✓ Excellent version of ScrabbleGiven the train wreck that the new Scrabble Go is, it’s nice to have this very clean and well-implemented version to play. The computer player is tough enough, too, to keep the game interesting. One minor quibble is that the colors of the bonus squares are different than Scrabble, so it can take a moment to get used to. I suppose this was necessary for legal reasons. However, given that they offer alternate boards (which I haven’t tried yet but which looks interesting), they should allow the user to create a custom board using any colors and square values. That would let us build a board that looks like traditional Scrabble without any copyright problems. Otherwise, great game, and one that is well worth the $2.99 for the no-ad version..Version: 3.2

✓ Good substitute for ScrabbleWhen Scrabble closed down their game I tried a few different options. This one is the best I’ve found. It has the same sort of features. My only complaint is the backgrounds - there is something about the colours that makes them much less clear than Scrabble. There are two options to choose from and I’ve tried them both. I find the nighttime one a bit better but it’s still it good..Version: 3.4.3
✓ Word MasterThis game is excellent to play. There are different stages to play the game, but I have tried normal and I find it very hard. However that is the challenge! Not tried very difficult but may have a peep just to see. The game is quick once you have played your word their word is there in a flash. No waiting about you just get in with the game. My only dilemma is that there is no button to change your tiles and at the end there is no way to tell them you cannot finish the game. I had two tiles left with no where to place them so I don’t know the result. Apart from that I think you will like it especially for the egg heads..Version: 3.7

✓ Perfect for your Scrabble fixI’ve recently been itching to brush up my Scrabble skills and I downloaded ScrabbleGo, Words with Friends, and this app. The others were so buggy but this one has worked like a dream. I like everything about it but I wish it had explained how to get the definition of a word: you just have to swipe along the word in question. I love the Master feature that lets you see moves you could have made in the previous round. It’s really helping me to be a better player! I definitely recommend this app..Version: 3.8
✓ Covid lifesaverAs a senior who lives alone and doesn’t watch tv, this has been a long few months. I found Word Master and love it! No bells going off, music playing, etc. Very straightforward with varied difficulty levels. Keeps stats and provides definitions. I thought I could play against someone online but can’t. My only criticism, but I sent an Email to ask about it from the “help” section and received a prompt and personal reply which was much appreciated. Highly recommend..Version: 3.4.3

✓ Best Scrabble App!I’ve gotten really into scrabble recently, but looking for an app that isn’t purely corporatized or bombarded with ads has been more difficult than expected. Some of the words are a little questionable, and it seems to accept some proper names and common abbreviations (eg. NY), but I think this is a feature, not a bug! ✓ Could be 5 star with a few changesThis is a great alternative to the awful Scrabble Go. Improvements could be that opponent does not see the tiles that their opponent returned to bag when exchanging tiles, which happens currently. It would also be fun to get a 50 point bonus for using all tiles in one turn, like the Bingo bonus on traditional Scrabble. Also, I would like to see my master play without being able to see opponent’s tiles. Other than this I love this app and thanks for creating it. ✓ Simply Classic FormatI like the simple classic layout. You can play against the computer which I prefer and choose your level. No gimmicks, treasure chests, medals, stars etc. like they have in Scrabble GO. That might be fun if you enjoy a computer game with rewards but I prefer to replicate the feeling of having a board in front of you with no distractions (apart from ads in the header, which you can probably get rid of if you buy the premium game..Version: 3.7
✓ Good but could be betterI like this app. But with a few tweaks could be a lot better. The master level is a little weak, I’m beating the computer 7.5/10. The tiles are not matched to official scrabble so both the values and portion are not representational. In challenge mode where the app finds the best option, the placement is not given. This is an excellent feature that’s rendered less than useful as you can no longer see the rack or the placement and therefore the opportunity to learn is limited. Update: thanks for the response. ✓ Saved (or at least helped) a marriageMy wife and I played scrabble nearly every day the old fashioned way - you know, an actual board and little wooden squares with letters! Unfortunately, my wife can bluff far better Than I ever could which meant that she would make up words, then make up definitions, then challenge me to prove that it wasn’t a real word! ✓ Almost perfectI have been a player of Scrabble EA for several years until they recently announced it is being replaced by Scrabble One, which is a disaster. I went on the hunt for a better replacement and found this, which I have been using for a short while. The more I use it, the more I like it. I would even rate it above Scrabble EA, which was the benchmark. Some of the features I really like that Scrabble EA did not have: 1. Swipe over a played word and it gives the definition. 