Ascension: Deckbuilding Game for Positive User Reviews

Fantastic! This is a great adaptation of one of the better examples of the recent swathe of deck building games (DBGs) that have been released (as physical boxed games). A great tutorial leads you in to the basics of the game, but like all the best games Ascension is easy to grasp, but difficult to master. The excellent artwork and UI (including great sound effects) make this a very satisfying game to play, and the fact that games can be over in 10 minutes means it is very pick up and play, very "one more go". Online multiplayer also works very well too. I have taken a star off because the game could benefit from some achievements to collect and an online leader board or ranking system to increase the longevity of the game in single player and online play, respectively. In the future I hope the developers will add some expansions as downloadable extras. This has gone straight in to my favourite iOS board game adaptations along with Ra, Carcassone and Small World. It might even persuade me to pick up the physical card copy at some point, the game is that good..Version: 1.0.1

Fun gameCool game. I find Rise of Vigil to be over the top though. I was able to repeatedly take successive turns and get well over 1,000 points..Version: 1.9.0

Good Fun, AddictiveInteresting game and good interface makes for a fun experience. Please please update to retina graphics and the game will be perfect..Version: 1.1.2

Brilliant computerised remakeCurrently having online issues and failing to connect, but I expect them to fix that very shortly. Otherwise it's a great game.Version: 1.6.1

AscensionThe best card game ever, a little tricky to learn but once you know it it's awesome. I've had this game for two years now and when I get bored with other games or finish them I always go back to this one. A must have!!!!!!.Version: 1.5.0

AscensionI have a friend who has the ascension physical card game he ya rise of vigil and the darkness one which I didn’t even find out where expansions until I started playing this game. It is really good I think the aim could be programmed a little bit better they seem to only go for the best value per turn in most cases without thinking of the long run. For example if they have four tubes and the board is full of heroes to buy and no monsters to kill they will get 2 heavy infantries instead of a mystic because it is more short term value which can lead to them punching the cultist later in the game up to seven times I got it to once. There is a lot of dlc for this game but it is literally the physical releases of the ascension game as well and those are way more expensive per pack so it is more worth it here plus this game was just made for a computer or phone setting with a lot of the effects going off in the background where you don’t have to keep track of them and possibly forget like in the physical version..Version: 2.2.1

Great game, few flawsThe latest update is a major overhaul of the UI. Some of it I like. The animations even on the fast setting are too slow and I find myself having to wait for it often. The UI is just generally slower. Some of the spots you drag cards to are smaller and hard to hit like the cloud on the dream expansion and the void. It seems you can drag everything to the big main play area for defeating monsters, and acquiring cards which helps so It’s mostly just discarding and choosing dream cards that is harder. I’ve not been playing this new version enough to know if the ai still slows on some card combos. Though my credentials are saved I still have to click login to play online. The update did clear out a stuck offline game I had and also fixed the inability to play online over mobile data on some carriers bug. —- was and I still feel this way — I've been loving this longer than any other game I've installed. Each new pack changes things enough to keep giving it interesting new twists and keep the replay value high. Thanks for a great game!!.Version: 1.14.1

Huge replay potentialThis is the one game I keep playing on the iPad. The potential for strategic play against real people is unmatched on the app store, once you get your head around how the various card sets and capabilities offset or complement each other. Although I've enjoyed quite a bit of gaming over the years I had no familiarity with these kinds of card games before a friend recommended Ascension. Now I am completely converted..Version: 1.1.2

Ultimate time killerI've probably sunk hundreds of hours into this game over the years I've played it, it's incredibly easy to pick up and play a round when commuting or need to keep yourself occupied for a few minutes.Version: 1.13.1

Great game, detracted by some nigglesThe base game and expansions in themselves are really good and have provided me with the most time in an app so far. I have played mostly pass and play with my partner with some solo play. I notice disappearing cards occasionally which is an annoyance. The biggest annoyance is having to rewatch the hand played when it’s passed over, no need for it, just set it as an option if need be. Really slows the game down. The later expansions are not as interesting, tried to add mechanics to the game, and for me they just make it overly complicated. A final nag is on the 60 star limit on online games. Otherwise well worth playing..Version: 2.2.0

Great time fillerI got into Ascension after my friend introduced me to it. This app does a good job showing how the game works and is very addictive. I would suggest selling more bundles so that it is easier for people to get into..Version: 2.0.1

