Sid Meier's Starships for Negative User Reviews

Boring, weak strategy, not worth priceThat about sums it up for me. Too simplistic in terms of strategy. Geographic location of systems has little to no effect on game outcome. Customization of ships is bogus, because they are all the same design and just increase in ratings as you 'upgrade'. You pay about 13$ extra for the Sid Meier name, I think..Version: 1.3

BioshockWhy buy from 2k when they don't fix or refund for iPad Bioshock. Never again. It is a fraud!!!!.Version: 1.3

You an do better SidThis game is fun for a very short time. As soon as you figure out to max energy early and overpower your ships as soon as possible you can walk through any map regardless of difficulty. I've been playing your games since the original railroad tycoon and civ, and this is a big letdown. Please turn this game into something better, their is potential..Version: 1.1

10 hoursGreat game - however, a little crashy and repetitive after the first 10 hours or so....Version: 1.3

Used to be greatUsed to be a great game. Now, simply does not work with new OS..Version: 1.3

Buggy gameGame freezes on my iPad air2. It gets stuck in a feedback loop no matter if I reset or force close the app. Buyer beware..Version: 1.3

It is crashing on my new iPadEvery time I go into any menu, such as transferring credits the game freezes. Is there no fix for this?.Version: 1.3

Overpriced, not the polished game expectedFirstly way overpriced, after playing the game I wouldn't expect more than a £3 price tag. As another reviewer mentioned I was also drawn in by the Sid Meier's name as games on the PC with his name on are well thought out and have plenty of playability. This game is pretty basic, only the graphics are polished. The ideas are good but there is no real gameplay, just a very basic build and expand. The ship battles themselves are quite good, I would say the game needs a tutorial if it was ever actually improved to the value you pay for. A very big disappointment! As an aside the game still has some bugs (the save game one where the save games disappear is an obvious one) and occasional crashes to desktop..Version: 1.1

This game is so slow it is unplayableThis game is so slow it is unplayable. I want a full refund..Version: 1.3

Better game description would've been niceThe game consists of completing missions to get resources and Tech, not to mention the gratitude of planets so that they join your alliance. Once you have enough got enough credits you can then upgrade ships etc. The front end is easy to use and very nice looking. However the big sticking point for me is that it's a race to the finish to be the overall ruler of the map and then it's Game Over. I think this lets it down hence 3 stars.Version: 1.1

Too simpleI love strategy and space and Sid, but this game is lame. Remember Masters of Orion? This game is not nearly that good. Civilizations? Its epic complexity makes this feel like rock paper scissors. It should be a lot more. At least it is down to $3. That’s not too horrid, but I’d be surprised if there was 10 hours of gameplay here. Like 300 hours of meh voice acting tho... weirdly..Version: 1.3

UnplayableGame crashes consistently on first mission..Version: 1.3

Overpriced and basicWith multiple annoyances - clunky UI, lack of any depth in science, cities or starship building, wonders that allow players to negate whole aspects of gameplay and terrible AI that makes each battle predictable and tactically easy. Opponents do not play by the same victory rules and there is no option to continue after a victory has been achieved - I uninstalled when an opponent won a wonder victory on a 'domination only' game, instantly transporting me back to the main menu with no warning..Version: 1.1

Not worth the moneyIt's pretty, some nice visuals, but the cost far exceeds what it's worth ... when you line this game up against others in its class. Other complaint is that it really lacks a decent tutorial, and a poor UI assumes a lot of the player. Disappointing, more time was needed before launch guys..Version: 1.1

ReallyI was gonna give it a chance but the graphics are from the 90s....even the text is pixelated..Version: 1.3

Poor quality portThe game just doesn’t look as good as it should visually. I’m playing it on an iPad Pro 12.5” and during combat the ships textures are just shoddy. Real shame.Version: 1.3

Boring...The pitch was nice but the gameplay tries to hard to mix strategy and combat. As a result the game fails to have a pace that makes sense and ends up being boring..Version: 1.3

