✓ Overpowered characterOverall enjoy the game unless I’m playing against Ashiok. Her nightmare passive ability literally kills you for just playing, you can’t avoid drawing a card so you just have to accept the damage and 9/10, a card you probably don’t need or want. It would be alright if her nightmares only did damage but they also heal your opponent. This generally makes me not want to play matches just on the off chance I might be put up against her and lose or concede because there’s no way of beating her before you are overwhelmed by her draining your health(there are ways but RNG just doesn’t make it possible most of the time). Her passive needs balancing..Version: 1.01.01
✓ 1000 gems for one card????Ok here I am again with ANOTHER review. My complaint THIS TIME? The store…. Look… we all know it’s a new game that’s been in development for Easter’s and y’all tryna get your money back. Cool! But prorate the dang packs. When I have 6/7 cards for the Maniac pack, and my brother has two, and it costs us BOTH 1000 gems, that’s shady af…. Just saying. I spend money on the game, I get it, if this was real life and I’m playing cards I need to buy every pack to get the cards I want, but the fact is y’all are preying on the weak like Michael Myers chasing Stephen Hawking. Just because you know that not everyone pays attention doesn’t mean it’s ok…. Have some integrity man, stop pretending you’re hearthstone and be a BETTER game…..Version: 1.03
✓ Game not readyAnother digital game released by WotC with too many serious bugs. Game crashed twice within 5 minutes of install. Was not ready for release, but this has always been the approach WotC has taken with digital platforms. Magic Online was AT LEAST 10 years behind in technology. Magic Arena has always been buggy and a horrible economy. Magic Arena Mobile errored constantly(every 2-3 games AT LEAST) for weeks after release. WotC support stopped issuing credits/refunds EVEN WHEN VISUAL EVIDENCE WAS SUBMITTED PROVING THE BUG. Used to love WotC and Magic the Gathering. Can’t support a company that willingly puts out such a poor product while making huge profits of the game. Treat the customer with respect WotC!.Version: 1.00.01
✓ Needs a lot of fixingI really want to play this game. It has a nice twist to the Mtg tcg game. Spellslingers games are fast and fun and the rewards system is great. But out the few weeks I’ve been playing, I have only completed a handful of games. It just crashes constantly. I’ve come back to play every few days to see if there’s an update but nothing. You can’t play if you can’t get past the loading screen, then if you’re lucky enough to past the loading screen and get into a game you hope to god it doesn’t crash, which 9 out of 10 games it does. Fix the game and you’ll definitely get more players. Especially Mtg players looking for something different..Version: 0.15
✓ More spaceGive us the ability to play 6 creatures out instead of what we have now, space for 5. Two ‘heroes’ can play out their own creature by way of their special ability, so there is obviously already room on the board for 6 creatures. Only 2 hero’s (out of 20 or so) have that special ability. The entire game is hijacked to fit in these two hero’s special abilities. Just give every hero (everyone) room/the ability to put 6 creatures on the board..Version: 1.01.02

✓ 2010 called they want their mobile game backSpellslingers has some fun and interesting mechanics, a lot of cool designs, and the balancing isn’t terrible. By all means, it should be a pretty good CCG! The problem is that it runs like a poorly optimised game from 10 years ago. It’s astoundingly slow, with loading screens on basically every action, has clunky, poorly rendered 3D animation (game absolutely should’ve been 2D), and had inexplicable sections of blank screens or infinite loading bars. Idk how you manage to make a game this poorly optimised in 2023. My recommendation: unless they fix the godawful client (with extremely ugly UI to boot), go play any other digital CCG because none have ten loading screens between opening up your card collection and building a single deck..Version: 1.03