About timeThe card game I have been waiting for. Two thumbs up!.Version: 1.3.1

Very UnderratedVery relaxing and methodical gameplay for a card game. If you like roguelike deck-builders welcome to one of the big inspirations for the genre. Also—blissfully— there’s no ‘gamification’ systems added to this game at all. No progression systems, lootboxes, daily logins, battlepasses, etc etc. Just get the app, and buy expansions if you want more; you get all the cards immediately. Wonderful..Version: 2.4.16

Great game stillThis is still a great game despite all the griping about the artwork change, which is subjective in my opinion. I have not had connectivity issues and recent update fixed some of the broken artwork displays. However I have a gripe about the UI for new phones, like iPhone X. The notch covers part of the screen. If you hold the bottom of the phone in your right hand, my default preferred way to hold in landscape, the notch covers the dreamscape tab. This is a big problem in usability. A workaround is to flip the phone the other way, which gives access to all buttons, but the notch still covers part of the display, E.g. this covers the text for rule book. Also playing cards from the bottom frequently gets interpreted as activating home button, which is very annoying. Other games implemented a detection so you have to pull up twice before you are sent home. Now that this app is obviously under active development again, I would expect usability issues like these to be fixed. Thank you..Version: 2.1.0

After all this timeI have been playing this game for years (before ANY expansions) and it still holds up. Glad to see that an update comes out every now and again. I have bought all expansions and card bundles without question. I will always have this game on any device I own. Thank you..Version: 2.0.1

Fantastic gameOnline multiplayer is great and you can always find a game. Highly recommend, and hope they release another expansion..Version: 1.2.2

Nothing but up.Always getting better, it would be nice to have a higher max honour for each game but that being my biggest complaint shows how good this game is..Version: 1.11.2

Brilliant deck-building gameI love dominion and hero wars and star realms so I was very excited to check this similar card game out-it’s awesome! The gameplay is just what I wanted in a deck builder but with so many unique and interesting little twists which make for a really well balanced and enjoyable experience each game. Even offline, the repeat play value is very high since there are sooooo many cards and so much variance. I like the way all cards have a point value which is totalled at the end and added to ur score, it means that a player can’t just hone down their deck cos u will lose on points, it means each turn what u purchase must be considered for end game as well as during the game itself. The art is just incredible and totally unique. Fantastic! I would like to see more customisation of what cards I can include in off line games, so I can go into an expansion and cherry pick a few to not put in as I do choose - that would be so nice please! Well done on a great creation 😊.Version: 2.2.1

Game is greatOnly sad thing is that there aren't many people to play online. Other than that, the game is awesome..Version: 1.2.2

It got fixed!!!They gave me back my expansions! The new layout is still less intuitive, and I wish we had an option to switch back, but I’m super grateful. Thank you ascension!.Version: 1.14.3

Not without issues, but worth it.This is the first application that’s left a significant enough impression on me to leave a review. It’s not without faults, the game can eat through your battery fairly quickly, it’s laggy and not without bugs, but there hasn’t been another game that I’ve felt is worth the money I’ve put into it. The expansions add a fair amount of content and even though it wouldn’t be a game for everyone I don’t think there’s another game that I’ve found where I would consistently play and enjoy it as much as this. I find it relaxing trying to get a perfect solo game in against a CPU and getting just the right cards to get an “infinite turn” that eventually crashes the app and needing to start over again. If they can fix some of the more glaring issues and optimize it to run a bit better I’m sure there will be plenty more people who would like this game as much as I do. (Please return the capacity to buy “take another turn” cards from the void in offline though).Version: 2.2.0

Great card gameAs a fan of card games for years this was right up my street. Plays out well and it's quite satisfying to decide how to approach the game early on and see how that shapes your endgame. Highly recommend to anyone interested in card and/or strategy games :) Edit: The expansion has added even more to this game, definitely one of the best games on the store and easily my most played lately. I look forwards to further expansions. 2nd Edit: The newest expansion has added even more, well worth the wait even though it was a long one this time..Version: 1.3.1

AddictiveReally entertaining. It's different from any strategy card games and the uniqueness of the game is quite enjoyable. No problems for me. Good job..Version: 1.0

Best in show! The quintessential board game app..Version: 1.14.1

Great gameLove it, great game when u first get your head around all the little tricks, I would like more points because I find just as u get a good card set the game is over and there is no real big scoring, more cards!.Version: 1.1.2

Great gameLove the game, it’s a great intro to deck builders - not that I know many others but I understand how it works albeit basically. Really do not like the art update/direction. All that said, game wise it’s great, I’m not so keen on the feel of the app..Version: 1.14.2

