HEOS for Negative User Reviews

Tracks ScrollingI am using the app with a Marantz PM7000N… and works pretty good. My only issue with this app player is that you cannot scroll through tracks when playing from USB, servers, Airplay… and this should be addressed since is a common feat among players. I would expect the developer to included it in the next update..Version: 1.583.490

No device foundWorked well for about a year, then doesn’t connect saying device not found. Readded the devices, worked well for a few days then same thing again. Not designed for long term use (sigh)..Version: 1.562.280

Terrible app and terrible experience. Don’t buy the speakersI was sold these speakers based on their quality. Unfortunately it’s impossible to tell their quality because the app is utterly terrible. Want to play something from your phone on a speaker... we’ll you have to use the app. And chances are that it will be hard to find and access your existing music library. You need a HEOS account to access half the content, or accounts with other services to access other content. This whole product line needs to be taken out and shot. Unless they’re going to support things like Airplay, they have no place in the market. You can’t even play bog standard radio without a third party account, and with no IFTTT support or time support you can’t use it as an alarm clock. Complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY THE HARDWARE. Denon need to up their game. Add native airplay to the devices, allow playing radio streams without a separate app login, fix the crashes, improve the UX, fix crashes, and more..Version: 1.505.130

App is horribleI’ve had my HEOS bar for a couple of years now. For some reason, despite having a flawless home MESH network, the HEOS bar and subwoofer have trouble staying connected to each other and the network. And the app is so archaic that it really is no help at all. In order to fix the problem you have to physically plug your phone into the sound bar and do a bunch of steps that seems very Y2K. Last night, about 8 hours after the app updated, the HEOS bar started flashing yellow/green and woke us up. I’m assuming this was a software update but now, once again, the app can’t find the speaker! My god is 2020. This stuff should JUST WORK! All in all I would avoid this App and Denon in general. Try Sonos or BlueSound or anything else.....Version: 1.562.280

UselessJust purchased a Denon 550 sound bar the user guide for which instructs me to download the HEOS app in order to connect it to my tv. App downloaded, set up commenced. But the app ‘can’t find’ the device. That’s odd, because it’s right there in front of me with a solid blue light on the front - indicating it’s connected to the WiFi. And yes that’s the very same WiFi the app is using. Having wasted 40 odd minutes trying to get the app to recognise a device some two feet away I’ve given up and simply connected to sound bar to the tv via the arc input (yes, you don’t need a sodding app to connect the sound bar, you can do it in around five seconds via the arc input and an hdmi cable). Of course, I haven’t got the faintest idea whether I’m getting (for instance) Dolby Atmos playback as the app will show that and Denon, in their wisdom, have not facilitated the sound bar to show the playback mode. Overall, something that could have been so very simple and easy is rendered difficult/ impossible by an unnecessary app..Version: 2.1.840

Slow and clunkyDoes what it says on the tin, but lacks basic features. Can't seek through tracks on USB..Version: 2.71.410

It doesn’t workI have spent almost £3000 on a full speaker system throughout the house. It worked for a few days and then just stopped playing. I have deleted and reloaded the app multiple times. I can see all my music and sources and it says that it is playing but the speakers are all silent. It also can no longer group rooms. “The rooms cannot be grouped”. I am not a techie and I have spent more time on this than should be needed but despite everything it just will not work..Version: 1.481.160

Still a little odd.App still lags in response to volume controls, also not as fine control, I use the vol controls in app or on lock screen The need to go into sub menus for favourites.. they should be on top Eq controls are too many layers deep, it would be nice to have them available on top Eq setting just bass and treble.. can’t they be split better or is it just the two drivers... Better than last version Also does not grab all audio ,, you have to go to Bluetooth as well, silly, It would be nice to have the app drive your Bluetooth when not using HEOS spkr..Version: 1.562.200

I can’t tell a lie…. I wouldn’t buy.I have an SR7010. This unit has nothing to do with Heos. Except that when the most recent app update for the nearly useless Marantz app I normally use came out, everything stopped working and it told me to download this app…. and provided me a nice link to the Google Play store (from my iPad app). ..before erroring out while trying to send the error report. This is just the latest trend in a long line of disappointments to audio amateurs whom have mistakenly purchased a Marantz product. Maybe you should return what you bought and find a company that understands the ways the world started shifting from copper and capacitance to silicon and streaming..Version: 1.583.490

Utterly uselessUnless you speak fluent geek, after an hour or so you you will get sick of trying different ways to get round the repeated “computer says no” which in effect is all this does. Found a network, password accepted, won’t connect. Connect to alternative network but it is unable to find the music server. Try “music from this iPad” - no such luck, it can’t find any. What a useless pile of software trash. I would give it 0 stars if that was possible..Version: 2.41.140

Amazing speakers let down by a terrible appHEOS 7, bar and sub setup sounds AMAZING. Such a shame that the app is missing some basic functionality and has a rubbish workflow. I would not by recommend or buy again due to constant dropouts (even with mesh wifi) and terrible app. Would have expected some more updates by now..Version: 1.544.240

Marantz7011 w HEOS app recent problemSince the latest update, my Marantz will literally turn on without guidance and HEOS will play music online. This just started happening, it’s the most confusing and haunting thing all at the same time.. Imagine walking into your home with your music on when no one is home... This morning at 5am once again it decided to just switch on, wonderful timing.. This has happened 4 times in the last week, no clue, however I have narrowed it down to something within this application. Please work on an update HEOS to fix this! I’ve been using this application and the Marantz app for the last 3 years with livable issues, this is not one of them..Version: 1.544.150

Not ideal for TVI primarily use this for watching tv, movies etc through their soundbar and use another product for music. The sound from the device is fantastic, no issues there. The app could be easier to use though. I always have to unlock my phone and go into the app if I want to change any settings, including volume. A lock screen function would be useful. Also, the EQ settings when using the tv are hidden away instead of being on the same screen as the main one with the volume control etc. Not a bad app and a few tweaks would make it even better.Version: 1.430.180

Frustrating and disappointedThis app continually fails to perform. Regular glitches and interruptions to playback. Logs you out of your account and then keeps throwing up error codes and time out messages when trying to sign back in. Unable to stream music on occasions due to being signed out of HEOS account. Good money spent on Denon DNP - 800NE and having to play music from usb drive plugged into front of unit. Very disappointed and frustrated..Version: 2.1.680

Great sound. Poor appI purchased a Denon HEOS soundbar and two HEOS 1 hs2 speakers to provide a wireless solution for both music streaming and TV. The quality of the sound when streaming music is brilliant. Easily comparable or better than SONOS imo. However, watching movies and trying to group speakers to creat a ‘surround’ experience is a nightmare! Constant audio dropouts (which I originally thought was a WiFi problem) and clunky, poorly conceived app cause the two HEOS 1’s to be redundant when watching TV or Films. To be fair, their support have highlighted this as a ‘known issue’ and ‘hope’ to have this resolved with the next update. Sadly I have no idea when this update will happen. So my HEOS 1’s are expensive ornaments unless I am streaming music. This was not exactly the experience that I was expecting when I purchased the system. Denon really need to pull their finger out and resolve this as I cannot use the speakers for their intended purpose. In summary, great speakers, amazing sound, don’t bother trying to create a surround system for TV, appalling software..Version: 1.442.220

