✓ It’s okay, but...It’s a good game. A very good concept. And it gives you statistics of your career. I love that there are difficulties and you can choose how many sets and how many game there are in a set. This adds to realism as I can play 5 set matches in a grand slam and 3 set matches in the others. What I don’t like: Bojan Jankovic is way too overpowered. (From hard up). I can always give him a good game but in the end I lose in straight sets. He returns everything. And wins points that he physically couldn’t in real life. I play using swipe. Most of the time the ball doesn’t go the direction I swiped in. This happens a lot when I have a smash or a supershot. Sometimes when I try to swipe to hit the ball, instead of hitting the ball, it moves to the point at which I ended my swipe. It seems scripted, which I know it’s not, but it’s still annoying. There’s at least three gulfs in difficulty between normal and hard. I can double bagel Jankovic on normal. But on hard I always lose 7-6 7-6 or something like that. ✓ Good but needs workFirst, for those of you having issues beating Theron Tenniele, here's a tip, don't hit to his forehand...at all. I only hit to his forehand if it's going to be a winner, otherwise I hit EVERYTHING to his backhand. I've been playing this game for some time now, and It's definitely one of the better tennis games for iPad. I use the on screen buttons for controls, but find often during a match that the buttons are way too small. I end up pressing the space between the buttons quite often. Would be awesome if those were scaleable so we could make them bigger or smaller. Also as some others have pointed out, it's almost comical how the game works when playing Theron Tenniele. It never fails, first set I beat him 6-0, and then in the second set I'm up 4-0 or 5-0 and then the game gets erratic..my player doesn't hit the ball as hard anymore, he runs erratically around the court, doesn't hit the ball at all or some other odd behavior. He usually wins 2, 3, 4 or 5 games in a row because of this before I weather the storm. I always know around game 4 of the second set, I will have a fight my hands because getting to and hitting the ball becomes an obstacle, and it has nothing to do with the way the Theron Tenniele is playing. If the player is going to beat me, let the player beat me, don't make my player glitch, so now I have to fight the software and the player. Other than that, the game is good..Version: 2.8
✓ Good game, BUT....This is a good game with good feel for the ball, but for starters the people who developed it never watched a grand slam in their lives. In no Grand slam ever the seed no 5 would play seed no. one on the second round!! Also a major flaw in the game is that when you play against players higher ranked than your player the controls become extremely difficult to manage and sometimes your player does not react accordingly. ✓ Better tennis game but the Theron glitch spoils itGame is pretty decent in terms of tennis gameplay. Mechanics feel right. However, Theron Thinnel is the player in the game that’s unbeatable thanks to a designed Developer glitch. Once you’ve beaten most of the tournaments, you’ll face TT at every final. He’ll cheat and beat you every time. Gotta use some skill and luck. Don’t get me started on the lack of customization for tennis gear and tennis courts. It’s truly lacking these sort after features by fans of this game. You’ll play this game for about month. Then you’ll eventually delete it because it gets repetitive, boring, and tiring because of TT’s cheating. Download, play it, but don’t set high hopes. You’ll be disappointed. ✓ Good but very flawedThis game can be highly addictive and very fun... until you realize two things: 1) Theron Tenniel has been given a HUGE advantage by the developers. He is almost comically hard to beat, which can feel good when you outwit him and reach the top levels, but very frustrating when he goes on a 9 win tear against you by making shots that your player can’t even begin to achieve. It’s just uncanny how fast he can reach the opposite side of the court when you slam a shot straight to the corner. Come on Sega, I get that you had to make him THE GUY, but it’s almost silly how easily he defies physics. 2) You’ll be pestered to buy the “ad free” version for $2.99. When you finally break down and do it, you’ll be pestered by ads for other Sega games that don’t allow you to close them out without clicking them which only then opens another box to download said game. ✓ It’s playable but needs workI’ve been into Virtua Tennis since playing the original in the arcade. I was happy to see it still existing in some form. Unfortunately this version needs work. First off, the frame rate is bad on my 10.5” iPad Pro. The gameplay isn’t smooth at all, which is not good for a game like Virtua Tennis. Second, the analog stick doesn’t work when using a controller. The D-pad is okay, but far from ideal. The analog stick is a much better option. A few other things. Since this a mobile game, the ability to save during a match and resume later on would be nice. Also, I’d love to see an arcade mode where you have a match against each player in succession with increasing difficulty. I’m giving this three stars because I’m happy Virtua Tennis still exists. The game is playable, even if the experience is subpar at the moment. The graphics, animations, and controls are good enough, so this could be great with some work..Version: 3.0.6

