✓ Start up battle intro epic failI played this game before and enjoyed it but they ruined it. I could not get past the initial intro battle. I coups not block with my guy, total waste of time. So you have this really slow initial start up battle. They have very delayed teaching going on, very slow. Then i get to the little battle part where i have to drag a blocker to the attacker to block them and i cant. I can select them only. No dragging anything. Clicked entire screen, nothing. On the prior attack screen you can select the attackers and hit the button to attack, but on the defense there is no button to defend after selecting your blockers. Tried to go back through it, same. If it was operator error as i clicked entire screen trying to do anything. Dont understand why they changed the attack and block format. The bad part is it is Soooooooo slow in this teaching part that after tou try it 3 times and cant get past the blocking part, then you uninstall it from your phone and never think about playing it again, actually think about burning your old magic cards and take the time to write a scathing extended review. ✓ Totally unstableI can barely get through a match without the game crashing on me. It’s bad enough that I now only open packs on my computer, in case the app crashes and don’t get to see what came out. I feel sorry for my opponents who have to wait while I relaunch the app. And I know what’s going on when my opponents disappear for a minute and a half… The game is great when it works. ✓ Too many bugsThe game itself? Beautiful. They have so many different variations and art works of cards, the tutorial is great if you’ve never played magic and would like to get into it. However, the app crashes way too frequently. I’d say once every 2-3 games it’ll just crash for no reason and by the time you’re able to load back into the app your turn has been skipped which is a make or break point in matches. The app also runs terribly slow for no reason, the game itself can’t process multiple chain reactions or card plays at once and will freeze or slow down so bad you skip your turn, or it’ll simply crash and skip your turn. And at least once every month or two they’ll encounter a bug where you can’t log in, or have no network connection, etc. and have to wait 2-4 days until the devs fix the issue (which btw, there are only 2 devs who work on the app which is probably why there are so many issues). Also, cards with ward are broke, for some reason if your game crashes and you load back in, any cards on the field that have ward 1-4, can’t be targeted at all. So you or your opponent can’t even attempt to pay the ward cost to affect a creature and they basically become invincible. Also dungeon cards will just throw you into the next room if your app crashes even if it’s a 1 time play. Not perfect, but then again, who would expect such a graphics intensive game like mtg to run perfectly on what is generally considered the best hardware on the planet. ✓ FrustratingAuto shuffler kills the game. Most games no land or flooded. Matchmaker kills the game, always puts your deck against the same type over and over. If you run a high end green deck, you’ll be put against mono red most games. No rotation in standard has left the game stale. Already boring, have to wait another year for it to get interesting again. Other players can take a long time to take their turn, when players know they are beaten they will just let the timer run. ✓ Rigged matchmaking, broken shufflerThis game is pretty much unplayable now, they’ve succeeded in completely killing any kind of diversity this game used to have. When once you could expect to play against any manner of deck, now due to the fact they’ve completely 1000% broken the balance between the colours, the you can expect to play against maybe one or two specific decks based entirely on the deck you’re playing with. The shuffler isn’t random so it’s completely broken. This game isn’t fun anymore, sad to see it in this state after playing the original game 20+ years ago. I used to look forward to games where I never knew what cards the opponent would bring out. Now, it seems that all players are using one of a very small number of decks. It’s boring! I think WoC have built in too much synergy into the decks so there is an optimum way of playing each colour which all (successful) players adopt. ✓ DisappointingOne of the worst part about the way they design magic games is there algorithms. Very disappointing the draw you get ! You can count on getting the same 3 cards nearly all the time. You won’t see certain cards drawn you from your deck and you can chose what colour deck you challenge. Makes it hard if your playing white and always seem to be against black . Same can be said about blue decks being extremely annoying with no limit on how many times they can make you mill in one go. Throw in a mage craft and you might as well not have played. ✓ Waiting on ServerMagic the gathering on the go, what more could you ask for, this would be such an amazing game but for one problem. Once you complete the initial tutorial and begin the colour challenge, you will come across a game breaking bug, the final stage of each colour challenge will begin a waiting for server loading screen, which never ends. If this was fixed I’d happily rate this 5 stars but until then I’m effectively stuck playing the same tutorial games and playing against a bot with the same 5 decks. ✓ Far too unstableBefore downloading this game, the number of hard resets I had to do on my iPad could be counted on one hand over the course of years. So far today I have had to do 3. This is not unusual, and in fact is so common as to be utterly infuriating. It doesn’t matter if you contact customer support, nothing will be done about it, as nothing has ever really been done about on any of the other platforms