Twilight Struggle for Positive User Reviews

Wow!Brand new to this game, not a board game geek, but wow! So much depth and feel to the game that captures the Cold War period. Haven't played online yet, still trying to tackle the AI...worth the price...bravo!!!.Version: 1.0.42

Absolutely brilliant! The world's best modern strategy boardgame gets a fantastic iPad version! Gorgeous to look at, the complexity of the boardgame has been translated cleanly and clearly onto the iPad screen. That's quite an accomplishment, because there's a lot of game information that must be presented and kept track of. But the designers have done a great job of adapting the original game to the screen. And, the sound effects - snippets of historical speeches, martial music, etc. - add greatly to the theme. Love it!.Version: 1.0.4

Best onlineTwilight Struggle and Playdek are a great marriage: see the developer's work with board game ports such as Agricola. That this app exists could fairly be considered a big deal. Learning the game on iOS is feasible given the adequate AI, but the true action lies in challenging friendly but serious gamers via async online..Version: 1.1.1

Looks great .. tutorial keeps crashingTS is a wonderful boardgame. I haven't played it in a couple years so I'm looking at the Tutorial. The Tutorial is really well done, but you have to do it in one sitting -- there's no way to save the Tutorial in progress -- I've started it 4 times and haven't made it thru yet, twice because it crashed midstream and so I had to start it all over again. Very tedious. I hope to complete the Tutorial some day..Version: 1.0.5

Great game with only minor bugsI cannot still understand why the prices of the apps change only the signs from $ to £ without conversion, which makes games come at a steeper price than their American equivalent. The game is still great. Played it almost every day since download a few weeks ago. Tha AI could be a bit smarter, however if it would pose a serious problem just play against real people. The few bugs are just little annoying. E.g. The Non alignment movement played by the AI tends to pick any country it likes even in Europe with no own influence, while on my turn I struggle to find any country at all. Hope they willmfix this. Thumbs up anyway, and this promo card can be turned off, though the £3.99 was way too high. You can buy complete games for that price!.Version: 1.1.1

Poor AIThe patch fixes the initial major issues. While the AI is still weak, it does put up a fight. Multiplayer is excellent. Extremely good title..Version: 1.0.4

Fantastic implementation of a complex board gameI love playing Twilight Struggle with my friend and now we can play it remotely. The pacing and workflow of all the cards is amazing. I can't wait to play more games. If you are a Twilight Struggle fan, or just love strategy games, I encourage you to buy this game and get your friends to buy it so you can play this historically rich and intellectually satisfying game..Version: 1.1.1

Love the game, but…I love the actual board game and the iPad version is pretty good but there are a LOT of very annoying bugs and glitches. Particularly around VP points not being calculated for the Player (against AI anyway) at the end of each round. ie no military points are being added when military influence is used. The AI points get added though. Also, with quite a few cards influence markers are not assigned to countries when they are earned through events..Version: 1.4.2

Great appAmazing online game.Version: 1.4.6

FantasticPlaying on ipad air 2. No problems after one play. I think its well done adaptation of a top tier boardgame. Reviewers saying its "boring" or such didnt know what they were getting into and are probably better suited to monopoly rather than a historical highly strategic boardgame simulation. Dont purchase until you go to boardgamegeek first to get an idea of what you are buying here. There is a lot to this game. Well done..Version: 1.0.4

Great gameGreat game. Tutorial and computer controlled resolution of cards and events makes the game easy to learn. Please fix pre game influence. Slider works, but the player doesn't actually get the extra influence at the start of the game. AI easy to beat without ability to give handicap to it..Version: 1.1.1

Great game and UIJust updated today and things are like playing in slow motion.Version: 1.4.0

Great game. Needs new updateThis is a fantastic game. However, the latest update seems to have caused more problems than it fixed. The victory point animation doesn’t work correctly, displaying the wrong or no value. The new black text on red and blue background to show what cards have been played is low contrast and harder to read than the previous white text. Would be awesome if you could add a highest and lowest rating achieved to users profiles..Version: 1.4.4

Great game but...Great game, love playing my friends on the Internet, but please give an option to turn off the email turn notifications. It so annoying getting so much spam..Version: 1.0.5

Great implementation of a great board gameAI is useful for learning, but can soon be beaten. Lots of opportunities for on line play against real opponents. Very good interface, thematic music, like the bidding system, once I googled how it worked..Version: 1.4.0

Great game, too slowCan we make the computer much faster?.Version: 1.4.6

Great for playing onlineClassic board game. They did a great job with all the rules and letting you undo things mid turn. Interface is good. Supports cross-play with Steam. Only problem is you have to reload the game if you switch away which can slow it down if you are multitasking..Version: 1.1.3