Re Could be BetterThanks so much for your review, I’ve just switched to a new EE hub router and it keeps losing contact when my iPhone or iPad changes from 2.4 to 5ghz. I’ve spent hours trying to get it to work only to find myself back to square one. Had to turn off the 2.4 signal on my WiFi extender and it seems to be working, fingers crossed. David W.Version: 1.544.150

Broken againThey broke it again - for a few weeks it was sormewhat usable. Now it does not connect reliably to my Denon AVR-2500H. After a few retries it occasionally connects. Then, playing from USB, track selection or skipping generally does not work - but sometimes does; and some tries it says it cannot play the track- a track that played okay in the past. Rant: Denon apparently uses paying customers as involuntary beta testers. I bought this equipment under the expectation that it would work as expected. Yet most firmware updates are broken in some significant way. I will never again purchase any Denon product that contains updatable firmware - that are not competent maintainers..Version: 2.98.130

PainfulAs a command centre for my CEOL device this app is simply awful. No thought seems to have gone in to usability at all. No single pane of glass to control your system and clunky navigation across the board makes it hate my device, which I’m sure it’s not the intent. For starters just give us a single pane to show what’s playing and proper controls of playlist plus quick selection of favourites and inputs without having to navigate in and out of menus. Design brief: once opening the app and sitting down to listen music design this to let you control everything you may want to do while listening from *one screen* as if it was a panel on the device..Version: 2.1.840

Interface needs workUsing for Amazon music to get the best quality stream. Quality is at the best available. I can not get the same stream quality with the Nvidia shield app or even the Amazon fire stick. The problem is the HEOS interface is basic. I can not build a playlist. Does not show previous tracks. Needs better support for Amazon Music!.Version: 2.1.680

Apple MusicHow many years do we have to wait until Apple Music is as integrated as Sonos has? When will Apple Music be as easy to use in HEOS as Spotify? The only thing keeping this app alive is it’s married to superior hardware. Otherwise.....Version: 1.520.200

Not the best.User expérience is not the best. I would prefer to be able to use the tidal or Spotify platform and send it to Heos through the native apps. Not to mention the intermittent bugs. But it works..Version: 2.1.680

Ok app - it can be improvedSome music apps are integrated direct and don’t require Bluetooth and drain your device battery (eg Spotify and SiriusXM). But you are out of luck if you use Apple Music or YouTube Music - which is a miss. Also no support with Apple Watch - which these days should be table stakes. If you want to compete with Sonos - need to spend some development $$s and improve the app..Version: 2.71.410

Unable to open appDownloaded the app on my iPhone XS but every time I try to open the app, it would just close. Am using most updated version. Would appreciate to be able to connect my phone to my speakers....Version: 1.466.240

UselessHave spent half an hour trying to set up a pair of HEOS speakers on my wifi network with this app on my iPhone. Keep being told to move closer but even down to 10cm from the speaker the app won't detect it. Then told to use the cable; I didn't get wifi speakers to connect via a cable. Bluetooth connection doesn't work either - the speakers don't show up on my iPhone. Seems I now have two expensive bookends! Get a Homepod instead..Version: 1.520.200

Need Full User Interface rebuildTrying to Add Favorite Chains tune-in in the favorite list, getting 1 « room » and 1 channel. Impossible to Add any value. Impossible to Make this work with the Denon AVR S660H. Possible I am THÉ PROBLEM unfortunately, I am an IT support person fixing issues, Supporting People with Multiple APplications, Multiple tool and PC. But this is FAR from USER FRIENDLY..Version: 2.71.510

Just okay. The functionality of choosing which speakers and system works great, and it’s nice to have one app that gets your streaming services all in one place...BUT, in this day and age it is simply unacceptable to have such a poor interface. The search functionality of Tidal is so freaking bad they should be ashamed of themselves. If you don’t spell the name of the artist or song perfectly, the search won’t recognize what you’re looking for. In this day and age that is just completely unacceptable. That technology is almost 30 years old at this point and HEOS couldn’t bother to put it in their app. Also the way the song queue works is a mess. It’s great to use the app from your phone to control your system but the HEOS app is a mess. Had I known how lame it was I might have chosen a different receiver. HEOS needs.Version: 1.583.490

Display not workingSince the latest update…I no longer have my 4700 receiver displaying the station I am currently listening to while using the app…..Version: 2.1.561

Clunky awkward login and controlThis app is medium and clunky. I find that it keeps trying to play stuff and my Marantz receivers(1 and 2 year old models) keep trying to play tracks after I have paused them and switched to a different input (cable etc). It takes a few tries and settles down. Navigating a larger collection of music on my server is tedious and has yet another way of selecting favorites and playlists. Playing higher resolution music is nice but there is not much info if it can’t play a format other than skipping the tracks and sometime giving me message. Some formats won’t play on this app but play fine when played directly on the device. You cannot manage much on the receivers since it only looks at a subset of features on them. Sometimes it finds the receivers, other times it is searching for them. Since there is no web log in it is very hard to find your password and it’s unclear what benefit I get from logging in to the system. It can be made into a nice app, but it is primitive and unintegratrd at this time. Since the company owns all of the receivers they should be much more tightly integrated that they are. Sonos is a good model to copy..Version: 1.583.431

HEOS crashesCrashes all the time since I did the update. Can no longer use.Version: 2.1.561

No Apple Music supportNo AirPlay support for HEOS Hs3 speakers, no Apple Music support via the HEOS app. Really clunky user interface that has no ability to search your own library on your iPhone. Very amateurish app, that only does half the job. Never been able to get it working properly. Poorly thought out and poor implemented. Definitely regret changing from my old Yamaha setup. Utter junk..Version: 2.41.140

Sound Bar problemsIt is rare to switch on my TV and for the sound to work immediately. I find each time I have to reset the broadband and turn off my tv until it has restarted. Sometimes this doesn’t fix it first time so I have to repeat several times. Very, very frustrating. I daren’t leave friends or family to look after the house without giving comprehensive notes on how to get sound out of the TV. I’ve very patient over the last year, because when it works, it’s is fantastic. But seriously I don’t expect to have to keep doing this to a very expensive system. I am about to give it all up for something more reliable..Version: 1.466.200

WonkyWell, when it works it’s great. I’ve a Denon HEOS AVR and the app works with that each and every time, maybe because it’s hardwired to my network. I also have two HEOS 3 HS2 speakers (which sound amazing) stereo paired in the kitchen, and with them, the app is just plain finicky, but they are WiFi connected to my network. The connection is solid so I doubt that it’s a connection issue that sometimes causes various problems, such as dropping a speaker, failure to play from one of the in app streaming providers after having connected to the service, and in the case of my wife’s app, random crashes. This is after having deleted and reinstalled the app, reconnecting and configuring the speakers, resetting the app controller and standing on one foot while swinging my black-cat-mojo-bone in a brown paper bag over my head. Anyway, I look forward to future updates resolving these issues, and when that happens, it will be a five star app..Version: 1.520.320

Skiping tracks randomlyWhen i play deezer it skip tracks after 15sec of playing, unable to listen any track.Version: 2.1.680

