Denon AVR Remote for Negative User Reviews

Capable App Falls Short on FeaturesThis is a very well laid out app, unfortunately many of the controls available on the remote are simply not available on the app. My largest complaint about the app is that when I use my phone volume controls to adjust the system volume it always jumps in 5dB increments which makes no sense. There’s no setting to change this that I can find. I don’t know who would want this. The app also resets the subwoofer input level every week or two as well which my neighbors love I’m sure. Many audio fields simply don’t exist on the app, I find myself constantly going between the app and the controller for the receiver. All in all: this app at its core works. However if you invest any real time into the app that’s more than surface level you will find many usability issues and frankly missing features..Version: 3.4.1

Suddenly stopped workingIt was always a rubbish app but convenient to change sounds modes or make quick subwoofer adjustments. Now it no loner finds my denon. Just stopped working. I was so frustrated with it I’ve begun looking for a different amp now. Denon if you’re listening- it’s the little things that make all the difference….Version: 3.7.0

Denon: Wake yourself up - 2016... it’s 2018!In this day & age where apps are an essential part of life, it’s disappointing to outlay your hard earned cash on a Denon receiver only to be let down by the quality of the app. The title says it all - Outdated and embarrassing app. I’ve been using this app for approx. 10 months and it is SO temperamental and permanently unreliable. Issues: • Every time I turn the receiver on it tells me to download the HEOS app (which I have and is equally as poor) VERY ANNOYING. • volume always reads 46.5 no matter what volume the receiver is on • Zone 2 doesn’t work on the app even though there are controls for it • sound types (ie Dolby, Jazz, Dolby X etc) don’t display where they should. • ...the list goes on.... Bottom line: I wish I’d read the reviews for this app prior to buying the receiver. I can’t use it to it’s potential because it’s not user friendly. I’ve reverted back to the Sonos. Denon.... check out the Sonos app for usability and sort yourself out - it’s 2018!.Version: 2.4.0

Still buggy after update.Like the apple play but getting it to link up to main zone and zone 2 is buggy. Example, I’ll choose the receiver in apple play and everything turns on fine however receiver stays on whatever port it was before, when I go to the app to select my phone it brings up an interface in the app but won’t control it. Going back to main zone it still stays on the wrong port. Unplug the receiver and reset then it works as expected but what a pain because I have it in a cabinet..Version: 3.2.0

App stopped workingApp stopped working Feb 2022.Version: 3.5.0

Convoluted UIThere are at least two places to adjust speaker volumes (for subwoofers, balance, etc), there are weird and intricate ways to adjust zone settings (a/b/bi-amp) and access presets. Stuff is duplicated and spread across Audyssey, audio, speaker settings and a general “options” menu. I think the app tries to support much different hardware with different options, and the UI never got thought through. Technically, this works well with my X2700H AVR, but practically, it seems almost unusable by a human being..Version: 3.5.0

Very poor app connectivityPretty much same as what everyone else is saying. No point repeating same problems. Update the app please!!.Version: 2.3.0

Never worked the day I purchased my X3700H, til now nothing has changedThe overall rating for this app says it all. Would be interested to know when a competent fix would be available to fix the connection issue..Version: 3.4.5

How can they make it worse? The previous version had Apple Music warnings that wouldn’t allow the app to run unless you have Apple Music. This latest version doesn’t even make it past the launch screen. Just awful, back to using the tried and true remote that came in the box..Version: 3.4.5

Version 3.3.0 Update Has Broken The AppEssentially the 3.3.0 version update is a disaster. Having gone from an app that worked perfectly, many of the functions now cause the app to crash such as - the power button and attempting to access the amp configuration or general settings. What makes matters really frustrating is this could all have been avoidable if the app had gone through proper testing. As it stands, this is the only way to leave developer feedback as all links just take you to the Denon main website. A once great app is now completely broken..Version: 3.3.0

100% total trashThis app is the buggiest iOS app I’ve ever used. It’s literally 5 years later after the original version was released and Denon still can’t seem to fix bugs EVERYONE has consistently complained about in these app reviews. Almost blew my speakers a few times and you can read other reviews where others weren’t as lucky. And now, out of nowhere, they want you to subscribe to Apple Music just to control the volume on your receiver????? I will never buy another Denon product again. I highly recommend staying far away from this app and company..Version: 3.4.4

JunkApp is garbage. One day it works the next day it can’t find the AVR. Probably will never buy a Denon or Marantz product after this experience..Version: 3.4.2

UselessThis app worked reasonably well for 1.5 yrs. The parade happened a couple of months ago and nothing connects. I tried all recommendations in the reviews with no success. Don’t bother with it, an excercise in frustration..Version: 3.4.0

Still crashes March 2021Went thru all the recommended steps, app still doesn’t work..Version: 3.4.2

Probably need to start from scratch on this oneUsing a receiver with just a remote is confusing unless you understand the whole menu structure and what each button does, an app should fix that right? Not this one, it feels like someone just designed an app to mimic the remote, not an app to control a receiver in an intuitive manner. -Speaker setup needs to be more obvious and have a section devoted to it, not forcing you back through then receivers on screen setup. -Selecting output type on the inputs is really corny, I didn’t even think to tap the button again to change the type, had to hunt around online in forums, this should be a drop down -would be cool if HEOS stuff appeared in here as optional speakers for other room audio. Maybe delays kill that functionality? -the manual needs to include full navigation paths! It doesn’t help to know you can do something if you have to hunt through every menu to look for it. -lots of other random stuff, but it seems like the basis for everything is that it was never designed like an app to control it in an intuitive manner. It was either designed by someone who loves the remote or just to mimic it, either one doesn’t help us out..Version: 3.0.2

Don’t purchase Denon!! App is a conAs with all other reviews the app ( main reason I was sold this unit In store) is buggy and never wants to connect . Seems even worse on IOS 12. Not good enough if you are promoting and selling this as a feature.Version: 3.0.1

