AmpliFi WiFi for Negative User Reviews

It works but..It works well but you can only control the wifi when you are in the house. So if my husband goes out for work I can’t put the TV on for my toddler because if he has turned the internet off. Which is a problem because I need him to be in the other room so I can work/cook..Version: 1.14.4

BrokenUnable to connect to router since upgrade to 3.3.0..Version: 1.13.0

Gets worse every updateEvery update includes some kind of minor graphic facelift at the cost of actual real time date. The clients menu used to show what devices were connected via WIFI 6, not anymore. Each device used to also show real time through put, not anymore. It’s a snapshot every two seconds or something. There also used to be a dedicated tab for real-time throughput and overall data usage. They either buried that or it’s gone completely. These are just the things I can think of off the top of my head I’m sure if I dig a little deeper I can find a few more useful data features they took away just to change the Ubiquiti logo or something..Version: 1.23.0

Cannot pair the mesh pointRouter keeps show up in app but didn’t get setup done. My AMPLIFI set used to work, now I can’t pair the mesh points.Version: 1.14.0

Reinstate real-time throughputPlease reinstate the real-time throughput bar graph/readout. I regularly use it to monitor overall excessive traffic on my home network. The usage pie graph was useful also. A lot has been unnecessarily condensed in the latest 1.20.0 update. I will not be updating on my other devices because of this "UI change". If there's a way to roll back my current mobile app update, I would..Version: 1.20.0

Needs more workVery simple app, easy to use interface but it needs more advanced options. Also it has a ton of connection issues to my router, as it’ll sometimes take forever to make minor changes and it will lose connection with the alien with no rhyme or reason. For such an expensive product, this app definitely needs more love !.Version: 1.15.1

Phone AppIf youre on a mac like me, this is just the phone app running on macos (apple silicon). I was looking to see if using this on a mac would be worth it over jsut using the app on my phone, but its not. Using the Amplifi (Alien) direct connection through a web browser leaves a LOT to be desired. I prefer managing my router through a web browser like some other major brands allow, but the browser experience for the Alien is basically a quickly written web page with less than half of the features that the app gives, which is also limited..Version: 1.16.1

App has some issuesEvery time I open the DHCP settings and try to add a static lease the app crashes. Every. Time..Version: 1.1.3

Need updatesNo issues with hardware. App could be better. Please add the following: - lock down app for obvious reasons like preventing viewing wifi password and undoing restrictions (pause) - ability to clear previous speed tests - ability to clear previous connected devices that show up in profile view (devices get refreshed/no longer used) - ability to add rules to profile, block traffic in/out Optional: - View browsing history of devices - content filtering - wifi analyzer to see quality of signal and channel allocation. I don’t know of any other that have this. It would be awesome to select gateway or beacon and check this type of stat..Version: 1.14.1

Family updateSuper buggy update. No longer detects device name, which makes it impossible to use new family update. Fix soon please, very annoying.Version: 1.2.0

Stopped workingWhen I set everything up the app was awesome. However, I can’t load app - keeps crashing now. Any ideas?.Version: 1.13.0

IPhone bad, iPad good.My iPhone app cannot connect remotely to my routers. It shows “connecting” then returns to the router list. Always. I’ve deleted the app multiple times, restarted the iPhone, downloaded the app, same story. Works fine on my iPad. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Other than this (big) problem, the app is great. And although this is an app review and not a product review, Amplifi systems are fantastic, highly recommend them. Edit: original review posted in October 2021, problem persists despite repeated deletions, logouts, etc. So, iPhone still bad, iPad still good. 🤦🏻‍♂️.Version: 1.15.0

Issues out of the boxHaving issue with mesh node wirelessly disconnecting from its router. Bought as an Alien pair. Signal between two is strong (Great! 40dbm). Haven’t had product installed for more than three days and the node will not stay connected for a continuous 24hr period. Have followed instructions including factory reset but problem prevails. At one point no matter the action taken I could not get the devices to re-pair/reconnect no matter what I tried. Eventually (hours later) a power cycle was successful only to have them disconnect again within 24hrs. Router always seems to work well. I purchased two of the Alien kits and have only opened one; hesitant to open the second. So far unfortunately I am not too impressed. Set-up was easy to accomplish, pretty much “plug and play.”.Version: 1.25.0

Doesn’t workTrying to configure a mesh point and after selecting it from the list it scans for a Wi-Fi network to connect it to but keeps returning an error failed to load access points list, even though I’m connected to the wifi. Just useless.Version: 1.13.1