DOESNT WORK!The buttons don’t work. So I can’t do anything.Version: 1.3

Great game, menu bugThere’s a new bug where menus freeze, and 2k doesn’t seem to support this title any longer. Really good game, playable any way..Version: 1.3

Sid Meier’s starshipsTotally broken. Menus freezing and not fit for sale. Should be removed..Version: 1.3

Fun gameplay but buggyFun game but extremely buggy. Domination victory doesn't seem to work properly sudden victory even though they have much less than the required scores etc. Stops working mid battle needing to reload. It is a great fun game, with nice graphics and ideas but at the moment it's poorly executed. Not currently worth the price tag..Version: 1.2

Good Gameplay Yet Short, Easy and BuggyAfter completing the game on moderate and hard within the first 2 days of buying it, I began the impossible campaign, which, though more realistically challenging, might have actually been called impossible for the reason that, halfway through the campaign, it won't let me save anymore and then soon crashes. Not worth the expensive price label. Looks like they cut corners on the game testing..Version: 1.3

Not updatedThis app is now crashing under the most recent iOS version..Version: 1.3

Weak, easy game, don't buyNobody should be able to be a Sid Meyers game on the impossible setting only their second time playing it. Ridiculously simple gameplay even though the 'spaceopedia' doesn't even work. The game makers should be embarrassed that this is on the App Store..Version: 1.3

Frustrated!Every time it's my move and I want to zoom up a bit to see better, the game thinks I want to move if I don't get two fingers to touch at the same time. So instead of zooming it moves the ship to where I touched accidentally. That goes for any accidental movement. Even if you want to pan and you touch the screen wrong your ship moves. Ggrrrrrrr. It's getting to the point that it's just no fun. Put an undo button at least or just fix it. You better hurry though only because ppl might be losing patients. It's such a good game too. One other thing....the science and metal seem very disconnect not like Civilization. Also, we are missing that same connection with the characters. In Civilization it was great because you knew who the characters were. Usually I would trash the heck out of a game that missed this stuff. But this time it just needs to be fixed quick. Thank you.Version: 1.1

Poor and overpriced. It's not epicGameplay can be fun and graphics are good, but this is not the epic game it is advertised as. - poor AI: opponents do not seem to have a strategy - buggy: it freezes and can be choppy. - diplomacy is weak, you don't have flexibility in closing deals and making this exciting. - scientific research is disappointing, no good technologies just some upgrade - there's none of the elements u like in civ genres such as culture, credible wonders, city growth (u can spend to increase city size in increment of 1bn by spending a resource that's it), no land/air/sea battles, it's just spaceships and smaller spaceships. - very expensive for what u can get in the market nowadays. Nowhere near..Version: 1.1

Good game. Two fatal flaws. Can't listen to outside audio while playing. It's 2016, this is a mobile game. Unacceptable. Limited content and no expansions or DLC or anything means there are only so many games per civ before its just not that interesting anymore. Otherwise a fun and polished game. I will pay for solid games and even pay for upgrades and expansions but not when the value isn't there and basic requirements aren't met and aren't fixed in a reasonable timeframe..Version: 1.3

August 8th, 2020Game crashes a lot . Used to be able to transfer unusable funds in ship building to science. Now crashes every time. Seems like no fix or updates coming..Version: 1.3

No Unlimited PlayAnnoying there is no unlimited play, just ending the game....Version: 1.1

Terrible. The only reason this game gets more than 1 star is that it could have potential if it were polished up. As it is, the gameplay is broken. From blatent AI cheating to most of the depth of the game being ignorable. But the biggest kicker: you can win on the highest diffuculty during the first turn of the game, before the AI has a chance to even act. This game was terribly rushed and it shows. It's good for 2 play throughs, one to learn how to play and a second to realize it's not worth playing..Version: 1.3