Stopped even booting the app nowThis app has been buggy from the start. My AVR screen stopped just days after my warranty ran out, but I always managed to muddle through using this app. Now that this isn’t working, I guess it’s time to buy a different brand altogether..Version: 3.4.1

Just stopped - updatedThis has been working brilliantly for about three weeks until today. Now the app will not find the hardware. Reboot of app and complete reinstall does nothing. Nothing has changed as far as hardware, network, and location, etc. I’m at a complete loss. Update: turn off Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) in the app and set a fixed IP address. In practice just turning off DHCP leaves the last IP address as the fixed address (rather than having to enter a new one) and this seems to make the app work. Famous last words. When working it is good. Upping my rating..Version: 3.4.4

Finally getting thereAfter almost a year of nothing, good to see Denon are finally getting this app to work. Up until today, I have had to use the older Denon app with my AVRX-4200 as this app kept crashing or it would not respond to allow music to play on my media server. Now it is almost there, I can select tracks whilst still listening to others and create playlists. Unfortunately it is still crashing but not as badly, it also has a weird issue where when it does crash - it does not seem to recognise there is a queue of music waiting to play. Come on Denon, please keep working on this and make it perfect..Version: 2.2.1

RidiculousThis app used to work on. Since a couple of months can’t connect to the receiver anymore. Seeing all the other reviews with similar complaints, I am wondering why we don’t see an update with a fix. Crazy..Version: 3.4.2

BugsThe app is known to freeze. It seems like Denon dosent care to update or fix the bugs in the app.Version: 3.4.2

Unfixed bugsThere is no excuse for the problems with this app. The biggest issue is that any changes you make to things like Tone will switch off and reset every time you change input sources. Seriously annoying & so frustrating that Denon have known about this for a long time yet ignore it!.Version: 3.0.1

DenoThe system is a joke , I’ve reset it many times I deleted the app sad for the creator. Time to build another new app this is 4 years old ..Version: 3.7.1

BrokenNo longer works with my receiver S930H.Version: 3.6.0

Won't Work AnymoreWorked perfectly for months until all of a sudden it wouldn't connect anymore. Made sure the reciever was connected to the internet with an Ethernet cable as well. Extremely dissapointing..Version: 3.4.0

No TVI am not attaching my Denon x3700 to a TV. It is not possible to assign speakers without a TV. Why you can’t setup / amp assign etc in the App is frustrating. Please improve the app, or I’ll have to return the amplifier and get Sonos..Version: 3.5.0

Nice idea, poor executionThe app is a very nice idea, especially for configuring an amp. However the actual implementation leaves a lot to be desired. It crashes a lot, isn’t very reliable at detecting my amp, and it’s user interface text suggest it was made by developers with a less than stellar grasp of English. Thankfully there’s also an old fashioned IR remote in the box. It does mean you need to have a tv connected and powered on to configure the amp properly though..Version: 3.0.0

Total waste of time and effortZero stars if it would allow me. Many emails to support and still it does not work. Turn this off, turn that on, contact your router manufacturer, contact your internet provider. Your IT department is completely useless, you should sack them and employ someone who can write some decent software, and make it work without all the faff..Version: 3.1.1

App Stopped WorkingI have been using for the past year - although it’s rather slow and clumsy, it worked. As of last week though, it no longer loads or recognises my AVR-X1600H. I have tried the usual troubleshooting: deleting and reinstalling the app, power cycle the amp, reset the router all to no avail. Massive disappointment as the controls on the AMP are also clumsily, dated and convoluted, especially to make adjustments on the fly. Get your act together Denon. It’s 2021, a working app is a basic expectation..Version: 3.4.5

Works fine - when it works!Found this app very handy on iPad and used it often when got my S960H - and then there was an iOS update and poof the app is just useless as it can never find my AVR. Open the app and looks for receiver but can never find it no matter how many times I tap Refresh button it never shows up. I actually miss it as standard remote is very basic and the app made it easier to change settings. Would’ve given app 4 stars if could use it! DM is a big company and have no excuse not to have enough people to keep this app up to date..Version: 3.4.1

No longer worksOnly seems to work now if you have Apple Music.... useless.Version: 3.4.4

Not WorkingThe app has crashed on all 4 devices and doesn't work.Version: 2.0.1

Worst appWhatever was just updated screwed up the connection from phone to receiver. Other than that it’s the buggiest, worst laid out, sloppy app I have on my phone. I’m willing to bet the developer is related to the decision makers and got the job not on merit. lol.Version: 3.8.0

Terrible connectivity issuesWindows 95 called and want their software back..Version: 3.4.2

Complete toiletI have an AVR-2200W. When attempting to connect the app to the amp the app reports the amp as not a compatible device. The worked perhaps 50% of the time on a previous version. The amp is on the latest firmware. I’m sick of buying high quality gear and being let down by useless technical implementation. Get some in-house software engineering and invest in them!.Version: 3.0.0

The appNot impressed only one of the apps work the old version and not that great have to reset it constantly and I bet nobody is listening***the sale was made profits produced and you don’t care about your clients.Version: 3.8.0

Good receiver bad applicationWorks Poorly before now stopped working completely Denon apps always bad.Version: 3.4.5

App does not workI’ve power cycled, reset to original settings and followed all Denon’s trouble shooting recommendations... the app finds my receiver after 2 minutes of searching and then promptly freezes. Every time..Version: 3.3.3

Connects 1 out of 15 timesAlways randomly disconnects with no way to reconnect despite deleting and reinstalling the app. Highly frustrating!!.Version: 3.0.0

Doesn’t work!Since last update app can’t connect with any iOS device. Tried submitting ticket but forced to try and select device - when pull-down menu select it is empty. Zero service support on app, is the company in trouble, going bankrupt? Time to look for “NON-Denon” AVR?.Version: 3.4.2