Ok router, poor appI can’t imagine this company actually hired real designers to build their app because it is very difficult to use if you are not in your 20s with perfect vision. The tiny light gray font used throughout much of the interface is nearly impossible to read, the icons, and the use of space throughout the app is inconsistent, and sometimes even ugly. It is a very poorly designed app. I wish people and companies who made apps like this spent more time on useability rather than just style. At the very least, if this company just followed Apple‘s most basic design guidelines, this review wouldn’t be necessary..Version: 1.24.3

Cannot maintain connectionWhen it works, the coverage and speed are great. However, I cannot obtain or maintain an IP for any consistent amount of time. My Apple device (phone, laptop, iPad) or my Alexa connections will just not be connected at any given time and even if you go and reset the AMPLIFI base, some devices will then connect but eventually (hours later) the same thing happens again. Perhaps this works great for a small number of devices but for a “smart home” I don’t think I can recommend. You just never know what is going to have a connection and won’t. BTW, I their support is helpful. They sent a new system out but same results. Perhaps there is a fix coming in he later versions but now matter how many updates I try I have the same results..Version: 1.7.0

Great router, mediocre-at-best appI like my AmpliFi HD router + mesh points and the general ease of managing them. However, the remote management feature doesn’t work too well because it always loses the connection to the router. I end up having to log out and log back in with my Ubiquiti account to reestablish the remote connection through the app. The app can also be a bit buggy at times (random crashes)..Version: 1.11.1

Good hardware but app is lackingThe app has no dark mode and feedback about that has been ignored for years. Device sort and DHCP list names don't match so you will be editing names twice. Don't bother customizing device icons either as they will reset to default after a random app update..Version: 1.19.0

Works but latest update caused issue.Since the latest update the speed test function no longer works..Version: 1.24.0

Latest update results in missing Speed CheckerThe latest update of the app does not have a Performance tab. Please with the fixings!.Version: 1.20.0

Device listSince the latest update, the devices list is not in alphabetical order as it always was. Can you explain the order and also give a way to sort the devices list… it just keep appearing I. Random order. Previous comment/explanation from Developper is false, I see a 5ghz device right in the middle of a bunch of 2.4ghz… Talk to your QA and dev teams!.Version: 1.15.3

Has really fallen in qualityI used to recommend this system to everyone but the app has gotten increasingly terrible over the past year. The app almost never connects to the system without a complete router reboot. It's totally unreliable and useless now. On top of which the mesh points don't provide the same coverage they used to. I used to have great coverage over the whole house but now wherever I place them it says they're too far away. Get a different system, this one is endlessly frustrating..Version: 1.13.5

Flawed Device & Flawed App with Disengaged DevelopersI don't generally "get in the thread" on products, but this one is different. I live in an urban environment with over 80 wifi networks and emergency radio equiment within 100 feet of my apartment. I live in a small 680 sq ft appartment and I had to purchase a second alien router to create a semi-reliable wifi network. This app is lacking, the device is buggy and the support for this product is disengaged. I have shared diagnostic logs and feedback about the router and the app on multiple occasions. The responses are dismissive and vauge. In some cases they try to gaslight me to avoid any responsiblity for their lack of planning and implementation. The router's screen is helpful, however it turns off randomly, ignores "night mode." and I find I have to power cycle them often to improve wifi reliability. The app lacks summary information. like device connection health, information displayed on the device that helps troubleshoot and identify weak spots... is NOT carried over to the app for some reason. Developers say "it's designed to be a simple product." which I find odd, nothing about gamers, who this product is targeted suggest they are looking for "simple" in the tech they use. I'm writing this review to draw attention to a trend with tech companies releasing half-baked products forcing consumers to become unpaid beta testers. Avoid this product until the ratings improve..Version: 1.25.0

IPad app please and dark modeNeeds to have a dedicated iPad app like the unifi devices and please have a dark mode or just reduce all that retina burning white..Version: 1.13.4

OkNeeds a iPad native and better web app.Version: 1.20.1

Sold is 18 months laterThe router portion was amazing, but the wireless antenna’s were garbage for speed. Could not get them to go over 10mbps unless I put it right next to router and then only got about 20. Spent hours with tech support and in the end they told me that was normal. I stopped using the antennas about 6 months ago and rebooked my Apple routers in extend mode. But this was buggy as expected. So sold it all and got Deco M5, much better with Ethernet backhaul . Very disappointed with AMPLIFI, especially given the price of their system. Won’t be back to this company.Version: 1.13.2