Excellent game - good mobile adaptionAscension has given many hours of play to me and is highly addictive and fun. The mobile app is a great adaption of the original card game and presents it well in both style and ease of playability..Version: 1.6.1

Very goodAmazing game, been playing it for more than 3 years and I’m still not bored, far from it. Some times the cpu is too slow to play but nevertheless still one of the best games I’ve played, please keep up the updates.Version: 1.13.1

No Signs of Life from DevelopersI think the AI component is what really makes this app shine. It uses so little battery, and while the occasional bug or lag comes up, the developers have been very good about doing their best to release fixes in a timely fashion. It's just a fun, casual game, and a great way to spend 15 minutes on a quick, easy activity! All that said, it has been an awfully long time since I first wrote this review, and nothing new has come to this game since. The physical game and computer version see updates far more quickly. I'm disappointed that such a beautifully simplistic game doesn't receive the love it deserves anymore..Version: 1.13.1

Great gameGreat game, very addictive.Version: 1.6.1

Now unplayable.Edit: with the new update and new iOS, thankfully... this game is back to fun!! Amending my rating to four stars because there are still a few bugs, but overall, my go to game is back! Thank you! This used to be my “go to” game when I had some downtime. Now, it’s a mess. It crashes at least once on startup. The animations are sluggish and slow the game down (especially when you miss that discard pile!). Little bugs like when you kill a cultist with a Pathwarden, the cultist will disappear. The only way to get it back is to go to the lobby and restart your game. These are just a few of the issues this new version has. Like I said, it used to be a solid app, now it’s frustrating and not worth the effort..Version: 2.0.1

Very good! Finally a proper CCG-like game. Excellent interface, in-depth game play, love it. If only MTG would get their act together and do a proper app for iPad. One thing needed...some sort of stats for solo play won/loss ratio would be nice. Well done, worth the investment.Version: 1.0

Very good but not perfect. This is a quality card game. It looks, sounds, moves and plays very well. There are additional expansion sets available for purchase but do not let that put you off. This is not a licence for the developers to empty your pockets. In usual real-world card-games you have to shell out mountains of money buying blister-packs only to discover they are all duplicates of cards you already have. This game is different. Each expansion brings a new game dynamic with it - an increase in the complexity of the game. All new cards are included in the purchase. Also, there is no pressure from the developers to buy any of these expansions and the basic game plays wel in isolation. However, there is a gameplay issue that really starts to become apparent as you increase in your proficiency. The central deck from which all new cards are drawn does not seem to be properly shuffled at the beginning of the game. There are three types of cards in this deck and in order for the game to run smoothly they need to be randomised. They never are. There is always an excess of one type of cards (the Monsters suite) at the beginning of the game, and then very few through the rest of the deck. This can really ruin the flow of play. Still, a highly recommended game from someone who also loved "Galaxy on Fire II" and "Discovering Mars". FYI. RS.Version: 1.2

Love this game!Ascension really is a GREAT game! Love everything about it, and have been playing for years! Have many of the physical games and expansion packs! The app however could be improved, the bar at the bottom when sliding up to pay cards sometimes makes me exit the game and then I have to watch everyone’s play over again! Very touchy if you are playing on an iPhone and not an iPad. Also if you are playing online with friends there is no option to up the honor like there is when you play w the computer. 60 honor game are just too short and I wish they would implement allowing to up the honor to 120 when playing two player with friends. Other than that five star game, just tiny improvement to gameplay in app!.Version: 2.3.0

Replay for 4+ yearsAll time single player strategy card game, have played for over 4 years, replay value is immense and I love all the expansions and the ai player can be quite challenging..Version: 2.2.1

Bugs fixedAfter feedback they worked to fix the bugs I had been experiencing and now I can play the game again!! There is still a slight bug that makes online games crash but I believe this will be fixed in a timely manner. Great game..Version: 1.14.4

Ascension - Mostly GreatI love this game. It’s simple, easy, and I enjoy my time playing it. The app was great except for when it would crash for having too large a combo, but maybe there’s no way around that for a phone app. There was an update within the past couple months that makes it almost as slow as it would get when I had a large combo with the old version. The artwork update is super cool, and I noticed the background shimmers now, but the overall performance is really awful. Everything takes longer now, there’s a much smaller range for drag-n-drop into the deck piles (and if you screw up then the card slowly crawls across the screen back to where it started when you initially grab it), constructs glitch in the middle of the screen when you have to destroy them and become unusable, and the game crashes now even when I have a mediocre combo. I wouldn’t be leaving that if I hadn’t paid for all of the expansions and what not. I love this game and hope to see it improve! Cheers.Version: 1.14.4

