β Match-3 RPG BeautyDevil Shard is the latest gem from Game Stew which continues their distinctive blend of beautiful retro graphics, light RPG elements, and dark fantasy storytelling. It seems to have slightly less depth than their previous release, Tower of Fortune 2, instead acquiring a simplicity and structured upgrade system that suitably compliments the central gameplay mechanic. In previous games, Game Stew has successfully incorporated their signature style into such mechanics as the slot machine, gauge, and game & watch gameplay. In this case, they make use of the match-3 mechanic thereby joining the ranks of the hybrid genre exemplified by such classics as Dungeon Raid and Puzzle Quest. Suffice to say that the Match-3 mechanic is a perfect fit for Game Stew's idiosyncratic style. It allows for a more personal engagement than the slot machine and the finite level structure permits a greater emphasis on the Story as opposed to an endless affair. The bonus content also ensures that this game will be staying on my device for quite some time. Perhaps until a sequel comes out! I am currently Level 46 and also working toward the True Ending in the Bone Graveyard. I can't get enough. Thank you so very much to Game Stew for yet another awesome game!.Version: 1.0.1

β Disappointing?I really love this game dev's other titles, but this seems to have an unfair difficulty, perhaps this is to encourage players to buy power ups as in-app purchases. β Very Awesome GameI got this game 3 or 5 years ago when it first appeared and I played it many times since then. I cannot explain how, but the game is very esthetically appealing. It has great music and art. The gambling chance element is probably what is most fun about it. It is difficult to explain what about this is fun exactly since it is many elements together. β A good time wasterWhile this is your typical match-3 style game it separates itself with its rpg style levelling while providing a loose sort of strategy to combat. Those who played puzzle quest will Definately see a similarity to character progression but provided in an easier and watered down package. I could only really fault the game on how difficult and random the game is with an early combo killing me off in one swoop. Otherwise this is a good game and should be played in bursts. β My Favorite Game DeveloperGame Stew is by far my favorite game developer. They are the best at casual play hybrid RPGs - hands down! I have finished Tower of Fortune, Tower of Fortune 2, Ancient Legacy, and I'm in the middle of Devil Shard right now and enjoying it immensely. The thing that separates Game Stew from everyone else, to me, is the way they immerse you in a casual play game. I never feel like the game is on rails, and I always feel like I have total control over my inventory. This provides incredible replayability. Once again, I have to ask Game Stewβ¦Please make a Lord of the Rings game. These mechanisms you use such as match 3 and slots are perfect for that genre, and the retro pixel art is the perfect medium for it as well. I was looking at the top of the screens in Devil Shard and noticing the beautifully crafted landscape. I immediately started thinking of Frodo and the hobbits walking along the landscape while I tried to skillfully play the slots to see if we would make it past an Orc horde. Man how cool would it be. β AmazingI've been following these guys since their first release, and they just keep outdoing themselves. You can really tell they truly love their craft. But I don't like to leave reviews without *any* criticism, so here's my complaint for this game: it could really use some more explanation. It's been a while since I've played their other games, but I *have* played them all, extensively, and so far I can't figure out how to tell which equipment is equipped or isn't, and can't find any equip/unequip options. So far though, it seems like none of the described bonus effects are working, so I'm assuming nothing's equipped. Even just another page in the tips screen, a few bullet points on equipment, would greatly improve my experience. But please notice that even considering that, I still gave 5 stars. Quality fun here, deep enough to have fun thinking into it--but not so deep it feels like a second job, and not so shallow you have a Kairosoft moment and realize you've been doing busywork on a linear track. β Delightfully retroThis is really pleasing in a super-nostalgic way. I particularly like the way that you can move pieces without having to make pairs, thus allowing for some beneficial set-up moves. It is very robotic in it's movement and that doesn't feel quite in keeping with the old LCD style of games this is homaging. They allowed for fast movement within the limits of their technology, this by comparison, feels more forced/measured in its movement/control. This is a small gripe though. It is a good Match-3 game with a decent sense of humour and a very pleasing homage to the early days of video gaming. It's worth some time even when it gets a bit grindy..Version: 1.0.2

A few little tweaks would make a big difference. 1- I know you avoid color, but the shield and the potion are not easy to distinguish compared to games that use stark color contrast- This could use a visual update 2- I can't tell when I level up if the bonuses are cumulative- Does a level 4 "+1 to swords" mean +4 to swords? I think the tiers could use some clarity 3- It would be great if we could choose when to use items- I don't need to use arrows on the first enemies, or bandage my protector spirit..Version: 1.0.3

β Superb and AddictingA lot of developers opt to produce exceedingly complex games that can't hold anyone's attention for long. So having a game like this come along is a real treat. It hits the sweet spot between simple and complex, with upgrading items juxtaposed to a very easy-to-learn combat system. The only problems are the random increases in difficulty caused by the way the blocks drop and the fact that other players can challenge you to duels regardless of the differences in equipment. β Really fun experienceThis was my first Game Stew game and think its a pretty awesome mix of artsy effects (love the way the screen shakes when you are attacked) and solid RPG goodness. Play the ten levels of the first two areas carefully and then get insurance for your items. Play the final stage of the first area many times to get extra gold for upgrades... This isn't a bad thing as its very enjoyable. After the third area you'll be buffed enough for a smooth ride and you WILL be wowed by the whacky and unconventional art. The "Painful Fairy" is worth two bucks alone. Even made me forget about sex for a day... And that's never happend before. Hope that's a family friendly remark ;-).Version: 1.0.1
β Another score for game stew!I like everything they have made, and devil shard is no deferent. It's got a tough learning curve in the beginning and permanent death ( like all there games) but once you break through its great! Try and buff your defenses at first. Shields , hit points, ect. And up grade your equipment that max out hit points and shields. Makes things easer. Try to go for shields and potions as much if not more then attacks. And keep a supply of health potions. To keep from death. Also don't be afraid to quit out and fight another day!.Version: 1.0.1