✓ They have the courage to ask for moneyThere’s a full free version of course but cluttered with ads and super slow in processing, I would even pay for what is a pretty decent game if the buttons were freaking working!! ✓ DecentWay to improve the game could be to increase the amount of sets you play and how many games in each set. As I feel a minimum of 4 games in a set is too short. But make this a feature you can turn on or off therefore it won’t have a negative impact on anyone. Also as I’m black I can only choose from one guy with long hair, which I understand as there isn’t many top black players. Sometimes the controls are unresponsive as you get further into a competition. There is a problem with the sound as after ads sometimes it just cuts off. Ads after every game is too frequent would be good after each set. At times you can hear the game in the background of an ad and if it’s the opponents serve then you’re gone go 15-0 down. It take extremely long to rank up, and needs to change as players don’t lose ranking points if they don’t do as well as expected. Moving the control about 50% got about 5% movement. 55% got about 80% movement. ✓ Don’t buy it’s a hoaxGame is an absolute hoax. Funny how you flog everyone until certain guys in the final of a major and than you can’t even hit the ball back without lobbing it. Spent 4hrs playing the number 1 guy in the final and couldn’t even get close after constantly resetting the app. So the game lets you win when it wants and will not let you win when it wants, it doesn’t matter how good you are. These are the issues I had in the final and only in the final: 1. The game would start stuttering and couldn’t move my player properly when I was leading 2. Couldn’t hit a hard shot is just kept lobbing it back to him. 3. Would hit it out but this doesn’t happen in any other match. Actually one time I had 3 set point and hit it out 3 times in a row. 4. The other player can chase down any ball. 5. I went through every style and couldn’t get close. 6. The other player constantly hits is back hard even when you have clearly beaten him. And I only say this because I don’t loose any points on any other stages or tournaments. If they fixed up there programme the game would be worth it. ✓ Cheap difficulty...not gonna keep you engaged for a long timeWell the game is not bad it is quite fun for a few days. SPT world tour is ridiculously easy. So after beating it, I can only have fun in training mode. Now that is where things start to get really awkward. Theron Theniel in training gets really unbeatable after a certain level: he achieves crazy shots, like running from left to right corner and still managing a perfect top spin to your left corner deep in your baseline. Which is impossible to happen in tennis. Let alone some crazy diving shots with perfect a ccuracy and trajectory. This is stupid... Another thing is that controls are not good at all. At lower levels of difficulty things are manageable, but as the difficulty increases you want more snappy controls. You will experience pushing the shot button and nothing happening, or changing direction and your player taking too long to respond. Another particularly thing is that it is nearly impossible to achieve a good volley shot: you pressure Theniel with deep shots in his baseline then you move forward to the net; Theniel shots the ball right at you and you being just right in front of the net perfectly positioned, most of the times you will do an out-of-balance semi-lob volley shot, although your position is perfect! Come on, this is stupid. I paid for the game and it was good for a while, but cheap difficulty is something I cannot tolerate and is not “challenging”, just irritating..Version: 3.0.7

However though, when actually playing tennis in the game it needs some more work on. It's more boring than Virtua Tennis 4, because no music plays during the gameplay. It would be a 4 star game if that was added. It would be a 5 star game if you added custom tennis player options. You can make up to 8 of them, which would be a great way to begin a world tour. And one more thing: Can you please add real pro players like Serena Williams or Roger Federer, and female players? I was eagerly wanting it since my first day of playing this game. If you add that I would play this game more often. Thanks! Oh, By the way, it's been a while since your last console virtua Tennis game. You should make a virtua tennis game for nintendo switch! It should be called either Virtua Tennis 5 or Virtua Tennis 2017 (or 2018). You should add new pro players like Karolina Pliskova, Stan Wawrinka, Angelique Kerber, Kei Nishikori and more. However, players like Anna Chaztezde (whatever her last name is... I cannot spell it right), she can drop out of playable players because of retirement. Instead she can be a coach in training, otherwise, it could be a different retired player. So, do you like those ideas? ✓ Waste of MoneyThe controls deliberately lose sensitivity as difficulty progresses. I realised I was putting excessive pressure on my phone screen only to find out that the joystick was not responsive. The lag time paired with these control issues and the players not responding to demands whilst developing mild sentience on court is incredibly frustrating. ✓ Falls flat, disappointingI love Sega, and grew up playing Sonic. However, this game is the biggest disappointment. Not only are the controls difficult but there’s not much you can do to influence power or trajectory. The graphics aren’t great, but if the controls were better it wouldn’t matter. In fact, the graphics on the old sega console are better than the graphics on this game. The worst thing by far is the fact there is not a single female character you can choose