Massively overpriced and very basicVery disappointed with this game. I must admit the 'Sid Meier' tag drew me in as I thought his fame from Pirates etc. would mean this is a quality game. How wrong I was... the graphics are very basic and there is no tutorial to speak of. You're thrown into the game with a couple of hints and that's it. The combat system is not explained in detail and seems very arbitrary (stuff blows up ... but why exactly?). For the price you expect a fully fledged, top notch game. XCOM for example. This is very very poor. Don't get sucked in by 'Sid Meier's' name... this is NOT as good as Pirates by a long way..Version: 1.1

Decent game, minimal replay value.Does a good job of looking like its going to be truly exceptional, then ends. A really robust tbs game, and awesome for at least one playthrough. Not sure it's retained its appeal for a second playthrough, though..Version: 1.1

Abysmally slow game playIt's nice to look at but this is overall a very expensive and dull game. Each turn is so slow, so little seems to happen. Every battle is a replay of the previous one, the in game movement is just clunky and slow. It takes ages to get anywhere or do anything in the game before you have to end the turn because you have a fatigued crew. Honesty it's just too dull for $18.Version: 1.3

Too expensiveThere's not enough content or replay ability to justify the price tag on this game. It's a far cry from civilization or xcom..Version: 1.3

Confusing, and overpricedI love Sid Meier, I really do. However, this is not a great game. The UI is strange, the game is basic, yet manages to complicate where it doesn't need to, and the price is a joke. It is NOT worth the price. I will put this down to experience, but PLEASE take this advice. I bought this on the strength of Sid Meiers name and regret it..Version: 1.1

Concept great, execution mehEvery time i click on “advice” it freezes. Thanks for stealing my money.Version: 1.3

Buggy, repetitive; huge potential only partially realisedWill crash often on money changing screen. Crazy that destroyed ships can easily be repaired. Ship fighting is repetitive. No clear overview of your planets' statuses nor the progress of yourself versus your opponents - how can you see who is close to winning?.Version: 1.3

Keeps Crashing!I paid $15aud for this and it crashes every time I open it and try to continue my game..Version: 1.3

Waste of moneyThis game is incredibly simple, which is nice at first but it has no variety or strategic depth so is not good for multiple playthroughs. Save your money..Version: 1.3

Some great stuff, some not so much...Really could be great, but I echo what others say here. Unless I've somehow missed it, would be nice to be able to speed up the enemy turns. Omg it takes forever to wait for them to finish. I literally put the game down and come back in 5 min to wait for them to finish. Accidental touches not fun. Overall a good game, though, but needs those fixes!,, especially for this huge price!.Version: 1.1

Buy at your own riskNo way is this game worth the money, maybe a dollar or two no more, Graffics are regular, other games out there blast this out of the water. No tutorial what so ever,if you never played a game of this sort you will not have a clue of what to do and end up simply not playing. Worst sid meier game I have ever played BY ALOT whould even dare say this isnt a sid meier game they are just using hes name(its what it feels like) Actually could say this is probably the worst game I have ever purchased for a decent ammount of money,am actually considering asking for a refund because it is no were near to what they advertise. All these people giving excellent reviews are ither acomplices with developers, drunk,or have no idea of what a game of this gender should be like..Version: 1.1

Good but not good enoughI was expecting great things. It's a Sid Meier game and also costs £10. Where is the diplomacy? I can't make peace with anyone. All my ships are max level everything and battles are so easy. (The first time you play a game like this you shouldn't be walking it without any problems. ) I don't even need to upgrade my planets and I'm rolling in resources. Plus nobody attacks me. Very disappointed..Version: 1.3

Insanely FrustratingThis is perhaps the worst tactical game I have ever played. Movement and firing are just terrible. In a game about spaceship combat, you'd think the spaceship combat would be enjoyable. However, the awful UI and controls makes the combat impossible to enjoy, due to mistakenly shooting asteroids instead of your enemy. This game wouldn't be worth it if it were free. Spend your valuable time on something comparatively rewarding, like Farmville. At least Farmville doesn't make me want to gauge my eyes out..Version: 1.3

