Ristar Classic for Negative User Reviews

Developers: There's a problem you need to fix urgentlyThis game is a free app with the option to play 'ad free' for a small payment. That's absolutely normal & fair & I have no problem with that whatsoever. Having said that, I was bombarded with so many adverts I lost count - & this was before I got anywhere near actually starting to play the game. It looks like the adverts are actually preventing the game from even starting. DEVELOPERS: YOU NEED TO SORT THIS PRONTO! OTHERWISE PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF MONEY GRABBING CHARLATANS WITH NO MORAL FIBRE AND ABSOLUTELY NO REGARD FOR ANY POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS. I'm sure that isn't the case & I'm sure you're all hard working, upstanding members of the community, but first impressions last. Don't they? The little video clip on the AppStore makes the game look like the sort of game I'd really like to play, so if you could make the game playable - just enough so I can decide if it's worth chucking a couple of quid at - that'd be just peachy..Version: 1.0

It’s without its flawsI absolutely love this it is truly a blast from the past for me however it is slightly buggy and could use some fixing overall I love this.Version: 4.1.3

Terrible emulationThis game should never have been released in this state. Constant frame dropping and slowdown and mushy audio, even on latest gen iOS devices. Sega have (dishonestly) claimed that the issues are due to device fragmentation - in which case, please point me to any device on which this emulator runs well? If they're not going to be honest about this why should we trust them to fix it?.Version: 1.1.1

THE ADSWHY ARE THERE ADS IN A SEGA GAME!!!!! $3.00 to get rid of them? MAKE IT 1 OR 50c!!!!!.Version: 1.0

I wouldAppreciate if you can be able to put in the Japanese version of the game so people can know the true experience of the game and have a lot of fun.Version: 4.1.1

A commentOk this game is annoying, it won’t work when i tap on something. But I have one request... it’s that I hope the next to be imported is pokemon please!.Version: 1.1.2

SO MUCH ADS!!!OMG as soon as I start the game ads pop up every single three seconds! Actually less than that, EVERY SINGLE SECOND!!!!! I loved the game Ristar but this app should be called adstar because there is so much ads! Anyway you guys should fix this and make less ads pop up!.Version: 1.0

Neat concept stretched a bit too farRistar is close kin to Sonic; not surprising as all each was developed from one of several concepts that were considered to launch a mascot platformer. Speed and rolling won out as the central game in Sega’s marketing, but the grapple mechanic would live on in Ristar, which runs on the same engine as Sonic and likewise pushes the Genesis color pallet hard to deliver gorgeous graphics. Also like Sonic, though, Ristar demands a lot of a very limited moveset. Grappling is most of what Ristar does, and as the game goes on, there aren’t too many changes in the experience besides increased challenge. Sadly some of the challenge is also due to old-fashioned, 8-direction controls, so you can’t always hit your target unless Ristar is in the right spot. At least the addition of save and rewind features make it more manageable. Catchy music, too..Version: 1.2.2

It's an improvement at leastI had given up on Sega forever games on the iPhone as they were all terrible. But after reading better things about Ristar I decided to give it a try. Well the controls though still bad, are an improvement. Made better that you can place where the controls actually are on screen. Emulation also seems okay. Haven't encountered any frame drops ( yet! ) or drop in music. I'm glad Sega is actually listening and trying to make it better..Version: 1.0

Another classic ruinedSega continue to treat their amazing back catalogue with utter contempt. As with other recent Sega retro releases, this runs horribly, dropping frames continually. Compared to Christian Whitehead's amazing Sonic conversions, they're truly awful. Along with the awful frame rate comes laggy controls and inaccurate sound emulation. This is low rent, zero effort shovelware. Nintendo do retro right, Sega really, really don't..Version: 1.1.2

Change a few things pleaseI like Sega games/old games, and most of all, I like Ristar. It’s been one of my favorite games for years. But there’s a problem. It’s the D-Pad. When you press a corner, it will move you left or right. It should NOT be like that. And not just that, it’s the direct movements too. When it comes to a D-Pad like an Xbox controller, the D-Pad basically HAS to be symmetrical, or I can’t play it. The left and right movements are too thin for me and that gets me anxious thinking I’m going to lose a life. And another thing: Ristar CERTAINLY DOES NOT belong on mobile. As much as I was pretty good at this a few years back, having a pretty thin phone was a problem because I used to play on an IPad. I would recommend it, but the game is just not right for me. I’m way better at this on computer. I’m not going to call it disappointing, I’d just call it not as good. Hope you can fix this since it’s been out for literally more than 20 years. :).Version: 4.1.3

Abysmal PerformanceThis game runs abysmally on my iPod 5, iPad 3, and iPhone 5C, with an abundance of slowdown, frame-tearing, and audio-popping. I already have this game on my Nintendo Wii, but the image just isn't as sharp as it would be through an HDMI signal. I'm 100% certain that the A8 chip in the Apple TV is more than enough to properly run this at a stable 60fps. Edit: Had to reduce this from 3-star to 2-star. I decommissioned my iPhone 5C and made a 3-generation leap to the iPhone SE, but even jumping from the A6 to the A9, the game still suffers from stuttering, frame-tearing, and audio-popping. It has become abundantly clear to me that the emulation software in Sega Forever is inferior to that of unofficial Genesis emulators for Android/Windows, and will run poorly on the A8 chip in the Apple TV (4th-gen) and even the A11 Bionic chip in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Sega Forever is a 2016 ARM-architecture Genesis emulator being outclassed by the Nintendo Wii’s “Virtual Console”—a 2007 PowerPC-architecture Genesis emulator. Nintendo has proven with the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch that ARM devices can run stable, accurate emulation of older consoles, making Sega Forever even more insulting. I suggest that Sega either patch each and every one of these games to be of the same standard as the 3D Classics line for Nintendo 3DS, or abandon the Sega Forever project altogether..Version: 1.1.2