Countless updates on and still same issuesIt’s been nearly 5 months now since I’ve been using this app with a Marantz PM7000N and countless software and firmware updates on the basic functionality of streaming through Bluetooth is still utter rubbish! The connection is unstable with repeated clicky sounds throughout listening, the volume control is just a nightmare in that, if controlled from the phone, the jumps are too high on each press and all of sudden the amp goes from quiet to a loud volume. Wish the volume control through the phone was more granular, not allowing volume jumps from 13% to 31% in one go. Also, if you manually adjust the volume slider in the Heos app, to let’s say 20% as an example, it will reset itself to 11 after a while. Poor app for a streamer like the PM7000N unfortunately..Version: 1.583.490

Version: 2.98.130

Unstable AppApp keeps dropping my devices and cannot re connect. Music Shares are dropped and cannot be reconnected. Have tried deleting the app and reinstalling, resetting the app without success. Have sent two emails to the support site and no reply. Phone message left as well, call not returned. Cannot recommend this app at all..Version: 1.520.140

Terrible appThe sound bar and heos 1 I bought were great. The app to drive them is complete garbage. Not intuitive, not easy to navigate or setup. I can’t get ARC to setup on my tv. I took it back to the store and they couldn’t get it to work. Even when trying to use their stock, they had to test in three tv’s before they could get Arc. I also don’t understand why I can’t drive music straight from iPhone music. Why do I need the app. Multi device setup, why can’t I setup profiles? Sometimes I want the rooms in sync and other times I want them separate. I don’t want t o have to drag and drop all the speakers every time. Whey aren’t there more profiles for equaliser settings? For the cost of the speakers I would expect the application that drives it to be far better than this. I was shocked at how poor the app was..Version: 1.493.170

HEOS flaws to control the ND8006-PM8006 pairHEOS miss one important opportunity: making the duo PM/ND8006 operate as one integrated device. I explain: while you can turn both devices on using the HEOS app, you cannot do that in one click. That’s a shame. The switch to turn the amp (PM8006) on is almost hidden in the “music” session of the app! Also, because of that, when you connect Alexa to HEOS, you cannot turn the streamer and the amp with one command. That’s frustrating, it seems an easy fix. Marantz, please fix that and let us enjoy the full integration of our wonderful audio system (PM+ND) with simple voice or app commands. Update: I need to add that this is a highly unstable app. It crashes often and is often left “hanging” without connection. When is Denon/Marantz going to finally pay attention to the app????? I hate to have exceptional sound and horrible user experience..Version: 1.562.200

Latest update disables all speakersMy house has gone silent. Latest update means nothing plays. The app shows volume changing and speakers going on and off, but nothing is actually making a sound..Version: 2.47.470

Great sounding speakers ruined by buggy appI’ve had my HEOS speakers for a while and they’re great individually and work well with various music services. Unfortunately this app fails at least 3 times out of 5 to connect to all my speakers, fails to group speakers to have music throughout the house, etc. it is such a shame. All I want is to be able to reliably group my speakers according to the situation and I don’t think there’s an alternative to this app. I keep hoping that a new version will address the bugginess but it doesn’t. Too late to swap to Sonos now I guess 🙁.Version: 1.505.130

ProblemSince last update, I am only able to play one speaker at a time. The grouping feature does not work anymore. After checking with the store where I bought my speakers (Denon home 250 and 350) This problem has been noted by many users. Please fix this ASAP, maybe push the old software version for an update while you figure it out..Version: 2.71.410

Apple Music support neededYears and years with no native Apple Music support. And no clear response as to when or even if you are working on this..Version: 2.1.561

No playlistsMy playlists not showing on Amazon Music..Version: 2.47.190

RubbishThe app is full of bugs the equipment is so dated that it can’t work with the app - basically Denon has gone down the pan - after many years with there equipment it’s time to move away and find some new branded speakers without the stress of just trying to play music I want to just play music and not spend hours trying to get the equipment to work with the app - update after update has just made things worse every time..Version: 2.98.130

It just doesn’t workI went with HEOS as an alternative to Sonos on the basis that you get more amp for your money with Denon. Whilst that is almost certainly true, the HEOS app is a terrible mess - frequent glitches, music just stops playing, you try and skip a track and have to hard quit and restart the app - it’s an endless procession of crummy little faults that continually interrupt your music listening. Unfortunately the unstable app underpins everything HEOS is supposed to do, rendering it irritating and distracting rather than a pleasurable experience. Sonos costs more and you get less audio product for your money, but their app and operating environment actually work, a claim that HEOS is s very long way away from being able to make. This is a flakey disaster of an app, that’s even worse after the most recent update. They don’t bother answering their tech support tickets, so you’re on your own there too. This is one to avoid if you like your music and radio without constant annoying bugs, restarts and asides into tech support Hell..Version: 1.430.180

UselessNever buy a speaker without a remote. Thought it would be a good idea but it is NOT!! Forever losing Wi-fi and takes an age to adjust the volume as you have to access the app, then wait for it to pick up the signal, then eventually adjust volume. Takes about 30 seconds to do this which is a pain when the phone rings. Had it about 15 months and goes nuts about every 2 weeks on average. Never again, which is a shame as when it’s working it’s a good sound system, but a gamble every time you turn on the TV.Version: 1.442.220

TerribleI bought a Denon AVR-X3400H which has built in HEOS (you can’t connect manually to set up). My wife has an IPad 1 which whilst finds the Amp won’t connect, the app wants to connect a cable but as stated above this is not an option so basically not compatible. I own Ipad 2 which did work but now for for some unknown reason doesn’t! That said even when it did work there’s a lack of features - no search option, no shuffle, no rewind or fast forward. Plus some songs in library are missing? I contacted support regarding Ipad 1 & they suggested turning off mobile data but not an option as it’s not a 3G ipad (there is no mobile option). Poor app, glad it was free, doesn’t work..Version: 1.430.180

AwfulThis is the 2nd unit I’ve had as the first one was faulty. This unit I was advised by dealer was up to date with software etc. this unit is now giving me grief. When I spoke with technician today he advised software was years out of date even though unit says it’s current. I cannot get to most songs on Tidal as it loses the link. I hate this HEOS and will advise everyone to purchase another brand. Functionality is so prehistoric it’s awful. I’m now using my Oppo to stream Tidal as this unit has packed up. I hate this unit with a passion..Version: 2.1.840

Removed features in a recent update. Why have you removed the ability to control my Marantz CD player and Marantz 8006 amplifier. I used to be able to control both (inputs, switching tracks, power to CD player). Now I can only control the power to the amp..Version: 2.47.350

App has issues with Denon Home product line (in my case, a mixture of Home250 and Home350 speakers)Issue 1: poor user interface (UI). This looks like an app that development engineers hacked up to get the system working. UI organization is horrible with many redundancies and non-intuitive paths to what you want to accomplish. I can live with issue 1, but … Issue 2: some units will not upgrade firmware to latest version. They “think” they’re updated but they’re not. As a result, units have different firmware revisions, which breaks your ability to group speakers to, for example, get them all playing the same music. After about 48 hours, the culprit speakers do update to latest firmware, but there’s no apparent way to control this other than leaving it up to the auto update feature and waiting until it does its thing in the background. Issue 3: I’m sure it’s a big challenge to make the app interface well with all the music streaming services out there. The app doesn’t allow for search in Pandora, which is a major pain. The app also doesn’t show or give access to any content on my iPhone..Version: 2.1.562