Pretty good no brain gameThe game is pretty good and a lot of enjoyment can be found in it. That being said it has a few problems. Firstly the online doesnt even exist nobody plays this game online so be ready to either do couch co-op or just play against the ai. The game also puts a lot of its content behind paywalls that being said i have enjoyed the expansions and how poorly implemented they are. As an example of how badly implemented this game is you can turn on 2 expansions and within 5 turns have beaten any opponent due to several ways that you can gain infinite turns without using glitches. The game also has a few bugs. Most of the ones that i have found are related to playing more than 100 cards in a turn. There are also a few card interactions that need to be hammered out. All that being said it is a good looking game that works well for wasting time. I particularly enjoy the games esthetic and the fact that you can break this game and then revel in the games lack of balance. Its kind of like the might and magic games, cosy as hell and extremely unbalanced. Also if you are turned off by the aforementioned pay wall its worth noting that the base deck is perfectly fine on its own. If you want to buy expansions these are the ones i would recommend: return of the fallen, dreamscape, promo pack 3, 4, and 5. I would not recommend buying dawn of champions. The other expansions range from ok to hot garbage..Version: 2.0.1

Love StoneBlade stuffGreat game, but they changed something that makes me switch to another app constantly when I swipe certain ways. That can be incredibly frustrating, considering it completely kicks you out of the game and you have to sign back in. Wish it would go right back to the game. I feel like it used to be better. I don’t recall this much anger about the app when I used to play years ago. Sometimes it’s a lengthy process to find a game, as the player base has dwindled. I’m sure the bugs, that came with whatever update was responsible for this, dried it up even more. Would be much better if Honor Pool could be increased for online games. The option is there for offline games, so it shouldn’t be asking for too much. For that reason, the physical copy is much better. The game just starts getting really interesting in the last few rounds. If you are just starting, I suggest not joining or creating any “10-minute” games. They can be frustrating, and not nearly as fun. Most of the ones I play are in the 3+ day range. That gives you plenty of time for other things. The game could be played in 10 minutes, if you are both online. But, it gives you both room to breathe. Buy the physical copies of the game. I highly suggest them. The app is nice because it handles the shuffling and the calculations, but the lack of game options cripples it. In my opinion. Which this is..Version: 2.2.1

99% greatThe game itself is very intuitive once you get the hang of it but the way the tutorial is setup doesn't show you the full way to play the game, you do however get the hang of it after two to three times of play. The main gameplay however is really flushed out and well rounded, but there is a small issue with the getting one deck and paying for the rest (and they're all mostly reasonable in price so not a big issue) which is after four to five times of playing the first deck it kinda becomes uninteresting. All in all it's a good game and worth giving a shot👍🏼..Version: 1.13.1

Best game on iPadThis is easily my favorite game on iPad with countless hours wasted playing. Since Storm of Souls was released its only gotten better. If you love MTG or Dominion, pick this up now! Hell, if you like Card Games pick this up now. Can't wait for the new sets to come in future. Only additional thing I would like is the 3rd AI difficultly, it even looks like it's meant to be there?.Version: 1.2

Played the tabletop versionLoved the table top version. Quick snag on a bug I noticed when you have hedron link device in play and reclamax you should in theory be able to grab any construct from the void, as hedron link treats all constructs as mecha..Version: 1.13.1

Best magic the gathering like game in storeNeed more online players though :).Version: 1.2

LOVE IT, always a game to playFirst things first I absolutely love this game. I have bought every expansion and the promo packs. What’s great about there in app purchases is that they are very affordable the most expensive one I believe is $4.99 the least expensive is $.99 or $1.99. The endgame purchasing is only if you want to play with different cards. This game never pushes their in app purchases. And for a free game it doesn’t have any ads. I have read a lot of reviews stating that there aren’t enough people playing this game so therefore not worth downloading. Who let me tell you it is changed I can always find a game online I have found 4 to 5 new friends that we continuously play so that there’s always a game going on and I have never played against the AI since I downloaded this game 5 months ago. If you enjoyed Deck-building games this is a must have!!!!.Version: 2.1.2

Great game. Love all the expansions!Fun game, interesting mechanics. For fans of Hearthstone, Magic, Gwent this is a fun addition. Loved the expansions, please send more!.Version: 2.1.1

