definitely worth the price as you will spend about 160h playing the game, levelling up, searching for hidden chests and completing dungeons and puzzles. If you buy it my first tip is level up to level 6 put your skills points on Charisma and Swords and use Yangus skill points on Axes and Humanity. 2nd tip explore while progressing through the game that way you 1 make bare p 2 you level up according to where you are in the game. My last tip don’t sell anything unless it’s Monster Coins. You will want to save all your equipment and items for when you unlock a certain Alchemy pot. Enjoy this masterpiece..Version: 1.1.3

Thank you for fixing the portI can finally give this port a 5/5 it runs buttery smooth even on my iPhone 6s after the update. Only took 4 years but better late than never!.Version: 1.1.3

A great classic game.Love the new quick save feature. Camera is decent, but can use improvement. Can crash unexpected and needs to be saved often. Overall, a great choice to port over from Ps2..Version: 1.0.0

My favorite childhood gameVery well imported from PS2 to mobile device. Controls are fluid, combat is just as I remember it from 10-11 years ago. The only concern I have is that the voice acting wasn't imported from PS2, but it isn't so bad. All in all, this game is absolutely amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone who is searching for an adventure game filled with depth and an open world to explore. My personnal favorite PS2 game, and my favorite from the Dragonquest series..Version: 1.1.2

Awesome ps2 portWell worth the price considering I paid $99 for the ps2 version. They added touch controls and has an ease one touch controls. Takes some time to get used to but works well. Only negative is that the voices are cut and it's not orchestral but this is needed as the file size would have been ridiculous and doesn't necessary make much difference to me music wise to be honest. It sounds fantastic! Also using an iPhone 5 and experiencing no frame rate issues at all in or out of battle. Using that emulator psx2 suggested from another reviewer doesn't work unless you use the correct settings and have a decent graphics card..Version: 1.0.0

Better than expectedIt took a while to get used to the unconventional UI and the blurry movement transitions ( low frame rate) but it's surprisingly playable if you could overcome these two flaws..Version: 1.0.0

儿时的记忆希望可以玩到dqm.Version: 1.1.2

Akira ToriyamaVoices are cut off because it would be too heavy otherwise, so it's fine. A shame you can only play vertical, which is a little weird for the iPad, but a part from that its a wonderful game. I love the design of the characters and how they evolve in the story, the design of all the minsters (you can review them by family, region, and you will even have a little story about each one of them). It is a master piece from the creator of Dragon Ball Z what can Insayy. The. Firts app I've bough and is worth it..Version: 1.0.0

Amazing Game, Kinda Buggy PortThe fact that such a massive game is on iOS in it's entirety (minus the voice acting, which is such a pity...) is incredible! I played this game when I was younger and remember loving it but not being able to remember too many details - this port brought it all back. Pretty much all the features from the original are here, even with some improvements like the alchemy pot not taking half a century of running around to work. The lack of voice acting in the original isn't preferable, as mentioned before, but I can understand with such a big game being made to fit phones and iPads. My one major problem with the port is how often it crashed - it seemed to crash fairly regularly after a relatively small amount of game progress and seemed to get worse with more progress. This was somewhat offset with the very regular auto saves after each battle and after a transition, but made major boss battles feel like Russian roulette in terms of whether you'd have to restart the whole thing or not (also it crashed sat LEAST three times in the final segment, so I had to spend about 40 mins just going through all of it again repeatedly). I'm not sure if that's just my iPad but all other apps work fine even in a a hot state so it seems to be just this. Other than that - and getting used to the touchscreen joystick thingy - this is basically the original game, polished a little bit and with the voices cut off to pack it into a neat little downloadable bundle!.Version: 1.0.0

Thank You!For those who'll read this (and other reviews) to determine whether or not to get this game... I say.. Get it! It's just like the PS2 version and nostalgia flows out of every corner. It makes you relive your childhood (If you played it before of course). However, there is no voice acting (but if you played it that much you could just play the voices in your head!) and although the music is the same as the original, it is a midi-like 'DS' type version. Of course this is just nitpicking but we all can't have everything we want. The controls aren't preferable, they do make it playable though. BUT I doubt there is a more efficient method of control. All in all, one of the best investments I've made. ESPECIALLY for a ported game. Now only if they ported onto next-gen 😉.Version: 1.0.0