Heos vs SonosI had several Sonos devices before upgrading my Denon receiver several years ago. I am still running Sonos on the second floor of my house. I originally bought some heos devices for the first floor to integrate with the new Denon AVR which had Heos. It seemed like a good idea and offered more power and volume for my outside speakers. It really does have great surround sound when everything works. I regularly have problems with the system finding the Denon receiver. The app is far from bulletproof and glitches up regularly. Conversely, even when the Heos system is giving me fits, which is often, the Sonos system works like a charm. Sonos is really close to bulletproof, works all the time and seldom glitches, if ever. I am seriously considering dumping all of the Heos devices, and I have several, and replacing them with Sonos. The Heos system has been a disappointment from the beginning and unfortunately it has not improved in the past 3 or so years since I bought these devices. The hardware is good stuff but the software is doggie do do. I can’t understand why they can’t get this working better. I am still hopefully but it seems like they should have had enough time to fix these problems so it is doubtful that it will ever really work well..Version: 3.4.2

Horrible AppWhile we like the amp, this app is terrible. Rarely works and, when it does, it’s not very good..Version: 3.4.2

Useless AppCan no longer connect to my receiver at all after last update. Thanks Denon. A crappy app somehow made even worse. Didn’t think it was possible. Seriously…spend a little money and make a proper app before your entire Conpany is left in the digital dust..Version: 3.4.5

Unreliable and frustratingDenon make fantastic hardware but the app is underdeveloped and unattended! Always slow, temperamental and frustrating to use. I have been unable to sync the app with the receiver for weeks now. firmware is up to date, app is up to date, everything reset and still no communication between devices 😖😖.Version: 2.4.0

Rubbish!Looks good but I wouldn't really know keeps crashing.....Version: 1.1.1

Latest update doesn’t workThe latest version 3.4.4 no longer works on my iPad, despite previous versions working. It won’t connect to any receiver. The same version on my iphone now says I now need a subscription to AppleMusic for the app to work. What have you done Denon?.Version: 3.4.4

Some easy extensions required...There are plenty of frustrating things with this app like the unintuitive layout, laggy controls, occasional crashes and various other issues. Generally i find controlling my avr-3600 through the web interface a better experience. But what the app REALLY needs is extensions that integrate with Apple Shortcuts. It would then be possible to control the receiver alongside other devices like a TV. Having to a separate app for each device is a terrible user experience and Denon should do more to try and integrate control with Shortcuts, WebKit Home and IFTT. (Yes, I’ve used Roomie Remote, Harmony etc etc but it’s all very sub-optimal).Version: 3.3.2

Common DenonStop being bean counters and stand behind the people who buy the Denon product. Be a leader in the industry, don’t just sit on your hands. Update the app so it’s functional, Provide regular updates. Hardware side of things the HDMI switching has got to be the slowest I’ve seen, 30 odd seconds..Version: 3.3.3

Lost connection ?????Lost connection unable to find AV, having used the amp and app fir a few days the app now can’t see my AV and worse still is I deleted it, reinstalled and guess what? Yes it still can’t see my amp. It does however ask to find others. This is the first Denon amplifier I’ve bought and the AVX2700H is pretty faultless but the app is not..Version: 3.4.0

Has become unusableWorked flawlessly for years with my X4400H and then started to get ‘glitchy’ earlier this year. Now it won’t even connect. Have tried removing app and reinstalling, sw is updated on receiver. Still no go..Version: 3.4.2

Stopped connectingI have used this app for a while now without any problems. Now today it identifies my AVR-X6400H receiver, but doesn’t connect. It just stopped working in the middle of watching a movie. First it froze. I restarted the app, than restarted my iPhone X, than removed and reinstalled the app, restarted the receiver, but nothing! None of the usual steps work. The IR remote works, but not the app. I did have problems with the app freezing up over the last month or two. Go figure. I initially would have given it a 5 star rating. But not now. Denon help!!!!.Version: 3.0.2

Hmmmm what¿??Can you fix ur sht app.Version: 3.4.4

Simply doesn't workThis app is abysmal, and I wish I'd known before I bought my new receiver (AVR-X2300W). It just can't detect the receiver on the network. I have an Ethernet connection to my router and a static IP address. The only way I can get it to work at all is to turn it on using the remote control and then type in the IP address (note that after typing in the address, there's no "Next" or "Done" button, just a back-arrow). Even after typing in the address, it still doesn't show the receiver in the list of detected devices, even though I can use the app. Not being able to use the app without manually turning on the receiver first is a complete joke. What I wanted was a receiver where I could wake up in the morning, grab my phone and turn on some music on the receiver in the living room. But no, not from Denon. They make great audio equipment, but don't have a clue about IT..Version: 2.0.1

Needs WorkNo connection problems here. But... You can’t adjust everything on the app, but if you are feeding media to the receiver from or through your TV instead of through the receiver first, you can’t see the on screen display to make the adjustments!?! If it allowed all setting to be adjusted on the app it would be complete. Add setup saving (instead of to a USB) and I’d give it 5 stars! It does cover the basics if you are just tweaking the sound after setting everything up..Version: 3.4.2

AnnoyingSeriously, the last update is garbage. The Apple Music subscription warning is ridiculous. Why is it even there? Also, this app really needs a UI update. Its outdated and a cumbersome to use..Version: 3.4.4

App won’t even openI bought a HEOS enabled Denon receiver with two additional HEOS speakers about two months ago. Although the speakers are a bit boomy the sound great and the system was fun to use. Now the HEOS app still works fairly well but the this receiver app won’t even open. And before this started happening the app was failing to accurately control the receiver. I would turn the volume up and it would return to its original position a few seconds later. I would have to shut the app immediately so it would not return to the original volume. Now it won’t even open. I have closed and reopened the app, rebooted my phone, and redownloaded the app, all to no avail. Please fix this app! Or I will have to return the whole system..Version: 2.3.0

Won’t connectI can see my Amp but anything past that won’t connect. The old app on my old Amp works fine. The Heos app recognizes and controls the Amp, but not this App. Just doesn’t work. I just don’t want to build into the ecosystem with this level of willful ignorance and neglect. Extremely disappointing..Version: 3.7.1