Worth it! I Promise! My wife bought me the physical Acension game this past Christmas. We played it together and I loved it. Reminded me a lot of D.C., but with their own twist. I came across the app version of Acension while at work (a boring day) and decided to download it. Within a day of playing this awesome game/app, I bought all the expansions and everything for 20 bucks! Now I’m playing this non-stop! I love it. The only thing that I wish they would change or add feature wise, is the ability to increase the “honor” pool past 240. I feel like it really limits your time to enjoy the combinations of playing different expansions and getting through all the cards. If possible, make the honor pool less restrictive so that way players really have a chance to build a crazy deck when playing several expansions at once. One final note! I’m looking forward to other Ascension expansions being added to the app. Keep up the awesome work!.Version: 2.4.10

ExceptionalDon't hesitate, this is an excellent app! Extremely well polished, I have encountered zero bugs. The art direction is beautiful and the gameplay is well balanced. The game allows robust a-synchronous multiplayer which works flawlessly. Well worth the low price. My only complaint is that, as far as I can tell, there is no way of chatting to your opponents in game. Hope this feature can be implemented soon!.Version: 1.0

**updated** May 23rd update makes this unplayable****Update June 26th********* The developers have fixed the worst bugs introduced with the May 23rd update. I’m getting used to the newer aesthetics, but it’s still more susceptible to internet lag than the older version, and the loading screens are still longer. I enjoy the game itself enough to keep playing, and hope the developers keep improving it. ******************************** The update that went out May 23rd makes this app almost unusable. Games take too long to load, and game play is laggy. The cards are too big, and the deck and discard piles are too small - it makes it difficult to drag cards to your deck or discard pile. It uses more battery life than before. This used to be one of the few games I could play all day without draining my battery, but not anymore. Nothing about this update is an improvement. It makes me sad, because I loved this game, and spent quite a bit of money on it. Hopefully they will fix the issues soon....Version: 1.14.3

Excellent but needs a medium levelPlayed this for the first time a few days ago and beautifully designed and works well on iPad. However the easy level is very easy and the hard level is very very strong. Would love a medium level like other deck builder games have as otherwise too strong for me. Nigel Mackinnon.Version: 2.4.16

Excellent game and appPlayed this game for years in real life and on iOS. Excellent app, play this game all the time!.Version: 2.2.0

Very good gameFun as with an interesting set up just want more different cards but u have to pay.Version: 1.1.2

Great async multiplayer deck building gameI’ve been playing This for years and it’s a lot of fun and just works really well for async multiplayer gaming. It’s quick to load up and take your turn and the notifications always seem to work. Loads of expansions to keep the game fresh. There is room for improvement, but the fact I’m still regularly playing multiplayer games years after I first purchased it makes it a 5 star game for me..Version: 2.2.1

Absolutely amazing... Just one qualm. This card game has everything and the expansion decks are all different challenges that requires you to constantly rethink your strategy. Every game will be different. The replayability is enormous. I've bought all of the expansion decks and the promo decks as well and it has kept me playing for hours. My only qualm is the limited honor points system. While essentially a way to let the game build in intensity and expectancy with an end in sight, I find the points to be too low. Often, I find that the game is just starting to warm up and then it ends abruptly. It's quite frustrating when you've just overtaken the points leader. But I find the game ends too early even though I boost the points to the max. Technically, you can get more points than the system offer (once I got up to 900+ points) but that was pure chance and refined strategy. At that point, I knew the game was going to end after my turn. My suggestion would be to increase the max points to 500 (can be toggled by 100), that would increase my willingness to play more in-depth. I still have yet to play all of the decks together. Another suggestion would be to include a marathon play where the game ends when there are no more non-monster cards on the top and center rows. Please consider making these changes. I love this game very much..Version: 1.13.1

Great gameThe most amazing, addictive game!!!!!.Version: 1.1.2

Can’t connect playdek and asmodee accountsFun game. AI can be a bit slow at times during offline play but lots of players online..Version: 2.2.1

Needs updateGreat representation of the game and I bought all the expansions. Needs update to support the iPhone X as well as add the new expansions from the card game..Version: 1.13.1