✓ Incredibly slow gameplayIf you’re a fan of magic maybe pass on this one. It’s like an mtg/marvel snap crossover. But the thing I liked about snap was the quick games. This is not that. All creatures have vigilance basically but damage Carrie’s over from round to round. Tutorials went by quick enough but the first 4 or 5 games I played against actual opponents boiled down to play all your creatures swing all your creatures block all their creatures repeat. Maybe it gets better later, but the games last way too long to be that stale. At least in magic you have to think about swinging out so you can keep blockers up..Version: 1.04
✓ Bugs and Errors still everywhereI love this game overall. I’ve been playing MTG for years. Since the first time I’ve downloaded it via IOS I’ve had no sound whatsoever. The only time there is sound is if I have my AirPods in. I’ve restarted my phone, I’ve uninstalled and re-installed multiple times. I’ve checked my output for audio etc. Nothing works. There are also many errors occurring mid game like not being able to play any cards even with mana, not being able to attack on your turn, etc. This is extraordinarily frustrating as it is already ridiculously hard to move up ranked and those errors cost you the game. ✓ Extremely buggyThe game itself is very fun, a great level of competition. However there are many bugs that force you to quit or concede in the middle of a game. There’s no way for the opponent to know you’re doing anything other than giving up in bad faith. There are bugs such as error messages popping up and then your hand disappears making it impossible to play any cards for the rest of the game, making your only options to pass and be beaten down or concede on the spot. If the bugs could be cleared up this would be a 5 star game but issues like this pop up and make the game unplayable too consistently to give it anything more than a 1..Version: 1.00.01
✓ Easy to learn, fun, annoying bugsI love the universe of Magic the Gathering, but I’ve never liked any of the direct ports of the paper game to digital form. They either cut too much out, or are overly clunky. But Spellslingers is the same world and flavor in a much more digital friendly format. It isn’t the same game, but it captures the spirit in a shorter, simpler way. Is it as deep as paper Magic? No. But it isn’t child’s play either. The monetization is odd, I wouldn’t say it’s worth spending money on as you could drop well over $100 and not get the cards you want for a super specific deck. But, if you just play you’ll unlock all the cards you want in a few months. My big gripe is the bugs on mobile. I constantly can’t even log into the game as it thinks I’m disconnected. Then, when I do get in, half of the matches never connect and count as losses for me. I don’t have any of those issues in the Steam version. Honestly, I’d be giving it 4 or 5 stars if it was even kind of useable mobile..Version: 1.04
✓ Enjoyable but buggyPlease fix the Trap Cards, quite often they don’t work when they should trigger. This is a huge problem especially when playing Teferi since his build is based around Trap cards. Many traps work most of the time, but some trap cards like Mana Drain don’t work at all..Version: 0.17
✓ Advanced players vs beginners, unfair leveling up system!The game leveling up system needs major improvements. I’m a big Dungeons & Dragons fan but I never played magic the gathering, so I’m a beginner. My early levels I was maybe winning 4-5 times out of 10 games on average. I was leveling up just as fast if I won or lost. My levels increased very quickly. I’m currently at 12th level and now when I play I’ll maybe win 1 game out of 10. The leveling up should be based off of wins so that everyone is at the same playing levels. I feel it’s unfair playing against advanced players when you are just a beginner. Or you could even have a rating system for players deck or cards, to separate the advanced players from the beginner players. Also, the players that can’t afford to pay cash to get more cards or craft cards, there should be more options for those players. Magic Spellslingers could easily be a 5 stars game with those improvements..Version: 1.03