Love me some DQ!!!No not Dairy Queen Dragon Quest !!!!.Version: 1.0.0

This was a treat. ;)I was very hesitant to to pay this much for a “mobile” game. I am glad I did my homework to find out that this App was not only a sufficient way to play the game… but a fantastic experience. I am not a fan of lengthy JRPG time with a handheld. An iPad is so much more versatile over a 3DS. I have young kids and we do a lot of retro gaming. The kids just loved looking over my shoulder to follow along on the story. We had a lot of fun talking about slimes, puff puff and plenty of crafting. I thought I would have a massive issue with touch controls. I was very wrong there. My only issue was not having the landscape mode work with the Apple Keyboard. Easy to get past… Hardware:2020 IPad Pro.Version: 1.1.3

Fun but...Great game. Lots of fun but left wanting more at the end. 5 stars if they ported the 3DS memory lane part..Version: 1.1.3

Dragon quest 8Great game tremendous depth and playability! Please more Dragon quest games for iPad!.Version: 1.1.2

AwesomeOne of the best jrpg i played. If you played ni no kuni it s really similar but honestly square enix put a lower price please it s a ps2 game....Version: 1.1.1

SuperbThe controls take a bit of getting used to but the lovable world and sheer amount of content are all still there..Version: 1.0.0

CrashingWould be a five star game but very frustrating when your killing a boss and it keeps crashing sort it out.Version: 1.0.0

Awesome port!I loved this game on PS2, wasn't to sure about the locked portrait mode and new controls but after about an hour or so I was used to them and find it rather intuitive, mostly. I'm playing on a 6 Plus and it runs pretty well :).Version: 1.0.0

Amazing so farBeen playing the game for about 27 hours (thanks to the smash hero reveal) and I am having a ton of fun. Definitely recommend if you are an RPG fan..Version: 1.1.3

First time playerI never played Dragon Quest 8 when it was first on the PS2. I read about this port and bought it while I was on vacation. I ended up putting 65 hours into the game and beating it. It's a great game and a solid port. I would love to see this done with other titles.Version: 1.0.0

DQ8Incredible game, just as good as PS2 version minus the voice acting!.Version: 1.1.2

Brilliant!Great port and my favourite in the series. Must have played through the PS2 version 4 times. Controls take a bit of getting used to but after a few hours it's incredible. Best thing is the alchemy pot can mix multiple items at once now and all are mixed instantly. No more running around for ages waiting for it to finish..Version: 1.0.0

AMAZING PS2 PORT TO iOSWas a bit worried with the high price tag i would get stuck with an average port. Wasn't keen on the portrait view but i wouldn't have it any other way. An update would be nice to just fix any bugs and make gameplay more smoother. Otherwise a great port!.Version: 1.0.0

Voices! You need to hit the voices on an update! Absolutely love it though, portrait mode is awesome would love option for both though.Version: 1.0.0

Great portAlways wanted to play dq8 so was happy to see it in the store! It's a great port and the controls are good but take getting used to..Version: 1.0.0

New UpdateI don’t know what all they did on this update (the first in two years) besides update the game to correspond with the iPhone X screen size, but they changed other stuff. The game runs so incredibly smoothly on my X now, it’s at least 30 FPS if not 60 constantly. If you have an iPhone X or newer I would greatly recommend this game. It’s always been a fantastic game, but with this newest update, they made it a fantastic port..Version: 1.1.3

Must haveBest rpg on the App Store. Cloud saving allows you to play on the go on your phone and at home on your iPad. Must have for any rpg fans..Version: 1.0.0

Best DQ game ever - Great iOS - iCloud needs fixingLove the game. The port to iOS is really good. Love the portrait mode. The controls are fine. I recommend this game to anyone who likes JRPG games. The earlier DQ games are also good on iOS. One glitch is iCloud save does not work for me in this game, so I can't upload / download saves between my iPad and iPhone- bummer; I see this problem was reported before. Gave it 5 stars anyway as it is a great game..Version: 1.1.2

Excellent portrait modeSo far loving the one handed portrait mode gameplay. No idea why more game developers don't make more of these, makes pick up and play so much more appealing. I'd certainly buy more games that you're to play in portrait mode and one handed! Have Tetris, Pacman, (and the usual Temple Run type suspects, though I prefer the classics!) and now this! I'll update more on this gameplay once I've really got into the game..Version: 1.0.0