Great Deckbuilder, just a couple of thingsStill my favourite go-to game on iOS. So much depth and potential in every game. Love it. Still the gold standard for card game interaction. Only a couple of technical issues with it. Firstly the performance seems a bit sluggish. Even on the new iPhone XS the frame rate isn’t very good, which seems odd for the complexity of what’s on screen. Probably more than it seems, but still. (I have been spoiled by the excellent PC version too, which is also great) The other issue also stems from a recent upgrade to the iPhone XS, the notch. There’s a chunk of game hidden behind the notch, and the rounded screen corners don’t quite line up either. The former is actually an issue, the latter just a cosmetic thing. Gameplay wise there’s nothing much to complain about, it’s great fun and the extra mechanics added by the expansions are perfect for swapping in and out. I would like the option to push the honor pool to a higher value, as others have mentioned. With a few expansions enabled it can take a while for the deck to start ‘working’. Oh, and a button to spend all remaining red runes on cultists would be good. 20 runes and nothing in the center row? Lots of dragging ;) So yes. If you like deck builders or just mobile card games at all, this is one of the best. Easy to learn, great controls and some excellent expansions for when you’re ready to add complexity..Version: 2.0.1

No campaign! This is a very good game. I think it could use some sort of single player campaign mode where you have to defeat ai characters to win a tournament or something. Other than that it is a near perfect game. The artwork on the cards is very neat..Version: 1.1.2

Love itI've never played a card game like this before and the deck building/buying during the game works really well. Anyone with a slight interest in Card games should just snap this up straight away. Great stuff. The multiplayer games work really well either Async or real time if your both active at the same time, theres even a green, orange, red light next to people's names to show if they are on or offline or online but not in your game. Just bought the expansion packs and promo pack. They add a lot more cards into the mix and are well worth the money, your getting the game and all 3 extra sets for less than the cost of one physical set of cards..Version: 1.2

Highly replayableFor me this is a 5-star game but with a few individual cards and mechanics that are frustrating to play with. The base game is a tonne of fun; and many of the expansions introduce unique twists, along with plenty of new cards. It’s easy to play again and again and again without feeling too ‘same-y’ each game. Most of all, the AI is pretty decent, so it’s a game you can actually play solo if you like! I’ve probably played it more than any other game on any device, including some of my favourite other cards games (like MtG and Spellweaver). My one gripe is that a few sets have just 1 or 2 cards or mechanics that are frustrating to play with. They come in two types: (1) ‘feel bad’ cards; (2) and cards that skip the ‘curve’. Type 1 are mostly ones that can steal a card from another player. They’re usually a bit randomised, but when someone’s best card is taken, it’s effectively ‘game over’. Some are just highly randomised, like an in-built dice roll mechanic in one of the sets, which can transform the game into simply ‘whoever rolls the best wins’. Type 2 are ones that skip over the otherwise gradual build up in power. Normally, you have enough ‘mana/gold’ to buy weak cards early on, medium-level cards in the mid game, and extremely powerful cards later on. But some cards and mechanics can get the extremely powerful cards right at the beginning of the game (usually at random in some way). And the way the game works is that the cards you have determine the cards you get. So, getting a powerful card early on means you can then get additional powerful cards early on and in the mid-game too. Again, it’s effectively ‘game over’. If each set had a toggle for its key mechanics and/or its cards, players who enjoy the blow out games could keep them on, and players who don’t, could turn them off..Version: 2.4.16

Great strategy card gameI have never played a game in this genre but have loved Ascension. I regularly download games, play them once or twice then return to my old favourites. Ascension has JOINED my list of old favourites, after only three days!.Version: 1.1.2

Asynchronous multiplayer! This is a brilliant and polished game. It takes a while to get used to but it soon makes sense, and the level of care that has gone into making the user interface is impressive. It is quite simply a joy to play. Other reviewers don't seem to understand that this is an "asynchronous" multiplayer game. So other players don't need to be online! Of course people are showing as offline, that's the idea. Send them a challenge and their phone or iPad will tell them it's their turn. When they're ready, they'll log on and play..Version: 1.2.1

Really cool card gameThis is a great card game. The rules and goals are easy to learn, but the game play has great depth to it, too. It has a really clean, intuitive interface and the art work on the cards is cool.(though not to everyone's liking) By far the best aspect of this game is the online game feature. It is so easy to pick up a game with somebody online..Version: 1.2

A great game.Excellent game followed up by some of the best app design mechanics I've seen yet. Some great design decisions went into this. Single-player and multiplayer are both solid experiences. Can't praise this enough!.Version: 1.2.2

Great game! Has a few bugsI love ascension in physical form and on the app and the app plays just like the main game. However, if you mix and match expansions, there are some features for some that get implemented even without the necessary extra bits being implemented (treasure cards and light/day for example). Additionally there are a few instances where the game will just crash out in a game and it will every time you try and restart the game. One last glitch I just encountered is that when a computer player has a control room as it’s lowest cost construct and a control room comes up on the board, it will enter an infinite loop of trading one control loop for the other. All in all though, great game..Version: 2.2.1