ExpensiveThe game is average and very repetitive. I'm a big fan of strategy games but this one isn't the best. It's basically a poor version of civilisation. Would not recommend to buy at this price. I feel robbed..Version: 1.1

Should have read the reviewsVery disappointed saw the Sid Meier's name and got the game they really fell short this time worst game to ever have that name. Won't make that mistake again looks like the Sid Meier's name is not what it use to be..Version: 1.3

Why Sid, why?I've played civilization since before the time computers were involved. Huge fan of most of them. Deep, interesting and fun. Loved "Pirates!" As well. This game is not replay able. I played 4 times all the way through. Now I "get" it and it doesn't need to be played again. There are few choices in customizing your ships and most of them just don't make tactical sense. Maybe the designers had a plan for real depth and it will come out in some big future update? I doubt it. Take off Sid's name and this is a $2 app like the hundreds released each year: forgettable. I paid $10, I genuinely hope the extra $8 went to Sid, he is a brilliant game designer, but this game is not.....Version: 1.3

Needs polishIt’s a good game but needs to be optimised for ipad, as others have said the interface is slow and clunky so the battles which are in every sense repetitive become painfully tiresome rather than enjoyable. Need an auto battle button for the small conflicts which otherwise take 20 plus minutes to play out and achieve very little towards your standings. The AI could use some work too, they either offer no resistance or steamroll you into oblivion. Some would argue that if you get it cheap it’s worth it and they are probably right but while the mechanics are so clunky I rate it’s long term playability zero..Version: 1.3

Okay, but could have been greatI wanted to love this game... It's exactly the type of game I like, but some design flaws really frustrate the experience. Starships offers light resource management and focuses all its energy on turn-based combat on a two-dimensional grid. You start with one and eventually have eight ships in a single fleet that you then fly from battle to battle. Therein lies the first problem: the battles become fairly monotonous. There's almost zero variety in tactical problems you face and each battle unfolds pretty much identically from the rest. The second design flaw is the worst: the victory conditions of the game are, according to posts in the Firaxis forums, meant to force the game to be quick. That strikes me as a complete sophistic cop-out: the designers couldn't figure out a way to make the game less monotonous, so they just built what equates to a fuse that ends the game. Often abruptly with no warning. The AI opponents, regardless of your settings, can win by a variety of means (like building a number of special "wonders"), even when you're making good headway with wiping them out. This type of game is about conquering a galaxy and savoring a victory built battle-by-battle over dozens of turns. The battles themselves aren't enough to really satisfy, and you can't rely on the slower-paced fun of taking over the entire map due to the victory conditions "dead man switch". All in all, a real dissappointment..Version: 1.2

Desperately needs an update.Crashes too often on modern devices (iOS 15.x up). Looks fantastic on 12.9 iPad Pro 2021 (M1) but is unplayable as a result of crashes (menu action - in game and options menu crashes on confirming choice/action)..Version: 1.3

No longer working; not maintainedThis used to be a fairly decent game but no longer supported - and freezes on virtually every screen if it loads at all..Version: 1.3

What a waste of money. The worst game ever.Menus and buttons are unresponsive. Half the time the game loads it display is off the iPad. You have to exit and reload it. Delay to select a menu item is horrible. This is a scam. I am surprised this app is even allowed on the App Store. I wish you could get refunds..Version: 1.3

DisappointedI too was sucked in by the Sid Meier name but this falls way short of previous games. It's very basic, lacks all the depth of games like civ, very quick to finish, poor tutorial. It lacks a map to see the whole galaxy which is very frustrating. Far too pricey for what it is. Don't buy.Version: 1.1

BrokenButtons stop working halfway through.Version: 1.1

Good but...- no multiplayer support - freeze in torpedo view on iPad 3 - zoom and move are an issue on the iPad - tutorial is lacking details. Rules not very clear - too expensive.Version: 1.1