What happened to the music? Both the ps2 and 3ds versions have an amazing musical score. On mobile, though, everything sounds so bad. I played iv-vi on mobile, and the music sounds so much better on there. What happened Square? Even with this complaint, the game is still enjoyable. Voice acting would be cool though ;).Version: 1.1.3

AwesomeThis was my favourite game on the PS2. I read the various reviews on this iOS version, most were favourable a few not so, but I thought I've just got to have it anyway! I'm so glad I did, it is awesome! Takes me right back to when I played it on the PS2. I personally really like the portrait view on my iPhone it works perfectly for me. The graphics and sound are top notch and if course the storyline and gameplay are second to none. If you've played this before I suggest you get it. If you've never played it before then you are in for a real treat!.Version: 1.0.0

Cloud save sluggishHandoff between cloud save and devices is frustratingly inconsistent and slow. I like being able to switch from my iPhone 8 to my iPad Pro (1st gen) when I have time. I do enjoy this game though and it runs otherwise really smoothly. I’ve played 16ish hours so far and love it. Just got to King Trodain’s castle. 🥺.Version: 1.1.3

Amazing update for iPhone X!!!I’ve had this game for awhile and always have the bad luck of never being able to finish it. But since I got a newer iPhone I decided to start it up again, to my surprise a few days later there was a massive update taking full capabilities of the iPhone X models screen and processing power. Full screen support, amazing resolution, and even upping the FPS!!! If you’ve ever had a doubt on buying the game before on one of the X models you won’t be disappointed it looks and feels great! P.S. they also fixed the problem with the cloud saves. Thanks Square this was an awesome update long in the waiting, I hope you get a chance to do these kind of updates for most of your other games, people will definitely be glad to buy.😁👍.Version: 1.1.3

Almost there!!Very good, very similar to original. One downfall you don’t regain health and magic after level ups..Version: 1.1.3

Character? But good landscapeGood landscape but you should be able to design your own character and choose your own people to battle with you like the the next one after, and see what you have equipped on the person to make it a more personal game that makes you feel more involved.Version: 1.0.0

Truly wonderful and faithful port + 1 minor gripeI absolutely love this game and being able to play it on mobile is fantastic. The graphical elements are a delight. My only gripe is with the controls but not with how they're arranged. I the the portrait style was a risky decision that paid off immensely. This orientation makes this game much easier to just pick up anytime and play. Landscape games make me feel more like I have to invest some serious game time in them every time I boot them up but not DQVII. I totally feel like I can just sneak in 5 or 10 minutes whenever. No, my gripe is with how the controls *look*. The rest of this game is beautiful and carefully assembled but the control overlay looks like a hideous afterthought. But the same kind of love into the control interface's graphical elements to make this game perfect..Version: 1.0.0

Fantastic!Must buy for any rpg fans.Version: 1.0.0

Great Game.I played this on my Playstation 2 long time ago. Love it on the iPad and I look forwards to spending many happy hours playing it again..Version: 1.0.0

Fantastic! It's more or less the same game as the original, with a few changes here and there. It's quite advanced for an app, with 3D graphics and an actual full ledge game, over 50 hours of you just try to speed run! Be warned though, you need a good amount of space (about a GB of space) and an iPhone 5 AT LEAST. The people who experience crashes probably have either no space, or under an IPhone 5, so you should be good eitherwise.Version: 1.1.2

Great GameNever played a DQ game before but I'm actually enjoying this game more than some FF games. Hope more DQ games get released in N/A. Update: 50 plus hours in the game still amazing and a lot of content..Version: 1.0.0

It's dragon questPlayed it a while ago so I'm not sure on the state of occasional crashes. But it's a great game. For those who say it has no story and all you fight is blobs idk what your playing. For 20$ I would say it is worth it unless you want to get the 3ds remake for more..Version: 1.1.2

Dragon Quest VIIIPlayed this game years ago when it was first released on the PS2. It still holds up today. Looks and plays amazing on ISO! Now if only SE would do a port of Final Fantasy X..Version: 1.0.0

GoodGame story is a bit slow.Version: 1.1.3

CrashesWhat is the developer email address so i can email them about it crashing on me?.Version: 1.0.0

PLEASE FIX CLOUD SAVE!I am so worried about breaking/losing my device and having to start all over because the cloud save doesn’t work. This game would have been 5 star if it wasn’t for this. I did end up losing my save and having to start over. I wish i never bought this Update: THANK YOU!.Version: 1.1.3