ShameOnly have 2 words to say… Youtube Music.Version: 2.1.840

It’s a dumb app !The app is hopeless and ruining my HEOS experience. Tells me I need to update .... yet will not complete the update ... I now have resorted to deleting app in the hope the new download comes updated .. have got 2 rear speakers that will not connect on account of the update.... what a shame the sound on the bar and sub is awesome when working ... wife continually complaining on this ..... guys steer clear ... not sure why this rated higher than sonos ... and it frustrating to see positive reviews when there are so many bugs ... come on Denon ... lift !.Version: 1.430.160

Timer please!Love my Heos throughout the house. But since there isn’t a timer/alarm I’m stuck with Sonos in the bedroom. Please Heos I’ve been waiting years for this update..Version: 1.505.130

BuggyI really like the idea and the layout. Sadly, it’s just too ‘buggy’. It keeps crashing or frequent ‘HEOS server unavailable’ messages. It’s a shame as the connection to my amp is rock solid. Another annoying quirk is it skips back a layer too many when browsing music so you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list again…which then usually prompts it to crash. Can an alphabetical listing be put down the side for fast scrolling / searching? It would be really useful..Version: 2.41.140

TerribleIf I was a VP or CEO for Denon, I would be ashamed of how poorly the software inhibits the ability to use the hardware. When I find one failure mode in the SW, I optimistically try a different method to see if that can bypass the bug. When your product is an audio system, the essential performance is to play audio. Unfortunately, there are many times the Denon software (including this app, but also the software on the receiver) simply won’t play music. “Unable to play media” is the common error. Funny that it can throw this error even when I’m trying to play music off a USB flash drive that is directly connected to the receiver and it worked an hour ago! I truly wish I could return all Denon products and start over..Version: 1.505.130

Volume changes without my permissionWould be good to see a patch that fixes the problem of volumes on all the speakers ‘resetting to the same level’ after a day or two of inactivity. The software can remember so much so it needs to also remember not to mess with the volume users have carefully set for their different speakers..Version: 1.583.161

Amazon music integration is poorTrying to play Amazon music is a real chore. I can’t find a way to do it easily..Version: 2.71.270

Hijacks the whole systemIt’s great when it works but often hijacks the whole system and intermittently kills the sound when just watching TV. It also switches randomly to other inputs. We know this is the culprit as when we delete the app (off all devices which is annoying) and sign out completely and sign back in..it seems to work. My husband has nostalgia for the brand as it was his first stereo and he thinks the sound is nice. But to come out with an app to compete without being functional is irresponsible. There is nothing worse than having company over, music on and your stereo decides it has other plans. Or watching a movie and it decides its will switch to a different input. I went to the App Store to make sure we weren’t missing an update. Sadly over and over not the case. I am not one for reviews but hope you can use this to get the resources needed to fix these major glitches..Version: 1.544.150

Doesn’t work🚫.Version: 2.1.680

Regretful purchaseWhen you can finally get the speaker connected the sound is good. But the app is so buggy that it’s impossible to do simple things like play an audiobook from your phone through the speaker, either through the wifi or bluetooth options. Actually, through wifi it is impossible and the Bluetooth connection is always dropping out. Really regret purchasing this to be honest..Version: 1.544.240

Wasted potentialHEOS has/had so much potential from design and hardware point of view. However, software support is seriously lacking. On a paper, HEOS has HiRes support, various input options including Bluetooth, aux in, USB, airplay etc, extensive lineup with AVRs, many standard support DTS etc. However, no Roon support, no Apple Music, AirPlay didn’t get added to expensive Heosbar nor on second gen HEOS speakers. Denon is now releasing Denon home series and therefore trying to get into smart speaker market. This is a great move from hardware perspective to add another device on their extensive line up. But they seem to be always years after SONOS. The biggest issue and trend here is; however, the lack of support on existing customers from software stand point of view. App has looked the same despite all the negativity its receiving on online reviews. Even now still no support on major stream service like Apple Music. I believe Sonos devices retain relative values because each device sees upgrade via software and firmware. Please make App better, more professional looking and easier navigation, and most importantly speed up software update process e.g. Apple Music Support..Version: 1.520.320

FrustratedVery confusing app to use, rates poorly in my book! Technical videos on the internet is hopeless as!!!.Version: 1.466.240

No Qobuz supportI downloaded this in preparation for purchasing a Marantz 30n. As the streaming service I use is Qobuz, I’m disappointed to find there is no support for it. I’ll be holding off on my purchase until this changes..Version: 2.98.130

Worst and most unnecessary app everHonestly, denon, what were you smoking when you guys thought this was a suitable app for discovering and playing music. Unless you have your playlists setup perfectly don’t bother. The search function on this app couldn’t find something even if it were rubbing up against the song it was looking for, and it would still suggest something else entirely. The worst thing is they’ve capped it so it can only do any remotely high res stuff through the app..Version: 1.583.490

Class action required. Does not work as advertisedThere should be a class action against Denon for selling a product that simply does not do what it is advertised to do. Can’t seamlessly stream music. Can’t group rooms. Can’t listen to apps like TuneIn without their stupid intermittent ads. Can’t stream a play list for your phone with greater than 130 songs. The only thing this product is good for is the bin. I’m sure it’s against Australian Consumer Law to sell a product that does not do as advertised, it’s called “false advertising”..Version: 1.520.200

Improvement neededThere is really no way just to choose an album and just listening too it, you need to queue the songs first… one by one. Your better off using a music streaming app like Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, etc.Version: 1.583.490

Please Work On Tidal IntegrationThere are quite a few annoying things, however the biggest is not being able to see what is censored or not. You show both albums when looking at an artist but I can’t differentiate them. As an adult I don’t want to listen to a song and hear it censored and have to go and find the artist again, and play the other album. I would also like to see if something is master quality, basically... it would be nice if by using tidal through your app It was just like the tidal app.Version: 1.562.280

Hopefully it will play all my songsIt’s not the easiest to get ahold of customer service, but when you do it is helpful. The one thing that I am hoping they will fix: the 300 song limit in the queue. I have around 7000 songs on a hard drive that is shared on HEOS. I like to be able to randomly play from all 7000, but that doesn’t seem possible. Or even if it could randomly select 300 of those 7000 (it’s not like i ever listen to that many, i just like to hear random songs from my entire collection) to add to the playlist, that would work too..Version: 1.481.130

WORST...APP...EVER....IN THE HISTORY OF APPSSelected Denon over Sonos because the speakers have a lot of ways to connect music. All supposed experts reviews I read wrote that the Sonos speakers sounded better specially in large spaces. My space is not that big and I already had a Denon receiver so it made sense that I would just buy HEOS speakers to pair them along. Have a HEOS 1, 2, and 7. When the speakers emit sound they are great. Rich and profound sound comes out of them. The problem, and I’ve should have listen to the different blogs on the internet is the App. I feel like I am back at 1989 trying endlessly for any basic computer application to work. It’s insane the amount of time to pair the speakers, the countless times speakers do not appear, the countless times the speakers do not pair. I have probably one of the best internet connections ever but that’s not it. Unfortunately, Denon has applied all of their research and resources into sound quality but have not figure out that is 2019 when it comes to connectivity and wireless applications. If you want a one off speaker that sounds great, HEOS are excellent, if you want a cohesive sound system all over your house, don’t make the same mistake I did. This is not the system you want..Version: 1.505.130