Too simple, no challenge"Impossible" is actually very easy. So easy it isn't fun to play. Resource expansion gets out of control. Easy to exploit. Not enough ship customization. Wonder victory overpowered and illogical. Questing is like a light and simple version of stuff that happens in FTL. FTL's lowest difficulty is much more challenging than this game's highest difficulty. Graphics were nice, but still dated for an iPad game, space based games were here 2-3 years ago. I like the idea of simplicity in interface, but not simplicity in options..Version: 1.1

Do not trust 2K. If they do it to Bioshock they can do it to thisWhy has 2k deleted Bioshock from my AppStore account? You sell premium games at a premium price and I believe you have a responsibility to your paying customers. Having enjoyed your games in the past I am sad to say I will never buy games from you again, and I would urge other users to do the same..Version: 1.3

Another dumbed down title.I wonder whether human intelligence is gradually lowering and a generation are now incapable of playing a strategy game with any depth. Sid is one of my favourite developers, but can't fathom why he has created a game that only a clash of clans fan would appreciate. I would have preferred it if time had been spend updating Pirates which no longer works on IOS 8. At 10 quid this is shocking and has far less strategical input than the remake of x-com..Version: 1.2

Planet controls don’t work on iPadOS 16The controls to upgrade the planet no longer respond in iPadOS 16, the screen is totally inactive and only killing the app gets you out of it, without the warp nexus planet upgrade on each planet the game is effectively broken..Version: 1.3

DecentA fun game to kill time on a rainy day or a long trip. The combat is well executed if somewhat repetitive. The strategic map looks nice but strategic options are limited with only one fleet. Not really worth the price, as the gameplay is repetitive and limited. My major issue with the game is the lack of customization options for your ships. The description talks about "fully customizable ships" which is flat out untrue. Your options for customization are limited to the modules you can place on them, and they're all the same. By endgame all your ships look exactly the same and all their stats are maxed out. You can't even give them custom names. This is a major let down for a game entirely about your ships. It lacks a personal touch. A ship designer with templates would have added a lot to the experience. In the end this is a money grab plain and simple. If you haven't already bought this game, I'd recommend waiting for a price drop..Version: 1.1

Not worth the moneySimple and over to quickly even on harder settings. Keep your money and keep looking for a better game to spend it on..Version: 1.1

Random AI NonsenseWhere can I get a refund? Random and unfair AI victories on every attempt. One sequence played for a long time only for a previously unknown and unseen AI player to pop up and gain 70% map territory in ONE move?! Unnecessarily unfair AI victories are common, I thought this was going to be a nice turn based strategy game with resource management but it turns out the action sequences have little or no influence on the results, very disappointing. NOT recommended..Version: 1.2

So-So & expensive.So..... I pay a large amount of money for a game that stutters on my iPad Air 2, no tutorial and from what I played. There has been no skill needed to destroy the universe. For a 'strategy' game, I can't for the life of me find the 'strategy' bit..Version: 1.1

Freezes on iPadThis app freeze up every time I open a dialogue box. Wish I could get my money back. Used to play this game on my Mac, and all worked fine, but on my iPad it is useless!.Version: 1.3

Does not work on M1:(.Version: 1.3

NOONE TRUST THIS COMPANYEveryone should denounce 2k They have made so many bad decisions to screw over their fan base that now there is no turning back. There games for such a big company are broke, they gave us bioshock to take it off us within a year! After that I washed my hands of them, they are also trying to ruin Nintendo Switch as they have released the worst ports! Wwe2k18 is the worst bugged game on the switch. P,ease avoid anything they do, as it’s only to stay afloat, that is the reason they will not last.Version: 1.3