Amazing portDefinitely one of the best ports I've ever played. Well thought out and intuitive. Touch screen controls can be annoying in confined spaces but only presents a minor issue. As far as portrait mode goes...you get used to it. It feels ok, even on the iPad, and focuses on the graphical detail more. So I think it works well. For all those complaining about the lack of orchestral score and removal of voice acting, considering the original PS2 game was around 4.7GB of data, removing the sound files actually makes sense. I play on silent and let my memory fill in the blanks of Yangus' cockney accent, so being quite frank, for those 'true fans' highlighting this as abysmal, just deal with it..Version: 1.0.0

A near perfect portIf the original game was a 9/10, I give this version a 7.5/10. It loses that 1.5 for three reasons. Firstly, you can only play the game in portrait mode. Secondly, touch controls aren't perfect. Finally, the biggest disappointment for me was the lack of voice acting. The voices in the original version really helped sell me on the characters and learn to like them..Version: 1.0.0

Brilliant as ever, portrait mode a massive painDQ8 is easily the most visually gorgeous game in the franchise: vast open world, lovely attention to detail, cutscenes that ooze personality, and Toriyama’s iconic art style. This app continues the series tradition of extremely high-quality mobile ports—I’ve had no crashes, no lag, just smooth sailing all the way. My only complaint is that the fixed portrait mode, a longtime quirk of the mobile versions, becomes wildly annoying in ways it hasn’t been in the past. Previous games have all been top-down, so while the aspect ratio has always been a little restrictive it has never truly gotten in the way; however in this eighth installment even the ability to toggle the camera can’t make visibility any less like looking through a crack in a door and it makes navigating frustrating. I don’t know how big a job it would be to offer a landscape orientation, but it would be deeply appreciated..Version: 1.1.3

Screen resolutionNeeds patch for new iPad devices, game is currently bordered off. Would also be nice for an bigger download option that supported voice acting, internal storages are big enough to easily support and extra few gig. Amazing value for money as it though.Version: 1.1.3

Awsome but needs the voice actingThe game is good but it would be 1000000% better with the vocals.Version: 1.1.3

Great game.Dragon Quest VIII is a true classic. However it must be noted that this is a port of the Japanese version of the game which means it lacks the voice overs and orchestrated music that was in the western release. It's still an amazing game and worth the purchase..Version: 1.0.0

Very good!!! Actually impressedThe port on iOS is great, the controls are nice and well thought. Graphics are as good as ps2. A bit expensive but it's a great rpg to own! If you can wait get it in discount for 20$ if not don't be afraid to pay the full price you won't regret it. Using a iphone se and no trouble at all so far and no abusive encounter with monster when you walk..Version: 1.1.2

Superb game. Glad I bought itInitially I was a little hesitant to buy it because of the bad reviews. But having played through the game (80+ hours) now on my iPhone 6S +, I had zero performance issue. There’s no terrible frame rate (it does get a little low when flying but not bad at all). In the 80+ hours of playing, the game crashed perhaps once. It works perfectly. I don’t even mind the finicky control. It’s amazing to be able to play such a big game on my phone.Version: 1.1.3

Highly addictive and so beautifulWell I love the dragon quest series and have for years this instalment which is a port of the original btw is great and has allowed me to relive a small part of my childhood, good job Enix love you guys :).Version: 1.1.1

Continuing My QuestI’ve been playing this series sequentially since the original Dragon Warrior came to the US. It was time for VIII and I was glad I could play this on modern hardware. The camera can be rough, and some of the older textures / cut scenes look a bit rough stretched out on an iPad Pro. Despite that, the game was great to play on this platform and a fun play all around..Version: 1.1.3

Good but no cloud save.Looks really good on my iPhone X! I wish cloud save was working so I could continue to play on my iPad 😟 the only other thing is I really wish there was an option to download the voice acting. I do really miss that from the old PS days. Other than that the graphics and the smoothness really make for a wonderful game!.Version: 1.1.3

Great fun20 hours in and this reminds me of final fantasy 7 - good RPGs and time waster if you like this kind of thing. Specialise axes for yangus - skill points can't be reset and you won't be using a club for long.Version: 1.0.0