2. The playing board fills the whole screen. 3. When playing against the computer, you aren’t always the one who plays first. 4. There is selectable option to prevent the computer from playing really obscure words. 5. Advertising doesn’t pop up after every word has been played. 6. Pay the $2.99 for the advert free version and you also get valid words appear above the rack as you move the tiles on the rack. You also get a night mode switch plus a few extra features. PAY THE $2.99 - IT’S A BARGAIN FOR THE EXTRA FEATURES. The reason I stated in the title that it’s ‘almost perfect’ is because I would like to see the developer add feature, like Scrabble EA, that shows the score of the last played word next to that word on the board. Also show the number of tiles in the computer’s rack once the bag is empty..Version: 3.2

✓ Real words that are familiar!I’ve tried several word games and ended up liking this one as the words excepted in other games are just ridiculous. This has a simple uncluttered board. It also allows you to swipe on a word to get its definition which is interesting when the computer or player puts down an unfamiliar word. ✓ The Best There IsBeing incredibly late to the party, I decided to get words with friends thinking it would be like my old scrabble app. Boy what a surprise I was in for. I’m not a gamer. I don’t care for prizes and badges, and certainly don’t have any interest in using game currency or real money to purchase extra “features”. This game is wonderful. Cuts out all the garbage and lets you enjoy a game for what it is. The ads aren’t intrusive and video ones only play after each game (not after each move). Would I like to play with my family? Of course. But for all the benefits this app has its worth losing that feature. ✓ Transfer progress to new device?The contact form won't open so I have to make my request here. I had to take the app off my iPhone so I downloaded it to my iPad2. I'm logged into the same AppleID on both devices. How can I get the settings to transfer over? I've made a lot of progress in beating the AI and would like to keep that if possible. Otherwise it's a great game. I haven't tried playing with friends so I can't rate on that. I was able to customize the board and letter distribution so it's basically a Scrabble game for me. ✓ Excellent!Free game of outstanding quality. Levels of difficulty for all abilities. Many thanks to the creators! It does appear to me to be a battery hog (old iPad mini running latest OS). I have a new iPad mini on the way and will update this review after it arrives. UPDATE: No battery problems with the new iPad Mini 6. Still love the game. My only wish is for a level of difficulty between Hard and Master. I can beat it on Hard because it leaves triple word openings. The Master setting makes no such mistakes and usually beats me. Hated how if you were doing well in Scrabble suddenly got all vowels and then if tried to swap got same letters back! Hated in Scrabble how computer played words that couldn’t find in any dictionary but love how with this game you can highlight a word and easily get the meaning. Also hated with Scrabble you are always first to start a game whereas this game you have a fairer start with either you or the computer as it would be if playing a real person. ✓ Best free scrabbleLove playing this game. I'm learning lots of new words by playing the computer and doing the master challenge. Ads are limited, but for the price, worth paying to remove them. Update - I still think this game is hands down better than any other scrabble game on the app store, my only complaint is that even though I select “protection” against getting multiple same letter draws, there are times when I get 3-4 of the same letter, forcing me to trade in and skip a turn or play them out for lower scores. This app certainly does the trick! You can even customise the board to perfectly mimic an official scrabble board layout. ✓ My go to stress killerOver four years, I think, I have played scrabble with this app. It is my go to when I need to unwind and relax! Great mental excessive for vocabulary building and recall. It's Simple to use and straight forward. I can add board designs and change the letter scores and quantities to make the game more challenging. The setting choices are pretty good. I like the option to play on or off line as well. The dictionary is good but the only area that I get frustrated in. Not a major ordeal or I wouldn't stick with the game but I do run into conflicts