from. There might be an unlockable female character, but if there is I didn’t see it. There’s probably 10 different male characters you can choose from, so why not one woman? The last update but one introduced some sound problems - not all scores were announced. The latest update has sadly made this worse. The sound breaks up continuously and, worse, there is jerkiness at the beginning of each serve. Per advice from SEGA, I tried removing the game entirely from my iPad Pro. ✓ Fun But RepetitiveThis is the best tennis game on the iPhone. The graphics are great and the playability is good but repetitive. Sega could add so much to the game if they would model it after Tiger Woods Golf. Meaning allowing your player to build skills, buy new equipment and apparel, etc. A few complaints: 1) I purchased the game and continue to receive one advertisement for another Sega game while it loads. No big deal but many times when I attempt to exit out of the ad it takes me to the store to buy it where I have to exit out of the store and return to the game. 2) I have become very frustrated with the inability to hit winners at the net. What would be a net winner in any real tennis game require 2-3 net shots to win the point. 3) Theron Tenniel is ridiculous and the game blatantly cheats in his favor. I actually wrote a review back then and it's nice to know that absolutely nothing has been done to fix the various issues I mentioned. To be brief, basically in order to win, you can only play 1-6 games maximum before the game cheats. You magically stop moving, the opponent magically gets super shots every two points, and you magically stop hitting ground strokes, it's unbelievable, not to mention unrealistic and frustrating. ✓ OpponentsFor the most part I do like playing this. The tournament choices, graphics and sound. And level of competition even your rank all get thumbs up from me. What gets the thumbs down from me is only I can make mistakes while my opponent is always perfect - never faults, balls are always in bounds and tennis is not like that at all. So as good or bad as you might be the opponent you’re playing never makes a mistake so to some degree you’ve already lost. ✓ Bug or cheat?I've played this game for years. TT has always been hard to beat, but I find that using the game pad configuration I can usually hold my own. However, since you first upgrade these controls have become unreliable once I reach the second set only when I've won the first. The controls work only for the serve, but simply won't respond to tapping, won't light up. The control stick allows you to move your player but that's it. ✓ Kind of…kind of not…This is a better Tennis game than any I found on console…hands down. You have to pay attention to where your feet are and what shot your trying for. While paying attention to your opponent and what they are trying to do and how they are setting up….that part feels solid. To me where it lacks is there is no Fatigue…I can volley Tenniel back and forth for a ten minute volley, all the while he’s running the distance of the court back and fourth….nothing… No fatigue…that ignores one of the fundamentals of the sport. I still beat him every time, but it seems rediculous. ✓ Too Many Flaws!I like some parts of this game - controls are excellent - gives the feel of the sport with finger swipes. What is missing: better way to see where you are in the draw of a tournament; seeing your character's name on a score board (if you use your name); hearing the chair use your name instead of "player 1" all the time. But what I HATE is the artificial rivalry construct in this game between you and 'Theron Thennial'. The designers gave this single character super human powers (most of the time) which undermines the game experience and makes me want to chuck my iPhone out the window!! It feels like the computer is playing against you in its own version of a "cheat mode"! Also the game does not use real pro names and championships (eg. Wimbledon) - - clearly a licence and cost issue but a shortcoming that also undermines the experience. Also when your opponent reaches 100% concentration during a rally the game suddenly cuts away to a slow-mo view of him hitting the ball - profoundly irritating and throws off your timing for the return! For some reason you get stuck playing the same series of three tournaments for days sometimes - even when you win all three!! You can only replay them until the date resets. Be nice to see trophy ceremony cut away after major championship wins. Also way too many auto instant replay cut aways and with many ineffective viewpoints too. Many rreplays show merely routine points and ignore the amazing winners - that you really might want to see again! Instant replays also never seem to cover volleys at net or match points. Finally some tournaments pit you against the #1 seed in the first round (fine) but it can happen even when you are the #2 seed - that never happens in real tennis!! I cannot recommend this game!! ✓ Lost the game after recent update.I really liked this game and would give it 5 stars. I did not have any problems with the stuttery serves, though I would sometimes lose the sound after ads. I also found that the game would continue on my opponents serve through an ad and I would find myself 30 - love down without getting a chance to return. ✓ Men onlyAs we are on lock down with a worldwide pandemic of Covid 19 I brushed the dust off my old PS3 and played Vitua tennis 2009. As I am very rusty I wanted to also have a similar game on my iPad. I’m not sure if it’s my user area but I am only able to choose from an all male player.