Badly needs updateLots of glitches. Badly needs update.Version: 1.3

It's no Civilisations or PiratesIs Sid Meiers running out of ideas? Starships is built with the strategy aspects imported from Civilsations but with the starship battles fought in a typical turn based hexagonal grid war game (not unlike Ace Combat). By simplifying these two Sid Meiers titles, shunning them together and then setting it in space, you get Starships. So is this a blend of best of both worlds? In short, No. It's more like taking two halves of two cars and welding them together to make a new car, but seemed to have hired a lousy welder to do it. Civilsations 2 has been my all time favorite game, the iPad port was also great and Pirates was amazing fun. So how comes Starships is so lousy. Whereas in Civilisations, I couldn't wait to develop my beloved nation so that I can expand my empire, I had no emotional connection with my galactic empire as the upgrades are dull and theres no real strategy to employ. Just battle, win, pay for upgrades and repeat. It won't be so bad if the starship battles were fun. It's the same each time, it's tedious to play and you do it a lot. Sid Meiers games of late have been really expensive. Starships is no exception, but on top of that it's stripped of any fun..Version: 1.1

Blurry pixels, shallow gameWhy is this expensive game so low resolution and blurry? Reminds me of the old pre-Retina iPad games. Hurts my eyes. Also too buggy. Can't even scroll the spaceopedia... Not worth the money this was released too early. Also very short, finished on hardest setting quickly..Version: 1.3

Pretty but very limitedThere are some good things about the game but ultimately there's just not enough of it. Too few: ship classes, mission types, planets, diplomatic / trade options, ways to win. It becomes a repetitive series of spending your resources and having a battle. Not worth the money..Version: 1.1

BugsI’m stuck in a loop. How do I get out? I guess I’m done. The loop won’t release me to play. Fun while it lasted, but Sid’s games will no longer be in my wheelhouse of choices..Version: 1.3

Bugs galoreYou cannot win this game, on the point of winning the AI will simply declare a victory for itself. I played 1 game where 3 AI opponents suddenly combined and were declared the winner based on victory conditions that should not apply. Get this sorted out quick! Get.Version: 1.2

Lacks depthCampaign game plays through in about one hour. There is some replayability to be had by trying out the different factions but even this gets old very quickly. This game is good but desperately needs some added depth to keep you playing or you forking out the asking price for about one or two hours of play time. Has massive potential so I hope the extra depth is added soon..Version: 1.1

DisappointingAs an original Civ fan, this is a $5 game at best, hard on the eyes, repetitive without the political aspects and intricacies that made Civ great. Caters to tippy tappy kiddies - who would quickly become bored themselves..Version: 1.3

UnplayableCould be good! Bought this before reading reviews. Stalled straight after opening clip. Read reviews and responses so restarted iPad. Seemed to work until wanted to interact with characters, then stall, stall, stall. Half hours play with 8 stalls & restarts Unplayable.Version: 1.3

BrokenScreen shows all askew.. buttons also don’t work. Using a brand new iPad. Vastly disappointed..Version: 1.3

Doesn’t work on iPad mini iOS 15Disappointing. This game is one of the things I was looking forward to being able to play on my new iPad mini, but it freezes a few clicks into the game, and doesn’t utilize the entire screen..Version: 1.3

PrometteurImpossible de jouer ,le jeu n as pas ete mis a jour et il crash en moins de 3 action. Vraiment dommage.Version: 1.3

Way too Pricey for what it isNot a bad game, comes across as quite lazy in parts (reused art, lack of diversity etc). Highly typical of 2K to charge an exorbitant amount so i shouldn't be surpised. Overall, probably one of the worst Sid Meier games ever produced but as there is so little in this genre, you're stuck with what you've got..Version: 1.1

Fun but limitingGood graphics and gameplay and fun for a short while. Not losing any ships after "blowing up" in a combat is a let down. Having one main group fleet instead of multiple fleets is boring. Having set winnable scenarios like the 51% population win takes the fun out of building an empire - just conquer their homeworld and the work is done for you - again too easy. Overall a very nice fun time waster for the bus ride - if you're good enough maybe even finish it by the end of your trip. Please make a FULL standalone game worthy of the franchise..Version: 1.1