Fix your appThe classic game is and always will be fantastic but this mobile app is rubbish for a game with no online features it refuses to let me play when no network is available and worse so even though i payed for ads removed it forces them down my throat anyway and when i try to remove them again it errors please fix this.Version: 4.1.3

Unable to even get past the start screenThere's something really wrong here, I know free to play you'll get adverts like the sonic games but this one repeats advert after advert without allowing you to even start the game, Shame I owned this on the mega drive and was looking forward to playing it on the go, such a let down sega especially after the quite excellent Sonic Mania release on consoles. I'll be uninstalling this until it's playable.Version: 1.0

It’s a good game but maybe play it on console for a better experienceSo I played this on Nintendo switch it was fun but the game it does not have a good rewind please fix.Version: 4.1.3

Not the best performanceDon’t get me wrong, many genesis games and mobile ports are nothing but amazing. And Ristar remains the best games the soundtrack, character design, level design, and even the plot. It’s a game worth playing on the genesis, PlayStation3, X-box, and PlayStation 4. I’m a huge ristar fan, but the mobile port every time I start the game, I get nothing but a black screen? C’mon Sega. Ristar is a game that is definitely 5 Stars, but this mobile port, he’s going to have to deal with 1.Version: 1.2.1

No adsStop sending ads.Version: 2.0.0

Good Game, Bad AppI loved playing Ristar on the PSP (PlayStation Portable). When I found out it was on iPad I was so happy. When I got in the app, an ad, when I pressed play, an ad. I was finished with the game and I try to save, it says “Would you like to watch an ad to save.” I was so mad, I immediately deleted it. In short, DO NOT DOWNLOAD..Version: 2.0.0

Where the hell is the start buttonI’m here to say that there are way too many ads in the way of the screen and that there is literally no start button because an ad is covering it. Sega I know you failed and lost money because of the Dreamcast but don’t get too greedy with the money..Version: 4.1.1

Rip off / scamPaid for this previously, now re-released with adverts and asked to pay again. Money grabbing con. Avoid this developer..Version: 1.1.2

Won’t let me save or sign inThere’s an option to save the game by signing into your Game Center account but everytime I attempt to log in, there’s an error even when I’m connected to wifi. Please fix this bug.Version: 4.1.3

Good game.....but it has one glaring problemOne word: lag. I'm playing this on an iPhone 5s, and everything about it is good, except for the fact that the frame rate dips about every 15 seconds. I wish I tested it before paying the 2 bucks for no ads. I really hope this problem is fixed in the near future with an update, because if that were to be done, this game would be really enjoyable. Please fix this, Sega!.Version: 1.2.1

UnplayableDoubt the developers will do anything to fix this, but the controls are abysmal. The right hand buttons are two small and the joystick not responsive enough. This renders the game virtually unplayable, which is a real shame. Other games (eg Sonic CD) have the controls nailed. How hard can it be for the developers at Sega to look at these more successful ports and copy the controls? And that’s before I even start on the number of ads. Making you watch a 30 second add after you’ve just saved or resumed your game is a joke. Some of the ads don’t even have a X symbol to close. Needs a rethink!.Version: 4.1.3

A weak port of a solid gameRistar has been a fantastic game to discover and play through. It has a very endearing art style and was something not remotely on my radar. When I found it I was very impressed by the creativity and the care that went into the original game. Giving it three stars because of two glaring issues with the game: -1 star: The over-saturation of ads in the game. I’m not exaggerating it’s one of the worst ad formats I’ve ever seen in a game. Start the game? watch an ad. Save your progress after each level? Watch an ad to do that. Want to go back to your level after watching the ad to save your progress? Watch an ad. I don’t feel very sympathetic to this poor design given it’s Sega, a very successful gaming corporation, and not an indie developer who may need the increased ad revenue. -1 star: The controls are also laughably bad. I get that it’s never easy to port a game onto mobile but this handles way worse than I often have patience for. At the end of the day, it’s a very flawed port of what I would say is a strong original game for the Sega Genesis. There’s plenty of enjoyment to be found as there’s a lot of care went into the 1995 product. The port itself is about as lazy as it can get. You could probably get through the game if you have enough patience, nostalgia or appreciation for the creativity..Version: 4.1.3

Too many adsThe game is fun, but there are a lot of ads. At the start of the game, when I load my file, when I save data, and when I leave the pause menu. I get that some apps have ads for a reason, but this is kinda too much..Version: 4.1.3

UnplayableI was extremely excited when I first heard of this coming out, as Ristar was a huge part of my childhood and remains my favorite game to this day. Unfortunately the game is so laggy I cannot even play it. 2 stars for them attempting to put It out atleast. Hopefully this problem is fixed in the near future..Version: 1.1.2

Great game nerfed by controls.I love the original Ristar. It is one of my favorite platformers on the Genesis and a great diversion from the Sonic games. But this version is just not for me. In terms of the performance, it does do a great job. After all, I am playing this on an iPhone 7. However, that isn’t the main issue for me. My problem are the controls! Jumping can be very slippery and be a chore, even if it is a basic challenge. Also, trying to attack is infuriating since it hardly feels like it lands. And the game isn’t hard at all, but this port feels very sloppy in throughout. All in all, it could be considered a matter of preference and the game plays fine for you. But for me, I can’t stand to play it anymore. If you really want to experience the original Ristar, just go out and get it in one of the hundreds of Genesis compilations Sega develop..Version: 2.0.2

Won't play. Will not get past the start screen on any settings on my ipad, very upsetting, can only play it on my phone where the front rolls are terrible..Version: 1.2.1