Time to update....Awesome idea by amplify. The hurdles are the dependency in a google or far worse facebook account for the remote access (facebook and privacy simply don’t work well together). Additionally the amplifier app doesn’t have a close window button and if you want to change your mind from sharing with ‘transport’ - you need to restart the amplify app. Last - enabling such a VPN service, free for amplifi users in the US, will go a great way. That will definitely add more amplify users out there. VPN is important. The app definitely needs some design updates - simplicity..Version: 1.10.0

Doesn’t work on XrThe app no longer works at all on iPhone Xr.Version: 1.13.1

All was perfect until most recent update. Please fix!...Version: 1.14.4

App vs. SupportWhile still selling for full retail price, the Ubiquiti Alien product that this was meant to support - has ZERO support from the parent company - Ubiquiti. Take heed, as the next new product will be old in less than two years, and their mindset appears to be geared towards building new product, and not supporting yesterdays deliveries. While this s/w is somewhat insightful, its usefulness is overshadowed by the lack of support to address the quirks that become apparent through use of the app..Version: 1.25.0

Want to love it but key features flakeyAbsolutley killer wifi coverage with one key draw back - if you use the app to kill wifi on devices, good luck getting it to work on those devices again without a hard reset. Sometimes they come back on, but over 80% of the time I have to fiddle with deceives until I eventually restart the system. Even that doesn’t fix the problem some of the time. As the point of a router is to provide wiFi, the fact my son’s iPad or PS4 will connect to the network are refused access to the Internet even when the app says all is well is hugely frustrating..Version: 1.12.4

No remote supportRemote management no longer works and is not even an option since a recent update.Version: 1.20.1

StoppedInitially the app worked fine. Today it just won’t load, which is a bit of a problem as it’s used to do just about everything on the AMPLIFI. Have uninstalled and tried again but no luck. And tried on another phone. This coupled with the AMPLIFI routers incredibly limited functionality had meant I’ve ordered an ASUS. Don’t get taken in by it’s good looks..Version: 1.13.2

V. 1.13.3This update completely broke all functionality. Connection time-out occurs every time I open the app to connect to the router. Please fix the issue, the app worked flawlessly before this update..Version: 1.13.3

Amplify your troubles! This is just the worse app ever. It’s very difficult and confusing . When I first installed it found the AMPLIFI device right away but after the upgrade it just crashed . I was able to find the device after many tries and resets however I no can no longer find the device . I’m sending everything back. The Meshpoint HD is a joke . All it does it’s amplify the signal but lower the speeds tremendously . There is no real advantage to this product the Wi-Fi speeds deteriorate with the distance while the signal is strong , so what good does that do? It just makes it worse not better ..Version: 1.14.4

Ok until latest updateWorked really well until latest update, now the app will not open at all..Version: 1.13.0

RuinedApp update doesn’t allow me to monitor networks remotely, so now the app is useless for providing support to friends and family I’ve convinced to buy Ubiquiti products because of this feature..Version: 1.24.2

Seriously, no iPad app?Come on folks… such a great router, how about bringing the app up to snuff. It’s missing a clean iPad version, and it is also a mess when trying to read the throughput on devices. You always have to wait for the throughput numbers to “tick up” from zero, EVERY TIME a device of interest scrolls off the screen. The few times I typically want to get into the app, it is to understand what is using up my bandwidth, and it’s always a painful/annoying process..Version: 1.14.3

Make an iPad version of the appTrying to modify settings via the Amplifi app on an iPad is a frustrating experience. Amplifi doesn’t take advantage of the screen real estate or landscape orientation available on larger tablet-style devices....Version: 1.10.1

Ok. Speed limit per device?Need speed limit per device. Thanks..Version: 1.9.0

Needs iPad Support & UI Clean UpNice app, but needs full iPad support (like the UniFi app), and the UI should be cleaned up like the UniFi app too..Version: 1.13.1

No iPad, is eero a better choice?Disappointing that there is no iPad optimised version. And the functions are basic, so not sure why the cost is so high. Eero is a much nicer system to use, with more functions that are executed better. WiFi is pretty handy too. Ubiquiti could up there game like their UniFi console experience which is excellent. This is a very poor execution of so,etching less complicated..Version: 1.14.4

Missing important, critical featureVery hard to navigate, settings are hard to find if they even exist. Really disappointed there's no real QoS / traffic shaping, no IPSec VPN, no transparent proxy for adblocking or caching, no custom DNS settings for overriding upstream resolvers based on domains, no IDS and several other things I'm used to available even on basic routers..Version: 1.4.0