Enjoyable but ultimately shallow space war sagaComing from the creator of the fantastic Civilisation games, this promised a lot, but ultimately it's a rather repetitive space saga. You'll undertake missions on behalf of different alien peoples, often involving space battles with pirates, with the aim of the planets joining your empire. You can also meet, interact with and declare war on other empires. If this sounds a lot like Civilisation that's because it does share some of the underlying principals of that game, but what this one lacks is the depth of Civ. The missions can become samey and after a while you realise there's actually not that much you can do. It's a fun diversion for a few hours but I don't think this has the replay value of Civ Rev or even Pirates..Version: 1.3

Good game but crashesThis game would be 5 stars but it crashes all the time. It is so frustrating. I have and iPad Air with the latest os and it still crashes. PLEASE FIX THIS GAME.Version: 1.3

Great game, too buggy!I personally think it's worth the price, or it would be if it weren't for the bugs. The most game-breaking being that often you select only a single victory type and it only applies to you, while the computer can still win with any victory type. The most prevalent is when you set it to require domination and ruling the entire galaxy and you max out all your tech, but when the ai maxes out just 3 of them they automatically win and end the game..Version: 1.1

Not finishedI just wrote a massive review and for some reason it didnt send. Im not writing it all again. Basically this game lags on my iPad 2 and crashed on the first day. I completed it in a few hours. It lacks customation options and strategic depth. Civilisation Revolution on my iPhone had similar problems, crashing and a lack of depth. At the very least the crashing and lagging should be fixed via an update, if this was a car I would take it back to get it fixed. This game could be really good, even great if the technical quality was better and the game had more strategic depth..Version: 1.3

Locks up on iPad ProUsed to enjoy it. Now can’t use it..Version: 1.3

App brokenLatest update broke the app…..please fix if you would. Thanks!.Version: 1.3

Essential game components are buggedUI is very unclear and things like selecting allowed victory types do not appear to work - at all..Version: 1.1

Crash galoreAnd the game isn't that great either.Version: 1.3

Crashes when saving/exitingThis used to be my favourite game, but is now unplayable as there is no way to save the game. Please can someone fix it as it still is a great strategy game ….if working!.Version: 1.3

Two dimensional outer-spaceVery two dimensional in concept with no depth whatsoever. We all know it's very tough to create galactic games but Starships is so flat that you have a hard time getting caught in the adventure. Simplified to boredom there is no real strategy. You get your resources every turn and spend them but it doesn't feel you're making important choices. Yeah, build new cities, sure, get more resources and a stronger fleet and go fight a predictable AI that simply uses more (predictable) tricks as you move higher in the difficulty ladder... Is that it? The Civ series, a much more complex game of course, had depth, strategy is multileveled, you think what to build next, evaluate, reevaluate, build your army, upgrade it, wait for the right moment to go to war... this one is just take that fleet and go after homeworlds when your numbers are equal or higher than the AI... I'd call it a tactical game and a pretty average one in that. The background "strategy" game is useless. The arenas are very deceiving and become boring very fast. Adding warpgates doesn't make them supercool... Learn to trick the AI and the game crumbles very fast. A big name behind the title makes it even worse. There are much more interesting and original tactical games on iPad written by kids and cost $0.99 - I say don't get fooled..Version: 1.1

MrSo repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive so repetitive I'll never ever gig Ol Sid a cent again after this steaming turd of a game!.Version: 1.3

RubbishAbsolute garbage, constantly crashes, mind numbing game play, you'll have more fun burning the $19 than paying for this dross!!.Version: 1.1

Average game, bit expensive, could be improvedI enjoyed this game, but think a number of things could be improved: 1) let us continue after the game is won to see what we can do. 2) all starships end up looking the same. Where's the variation? 3) very very very limited tech to upgrade, have a few more give some choice about what to go for. Likewise with planets. 4) get rid of the insta-win wonders; Stealth torpedoes? 5) just one fleet? And limited to only 8 starships! Why? 6) there could do with being a tutorial. It took me several games to even figure out what was going on.Version: 1.1