More bugs than the last versionFirst time using the new version and it wont change input to tv audio. Well, changes it, but i dont get the tv audio display in the app anymore. Also, doesnt turn off the avr anymore. Power button in app doesn’t work for some reason. Still cant turn on with alexa or choose input. “Sorry, i cannot find a device named den”. Guess i will try changing its name in Alexa. Sometimes i cant change its volume with alexa either. Sometime works setting volume to 55. Sometimes says volume can only be set from 1-10. Wish it worked better. Still no google play music support..Version: 3.0.0

“UNREAL”I understand Covid-19 has impacted things. In this day an age I shouldn’t have these types of issues with an app. I believe the last two updates have made this app the worst app ever. With the amount of money Denon makes you would think there app would be flawless like it was before. Very disappointed with this garbage..Version: 3.4.2

Pretty poorI’ve had this app for about two years. It’s the opposite of what Denon’s receivers are. Which is to say it’s pretty crap. It frequently thinks my Amp is off when it’s on. Takes forever to connect sometimes where no other device on my network has problems. In much need of a revamp and quality control update. Use the remote instead !.Version: 3.4.2

App stopped working after update. This app won’t work properly anymore after updating. Please fix this as soon as possible. I’ve tried the app on two different iPhones, and it still won’t work..Version: 3.4.5

So many bugs!So frustrated with the Denon app, love their hardware hate their software. I’ve had the app installed for over a year and use it regularly. I don’t think there has ever been a time that I’ve used it without some frustration. The app is incredibly slow, connection to the AVR drops out, sometimes music will randomly stop playing, sometimes music won’t play at all. Currently all my favourites are in a loop of alphabetically reordering themselves from A-Z then Z-A. This is preventing me from clicking on any. A solid working, reliable app would be hugely appreciated please Denon!.Version: 2.2.1

App no longer detects receiverA once solid app is now a certified dud. DM Holdings must have stopped dev support of this app. The lack of DENON support feedback in the App Store further solidified this theory..Version: 3.4.0

Please sort this mess outSadly this app is useless. Originally it seemed to work ok, but now I am unable to connect to my receiver that originally was fine..Version: 3.0.2

Stay far, far, away.Even with Ethernet the stability of this app and our denon receiver itself is terrible. This app feels like it was hacked together in 2 months. We have a fairly stable network and even simple tasks like turning on Sirius or changing the channel is a 5-10 minute struggle because buttons just don’t do anything or they produce extremely unpredictable behavior. Meanwhile airplay on my phone and any other kind of streaming on other devices works perfectly fine. Best of all our new denon of less than a year old was deemed too old to have native AirPlay 2 support. That is how denon treats it’s $1000 products. The device model itself has less than a year in age and they are already cutting it off from features. Do not buy denon..Version: 3.0.3

Good, needs one more featureThis is a decent app that gives pretty good control over the receiver functions. In my situation the amp is tucked away in another room so WiFi control is key. Airplay2 works great as well. The one additional feature would be an option to set “scenes” for speaker control. In my case I have the b speakers on my patio and the a speakers plus a subwoofer in my living room. If I run the outdoor speaker (B) only, the indoor sub still plays. I can manually turn it off in the app, but a macro or scene setting that does that automatically would be awesome. As is it takes a number of steps to turn on the b speakers then turn off the sub. And reversal to play in other room....that’s why I gave it three rather than five stars. Add that feature and this is a five star app..Version: 3.3.3

Such a let downTERRIBLE, if I could leave no stars I would!.Version: 3.4.5

Generally good but missing some killer featuresI’ve been using this app for years and it’s got better over time - far fewer crashes than in the early days. It’s missing some killer features. For example, if you have AVRs with multiple zones, there’s no way to control the volume across zones simultaneously. Additions such as this would elevate the app. Somewhat less critical (as it’s niche, and covered off for music in the HEOS app) would be the ability to control multiple AVRs at once..Version: 3.6.0

Constantly CrashesConstantly crashes with the avr-x3500 running on the latest firmware / iOS which makes it pretty much unusable. While it looks like it might be a good app if it worked properly, it’s far to unreliable to be any use. Really disappointed in the Denon software as I’ve used the Yamaha app for years with my old amp which doesn’t have any of these sort of issue.Version: 3.0.2

Thanks for nothingThere should be a way to roll back to previous versions. This app is trash and now HEOS + this doesn’t work anywhere in my home..Version: 3.3.3

Bad.. so badThe app was bad to begin with but then you updated it and somehow made it worse. When I launch it, it tells me I need an Apple Music subscription and the app will close. Denon is definitely not on my list when replacement time rolls around as I’ve had constant issues with the receiver as well..Version: 3.4.4

Denon Remote 2016Remote worked for awhile but won’t connect to my AVR now. Denon tech support told me it’s a problem with my ISP. I don’t think so. I tried an older Denon App with limited features. Connected fine. Tried a third party app. Works fine. There are bugs with this App. Very disappointed.Version: 3.4.1

Denon appPlease fix this ASAP !! Does not work anymore 🤬.Version: 3.6.0

Terrible. Crashes. Please Denin fix this.It seems amazing in 2022 that Denin are still relying on a buggy, unintuitive app to control their high end receivers. The app frequently crashes, says the unit is switched off when it’s clearly on and even when it does work, is unintuitive. Their suggestions for fixing the problem invariably involve restarting every single device, then they laughably give you a tutorial on how to connect to Wi-Fi when the problem is they have not bothered to do the work. It puts me off buying Denon products in the future. In the meantime I’ve just stopped using this piece of cr@p..Version: 3.5.0

Presently seems brokenCompletely stops Airplay from being available, most controls for the receiver were greyed out saying this function is unavailable and instructed me to use the IR remote and change the settings on the connected monitor. I presently don’t have it connected to a TV, and not being able to change the settings via the app would make it useless even if using it didn’t make it brick until I deleted the app. If it could actually act *as* the monitor and settings interface, it would be a handy tool but as it stands it’s basically just a dud.Version: 3.7.0