Love it, now fix it! :-)As stated numerous times already, great game, great implementation (though AI could use a boost...), as soon as they fix the "loss by held scoring card" bug (which never happened in the OS X version). Contrary to many others, I have not experienced any crashes (iPad Pro). I love that you can now play an offline player vs player game, well done! Implement that on the Mac/Steam version too, please!.Version: 1.0.3

Solid Strategy GameTough to get into but really rewarding once you figure it out.Version: 1.0.42

Superb rendition of a great board gameI love the board game. It is rare to capture the fluid play and clever dynamics so successfully in a computer version of a board game, but this does it. If you have never played the board game, then just have some patience and keep going - it gets better and better. If you know the game, you will not be disappointed. A coupe, of times I’ve thought there was a glitch, but it’s been because there’s a card in play that requires a certain response. Very occasionally, the AI does something that feels a little random. But its usefully when there’s an impossible combination for it to try and play successfully. That’s part of the game - forcing your opponent to play the card that will lose them the game. Seeing it coming is part of the fun!.Version: 1.1.3

Good but buggyGood version of the board game. The AI plays a halfway decent positional strategy but is quite lax about defcon control and has a tendency to unforced defcon suicide. The real issue is offline play. At least on the iPad the app is very unstable without a WiFi connection crashing on opening 9 times out of 10 and rarely making it through the early war without a fatal crash even if it does load..Version: 1.1.3

Difficult gameThis is a solid game for hardcore board gamers. My main complaint, the dice seem a little rigged; I had two games in row were every dice roll failed. If you’re looking for a challenge this game is for you. Also the in app purchases don’t offer much to the game and are overpriced. It is a good game with slick interface, it needs lots of background work..Version: 1.1.3

Great game and interface...one major bugI really like this game, the mechanics and the interface. They have done a great job with the design. However, there seems to be one significant bug. I have played the game seven times today and on three of those occasions the computer has lost the game by holding a scoring card at the end of around. This causes an automatic loss. I would think the game logic would require the computer to unload its scoring cards before the end of the round. Otherwise it is a great implementation of the game..Version: 1.0.3

Great Game should be 5 Stars but...This is an amazing game. It is a faithful reproduction of the board game with a good AI. I haven't had the crashing problem that others report but there is one frustrating bug. Periodically, the AI will go to DefCon1, start a nuclear war which is an automatic loss but instead it claims a Victory! The AI is tough to beat but I can win about half the time now with carefull play not counting the weird losses to the the DefCon bug. Other than this, highly recommended..Version: 1.0.42

Map fixed, thank youYes a recent update broke the map movement, but the most recent update fixed it. Thank you devs. Tip for other players if this ever happens again: you can tap on the 3 region buttons on the lower left and right sides of your screen to zoom to those regions. I.e. “Eu,” “M,” and “As”.Version: 1.4.2

How hard can it be?There are multiple complaints (starting from June) on the net about the tutorial crash in Lebanon. There's even a bug"fix". But, alas, it crashes whenever I click on Lebanon, when prompted by the tutorial. I've even updated ios to the 10.2, to no avail!.Version: 1.1.0

Great game, great appA great port for a great game. The sound files and quotes really add to the flavor and feel. The AI is good enough that you will become a good player before you beat it regularly. Even once you are better than the AI it is good enough that it will provide you a good game and can even beat you with some poor card draws on your part. Add to the fact that you can play a game in a much shorter time than over the board and you have an app that will provide you hours of enjoyment and teach you this fascinating game..Version: 1.1.1

Best Cold War game availableThis game is so addictive. I own the board game but struggle to get opponents so this is a godsend. I’ve encountered no bugs at all. Great game and a great port to iOS..Version: 1.1.3

Fantastic adaption on the superb board game! This app has digitized the original board game wonderfully! To the point that I think I’d prefer to play the digital version over the physical version . That’s saying something! The app works flawlessly and never crashes (which unfortunately happens all too often on many game apps). I HIGHLY recommend the game. You will not regret it! 10/10!.Version: 1.4.2