Classic ps2 RPGCame to review the iOS/mobile version. The game itself is a classic and not much else needs to be said on that note. Regarding the mobile port and borrowing from other reviewer’s common complaints, I am happy to report that I think the game runs fine on iPhone and the control system is absolutely OK. It is locked to portrait mode, but can at least set the thumb stick to center/right/left depending on personal prefs. Also updating to note that I love the old school soundtrack and don’t mind no voice acting at all. Playing on a 12 pro Max..Version: 1.1.3

The StorylineI really love the story line for Dragon Quest, I'm really in love with the characters and the storylines it self. The graphics are really good. I'm not quite use to the iPhone/tablet controls though. /)..(\ I'm just use to the DS version, but will eventually get use the iPhone/tablet controls..Version: 1.1.2

Good, but requires improvementI bought an iTunes voucher especially for this game as soon as I spotted it on the App Store. Excellent game, but the cinematics don't appear to be remastered, and it seems to lack voice actors which brought charm to the original. Also, would a landscape mode hurt?.Version: 1.0.0

CameraFor a port it is great. All I have is that i think the camera turning for when you swipe at the bottom should be a bit bigger. It turns too slow for me. Wonderful nonetheless..Version: 1.0.0

Love dragon quest VIII!!This is a great game I love from childhood! I do like the changes they have made, but I just wish the voices were played on the iPhone. It would make a huge difference, and I hope they put it on a future update! But great game, love it, and can't stop playing!.Version: 1.1.2

Attention to detail 10/10What a beautiful game. I took a gamble with this as it's price tag was so steep. But I'm so glad I did, it's a proper game for once, no adverts or ploys to get you spending on micro transactions, just a proper gamers game for once, such a breath of fresh air. And my favourite bit is the thing that I was most unsure of when deciding to buy it, portrait is just such a more relaxed way to play a game on the I phone..Version: 1.0.0

Finally!!I wanted this game to come out for such along time waited almost two years !! i love it ! i play on a 4s and its fine not choppy and doesnt freeze or anything!!! LOVE IT!!!.Version: 1.0.0

Amazing game! Can't fault this game absolutely love the dragon quest series and this was by far my favourite game back on the PlayStation 2 and I can't wait for the 3DS game to be released I brought this in hopes of it speeding up the release and also to rekindle my love for this and many more dragon quest games..Version: 1.1.1

Must play JRPGAmazing game, although the vertical only view is rather poor form on iPad. I've played it before, but because of silly view lock managed to get only 48min in so far before downloading some old Final Fantasy titles. Can the devs please update and change this?! If not I'd like a refund..Version: 1.0.0

A brilliant gameDragon quest 8 is a brilliant and beautiful game, being a remake of a playstation 2 video game. It works perfectly on the iOS, and cannot recommend it enough.Version: 1.0.0

Excellent game!I just bought this gem and I haven’t really invested time in it for 5 years so revisiting this masterpiece is a great feeling. It looks great and runs smoothly for me (I’m using a iPhone XR) only downside is there is no voice acting which the PS2 port had but everything else is so amazing you pretty much forget about that. Everything is very easy to navigate once you get used to it and I’m so happy to have this game in my pocket or at home when I feel like playing a great RPG. I was pretty surprised to see this epic game on the App Store so it was a must have when I seen it. Definitely the best RPG I’ve ever played and would highly recommend for anyone who’s interested in the RPG genre..Version: 1.1.3

You're better off on PS2...This game was my childhood. I finished it when I was 7. Fast forward to now, I'm 12, saw this port, and halfed the price with my dad. As expected I love the feel, the anime-esqe graphics, and the gripping music. On PS2, I rate 11/10, but there are a couple things letting the iOS port down. These are worse graphics, no voice acting, NAD the plain, boring, hard to organize inventory, all of which are perfect on PS2. That is why this is 4/5. If you want this get it on PS2 if you can, if not this is fine too. Now just port the remake to Xbox Innit just 3DS AND PS4, Square, you disappoint me. This is without a doubt the best Dragon Quest out there, and a perfect place to go for people new to the series. I will set you a challenge: beat THE DRAGOVIAN TRIALS at the ageof8, like I did. This is one of the few games, I can confidently say am good at..Version: 1.1.1

Speed up option and monsters visibleThis game is amazing just as I remembered on the ps2. But there should be a speed up option like on the ds, also monsters should be visible like the ds version phones are powerful enough to handle it would make the game much better if these options where added.Version: 1.1.3