What the hell happened?Last updated effectively bricked the app. Running iPhone XS. It took 2 minutes to initialise the app, and now none of the audio menu is available. I need to adjust the audio delay as the sound is often different coming out of my Apple TV. Can we revert to previous please? Actually scratch that. It’s basically unusable now. Please revert ASAP.Version: 3.4.0

Decent but broken on my 6400 since updateNever had any real problems with this app until the recent update. No longer connects to the amp, just hangs, and my amp has latest firmware..Version: 3.4.2

Previous post was spot onThat was the best and truest review I’ve ever heard, I feel his pain. This app is terrible and in today’s world where people do everything wirelessly it’s not acceptable, I spend a lot of money upgrading my denon avr every few years and cannot say a bad word about them but you need to get with the times and support your customers with intelligent firmware/apps. Don’t care if I have to pay for it as long as it does what I want. For other denon users out there, I’m using a payed app called de remote, may not suit your device or needs but it lets me change speaker channels as I go, among other settings. Just wish I can have custom set saves so can choose between them depending on my audio and mood..Version: 3.1.1

Gets out of sync with my 4500Love Denon hardware.... Despise Denon Software.... It promises so much, and then just goes in the opposite direction. In reality, the 80% of the time when it works, its fantastic and does what it needs to. This only makes the remaining 20% of the time when it says the reciever is off, when its on, or vice versa, or just doesnt do anything are a frustrating pain in the jacksy. The fix is easy, unload the app, switch receiver off, wait 20 seconds, switch it back on, have it connect to a source, then run the app to take control again. Id recommend anyone buy the 4500, best amp ive had ever.... it goes with my b&w speakers beautifully and the setup just sings to me... The app is the worst part of the setup when its off on one..Version: 3.0.2

Functional but clunky.Using it on a X4700 series. Great overall receiver, controls are relatively responsive for the receiver. Interface is clunky and not very intuitive to switch between zones vs zone sources vs overview. Things get even more complicated when playing multiple sources through multi-zone (eg: I can’t quite seem to duplicate TV audio to zone 2 despite selecting the settings). Furthermore, streaming via app or amplifier seems to be problematic - in the app, it appears to default to Bluetooth and Heos, which doesn’t work for my Apple Music as it’s “DRM protected”. Airplay doesn’t even seem to be an option in the app, forcing me to exit out to use iTunes, switch back for volume control, then switch again for song selection. Airplay also has its issues - Airplay cast to the receiver I can’t assign which zone I’m air playing to. The receiver appears to assign airplay to the last used zone if both zones are active, or to the zone that’s turned off. Super problematic as if I’m doing multizone and someone’s watching TV airplay can sometimes kick off the TV audio instead of my desired Zone 2. To compound the problem, if Airplay takes over a zone, you have to power cycle the zone before you can switch audio to a different source other than Airplay, as Airplay somehow locks that zone in and the app/remote loses responsiveness to change to a different source. For some reason, Bluetooth connectivity has a lot of DPC latency and jitter. Haven’t been able to figure that one out. Siri should have more finer control over receiver functions..Version: 3.5.0

Not working againWas fine, did an update and disappointed. Recognized my receiving. That’s it!! Nothing working…..Version: 3.7.0

Why Bother To UpdateNever fails. Every time there is an update it takes weeks before the app will work again. The reviews like this are incessant, how does Denon continue to let this happen?.Version: 3.4.1

Updated this App - amazing it’s removed my Av ampAfter updating the App it removed my control on my iPhone 7 HEOS also stopped working with the app - only way to get everything working again is to unplug my AVR 2400H for at least 10 seconds and then reboot - after that everything came back on the find my AVR in both Apps - working all good now, but no control over Audyssey control ? Maybe resetting the AVR has removed my Audyssey setting ? Not rushing to go back through that set up again..Version: 3.3.1

Invest in decent App DevelopersWe have invested our money in your product, Denon. This app needs error handling and time out procedures. If the app detects a receiver (I have three X2400H receivers on my network), but it is unable to connect to it for some reason, have the app stop trying to connect. Upon opening, if the app is unable to connect to the receiver you were controlling previously, well you pretty much have to uninstall the app and reinstall it. I have had to do this at least 20 times. I have a robust network so it is not my connection..Version: 2.4.0

Stopped working on AVR-X2200WAutomatically updated to the latest version of the app and it no longer finds my AVR-X2200W. It had been working fine for months until the update. My third party app still finds and controls the receiver so i know my network is fine ... and I’ve also found that IP control from my browser is ok..Version: 3.1.1

Junk appThis is an embarrassment of an app from a reputable company like Denon; very unreliable, glitchy and crashes frequently..Version: 3.4.2

Terrible AppThis app is terrible, even connected with a cable in the USB it can’t find my AVR-X2500H. I just want something to control the treble and bass, it’s not hard. I agree with the user above, these apps are seriously damaging your brand. You should remove them from use or you will pay for it in the next few years. I know I made a mistake now buying your AVR..Version: 3.3.1

Latest update a backward stepThe colour scheme of the latest update is very hard to read with the text being very dark against a dark background. The app has slowed down a lot since the last update and has crashed once since I started using it 15 minutes ago. Can do better..Version: 3.0.0

App doesn’t match the quality of the productConstantly having to delete and repair the app as it’s not fit for purpose. They need to pay a decent developer to sort it out..Version: 3.7.0

Works on X3300W, does not find X3000I like this app. A lot. I would like it a lot more if it would control both my AVRs. The other Denon remote app effortlessly sees both receivers, and third party remote apps have no problem seeing these two amps. Why can’t this app do likewise? In fact, my iPad does not even show this app in my Settings area. It’s like a stealth app or something. The issue is I’m using the X3000 as a distribution amp, and I really need the ability to control its individual speaker channel volume levels. This app does exactly that on my 3300. Please make it work on the 3000!.Version: 3.5.0