this game is released on. Wizards of the Coast are far more interested in providing ways for customers to spend money on cosmetics and events than they are on fixing all the innumerable bugs, stability issues or user interface oddities. So why 3 stars? The underlying game is really, really fun. It’s great to play when it’s not having some huge malfunction. It’s so good that the lack of care over product quality ensures that Wizards can continue treating their customers with obvious contempt, and we’ll still keep coming back. ✓ Instant DisappointmentHow do they manage to keep getting it so wrong. An amazing IP, with fantastic artwork, and this is what the company poops out? This iteration of MtG looks terrible. The forced perspective of the playing area makes the cards looks weird and truncated. The tapping mechanic is mind-bogglingly ugly and unhelpful. The cards literally only tap by about 30 degrees from the vertical. It looks confusing in the tutorial. I can only imagine how unplayable it would be deep into a complex plater vs player game with something like a blue control deck. Card targeting and dragging is also unpleasant and prone to mistakes. I won’t get into the game’s performance of lack thereof, since that is dependant on your device, but even the most powerful device will sometimes lag and stutter which can easily result in a mis-target. A technical mistake which can easily be the difference between winning and losing. All in all, I - a MtG player who still has some cards from the Beta edition - am deeply disappointed by this offering. It has already been uninstalled by from my device. Stop trying so hard to make it flashy. Get the basics correct first so we can enjoy the game and the artwork. It’s 2021 for crying out loud. ✓ Connection and server problemsI really like this game but it has a lot of flaws. In starting off the game they have the player do the color challenge before they can access other game modes. I like this it allows the player to learn the game, unfortunately in my experience it is not completable because we the player tries to do the last challenge of each color the waiting for server sign pops up and freezes the game so you have to exit and reload just for it to freeze again because there is nothing else you can do. Because the challenges cannot be completed the player can’t use any other game mode. I was however able to find that the player can turn that block of but only after thoroughly exploring the settings and whatnot. This would have been a nice thing for the makers of the app to include on the home screen so players actually know about it. Another this is that recently the app has not allowed me a player to open the app. It goes to a black screen and then says disconnected please reconnect to continue and goes to a black screen. In going through the trouble shooting steps was not helpful. And trying to contact support has proven tedious and inconvenient. ✓ Turns take way too longThe app works fine on my iPad Pro 2019 model never crashed yet 500 plus games, the main downside i find is allowing each player a ridiculous amount of time and extra time saves between moves and then you get a lot of annoying players that do it on purpose to try force a quit. It would be great if they added a quick move option so people who know how to play can get on with it. Another thing about gameplay which ruins the game is when you have too many creatures out you can’t select the ones you want when playing multiple spells or abilities because when you slide sideways on the screen it doesn’t stay fixed as it jumps back to the main layout, this has cost me a lot of losses, don’t know why you can’t side scroll on battlefield and have it stay set to where you want or why you can’t zoom out to see all of battlefield. One last thing I think would make the game more enjoyable is if a flag icon was added next to the players name showing what country your opponent is playing in. It’s annoying playing someone with a foreign name and not knowing what country the language is from. ✓ Shuffling is brokenI don’t care how many lands I put in a deck shuffling is broken. Every other game I will have 5-6 draws of nothing but lands, or 5-6 draws of no lands. Even if I have 20 lands in a 60 card deck like is suggested and cards that allow me to draw during my turn…it doesn’t matter. Every other game I'm either going to get screwed and have no land draws for six turns or I’m going to draw nothing but land. I’ve literally gone the last two days from platinum tier 3, last win till ranking up…to platinum tier 4 win lose win lose win lose win lose win lose because of shuffling. I also seem to draw the same card I have one of almost EVERY single game. Even when I take a mulligan this card ends up in my hand over cards I have sets of 4 of in the deck…and won’t draw any of the cards I have sets of four of. I understand that getting mana screwed is part of MTG…I’ve played for a long time. But losing 10 times in a row because I can’t draw a land with 20-24 lands in a 60 card deck for six turns or draw nothing but land for 6 turns after the start of the game nearly every single match tells me something is broken. ✓ It’s magic... but you’re better off with the PC clientI’m enjoying myself, it offers all of what MTG Arena has except portable with touch-screen interaction (which is my preference). However you will encounter a few visual and audio bugs, which albeit minor and doesn’t take away from the fun (like low-res artwork, glitchy interface and the off out-of-place prompts), but when basic interactions such as the next phase button stops functioning (funnily auto-skip seems to be the only consistent way to bypass this), it destroys the game completely as you’re forced to give up those phases when it does occur and are at a constant disadvantage as you’re strategy may crumble before you