One of the BestI've never been that interested in DQ but now that I've played this I'm starting to build my Fandom for DQ I downloaded this because I heard shell shade graphics and I was thinking Zelda Wind Waker which is one of my Favorite RPGs/ Game ever. I don't get how this has an average of 3 stars. I see a lot of 5 star or 4 star I'd say it has an average of 4-4.5 stars. It's a good game either way especially on your iPhone for a lot less than the 3DS version I'm hoping for ports of 7 and 9 I can understand if you have not updated or you have a very old device but I have a 6S Plus and when getting past intro credits into game it works well..Version: 1.1.2

Amazing rpg but could use new thingsI loved playing the demo of this on ps2 long ago. It’s impressive that it came on mobile. But it could use voice acting and also the new content thats found the Nintendo 3ds version..Version: 1.1.2

No crashing issues here8 hours in and no crashing issues at all. The portrait display took a little getting used to but works just fine. Looks good and plays great. Well worth the asking price..Version: 1.1.2

Feel perfect!Best RPG game ever!!!.Version: 1.0.0

BrilliantThis game has been one of my favourite since childhood on ps2 console. However, the downside is the dialog voice acting has been erased. I am hoping they will put it back maybe, other than that I would like to recommend this game to play!.Version: 1.0.0

Please optimize for iOS9Great port of a great game. Runs crappy on iPhone 6 tho. The game was released a few years ago now and doesn't feel as smooth as it could on newer hardware..Version: 1.0.0

Please give us Dragon Quest VII!Honestly, we had to wait forever for FF8 to come, where is DQ7?!? Also bring us Dragon Quest IX please!!! If FF3 3D and FF4 3D can appear why can’t a DS game like DQ9 appear? Seriously!.Version: 1.1.3

Landscape??Perfect game. Will be 5 stars when it has full screen and landscape mode possible. EDIT: after playing 24hours already, the portrait mode is quite suited for my iphone 5s But use of iCloud to my iPad means I would like landscape mode on that possible please! :) On my iPhone 5s I have no frame rate drop at all. :) near perfect. However on my iPad Mini (not the retina) it does slow a little in battles. But not a major game breaker..Version: 1.0.0

Thanks for X supportLooks great and runs much smoother.Version: 1.1.3

Absolute brilliantLoving this game, brings back good memories Even though there are a few issues only towards the start I love it Great RPG aswell.Version: 1.0.0

AmazingPlayStation 2. Nuff said..Version: 1.1.3

Gov,! Fantastic!!This great! DQ8 is my favorite in the series, it’s amazing that I can now play it when ever I have a chance since it’s always on my phone. I played this back on the ps2 days. Picked up the 3DS version when it came out, still play it when I have my 3DS on me (amazing port as well) but since I can’t be taking my 3DS with me around anymore like before so this is a awesome way to still have a way to play it. My only small complaint is that the voice acting is gone and that I can’t play in landscape mode but other then that it’s still a great port! 😎😁👍🙌. 5 stars ⭐️.Version: 1.1.3

Love itI cannot fault the quality of the game, having played it in my childhood, it's relatively simple to get used to the new controls. On a couple of hours in and no problems at all so far on iPhone 6. My only negative comment against the game is the original voices have been cut out. Hearing the common tone of us his really made the game more comical and enjoyable. But none the less very happy. Cannot complain about price considering the amount of hours that can and will be put into it..Version: 1.0.0

Great gameI played this game during a short weekly break. Its like a dream after walking through..Version: 1.1.3

Highly recommendIt’s pretty gud..Version: 1.1.2

It’s pretty closeTo start, to me this game is one of the best rpgs ever made, it stands right next to FF7 as one of the grand champs of games. Everything just came together in the right way with this game , that being said this is the phone version. And with the phone version, we miss out on the excellent voice acting, and some of the graphics are scaled right back, the music sounds compressed as well, as with the PS2 version you can really here the orchestra but in the phone it does not translate well. All that aside the entire DQ8 experience is here, it is formatted in such a way on your phone that you can actually move allot quicker through the menus then with a controller, which is nice later on when you want to grind for long periods of time saving seconds here and there helps with the process and your patience of leveling your characters. To be clear this is the PS2 version with no voice acting and scaled back graphics and music, but the core game is so good it overcomes any deficiencies so easily that I still give it 5 outta 5. ( Ran the game on IPhone 11 and had only one crash through the entire playthrough , when I entered the dark world following the birds shadow, lots of times interrupted by phone calls or just switching out of the game to my browsers or videos and never once did it crash the game ).Version: 1.1.3