Not the best. Now crashes.Had been using this very average app since I got my AVR4400 around two years ago. Not since the latest update I can’t start the app. Crashes on the loading screen every time. Running iOS 13.latests. I wish receiver manufactures where in the 21st century an not stuck in the early 90’s.Version: 3.3.0

2016???Looks like it was developed when the name suggests Very disappointing for such an awesome audio brand as Denon Spend a bit of money and do it right to match the quality of your hardware PLEASE.Version: 3.2.0

Just stopped workingWas working fine. Then just stopped working. It sees my AVR in the app but will no longer connect to it. Unless they come up with an update fix will probably dump it..Version: 3.4.5

Horrible App - Literally blew my speakersSo uh, this is really something. My receiver works wonderfully. However, I thought that the app would be a nice way to enhance the functionality of my setup. Boy was I wrong - This app barely works correctly at all, and often will do the exact opposite of what you want it to do. There seems to be a serious abundance of software bugs and I STRONGLY recommend that anybody who cares for the well being of their sound system avoid this app at all costs. I blew more than half the speakers in my setup (well over 1k worth of damage) by simply pressing the volume up button of my phone ONCE when I was in the main screen. Instead of bumping up the volume by only 5 or even 10 dB, it set it to the MAX POSSIBLE VOLUME (even bypassing the limits I put in place to prevent anything like this from ever happening) that the receiver could output and did irreversible damage to my vintage audio setup I had painstakingly spent acquiring and tuning over the years. Extremely disappointed that Denon could accompany such a fantastic receiver with such an atrocious app. Do NOT download this app. It WILL destroy your system. Just stick to the remote or the physical buttons on the unit until Denon’s application development team gets their act together..Version: 3.4.0

Fantastic Idea - Poor ExecutionUpdate: My Denon is hardwired. The previous issue with the app not finding the hardwired receiver seems to be resolved, but now with this latest update, the app will suddenly say the wireless network is not available, and that I should close the app until it is available, and then the app crashes. Some very poor coding and error handling. However when it works, it’s fantastic! What a great idea for an app! I would use it regularly if it was stable. About once per month I start the app up and it can't detect my receiver. I have it set to a static IP so there should be no reason for this. When I try to enter the IP the app says it's not a supported device. I have to delete the app and reinstall it to get it working again. Unbelievably poor development. I suspect some idiot VP at D&M decided to outsource the development because they don't know what they are doing. Really hope someone hires a real dev team and fixes this app so it works, because it really is a fantastic idea..Version: 2.2.1

BrokenAfter struggling for months with the nightmarishly poor and ill conceived Heos app, I also intermittently get lumbered having to use this awful, broken mess. It fails in so many different ways there’s not enough room to enumerate them all here, but let’s take today’s episode of incompetence as a typical example. I fire up Heos to listen to the radio, but for some reason the sound is only coming out of the front speakers. Opening this app, I would like to set this channel to “All Zone Stereo on”, an operation that normally takes several button presses, but on this occasion the Denon AVR app thinks the amp’s power is off, so won’t do anything. I close and reboot the app. Still nothing. I try using the AVR app’s power button in a vain attempt to get it to acknowledge that the amp, which is sitting no more than 3m away is actually switched on. No dice. Heos was updated only a week or so ago, so this egregious level of crapness is actually AFTER its latest update. It would be funny if I didn’t have to suffer this nonsense on a daily basis. Denon, I love your hardware but your software is almost spitefully appalling..Version: 3.0.1

No longer finds my receiverThe app used to “work.” well, at least it would connect to my receiver. Now neither this app or the HEOS app can find my receiver. Nothing has changed on my LAN or WiFi. So, it’s either a receiver firmware update issue (would be no shock, given the track record), or something that has changed in the app(s) related to network connectivity. Denon’s products are great! I’ve had several units over the years now. This app, however, not so much. Lemme go out on a limb and say that maybe it’s time to roll out a new app. After all, it is 2019 and we’re still stuck using the 2016 app..Version: 3.2.0

Doesn't workApp can't detect the receiver avr-x3200w. All other networking on the receiver works..Version: 2.0.1

App stopped workingThe latest update broke the app and my firmware is up to date on the receiver. Why does this keep happening with your products!? 😡.Version: 3.6.1

Latest Version Requires Apple Music SubscriptionCome on guys. Do I really need an Apple Music Subscription to use the App? I don’t think so. This must be really embarrassing for Denon. And if it is a requirement to have an Apple Music Subscription, just to be able to control my AVR with the App, then maybe you can buy the AVR back off me and I’ll go elsewhere. Please get it right!.Version: 3.4.4

Bugs remain after updatesSeriously Denon. How hard is it? Users all report the same thing - changed settings such as tone or EQ don’t stick after changing input sources. This problem has existed for an unacceptable period of time & is still there after updates. Just fix it. This sort of neglect has turned me off ever buying Denon equipment again..Version: 3.0.2

Oh dearNow had the amp for over a year ,the app has always been rubbish to use . Now with the latest update the developers have managed to make it even worse, you couldn’t write it . I think my 12 year old grandson could make a better job of it How can an international company like Denon ignore the many many bad reviews of their app and still make it even WORSE than it was when it was just dreadful . It’s a shame Apple don’t test the app before its published and I’m sure they would take it off their platform. FFS SORT IT OUT I just can’t wait to see the what joy the next update will bring..Version: 3.3.0

Speaker controls missingThe app has a lot of settings missing which are available via the physical remote control. Especially in speaker settings you can change crossover or bass management settings via the app which is annoying, especially when wanting to listen to music with the tv turned off..Version: 3.4.1