Great gameUgh wrote a review years ago, but it seems to have been deleted. This is a fantastic card game - I've been playing it on iOS since day one and have every expansion. This new update (May 2018) is the best one yet! New UI, in-game chat (finally!), and a Gift of the Elements expansion. The only thing that needs to be fixed is on the iPhone X, the virtual home button needs to be not just hidden but "deactivated" (can't be completely deactivated, but the partial at least means you need to swipe on it twice to bring up the app switcher). As it is now, it's way too easy to accidentally bring up the app switcher when you play cards, which then logs you out of network play - very annoying!.Version: 1.14.1

Addictive! This is the first fantasy card game I've played; I've always been put off them because they look so confusing, with complicated rules to follow. What I like about this game is you can have a quick game in a few minutes, or play over and over for as long as you like. It's simple enough to get to grips with pretty quickly but not so simple that you soon get bored. The graphics are beautiful but not overly elaborate so that it becomes confusing on the small iphone screen. I haven't played multiplayer yet so as an offline player it would be nice to have a scoreboard to keep track of my personal high scores. I wish there was a version I could play on my laptop as well, maybe with more cards so that it doesn't become too repetitive over time - and for the same reason I hope they bring out expansion packs for the iphone app in the future. I'm going to be buying the board game too so I can play with friends when they visit!.Version: 1.0.1

From the table to the App StoreI really love this game! 9/10 - I play it every day. I had been playing the Ascension board game for a few months and this is a much better way to play. The only thing that I would like to see changed is with the card packs for purchase. I’d like to see a more real-life situation where all players can join games that include card packs they haven’t purchased; this way, it’s like showing up to a friend’s house to play the expansion that you don’t own. You can only create games with the card sets you have unlocked, but if someone else wants to play with other card sets, you can take a seat and play with their set..Version: 2.2.0

Keeps getting betterKeeps getting better with each expansion pack..Version: 1.11.2

Love this game butI really wish there would be a feature to make custom decks. Or manually be able to choose cards to be ON or OFF in each set rather than having to include every card from a set..Version: 2.0.1

Well worth itAwesome game play very interactive for a card game and like the online play just wish it would show online players first.Version: 1.2

Great fun against friendPolished implementation of a strategy card game. Great for multiplayer against friends be its turn a day or a complete game in quick fire..Version: 1.1.2

Best fantasy card game on the iOS!!!!Beautifully designed, well polished and NO bugs:3 Is the best card game I've ever played on a computer or apple product. Don't hold back!!!!!!.Version: 1.5.0

5 Star Game - Old Issues Dealt WithChecked in again after a long time off. The crashing issues that turned me off the first time have been dealt with. All that is left is a fantastic game..Version: 2.2.1

Awesome!Don't listen to anyone saying this needs a card trading element, Ascension is an excellent example of a perfectly contained card/board game who's beauty lies in the fact that everybody plays from the same deck every game. This allows for a broad use of strategy (with a little luck of course!) and ensures no two games are the same. The asynchronous multiplayer has been implemented brilliantly, I only wish more developers took the time to craft as compelling an online experience. There are areas with room for improvement, some chat during games would be nice so you can congratulate or commiserate depending on how well you're doing, as well as some sort of persistent progression system - it would be nice to see how many games you and your opponent have won, for example. overall this is well worthy of a purchase, the single player is a good entry into the mechanics of the game but it's the multiplayer that will keep you coming back for more..Version: 1.0.1

AmazingI play this game all the time if I find myself waiting somewhere. Pay to unlock new decks, but you get the base deck for free which is more than enough. A really great game..Version: 1.11.2

Brilliant game, 100% worth the free download if you’re into these types of games.Fantastic game! The game itself isn’t overly stylish or flash, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s part of the experience. (Would recommend playing without the volume though) The game is easy to learn, but difficult to master so you’re always eager to play another round and learn something new, and without the ads you can actually enjoy it! There are multiple modes to play which means more to enjoy such as playing a 1v1 with an AI, 1v1 with someone else, playing against up to 3 opponents and even versing up to 4 players online. Not to mention the cheap $5.99 for DLC which gives access to masses of new content. Totally worth it as the game doesn’t have many standard variations of cards or play, but still enough to make you want more without making you feel like you’re playing another money hungry game..Version: 2.0.1

Fun game looking forward to future updatesThe more updates the better it gets, a work in progress..Version: 1.11.2