It’s got worse...6 months ago it was simple enough to use but now if the phone rings whilst your playing music everything stops and it doesn’t like reconnecting to play again. Plus, the format of the room grouping has changed so you can’t lower the volume across all the rooms simultaneously any more, as the stupid tick box makes you choose one of the group each time. Stop tinkering for the sake of it please! The denon hardware is fantastic but the app is not good....Version: 1.454.230

Flaky AppWhen it work it’s not too bad, but all too often when I get home I open up the app and it doesn’t see the speakers. I constantly need to turn the speakers off and on to get the app to recognise the speaker. Really wanted these speakers throughout the house as they have a great sound quality, but may have to cut my losses and purchase a Sonos system instead..Version: 1.493.170

HEOS AppThe most painful thing about using my system is the app. Often we have gone with the system turned off because it’s less hassle than the stress on getting stuff to work through app and syncing..Version: 1.544.150

Great sad sound, appalling appGood sound when the speaker actually works. Almost never connects properly and the app is completely unreliable when trying to play from music apps. Can’t even simply connect and play using the lightning cable in a reliable way. Mostly just an attractive paperweight.Version: 1.544.150

Not fit for purposeI bought a Denon 3500 AVR amp and I am a loyal Denon user of many years. I was tempted to go with Sonos for our new home but my loyalty to Denon kept me with them. The receiver is great however, this app, the other Denon app that you also need and the software on the receiver are hopeless. I ha w only used it for 6 weeks and I am having to reset the network every day. I run HEOS on a brand new mesh network and it doesn’t work. Even if I run it directly through my Virgin router the problems persist and are plentiful. This app may not be at fault here as resetting the network settings on the amp seems to fix most problems. That obviously didn’t make the situation any better it’s just hugely disappointing for and annoying to spend this kind of money on gear that isn’t really fit for purpose..Version: 1.562.280

Not for for purposeIt’s such a shame this app is so woeful as the speakers sound beautiful. The volume control is by far the worst aspect - the number of times I’ve tried to adjust the volume of a quiet song when my baby is asleep upstairs and the app interprets a “reduce volume” command as a “turn to max volume”. I’m now (understandably) not allowed to use HEOS after 7pm because it will, at some point, turn itself to max volume and wake up my kids and those of my neighbours. It is so surprising that these bugs haven’t been resolved; this isn’t a new product. I guess Denon has other priorities - it is most certainly not investing in its HEOS offering. And after two years of ownership, I suspect they never will..Version: 1.505.130

GARBAGE. App needs to be reconstructed.Poorly designed app. This new update does not fix the critical issues at hand. Spotify section just takes you to the Spotify app whereas other music options are directly integrated to eliminate the skipping and other issues with streaming music over Bluetooth / AirPlay…defeats the whole purpose of this app! You’d think if you invested so much money into high quality audio gear that the app would be half decent. Instead it’s a pain to navigate. Search doesn’t always display the results vs if I search in Tidal or SoundCloud. SoundCloud often doesn’t connect. GARBAGE APP. Please fix. I’ve used other apps for Sonos and other speaker software and they are much better than this trashy, buggy app..Version: 2.1.561

Not the solution for listening to your hires musicThe reason I have a HEOS system - it came with my Amp. The reason to use HEOS over a multi-room system like Sonos - Hires support for those high-bitrate streams and downloads. And yes, HEOS does the job if you have hires audio and sounds fantastic and all that. But the controller app is pretty horrible. Confusing when all you want to do is browse to some music on a hard drive and start listening. Frequently can’t find (or forgets) where my NAS is. Queue management defaults to inserting today’s selection in the middle of yesterday’s listening. Artwork is defiantly low-resolution. Honestly, you’re better setting up downconverting any 24/96 downloads so they work on Sonos then wrestling with this piece of junk..Version: 2.98.130

I’m now left empty insideThe gf went shopping after we suggested getting a sonos and came home with a HEOS! This app is rubbish along with the heap of junk it connects with. I no longer like listening to music as it creates to much anxiety and argument waiting to see if the stupid thing will work. ‘Want to listen to your iTunes on me hey.......nah I’m a HEOS!’.Version: 1.442.220

Constant connection issues!I have spent nearly £2,000 on a sound bar, sub woofer and 2 remote speakers! I find almost impossible to get continuous service via the app! Today it says searching for heos devices and that’s pretty much constant all day today! Restarted router, deleted account, set all back up and still the same problem! Music randomly turns off! It really is ridiculous having spent so much money! It’s a shame as when it does work the sound is amazing! Having now read all the other reviews it seems a hopeless ask to get any reasonable help here! Sorry but anyone thinking of a Denon and HEOS system I’d avoid at all costs it’s just way to much hassle! I’ve got a £150 sub and sound bar that performs better in terms of actually working!.Version: 1.481.160

Terrible appDo not waste your time and money with HEOS. The app keep “losing” the speaker and then you have to rejoin them. I have had this problem for well over a year and it never gets better. I bought one speaker with the intention of adding more in the future, but with the problems I did not and will not purchase any more. The speaker sounds great when you are finally able to get everything connected. Initially I was deciding between HEOS and So*os and went with Denon based on their reputation, sound, and quality of other components I own. I regret my decision now and wish I had went with the other one. I am now left with a speaker that is not good for much else than a paperweight. I would rate this app in the negatives if allowed. Denon, you have lost a loyal customer..Version: 1.442.220

An abominable appI absolutely hate having to use this pile of trash. It has a user interface straight from the 1980s, it keeps logging me out, and the tidal interface is horrible. And it’s not like there aren’t plenty of examples of apps that do the same thing but far better, this is just inexcusable, especially given the high quality of the hardware it’s interfacing with..Version: 2.47.350

App is ok but my HEOS 7 speaker notIt hangs, freezes, some buttons stop working. PLAY, PAUSE and STOP - you can press but nothing happens. Bluetooth delay from TV - cannot watch, aux output once set it changes by itself and have to set app to set it again..Version: 2.71.270

Ok at timesMy HEOS system only uses 2.4 ghz WiFi and I’ve even replaced the router to a dedicated 2.4ghz router. While that helped some it takes a minute or two for the system to sync and then it’s ok. I still have the frequent issue of speakers dropping off and needing to be reconnected. Sometimes this is accomplished by simply pressing the connect button on the affected speaker while other times I have to disconnect and reconnect power to the affected speaker. Overall the system is “ok at times”. I’ve had this setup (HEOS 3 (2ea.), HEOS 5 (1ea.) & HEOS 7 (2ea.)) for 6 years and I’m hesitant to upgrade as it’s a pricey setup especially when considering the frequent connectivity issues..Version: 2.47.280

TidalDoesn’t show difference between masters tracks and standard tracks in Tidal Does not interface well with Tidal.Version: 2.1.680

Major bug in new app updateThe is a major bug in the new app update that does not allow songs to be played past the first minute or so when playing from songs that are stored on a phone. Can this please be looked into ASAP.Version: 2.1.561