A long way to go yetUpdate - June 2017: this app has had multiple updayes since I posted my review and there has been improvement in the app<>receiver connectivity. I routinely have to do a network restart and the app is still painfully sluggish to start on each and every occasion, regardless of whether it's being opened or if it's the foremost app and your phone or tablet has to be woken up. In this day and age this level of software function is simply not acceptable. Never buying Denon ever again. Review downgraded to 1 star. Original review: First, I want to make it clear that although the amp and the app functions are quite closely tied the 2 stars are not for the amp but for the combination of this app with the amp. The amp, an AVR2200W, is very good. The app routinely gets to a point where it's no longer able to communicate with the amp and I have to "reboot" the amp's network. Inconvenient and annoying. The app's response time is just awful. Everytime the app has not been used for a few moments it appears to have to "reconnect" to the amp. I don't know what's going on but it's a pain in the neck. I never saw the Kodi app do any thing like that. It's always available and responsive. The music navigation interface is just rough. If you're navigating a USB drive you have to constantly wait for the file listing to "catch up" to the display. While this is happening all you can see a losting that reads "item##". Fortunately the DLNA listing has an alphabetical jump menu but playing any album or playlist will result in only 2 songs being played and then it stops. Like I said, rough..Version: 2.2.0

Multiple receiversThe app is decent. I don’t have too much in the way of predictability or responsiveness or no more or less then sonos etc. what would improve the rap for me is if you didn’t have to drill down so much to switch receivers. I have a CI series receiver who’s app is easier to switch to other zones to control sources and volumes. The denon AVR app has more feature control but is less nimble. Maybe some smart dev can give us the best of both worlds..Version: 3.5.0

Why can't I give zero stars?Denon hardware is incredibly high quality and has a great reputation. I am proud of my Denon system. Your developers are useless however, a five year old could make this app function. To be clear, I don't mean function better, I mean function at all. Absolutely pathetic, Apple obviously didn't test it before approving it. Needs to be removed from the App Store until a competent developer is hired. If this continues my next AVR won't be Denon..Version: 2.2.0

Embarrassingly unusableThis app is emblematic of the rise of tech companies in the A/V space (Sonos) and the fall of A/V companies for not keeping up. I love my Denon receiver, but this app has been antiquated and frustrating (best case) or plain unusable. Even when working as expected, functionality and interface are outdated. Over the years, it has stopped functioning (crashing on startup, crashing when pressing the Settings button, unable to transmit basic commands) so often, I’ve lost count. Currently, it crashes on startup. I’ve reached out to Denon customer support, who stopped answering after my 2nd email. If companies like Denon continue to fail to put modern technology and UI/UX front and center, it will be the death of them. I’m at the point that I’ll never buy a traditional receiver again. Moving on to Sonos or similar..Version: 3.5.0

Absolutely garbage appWhy oh why does the app default to limit the volume to 74%? Hardly worth using.Version: 3.4.1

Dynamic EQ keeps resetting when switching inputsAs the title, “Dynamic EQ keeps resetting when switching inputs” suggests whenever i use the quick input selector on the bottom of the app my dynamic eq switched to off on the previous input that was turned on. I have dynamic eq set to on, L/R bypass for all inputs but if i switch to another input its resets to the off position. I go into the settings using the app and deactivate dynamic eq and do the same steps again and it switches off again. I have tested this with the offical hardware remote and it doesn’t switch off. The app must be sending some type of command to reset my audessy dynamic eq to off whenever i have it on.Version: 2.4.0

App doesn’t work (spins loading) on latest iOS iPhone 12App worked well on older iOS but with latest iOS 15.4 app isn’t loading on the phone even after removing it and reloading it still no good. Very annoying!.Version: 3.5.0

Still Not WorkingUpdated - After unplugging receiver and plugging it back in the app has now started working again. Thanks Denon! I just updated hoping that this update would fix the previous update. The app used to work flawlessly until the previous update which made it impossible for my phone to connect to my receiver. After updating this time I STILL CAN’T connect to my AVR-X1500H. When I try to connect the app it just cycles and gets stuck. Please Please fix this so I can connect my iPhone XR!.Version: 3.5.0

Very poor effortDoesn’t work the AVR-3300W, never finds it despite it being on the same WiFi network and AirPlay being fine. Complete lack of clarity as to which models are supposed to work with this app, but one of the many versions of their ‘custhelp’ pages listed the 3300W as compatible with this app, which is patently rubbish, and has been for several years now it seems... The continued lack of responsiveness to a clearly disgruntled user community indicates a pretty dooshy company, best avoided..Version: 3.0.3

Nice when it worksIntermittent connection to the receiver, sometimes need to unplug to allow use. When it does work has some nice functionality and reasonably intuitive user interface. Denon must improve stability. Update: web interface works - presume problem is with app (used on either phone or tablet). Latest software, firmware, os, etc. Denon please fix this..Version: 2.4.0

Laggy and doesn’t match webIt lacks some features on the web interface (crossovers for one) and also has slightly different menus which is not intuitive. It’s also slow and laggy and can often show wrong data. If you switch presets it may sometimes show the previous presets data instead.Version: 3.4.2

Not GoodThis app is specifically for my compatible AVR-X3700H receiver however this app only opens up every 3 to 4 tries and when it does open, it sees my receiver but not once has it connected to it no matter how many times I restart my iPad or reboot my modem or receiver..Version: 3.4.2

App no longer connecting to my Denon since the upgrade 2 days agoApp no longer connecting to my Denon device since the upgrade 2 days ago!.Version: 3.4.0

This app used to ROCK.But now on my iPhone 14 and iPhone X — when I swipe the app up and off my screen? It unavoidably activates one of the Quick Select choices— the memorizable settings for viewing during day time or late night (quiet time) viewing? Make one wrong swipe and suddenly late night quiet viewing becomes DAYTIME PLAY IT LOUD viewing!! Oh joy! And here come the upstairs neighbors, again! Care to take this one, Mr. Denom??.Version: 3.7.1

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔Just spent £1000 on a new reciever to replace the previous 2 Onkyo recievers I had as I was sick of the outdated app and lack of reliability of it. The reciever, fantastic and without doubt the best I've owned. The app however, has been developed by a potato. Lucky if I can get into it without it crashing every time, please fix this. It's nearly 2020, we have people living in space, men can be women and have boobies, yet you guys can't keep your app from closing. Please fix this so your products stand out as they should..Version: 3.3.0