✓ Busted ArchetypeThis has the potential to be a truly fantastic game. Unfortunately, right now the game is just a roulette wheel where you either get to play the game, or end up losing the coin toss and facing a liliana player. In a game where silence effects are rare, especially for new players, Liliana is near impossible to beat. Her reincarnating zombies archetype makes killing her minions nearly impossible, as even the basic 1 cost zombie is essentially a 3/3 with no downsides whatsoever. Most of the players are playing liliana, and it’s not because the other plainswalkers are boring, it’s because the only way to win that slugfest is to fight fire with fire..Version: 1.00.01
✓ Great game but many bugsMostly just small things like not being able to view card descriptions when drafting or if your hand is too big and disconnection issues. An amazing game and excellent design overall but there are still some problems holding it back. Some planeswalkers are far better than others too (eg Ajani is better than Angrath) but they are all fun and unique. The deck you make is more impactful than the planeswalker you choose though which does balance the power gap between planeswalkers. Despite minor bugs and extortionate in game purchases though I have few grievances. If you want to play MTG online, get Arena but if you prefer more fast paced games or have somehow found this without having previously played Magic the Gathering elsewhere the quicker gameplay (as there is no tap function you can attack without worrying about holding back blockers and having permanent damage means creatures are killed and replaced more often) then the altered rules and abilities are amazing. If you are deciding whether or not to get the game, do. (Sorry for the repetitive vocabulary and little to say in a long review).Version: 0.16
✓ Teferi Broken.I made a previous review about how broken teferi is and that will all the traps being played you can only use 8 cards in your whole deck because 22 cards get countered. You guys over buffed teferi and now I’m giving up and going to play teferi since I have all cards and planeswalkers. This game really became either rush decks or teferi stall decks for late game. Its excrutiating to play. Now I can’t play my favorite late game decks anymore. very upsetting. Its going to be 2 stars until this changes. ✓ Broken balance and terrible game breaking bugsThere is a planeswalker (main champion that slings spells that for some reason isn’t called a “spellslinger”) named Ral. He’s so broken that he can. Do 3 mana 10 damage nuke (starting health is 22-28) he also has insane card draw and card creation and can play an attifact, discover a spell and play 2 3/3 on the very first turn with 1 mana…. They do nothing to address it even after weeks. They also didn’t do a reset from beta so you’re up against people with literally every card. I’m wasting my time with a review because it keeps getting deleted, however there are also bugs: While playing you get a random error (frequently) that causes you to not be able to see your hand. Sometimes cards you play just disappear (usually if it’s been previously countered) lol hear bugs are repeatable, explainable and frequently reported on their discord. They still exist in roughly 40% of games. Between the 70% win rate Ral decks and the 40% of games lost to a game breaking but I rate the game as a 1* only because 0* isn’t an option. ✓ This game is amazing! (When it works)This game is a lot of fun. Simple, fast paced, and enjoyable, yet faces a lot of game breaking issues. The past 4 games ive played ive run into an “unknown error” that makes my cards disappear and renders the game unplayable. This has obviously kept me from progressing and dropped my rank down from silver back to bronze. Also locking packs behind the premium currency has promoted a pay to win style to the game. ✓ Do yourself a favor and don't download this gameThis isn't a game you play for fun, this is the kind of game you hate play. It's a miserable experience and progression is EXTREMELY slow. Complete 25 challenges for a single pack is terrible. And after every like 10 packs you finally get enough for a new commander. It's very p2w more so than other games I play because this game only has one mode and that's ranked real time battles. It'll put you against opponents that are way farther ahead than you and once you think you might have a decent battle they always draw the one card in their deck that could save them. ✓ WOTC has gone too far with thisThe premise of this game is great, simplified MTG on mobile, love it. However this game is PLAGUED by the biggest pay to win model to ever exist in a video game and a complete lack of balancing. To go along with a complete lack of balancing, they’ve shown they’re completely def to what is actually OP or completely worthless. They don’t listen to any feedback and I swear the only reason this game has any more than a 1-star rating is because players have deep pockets or just don’t mind being stuck in whatever the meta is. It’s really disappointing because this game has so much potential, but WOTC has turned magic into a massive cash grab because they know it’s going to completely tank soon. ✓ Great game if everything worked properlyGame has a lot of issues the lack of being able to put cards back sometimes you cannot even look at them it makes you play them. Ashiok even did a time twister and took multiple turns on me. timer was running down and I had full mana I guess it was my turn but it said their turn and I could not play and I had to wait for there timers to end and then he played again. The deck building could be better you don’t have an overall status of how many creatures traps and spell are in your deck. There no quick reset of deck you just have to exit or delete no easy way to take cards out it click find the minus button also the loading is out dated loading loading loading. It also needs private chat. I do like the guild challenges and the guilds I think that was a fantastic job. Game play can be great if it works properly. Nice job but needs work..Version: 1.00.01
✓ Glimpses of being goodOkay, to start I’ve played about 5 hours worth of game play now. So, that being said, this game is so close to actually being a binge worth game. However, it falls short and doesnt actually accomplish fun gameplay at all. In my experience so far there are certain characters and match ups that are literally unwinable unless you pay money and get better cards. This game is not balanced and is totally a coin flip on whether or not you actually get to play and strategize against your opponent. There are way to many variables for this to actually be a strategy game. Pick wrong deck or character in a totally random match up and the game is over before it even starts. You’re better off playing slay the spire if your looking for a balanced strategy card game! Occasionally you get an actual fun close match up that gives you that spark of what the game is supposed to be but those are so far and few between that your better off playing a different game..Version: 1.03