The app is okay but.I wish it would work like a cd player or any other streamer. Say select track from an album and play continuously from that point but it doesn't. You have to cue a full album and skip through to the track you want and then it will continuous play from there. Select a track to play and Heos app will play that one track from an album and stop, unless there's other tracks which have been cued to play before hand in the past and haven't been cleared and it will start playing them. Wish it would just play(stream) like a cd player. select album, select track and continuous okay from there but did doesn't..Version: 1.544.240

Not working with SpotifyIntermittent sound from all wireless speakers while using Spotify..Version: 2.47.350

It just doesn’t workI too have found the Heos app a frustrating experience. Have had mine for a week and after the latest update it cannot even connect to the Heos network thereby cutting off access to all online music services. You raise a ticket with their support but they clearly don’t have a clue how to fix it. Will be returning all of my Denon equipment soon if this is as good as it gets while things are still brand new..Version: 1.493.170

No Apple MusicNo Apple Music. Not good for me, so disappointed.Version: 2.1.840

Looks out of dateHave been using HEOS for over two years. In all that time the quirky instability (devices often not showing when app is opened) hasn’t improved, plus there are no new connections to other apps or any new features (still doesn’t have a sleep timer). Feels abandoned by the app’s developers..Version: 1.520.320

Half bakedThe HEOS setup basically works, but has several flaws. Despite having Bluetooth, I am required to hook my mobile device up to the HEOS speaker using a custom cable. Guess I better not ever loose that or I won’t be able to set my speaker up again. Secondly, the app wants to name the HEOS devices by room name. For those of us who have other smart devices, a basic room name isn’t specific enough, and conflicts when trying to pair with the Alexa skill. I have several smart plugs already grouped under “Living Room.” What I need is to name my receiver “Receiver” and my remote speakers “Speaker 1,” “Speaker 2,” etc. The app should give us the ability to customize the names..Version: 1.520.320

DisgruntThe last update ruined this app for me..Version: 2.71.410

App stops playing music when phone sleepsAfter last update (2021-Oct-01), app stops playing music when phone sleeps. Very frustrating. Only fix was to turn off auto-lock..Version: 2.1.561

Adding DevicesAdding devices seems near impossible! Trying to add HEOS 7 Speaker along with the 5 others I own and cannot get past the part where it says “Using this IPhone we will now setup your Heos7” - even if I select another method it just sits on that screen!!.Version: 2.47.350

The app isn’t too good, lets the speakers downThis is a revised review…third time I’ve done so, i think. I’ve had a few little issues with the speakers over tthe years, well, the app really. The speakers seem fine, good actually, but the app has been glitchy and annoying. A year or two ago my preferred radio station stoped working with tune in. I randomly decided to try it again a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s working again, which is awesome! Technically, i am back to being pretty happy with what i have, but the issues that have come and gone, connectivity fails and a clunky interface primarily, have been a bit frustrating. The speakers are good though!.Version: 2.71.510

Huh!!What’s happened to all the many selections of streaming radio stations? It’s like they’ve got rid of the majority of stations over the years, or the Tune In app is not playing them. When I first got this equipment it was a pleasure to know that I had such a wide range of streaming channels to choose from. Most of the Gospel channels are now gone, also loads of streaming channels are gone over the different genres in general, even the electronic section.. what’s happened to all the Drum N Bass channels and even the many Garage channels you had? It’s so disappointing to see how empty the Tune in app is when working with the HEOS system. It seems like about 70% of the streaming channels have been removed from the HEOS/Tune in app. Even the Chillout/ Ambient section has gone weak with the amount of channels removed. I ask you plz bring them back and I’ll be happy again. 😌.Version: 2.47.280

Awful! ... just a terrible appSomething broken every update. Latest update breaks the track indicator function. Album tracks play by name instead of track number if more than 13 tracks on an album. Forget about trying to play properly tagged double album. Also don’t bother using the Help > Report an Issue link in the app. Your issue will be ignored. Avoid at all costs. Never again Denon/Heos.Version: 1.562.200

Not workingThe app is not working anymore since i updated the app for my AVR Denon S750H. Any help for this?.Version: 2.1.680

Such great sound but the software lets the speaker downI’ve had my HEOS speakers for circa 3 to 4 years. I have two HEOS 1 (portable) speakers and a soundbar. The sound on the system is great and the little HEOS 1 speakers are great. The battery last for ages too, but the software is absolutely terrible. I am forever not having one or two of the speakers appear in the app. Having to disconnect and reconnect. When you want support it is only during business hours, so you effectively have to have a morning off to get your system working....hopefully! It is also rare that you can actually group all 3 speakers together, which they are supposed to do. I had hoped updates would solve the problems but after a few years now, they clearly haven’t. It’s a shame as the speakers sound quality is great!.Version: 1.544.150

Poorly Programmed. IncompatibleBought a $1000 Denon receiver on the advice of some of my more tech savvy friends. The receiver isn’t the most exquisitely designed piece of technology but it works for what it’s supposed to do. Except work with HEOS. It’s a big selling point, it’s even branded on the receiver. The step by step instructions in the HEOS app were inadequate to get the app to recognize a receiver from a phone with both already connected on the same WiFi. Tried trouble shooting for hours and the stupid app can’t find the receiver. Called my tech friends over to help and it looks like the app just doesn’t work with my receiver. The receiver works for literally everything else I wanted for. I think the app is just not very well made..Version: 1.466.240

Great When It Works (but buggy)I bought a new Denon receiver last December at least in part because the updated technology allows me to play music via WiFi connection from my phone and iPad. The software enabling this functionality (HEOS) works well for most of my music, but I have experienced increasing issues with the app being “unable to play” media from my wireless devices. It’s ironic because the app stops working in the middle of songs and then attempts other songs from the same playlist. Clearly not a network connectivity issue. Hope the developers fix the bugs…..Version: 2.1.561

Getting issues with SoundcloudBeen getting a ‘HEOS account server unavailable’ when trying to search for playlists and tracks on Soundcloud via the app.Version: 2.1.561

Heos - just don’tThe unfortunate thing about these speakers is that the concept is good if you could just connect to them reliably. However the software limitations make them useless. Regular drop outs, disconnects etc along with a practically unusable app interface regrettably has me looking for non wifi speakers for streaming audio. No ability to cast to them. Cannot connect with any other software, programs or desktop media streamer except through an app that fundamentally does not work. Expensive junk!.Version: 1.481.160

PandoraPandora no longer available in New Zealand. Will not work with Apple Music or indeed music stored on my Mac. Do I really have to subscribe to Spotify or some other such thing..Version: 1.421.150

Zero Development - STAY AWAYI’ve owned my speakers for over three years now. During that time, there has been no features added to compete with other wifi speaker systems. The amount of music platforms is very minimal, there is no crossfade option, no sleep timer, no desktop app for your computer, and playing local music from your mobile device is hit or miss. All of these issues are leading me to selling these speakers and moving over to SONOS, who spend time continuously developing their platform for their customers. There are so many music services available on SONOS, including Apple Music and Plex! Sleep timer? No problem! Crossfade to enjoy seamless playback? No problem! Get it together Denon. HEOS is getting blown out out of the water and all you need is a couple developers to fix it..Version: 1.481.160