Please spare a few minutes to work on your appsDenon please do your customers and yourselves a favour on hiring an app developer, someone who has completed primary school, for a day and sort out the mess that your apps are. Being an app based remote system, it is shameful that a 500 dollar receiver simply would not work beyond the basic speaker connection function. Try to change settings on the AVR remote, it does not work, playing music on the HEOS app, it does not work. How you keep trading and selling these receivers is a mystery to me, any other company would have gone out of business with these serious quality issues. As the amount of negative reviews here does not prompt you to do something about it, please send me your bank account I will pay the cost of an app developer as it seems your overpriced systems do not leave you with enough cash. Oh and lastly, do not send me a link to a feedback website, I think I have been clear enough here..Version: 3.0.2

Stress centralGreat amps but totally horrific app. It creates so much stress. It hangs, lags and has a mind of its own. I have an engineering degree and I really struggle with it. This even Ming my iPad newly got sling out of the window as it just hung for minutes and when it eventually woke up not all the functionality worked. When oh when are they going to sort it out?.Version: 3.4.4

Software is crapI find the fact that someone else has same problem with the app not being able to find device is just stupid. It seems if I shut off my WiFi or Bluetooth on my phone it won’t find device later when I want to use it. First time it happened had to delete app reload it which then cause all settings to be gone. Now today that doesn’t work. Tried sending data for them to fix but since the pile of crap app can’t find device can’t answer the first question which won’t let you submit the data logs. Super sweet waste of money..Version: 3.4.4

Still rubbishStill frustrating, doesn’t find unit all the time, AirPlay disconnects and can’t be found again. Up ya game denon, cheap stuff but get what you pay for.Version: 3.7.1

It was bad, now worseWas slow clunky and frustrating to use and frequently failed to find the amp. After latest update it now crashes as soon as I press any button. A joke of an app from Denon which seriously damages a company making such good hardware. AMP is x2600H IOS 13.2 on iphone X Amp firmware latest Can always ping amp but app can’t find it 9 times out of 10. When it does find it touching almost any button crashes App. I also have roomie remote app on the phone which controls amp over IP. That always finds it and always controls it without any problems at all..Version: 3.3.0

Wow - great amp, worst appThis is the first ever one star i review I've given! This app doesn't work. Actually doesn't connect (for the iPad version to). But even the iPad version ... it purely set out, not intuitive etc etc. denon will give what is a great amp/receiver range a bad name unless this is fixed. So what are you waiting for Denon?.Version: 2.0.1

😒No app has ever frustrated me as much as Denon AVR. No app I have ever used has been slower and more prone to failure than Denon AVR..Version: 3.4.1

Buggy to the point of being uselessTakes forever to start on first load. I cannot select my device when it is detected-seems to hang. Debug menu does not even list my AVR-x1600H. I have the latest firmware from yesterday.Version: 3.4.4

Do not download. This app no longer works. Denon has not updated it in a very long time. They clearly don’t care about their customers or the image of their company..Version: 3.7.1

Very frustratingKeeps disconnecting!.Version: 3.0.1

Needs WorkUpdate: The issues I was having previously seen to have been corrected. The app still needs work overall, but it works reasonably well for what it is. This app was doing the job for me until the last update. It wasn’t great, but it did what I needed. With this last update I’ve lost the ability to control the level on subwoofer 2. Subwoofer 1 is there and adjusts fine. Both subs work fine and are both configured in audyssey. I can control the level of both without any problem in the receiver settings. I mostly used the app to change sub and center levels on the fly and change sound modes, so it’s pretty annoying that I can no longer quickly adjust the level as needed..Version: 3.7.0

This app sucksSo I bought the Denon x4500h about 6 months ago and it’s awesome, no notes. However, after a few weeks my dog ate the remote and I was stuck using this app to control it and it suckkkks. I’m constantly having problems connecting it to my receiver, the interface is difficult to navigate, and it’s connection to other apps like HEOS is shoddy at best. When I do get it to work, it’s only for a few weeks then it refuses to connect to it and I have to troubleshoot the the stupid thing all over again. Did I mention that the chances of Denon actually sending me a replacement remote is about as likely as the second coming of Christ?! Seriously guys your app is awful send me my damn remote so I can stop using it..Version: 3.4.2

UI needs improvementI am using receiver in the basement with master bath speakers connected with zone 2. I want main and zone2 to be independent for selecting sources. I cannot figure out why this app does bot support selection of source for zone 2. Also, i can control audio level limit but cannot seem to control current volume for each zone. It will be good to control which zone is transmitted on Bluetooth..Version: 3.7.1

Very glitchyWhen the app works it works well. However it is a lucky dip if it works on your device. It works fine on my iPhone and iOS but on my wife’s slightly newer iPhone and same iOS it can’t find the AVR at all. Have deleted the app and reinstalled. restarted AVR etc but why it would be discoverable to some devices on the same Network and not on others with no reason for it is unfathomable. Such a shame..Version: 3.4.2

FrustratingNot sure if the app is rubbish or the receiver but getting a reliable connection is impossible. When the app connects, there is rudimentary control and I would give it 4 out of 10, but this seldom happens. Reboots, reconnections to the network eventually gets there. Don’t ever try to use HEOS as that will always mess things up and all this has to start again. Good luck Denon with selling your rebadged HEOS speakers because based on my experience you have no chance..Version: 3.3.3

Sketchy performance thats got worseLots of problems with 3.7 version. Basically does not link up to my Denon AVR S650H. Have to go to the Detect Denon AVR function on the app. Its detects my AVR which I select then the page just freezes. Have disconnected and reconnected to local network, have disconnected and reconnected WIFI, have disconnected power to AVR and reconnected and nothing seems to work. Would be better going back previous version which worked most of the time..Version: 3.7.0