Good game but crashes a lotI really like the game but it crashes on my iPad mini so frequently I have almost given up. the cost was quite high and I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more to the game, so far the Ai at the lower levels wasn't much chop, hopefully the higher level is better..Version: 1.1

Welcome to the pastI played some of Sid's earliest games and enjoyed them. When was that? 1991? This game hasn't evolved much beyond those early games in terms of game play, design, or complexity. OK value at $2.00 but a rip off at $9.99..Version: 1.3

Does not work on the M1 iPad on iPadOS 16/17It was a fun little game while it was working but more recent hardware/iPadOS versions have broken the games menus and they have to date not been fixed. Until the game is fixed it should not even be available for people to purchase..Version: 1.3

Little substanceI made the mistake of assuming this would be something similar to Civ 5. Not even close. It's a polished game, but should be priced at $3 - $5. Very repetitive and way too simple. I feel mislead... the Sid Meier name and whopping $17 price tag led me to expect an in-depth, fleshed-out, absorbing experience. This is just a simple and not very fun combat game that happens to borrow the hex grid from Civ 5. It feels like a few drops of Sid Meier diluted in about 9 litres of watery meh..Version: 1.3

FreezeThe game has potential, but sometimes freezes half way and there is no way to finish the game other load an early game..Version: 1.3

Overpriced and shortAs many other people have pointed out, this game is highly overpriced, if compared to something like the XCOM games. Although the idea is interesting and graphics are quite good, you can finish it in couple of hours, depending on the difficulty. It certainly has replayabilty, but I still think the production value is relatively low, just hope they'll bring more DLCs for free in the future..Version: 1.1

BrokenNo longer works. Locks up..Version: 1.3

Kind of a letdownI echo some of the previous comments. There is lack of depth in all aspects of this game, including limited ship customization, only one fleet and ships cannot be destroyed, among others. Once or twice through and the game has become very repetitive. Also, please fix the victory conditions, no matter which I select, all seem to be active..Version: 1.1

No depthVery disappointing. A real lack of depth and complexity in the game leaves you wondering how this fits in the franchise. No tech tree or real strategy to speak of, and the combat feels clunky and limited. Not worth the cost until the level of gameplay improves. If you are looking for Civ 5 type of engagement, this simply is not the game..Version: 1.1

No more than OK..but expensiveI was lured in by Sid, usually his games are well thought out and I can spend months playing them. This game is an enjoyable play for a week or so and then it runs out of steam. The missions just repeat themselves, the AI often lacks the I part. If the price was considerably lower and I hadn't had such high expectations it would have 3 or 4 stars..Version: 1.1

Freezes!!!Fun, but it freezes all the time..Version: 1.3

Good gameplay but limited.. BuggyFor a premium app, I expect better. Overall.. Good game. The concepts are good.. Graphics are great. The main bug is that after playing for awhile it starts to lag so badly on my iPad mini that it is unplayable. I need to shut down the app... Kill it in my task manager and start it up again... From a gameplay perspective... It is too easy... I have tried on easy, moderate and hard and beat it without breaking a sweat. Take out the enemy home world (easy to do) and they are gone... I have read others complaining about torpedoes being overpowered... I don't have a problem with that.. They seem pretty good to me. And I don't really care about customizing my ship names and look.. In my opinion, Multi player is also critical for this game to be successful in the long term... But only if the home world problem is solved..Version: 1.2

UnplayableI can’t click on any menu items after I select a build action. The game is not currently playable for me. Don’t waste your time or money..Version: 1.3

WAY TOO SHORT!,What on earth where they thinking. Make the campaign longer. You don't get enough time to build a decent fleet and cities. ... Make it longer !!.Version: 1.3