Reasonable implementation of a great board gamePlaydek has done a good job implementing this game. There are a few polishing issues that hopefully they will take a look at someday which would improve the overall quality and fun. Overall if you like the board game, this app does not disappoint. The only outright bug I have encountered in 30 + plays is that in one game USSR was unable to remove influence for CMC, and when they tried it led to continuous "Bing" noises forcing an app restart. Despite Beta comments they have stuck with a clock mechanic that is poorly suited for this style of game. It should be a chess style clock with x total minutes + y sec per move. They just have x total min. This somewhat spoils lengthy games every now and then for both players and has led to all kinds of game length choices that could be simplified to 2 or 3 selections total. I just got used to it and play faster than my opponents anyways, but it is not a good design choice. There is a single player AI but it is really only good for learning. As an experienced player, the AI has not been a challenge to beat. They could also explain the bidding UI better..Version: 1.0.5

Good gameI feel the ratings for this game are not very balanced. It’s a good game, good user interface for a busy map, no real bugs so far. The ai take 5 to 10 seconds to play on my iPad, which is not a problem given the complexity of the strategy you need to think about - it’s actually a relief to not be pressured all the time. The game itself is brilliant - good theme, deep strategy and plenty to think about. There seems to be plenty of online players if the Ai is not what you want. There’s a couple of game variants - late game allows you to have a shorter game. There is only one ai but there is a handicap system to make it harder or easier. There is a plans and play mode. No colour blind mode though - battleground countries are red and they don’t stand out for me. Could do with some help there. Other than great app and game..Version: 1.4.2

Please fix the AII love this game but it is so annoying when the AI plays a defcon suicide move at the end of a turn. It happened to me twice in a row in the middle of good balanced games..Version: 1.1.3

Should be titled: Twilight Entrapment.Fairly good port of a very good board game, however, the game will annoyingly allow you to commit an “own goal” by starting Nuclear War (and losing in the process). As accurate as this may be, this would never happen in a table top situation. Imagine Chess without the ‘Check’ rule and you get the idea. The game even has an undo feature, but not when you act against DEFCON 2. This can make a very frustrating experience after investing so much time and effort for the game to end abruptly. Hopefully this will get fixed in an update..Version: 1.1.1

Complicated strategyNever played before but since was relatively cheap to ry through the App Store as opposed to the real board game I took a flyer. The tutorial is well made. Certainly demonstrates the complexity of the game. Will need several trials to understand and remember but seems well made. I can see why if you enjoy strategic back and forth no clear winner to start why this a worthy challenge. Since no glitches thus far I'll give a 5 star. Right up there with pandemic, settlers and small world 2 on my pad..Version: 1.1.3

Sept 2020 removed swipe to move mapHello. Just installed the Sept 2020 update. I am now unable to move map by swiping the screen. Could you please restore this feature? Thanks..Version: 1.4.0

Great transfer of board game to iPadYes the AI can take a while to make a move, but in my experience only when it's removing influence from countries and the board is full of pieces. Def con suicide is possible and is part of the real game, none of this friendly business when you play with a mate who accidentally plays the Olympic Games card. I've not had the AI lose on purpose and have played 30+ games. Well done on the transfer guys!.Version: 1.0.5

Almost perfectExcellent play experience and smart AI. Crashes occasionally on iPad mini 1, but has auto save, and I can't really complain about that. AI also thinks a bit slowly but may also be because my old device..Version: 1.0.5

BugIt is too unstable, easy to return to desk.Version: 1.4.6

An amazing gameThis is an excellent electronic adaptation of one of the best board games of all time..Version: 1.4.1

Great Game, good supportThe classic board game, for iPad. Complete with cross platform support! Bugs fixed quickly and new turn 0 is promising. AI makes questionable plays sometimes, so get online asap. Plenty of people are willing to help a newer player and discuss strategy after the turn. You can play a quick 45 min game or a 45-day game! With the game selling for $50+ irl, the digital edition is well worth it.Version: 1.1.1

Now it's the app I wantedReal quick review: Since they addressed the bugs the game plays great for me. I really enjoy how it looks, and even like playing the AI. If you have the physical board game, this is a good way to stay fresh and try out strategies you normally wouldn't attempt in person. If you don't have the board game yet, this is obviously an excellent way to familiarize yourself with it..Version: 1.1.1

EnjoyingFind this a 1st rate app. Quick update to repair problems. (I had no crashes or AI suicides with point cards). As I have never played the game the tutorial was very helpful and there are also assistance on line including a free 425 page strategy guide. A game that takes actual thinking and not dependent on reflex speed. The first "5" I have given any game and that goes back to the 3GS..Version: 1.0.4

Good implementationGood adaptation of the board game. AI, however, is terrible. AI Russians couping Philippines on 1st Action Round of the game with the China Card?!? No one would do that. India-Pakistan War when opponent has no influence in either?!? No one would do that either, unless lack of military ops would lose the game..Version: 1.4.2