Sometimes greatI have never had to uninstall and relaunch any other app as much as this one. It used to work fine and then about 6 months ago we have started to not be able to see the HEOS speakers on the app reliably. It works intermittently and the bugs are not fixed. I think the developers have been concentrating on other app and let this one start to implode. If anything, it’s been getting worse..Version: 1.481.130

Heos vs SpotifyI have two Denon 350 bought in 2022 and using them with Spotify. Heos, the app that manages my Denon, prevents my Sootify music from playong on my speakers. I have to reset constantly..Version: 2.98.130

HEOS App Needs a Major Upgrade. We built a new house and did built in speakers in several rooms including surround sound in our basement rec room and outdoor speakers for the pool. I do like the quality of the speakers, but the app needs a major overhaul. The app is tricky to learn, it took quiet awhile for me to catch on to. My husband pretty much refuses to use it. Also, with the last update the app keeps trying to update the speakers, which was just done not long ago. I keep hitting “update tonight” but it overrides my choice and tries to “update now” anyway. Our internet is not the greatest so this is super annoying and prevents me from getting to use the system when I want! Every time I see there is a HEOS app update I hope that it’s a major one. Hopefully it happens sooner than later. We have a $6,000 audio system that should have came with an app that is much better quality than it is..Version: 1.493.170

OKLove the sound of my system, have had for about 5 years. As with all the other reviews, the app is unintuitive and unfriendly c/w Sonos. I wish they would rebuild that side. Eg, Heos, allow the user to move back or forward to a point in the song, rather than Start again or Next. Have been tempted a few times to trade to Sonos but for my laziness..Version: 1.520.140

Quite possibly the worst app everIf this app is intended specifically to infuriate it succeeds spectacularly. Thousands of dollars on Denon hardware wasted because the only way to operate said hardware is via an app clearly designed by blind baboons high on opiates. It’s virtually impossible to connect components to the app - when you do succeed there’s no guarantee at all they’ll remain in the app from minute to minute - randomly disappearing from view for now fathomable reason. It’s also deeply ironic to write a review of the app on the Apple App Store when the app is designed specifically not to support Apple Music..Version: 2.1.680

Great speakers - limited EQ - poor appIt’s like having a Ferrari with no wheels. So much untapped potential They app is pretty easy to navigate once you are used to it Unfortunately the last major update killed speaker grouping - obviously by accident, hope it’s fixed very soon. The EQ is just treble and bass, leaves a lot to be desired. Different rooms require different tuning, bathrooms/toilets especially. The app really needs a minimum 5 band EQ. If I wanted basic super easy average sound I would have gone for Sonos. I went for Denon/HEOS as they are typically geared towards higher sound quality and tuning. Hopefully this will come I do trust the brand will remain true to its heritage It’s just taking longer than expected.Version: 2.1.562

Poor user app RUBBISH EXPERIENCEThis brand really could have done a better job on this app They do silly things and silly things wrong I really wonder did anyone ever trial all aspects of the app It won’t take you long to find something that’s not user friendly Disappointing RUBBISH EXPERIENCE- the speakers constantly disconnect - they then need to repair How on earth can someone design a product which sounds so good but flaws like this ? It’s beyond me If you buy these and use the HEOS app carry your phone or iPod everywhere in your house because you just can’t predict when they will just cease .😩😩.Version: 2.47.190

Always have hiccups. When the sound bar is operational and working well it’s great but it’s always having issues. Unplug it and start again is the usual way of fixing it. It shouldn’t be this difficult. I will never buy another one..Version: 1.520.200

Clunky in places and missing Qobuz integrationApp is easy to use, but is lacking any Qobuz integration which is a right pain. Secondly, it has Tidal in the app but my Marantz player has no native MQA ability so Tidal effectively becomes lossy mp3 streaming not Hi Fi.. so why is Tidal there in the App and Apple Music with its hi res tracks absent? Thirdly, when using an external USB hard drive with my tracks sometimes the app show’s directories in alphabetical order ignoring the track metadata - just weird and irritating. Denon & Marantz are suffering brand damage as this app feels like it’s two years out of date..Version: 2.1.680

Heos App is horrible!!This is the worst music app ever. I have two HEOS 1 Series 2 speakers with go packs that look and sound amazing when they work. The problem is the app. Everytime I use them I have to go into the app and find the devices and reconnect them to Bluetooth. The app will come up and say "searching for devices" but won't find them, even if I am standing right next to them until I do it multiple times. Then I have to go back into Bluetooth and connect to the devices all over again. If you then try linking the two devices to play together which they call "pairing the devices" it takes multiple tries as well. I have to toggle back and forth between Bluetooth trying to connect and the HEOS app trying to pair until they finally work. This takes a minimum of 10 minutes and has to be done everytime you use them. The app doesn't remember anything you have done before and the devices constantly lose Bluetooth connection. The app is also very basic with no real features at all. I have had these for over a year praying for the day that Denon would try to save their reputation by updating this app with a new awesome version. NOT!! Very disappointed in Denon that they don't care enough to put a decent app out there to run an otherwise awesome product. They look good, sound great and the go pack is phenomenal. How could they package this together with such and archaid grade school level app? Go figure?.Version: 1.430.180

Don’t UpgradeUpgraded to the new version 5 days ago and music playback stops either when using other apps on my device, or my device auto locks. Try to restart music but message “unable to play media” appears. In summary upgrade a disaster and there is no way of going back to previous version. Issues logged with Denon (via Heos app) but no response. £1000’s of speakers currently useless. Sonos or HomePod may have been a better option!.Version: 2.1.561

Great, but lacks in music options/playbackI use this app to stream to my Marantz SR7011 AVR and it’s great for playing albums, but if you want to listen to a playlist you’ve created and used on other streaming devices/platforms, you can’t. Nor can you create a playlist on the fly or “add to queue” like so many others can offer with their services. It’s little nuances like this that keep me going back to, and sticking with tried and true, Sonos. Keep trying, Denon/Marantz. Hopefully you figure it all out much sooner than later..Version: 2.1.561

Worst App I have worked withPerhaps this is the worst device I have ever seen, I had problem with connecting the device to the app and wifi. Remote control not connect to the device..Version: 2.1.680

Sign in should not be requiredWhen I first bought HEOS I did not need to sign in to use various online services. Then an update introduced signin requirement - for no benefit to myself. Enough of this garbage to harvest email addresses and monitor user behaviour with tracking, tracing, and privacy invasion..Version: 2.71.270

Why do devices go missing? The app worked fine for a couple of months but now randomly can not find 1,2 or sometimes all 3 of my devices. My wife has the the same app, we are sat next each other, my app can find the soundbar but not the AV. Her app can find the AV but not the soundbar and neither can find the standalone speaker. WHY? Speakers great app is pants so what’s the point of an integrated system if it can’t integrate.Version: 1.583.490

Add amazon music pleaseDespite it saying it works with Alexa it works terrible with it. App alone is very finicky. To add to trouble the only music service i subscribe to is amazon music and of course it doesn’t work well with the app..Version: 1.481.130

FrustratingHave had much difficulty connecting Bluetooth device to Denon amp (AVR-X4500H) - songs skip & cut in/out etc when using Apple Music app, HEOS does seem to solve this issue but when I try to play music through this app it will only show songs downloaded on my device of which most come up with a DRM warning & will not play. User Interface is pretty average too..Version: 1.583.160