ExpensiveAs good as this game is, it just costs way too much. Like, WAY too much. Also, we need an option to speed up combat. It drags on for too long..Version: 1.1.1

Great gameThis game runs smoothly and has a good story. I thought I was approaching the end of the game multiple times but it just kept on going :) I finally beat it and the only issue I had was that sometimes when you throw a pot or barrel it messes with your camera angle. Other than that everything was great!.Version: 1.1.3

Awesome gameI love this game, it's just like the PS2 Version, brings back so many memories, I'm so happy I can play the full game on my iPhone, there are a few differences that I wish was kept from the original, there is no voice acting in a Cut scene, just text and reading, 2nd I read that Hero no longer goes super saiyan when he is fully psyched up, that bit disappointed, I love that look special being a big DBZ fan, and a few other small changes here and there, other then that, I love the game and will continue to play it 😊 Maybe if there are any updates coming can make Hero go super saiyan again, that would be awesome, thank you 🙂.Version: 1.1.2

A ludicrously slick iOS portLike the best of Square Enix's games, this is a vast, sprawling RPG with engaging characters, an involving storyline and masses of kit, skills and enemies to acquire or defeat. However, unlike much of the publisher's iOS output, this is no SNES or even a PlayStation port, this is a PS2 game - and it still feels and plays like one. The 3D anime-style graphics are smooth, lush and superbly animated, and the soundtrack is well produced - although I imagine the absence of the voice acting is a real loss. Playing on an iPhone 4S, the portrait view is an inspired move, and does not feel like it is restricting my vision at all. Also, while there has been the odd crash, they have been surprisingly few given the magnitude of the game and the, um, slightly embarrassing number of hours I've logged in so far. With background apps shut down there have been almost no problems, especially given the very forgiving autosave system. I have had to turn off the phone only twice in, er, 100 hours plus (so far). And that playing time indicates how engrossing DQ8 truly is. Don't be put off by the price - this is worth every penny..Version: 1.0.0

Fantastic!Devoted Months to this game and now it's on my freakin' phone, awesome! I want to give this game 5 stars but the characters I grew to know and love need their voices back. Give them back their dialogue, even if it's just Yangus (funny man), and I'll happily add another star :).Version: 1.0.0

I wanted voice actingI was looking forward to this game but was soon disappointed by the lack of voice acting compared to the PS2. I don’t know why they haven’t updated it and added that in, especially when they updated it for the IPhone X..Version: 1.1.3

Best Japanese game from PS2So over joyed when I found out this game was being released again, sure does bring back good memories, story was fantastic, characters are eccentric, and when the game is complete it's not there's still many things to discover and do. 10/10 if there was ten stars XD..Version: 1.0.0

Great Port One Big BugSeems to be great so far. The graphics are beautiful and the game play is smooth. Loading times are fast so overall great so far. One thing, the game crashes every time I try to check attributes. Nothing can be selected then my character can’t move and nothing works again until I close the game. If I just ignore that it’s overall solid but it would be great to get that fixed. 5 stars once that is fixed..Version: 1.1.3

More Dragon QuestPlease bring other dragon quest titles to iOS!!.Version: 1.0.0

My favourite game on the App Store!I rarely bother to voice my opinion but this game just made me want to tell everyone how good it is! A must have for any RPG fan! (Plus the controls are great).Version: 1.0.0

Amazing! The only downside to this game is the loss of the speech audio, but it does not ruin the game, a brilliant ps2 to iOS conversion and my all time favourite game. Thank you square you are great ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.Version: 1.0.0

Near perfectionThis is an amazing port from one of my favourites it's open it's colourful it's fun I just wish it had voice acting over all great port.Version: 1.0.0

Dragon Quest IIIVI love, love this game..Version: 1.0.0

Sound issueThis is a great game. I loved it on ps2, and I love it on here. My only issue, is that I like to listen to music while I play, and as soon as I open the game, it shuts my Pandora off, even though I have the sound turned off in the game... It wouldn't take much to fix this issue...Please fix this as soon as possible!!!.Version: 1.1.2