Need more bundlesI have played this game for a long time, mostly offline. Great cards and lots of deck build options if you switch which packs are active. I purchased the first bundle, and have honestly been waiting for the next bundle to drop so I can purchase more cards. Right now, it doesn't feel worth it to buy each pack individually when it may come out in a bundle in the future, and some game bundles won't let you purchase bundles if you've already brought a part of it. I'm too scared to buy packs because of this risk. Please either make more bundles, or if you are never making bundles again, make that clear as well..Version: 2.0.1

Great game, 1 recommendationHuge fan of this game and from a UX standpoint should be the template for how these games are designed on mobile. I own every expansion and in terms of hours used this is far and above any other game on my phone. My only request is to have an option to auto destroy as many cultists as possible when you only have attack power left but no enemies on the board to kill. Having to click the cultist then kill a bunch of times slows gameplay down when youre in your flowstate. Otherwise amazing game. Keep making digital expansions. Ill keep buying them..Version: 2.4.10

GlitchI love the game. Got allmost all expansions. Ever since latest update I can't end my turns online and offline so I can't play at all please fix!.Version: 1.8.2

Good GameGood game. Got a couple of minor bugs but without a doubt, one of my favourites..Version: 1.13.1

Very well balanced Card GameI've had this game for a few months now, an it's still my go to game, both for mindless fun when listening to podcasts, and for more in depth strategy when playing with multiple decks. There's a lot of enjoyment to be had from the free deck, but after a few weeks you'll likely be bored. My advice is to buy one expansion a week (or buy the bundle, and spend 1 week on each deck) just to get familiar with the cards. I can't imagine it being very fun just getting everything all at once and putting all decks on at once. There really is a lot of nuanced detail put into how cards and decks interact, that you're going to want to take some time getting to know each deck. One word of warning, promo pack 2 contains a card that can end the game after only a few rounds, so I rarely play that entire promo pack. Overall a really cool game, with interesting artwork that gets better over the course of the expansions. I must have sunk well over 100 hours into this game by now and foresee that number doubling over the next few months, easily..Version: 1.9.3

Love the game but...I’ve had so many games become incompletable because the game crashes. The saved game has to be deleted as loading it will cause it to crash again..Version: 2.2.0

A good solid deck building gameI felt the need to pop on and leave a review - I understand that, at some point, other people have had issues but perhaps those issues have been dealt with (I certainly haven't stumbled upon anything game breaking) and it would be a shame for you to miss out because of the bad reviews. It's slick, simple to pick up and a solid card game offering. Someone complained that you can't keep your deck and you start off weak - that's because it's a deck building game not a collectible card game... The difference is that you build your deck within each game - this means you have to alter your strategy to build with the cards on offer. I really like it but it's a shame that the online games are empty - I can only imagine it's because of the bad reviews.....Version: 1.14.4

Top Five Must Own AppI have played this game since release. There is only one other game on the app store I can say this about. Multi-player online is great and with the much needed long overdue chat feature it is only better. Ascension is originally a physical card game but it works way better as an app game. A few more features would be nice such as leaderboards and a ranking system. There has been plenty of new content over the years to keep you coming back for more. With the latest release the game has a much more polished look and feel and improved menu system. Newer players will appreciate this, but as a veteran player I will miss the more indie look and play of the previous version. The game play feels slower now but will not be something new players will be aware of as it still plays quickly. If you deckbuilding games this is a must buy..Version: 1.14.1

Awesome game. Never gets old.Release more expansions please..Version: 1.13.1

Best game ever, so close.I have played hundreds of games and I wish they’d keep adding expansions and did some debugging. This is my wish....Version: 2.2.1

Please remove player 1 player 2 cutscreen in-gameHi, since the update a cut scene saying player 1, player 2 etc...between rounds has been added.... please get rid of it insanely annoying!!!! Also update to UI has introduced some issue with missing card graphics that cause hard crash. Thanks!!!!.Version: 1.14.1

One of the only phone games I've dropped money on.Faithful adaptation of a solid deck building game. Expansions are meaningful purchases, not just loot crate/casino tactics. Pretty good AI, local multiplayer (on a single device), and a decent online multiplayer setup. Rough around the edges and lacks polish, but well worth having in your library of apps. The sluggishness people report seems to stem from long AI games with many expansions. Phone processing power probably affects it, but I've not had the AI take longer than a minute to play out its turn with 4 players near the end of the max victory point game. Come play online!.Version: 1.13.1