now and then with words not recognized, a need to update the common current vocabulary and some abbreviations that shouldn't be allowed. ✓ AddictiveI chose this as an alternative to EA’s Scrabble which is finishing soon and their new option is not what I’m looking for. This app is great. I have designed my own board to replicate the position of bonus squares as the Scrabble board is configured. Love the little features like checking the meaning of words and the points for a word changing from red to green when a viable word is completed. I like to just play against the game computer so this is just what I was looking for. The ads on the free version are not overwhelming and annoying. This is the first game I’ve found that comes close to the true original WWF. ✓ If this game had a new dictionaryThis would be perfect if they would implement a choice of dictionaries. I do not like having to use Wikipedia for my dictionary. There are words it has in it that are ridiculous, then there are words that it won’t let you play that you know darn well that they are correct. So I would prefer Webster’s Dictionary as it uses words that are “real” words, slang isn’t aloud in the real Scrabble game. Neither are capitol letters, apostrophe’s, or contractions. It’s much more challenging that way. To be able to choose a dictionary would make this game perfect! ✓ Great alternative to Scrabble GoIf like me you’ve been playing the EA version for many years Word Master is a workable replacement for the abomination that is Scrabble Go. Game play flows nicely. The computer is easier to beat than the old advanced setting in fact after about thirty games I’ve still not been beaten. On the free version the board is less legible although I am getting used to it. Some tiles have slightly different scores but you can easily create an exact version of the original Scrabble board. This will suit all scrabble nerds and is an antidote to the corporate greed and downright stupidity that spawned the ‘other one’. ✓ Mostly GoodMy only comparable experience is with the original Scrabble HD which I still have. Scrabble HD at its top setting was HARD even when I cheated with anagram finders. After five games against Word Master Classic, three at its highest setting, I’ve yet to lose. I think at least part of the problem is that it doesn’t play positionally. That is, it’ll play a low score word that sets up a possible edge board triple score for me, when it could have made the same score elsewhere. ✓ Strange selection of wordsScrabble probably has the same issue but I find the game’s criteria for what words to accept baffling, like some archaic words are accepted, but not all, some colloquial words are accepted, but not all, or some technical words are accepted, but not all. ✓ ScrabbleIt’s a great game, but it seems I get multiple vowels consistently. Several times in one game I had all vowels with only one consonant. Meanwhile the computer makes huge words. I rarely win but I try to challenge myself. I have come within 5-10 points several times but the computer always comes out with an amazing word just as I am about to win - lol. ✓ Love it!Wordmaster is the closest thing to classic Scrabble you can get. The only thing that would make it better is if you could play with friends online. Right now the only option is Pass’n’Play - your opponent has to be in the room with you. If you don't mind playing alone against the computer, it’s the next best thing to classic Scrabble. Note that the board, scoring and dictionary are slightly different from Scrabble, likely due to licensing issues, but if you’re flexible, you can easily overlook those minor differences. ✓ Word MasterThis is a brilliant game, uses many slang expressions and sloppy spellings, but it's free, works extremely well and I have only been playing Hard version since the start. However for whatever reason having just loaded it onto my new Air iPad it just closes down mid play and won't revive. On my older iPad it seems to keep it's play. This is very frustrating and I have found the only way to rectify this is to delete it on the NewPad and reinstall. What a pity when it is otherwise head and shoulders above similar games. I will say that the occasions on which I have contacted the developer he has responded at once and courteously. Am addicted so will still play on old iPad if this new one continues to be a problem. ✓ Straight to the pointI went through two word game apps before this, both of which were utterly insistent on “connect to the internet! Play with your friends! Connect this to your social media!” I deleted both, because what neither of them got is that I just wanted to play word games. That’s it. I don’t need to connect the app to my Snapchat. I don’t WANT to have to connect with friends over Facebook to play a game. This app is straight to the point, and has good customization options. You can play against a computer, play locally against someone, or try and rack up a high score. And honestly, that is all that I want, and it is everything that I want.