Poor UINot much of HEOS user, I just own HEOS 1. Cannot play USB music without my home wifi range. While playing music and iPhone doesn’t even recognise it is playing music, which makes me difficult to change music, I have to unlock and open app then only it will allow me to change or stop music. Poorly designed and developed..Version: 1.481.130

Great sound on Denon 350 but….Disappointing- limited to using wifi access for paid services rather than personal iPhone music Means switching between Bluetooth and wifi with the consequential loss of range. No mention of this restriction Also app is unstable on occasions requiring relaunching.Version: 2.47.350

New version of the app doesn’t workSeems the latest app update (for iOS) has rendered my expensive and beautiful sounding stereo close to useless. HEOS app streams to the HEOS link for a minute or two then stops - when you open the app and try to press play again, it says ‘media cannot be played’ and the app has to be relaunched to get anything working at all, and then has the same problem. Fix it.Version: 2.1.561

Network Shares keep resettingFor the most part the HEOS app works for me. EXCEPT, when it comes to “Network Sharing”. In another room, I have a MacBook Pro, with a music folder setup for network sharing. With the proper PATH to the folder set, the proper computer name in “network bios”, it is seen in the HEOS APP, I let it index. All seems good the first 24 hours, I can play music files via HEOS app, or using the remote. Then the next day, within the HEOS app, the share is no longer seen, instead, in the HEOS preference, is listed an OLD share PATH, one that I already deleted, as I moved the music folder on the Mac serving the share. That old path should have been deleted, but this keeps happening. Now I close HEOS APP, run Heos directly on the Denon 3500, and the proper share works fine, and I’m streaming my shared music. But I can’t do this via this IOS HEOS app. I may try deleting the app, and reinstalling it, but this of course means losing all the saved favorites and setting up the account again, and reindexing a large shared music folder again. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!.Version: 1.481.160

Very crashy since last update. My HEOS crashes all the time now. I’ll start a playlist, lock my iPhone, open the app again in a minute to adjust the volume, and the app has crashed and launches from scratch again. Sure, I can still control the volume, but then when I go to add more songs, it has lost the path on my music server, so I have to navigate back to it all the time. Not the end of the world I realize, but the accumulated effect of having to do this time after time is annoying. Also, it is incredibly laggy when playing CDs on my Marantz ND8006. It barely responds correctly to any volume adjustments, and if I try skipping tracks too many times, it’ll usually crash. I wish I could revert to an older, stable version..Version: 2.71.410

Latest update doesn’t work on IPhonesI can’t believe the latest all updated has made the app totally useless with IPhones and IPads. It doesn’t work, needs to be re set every time you try to use it. How can they get it so wrong? How can a company don’t test their update on apple devices before making it available. I just purchased my Denon amplifier but if the app issue is not fixed ASAP I will be returning the amplifier under warranty issue..Version: 2.1.561

A few issues to fix but goodHave found the app easy to use, connect, and play with only a couple of big issues. If these were fixed it would be an instant improvement: The volume slider is positioned and styled as if it was the track progress/playback bar and takes up a large part of the screen. This is confusing for people and has frequently resulted in the volume being maxed out by people trying to skip through a track when playing, causing the amp to go into protection mode. You don’t want to blow your expensive speakers because of bad UI. The second is the alphabet scroll bar on the right of a library list is buggy and jumps around when trying to select. If this was smooth it would be ok but a search function/bar would be ideal. Tested with iPad and iPhone.Version: 1.583.161

Sort out the order!Listening to opera and musicals on this system sounds great.....but only if like listening to them in alphabetical order and not in the order they are meant to be listened to. Very frustrating..Version: 1.466.200

You want the truth? We installed HEOS on recommendation from our automation man for a home Reno. We wanted simplicity & ease to play our apple music in our 6 zones. However after the installation & significant expense $$$$$ we found out it does support Apple. What a waste.. My wife, being sick of HEOS’s difficultly & restrictions, has now purchased the new apple speaker as a replacement, which was next to nothing compared to HEOS and is brilliant. Our recommendation for the HEOS sound system is... DONT!.Version: 1.481.130

Can be frustratingI find there is a bit of a delay when wanting to skip to the next song, also from time to time my other HEOS 5 speakers drop off for no reason and I have to load them up again. If they can fix that I'd be happy..Version: 1.406.141

PoorConnected to avr4400h. Plays from deezer for about 20 secs then just stops. Have to sign up to the ridiculously priced Spotify premium to stream..Version: 1.481.130

Doesn’t touch SonosDon’t waste your money! I owned a Sonos system and now invested in the latest HEOS Home with playbar, sub, 4 150’s and a 250 for a total of 3 rooms. Setup via the app is terrible!! Setup with Sonos is 1000 times easier and everything just works. Good luck tuning the home entertainment room for surround sound. Speakers drop. TV input drops. Sometimes no sound from a room even though blue light is on. Difficulty getting sound from all rooms when grouping. No it’s not the WIFI. No it’s not the size of the apartment which is 80m2. App is not intuitive at all!! Doesn’t work with Apple Music. The place where I bought it says Denon is coming with an app update in May. That’s 3 months from now and based on previous reviews with same/similar problems, I expect no solutions. Will probably return today and replace with Sonos. Because Sonos works and Sonos is supported..Version: 1.544.150

Clunky and frustrating to set up and maintainThis system is so clunky. Can’t even get the subwoofer to pair with the sound bar and even when I get the sound bar working fine it occasionally reverts back to another setting where the dialogue is inaudible. Frustrated and wouldn’t recommend..Version: 1.505.130

Wish I stayed with SoniaI thought Denon was a reputable name and might be able to compete with Sonia for home streaming speakers and a functional app. Boy was I wrong! Constant issues, speakers ungrouping by themselves, speakers that refuse to be grouped together, unable to see your speaker in the app, and on and on. To top it off they still have not been able to strike a deal to integrate with Apple Music. All I can say is this is a terrible experience and I previously owned the Sonos system but wanted to switch to a more affordable system before I kept buying. That was a a mistake, Denon HEOS is garbage through and through, save your money or buy Sonos!.Version: 2.1.840

Great Denon AV system - rubbish app.It kind of works most of the time but is just feels like a bodged/rushed/amature development. Things that are just unforgivable ... Listing music from my collection all the titles /description text overlaps and as a result is largely unreadable. Not fixed by rotating the screen as it doesn’t work in landscape .. really!? Looking at list of tracks on a playing album and there is no indication of which track is playing. The whole thing feels like a mess and lets my great AV system down (a link to it comes in the instruction manual for the AV system). I suggest getting some usability testing done before the next release. If you have any other choice then I suggest using it..Version: 1.562.280

No youtube music supportWhere is youtube music support !!.Version: 2.1.840

AVR no longer works as audio sourceSince the release of version 2 my Marantz Receiver no longer works properly as an audio source. It will playback only from other sources only. Previously the volume was quite low when it was the source but otherwise it worked well. Too bad!.Version: 2.1.562

The most frustrating appThe HEOS app is the most frustrating app I have ever used. There are at least 4 taps to get anywhere and start anything playingon the device. It’s clunky to use with Spotify and doesn’t support YouTube. The TuneIn feature only allows some stations. It takes a very long time to load and the interface is not at all user friendly..Version: 1.466.200