✓ Cool game*Updated (after 3 weeks) *The game is unbalanced at some point and I got three types of annoying players: - the one who’s playing with Gutfire Devil card and abuse of it - the one who’s playing with Jace and don’t fight, just drawing cards to empty their deck and win - the VERY slow player to get you concede the game Overall the game is fun and well made. ✓ Ehh it’s another pay to win game.It’s okay until you realize the only way to play is ranked and then when you get to realize that unless you pour money into the game you can’t win. It has been out a couple weeks and ppl already have the foil legends. I have made it to gold in the ranked and the only ppl I come up against are Ashiok and Angrath. They are way to over powered with their abilities. ✓ Unfair decksThey need to make it more fair for facing ashiok decks cause with his ability over giving you nightmares if you have the plane that allows you to draw 2 cards sometimes it can bug the timer to where you end up not getting a turn at all. Not only that but every time I go into ranked to try and go up the ladder I end up stuck in bronze either cause they other enemy has to many creatures ready to fight me or I end up getting health taken and time stollen from a ashiok. ✓ EnjoyableThe game is definitely P2W, but so is MTG in most formats. Superior deck building and strategy can win you the game, and there is less potential for RNG to screw you over than with normal MTG. Definitely worth a try for anyone who enjoys competitive strategy games. Loses an instant star for me because it force closes your music even if you have every sound in the game muted, and loses another on progression limitations- it takes quite a while to unlock all of the “Spellslingers” (planeswalkers) so your options stay limited for a while. If you are a fan of MTG arena but don’t like the toxic roping and slow pace, this is a great option..Version: 1.01.00

✓ No space on the boardThere is only room on the battlefield to place 5 creatures. Clearly, there is ‘room’ on the Battlefield for 6 creature because 2 of the hero’s you can pick to represent you have their own creatures that attack. When these special creatures attack you can have 6 creatures on the board. If Spellslingers does not increase the number of creatures you can play out before you to 6 I will stop playing. One might ask, why not 7 creatures, why not 8 (hearthstone allows you 7 creatures in play, magic arena allows unlimited creatures just as in real life)? Furthermore, there is no way to dismiss a creature you have other than ‘replacing’ it with a new one. If you have 4 creatures on the board (or 5) and you want to play a single creature that places 2 or more on the board (and there are several that do this) the new creature won’t play down. For example, if you have 4 (or 5) creatures on the board and you play Crush of Wurms which puts 3 Crush of Wurms on the battlefield you will only get 1 copy of Crush of Wurms. Give me 6 creatures, at least, or I will chose to play another game..Version: 1.01.02

No one’s reading these reviews and reporting a bug requires a whole login to another website which just times out once you give it all your details. When it works it’s a great game. ✓ Good Game but Constant crashesHow wizards of the coast can produce such a broken buggy game despite this just being a smaller version of magic arena is mind boggling This game is good for those who want to play magic but a simplified version in regards to number of cards etc but this game crashes all the time. Further update - over the span of 2 games this game crashed a total of 8 times. If you play as Liliana and sack something with relentless to draw a card the game has absolutely no idea what to do. Matchmaking will auto connect you to the ai if there aren’t any players - the issue with this is the ai is so dumb and will always attack regardless of if they will lose everything. Also the ai will always have an awful deck so be prepared to see nothing but 0/4 defensive constructs. I would much rather just sit in a queue for longer and wait for an actual player. The matches against the ai are just boring and it is hassle to quit out of these matches all the time - sometimes you will be connected to the ai 5 or 6 times in a row.Version: 0.16
✓ Fun game, bad customer supportI’ve been playing for a while now and have had quite a lot of fun. There are some very unbalanced cards that can make for miserable games, but overall it’s pretty good. Biggest issue for me is the bad customer support. They say you can link your account. I play on iPhone but cannot link my Wizards account to my Game Centre account. This has been a known issue for months and it still hasn’t been addressed or had any attention..Version: 1.02

One time I kept getting pink artefacts all over the screen when looking at certain cards. Another time during a match I had to skip a turn without playing any cards because every time I tried to play a card I got an “unknown error has occurred” message. ✓ Could use some gameplay tweaksTo view a card on the field you have to tap it but to view a card in your hand you have to long press. The method ought to be the same regardless of where the card is. (Preferably it should be long press and simply let go to stop reading the card.)Tapping the card brings up a full screen windowpane showing the card’s details and you have to press an X icon on the corner of the screen to dismiss. You have to do this each time you decide to read a card. It’s slow and excruciating. Furthermore.. to attack with creatures you have to drag each creature up then press on the button that says attack. But since this is Magic you can’t specify what you are attacking. So having to drag up is completely pointless. You ought to be able to just tap each creature you want to attack with. All in all simply trying to play Spellslingers is horrendously cumbersome and awkward and SLOW. It actually manages to be worse than the iOS version of Arena. They should have studied Eternal when designing this game, since Eternal is literally a ripoff of Magic but it plays much smoother than this. It truly blows my mind that they kept this in development for about three years and in all that time they didn’t even make up their mind on something as simple as whether we should tap or long press a card to full view it..Version: 1.00.01