at any moment because of in-game bugs. ✓ Honest Review of MTGA in 2023This game is broken and/or just a scam. I played this game for a year when it first came out then deleted it because the algo for opening draws and matchmaking was absurd. I redownloaded it because a friend at work started playing and I decided to get back into it. Well the friend quit playing rather quickly and now I am deleting again. Why would anyone want to play a game like this? This must be the most toxic mobile game experience I’ve ever had and that is saying a lot. There are so many problems with this game but I will say 3… 1. Matchmaking: no matter what deck you construct for standard rank, there is always a deck that you cannot win against. The algo will constantly match you with someone that you cannot beat. Most are probably bots. And when you change your deck well then you are suddenly match against a whole new set of opponents that have a counter deck to yours. I have experimented with many different decks and I always match against opponents with totally new decks. You can honestly play for hours and get nowhere on the ladder rank. I have made it to mythic the last two seasons but for some reason cannot get close this season with the same decks. 2. New cards: way too many new sets and cards. It’s completely overwhelming. After three months you are just starting to figure out all the cards in a set and how they work then they release a new set. All the new cards have power creep and are just toxic stupid cards. It’s not fun when you try and build a cool deck with creatures but always get match again an opponent with board wipes exiling everything. So lame but magic keeps putting these massive board wipe and exile cards in every set. Or you play agro red or white decks that can pretty much have you beat before your third turn. 3. Shuffling algo: no matter what anyone says it is still totally broken. Or the game is rigged so you don’t win. Anyone with half a brain can see that when you have a 60 card deck and can only put 4 of one card but I always have 3-4 of them by turn 2. That is not random. ✓ This game 100% riggedI’ve played this game off and on since 2020 and I know for a FACT it is 100% rigged and it is rigged often. Whatever program shuffles the cards does not do so truly randomly. Your opening hands and subsequent draws are also “weighted” meaning you are more likely to draw certain cards over others rather than a random card from a shuffled deck. The matchmaking is also weighted and rigged. If you win too much the matchmaker will begin oddly pitting you against the exact counter decks over and over. And guess what? You’ll never be able to have a random starting hand or be able to top deck cards you need to win that match. It just will not happen. And YES this rigging does occur in PAID events. When you enter a 2000 “gem” draft that you pay real money for the matchmaking is totally rigged and no you will not go undefeated or even come out even because the game does not randomly match you. The game chooses the winner based on some “fairness algorithm” and not based on who actually does better. Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro wokeness is coming through. Random isn’t fair and can’t be milked for cash reliably so MTG Arena is rigged from top to bottom. Arena could make MORE money if it was fixed and developers released their control of outcomes. ✓ Don’t bother on iOS, just play on PCThe game itself plays ok on PC. The app is hard to use, hard to navigate and frustrating to play games on iOS. The biggest flaw in design would be the deck building. It unintuitive and tedious. There are some features to help navigate the massive library of cards but they are too basic to be very effective. Next would be the crashing, not a problem on PC but every 3-4 games the app crashes. Occasionally locking up the device as well. There is no option to turn of the boring, repetitive and unnecessary animations. Also, textures from these animations frequently don’t work and you get a screen of black or purple squares. But the biggest problem with this game is the speed at which it plays. The game doesn’t penalise slow play very well and some games will drag on for over an hour unnecessarily. I’ve had games where myself and my opponent had “beat stick” decks and because they can spend so long making choices a game that should have lasted 10-15 minutes went for an hour. Many opponents will also slow play you if they start losing to try and make you concede... even in unranked games. And there lays the problem with mtg. The playerbase. It may smell slightly better than playing in store, but they are still the same insufferable rejects who take children's card games too seriously..Bobbys gherkinVersion: 2021.4.50

✓ Decent but needs more workThis is decent port of the PC version but I wouldn’t use it to play anything other than a quick unranked match. The cards are tiny and some of the text is minute - it needs a better zoom feature. Only really practical if you know all the cars text off by heart (difficult with the various different art-style cards). The app is HORRENDOUSLY unstable. Unless you have a super-solid WiFi connection, there is just too much lag. You end up reconnecting multiple times per match, which causes cards to freeze and others to show when you know they’re dead. It feels like I see the dreaded “Waiting for the Server” screen more often than I do the rest of the game. However, when these flaws are fixed, it’ll be a much better and enjoyable game to play. What they fail to tell you is that the Mastery Track is reset and costs you 3400 crystals every time they do a new release. My 12 year old son saved up to make this purchase. Thanks to this evil money theft system, he only got to play for a week and a half with the mastery track unlocked until they locked it again on him. $30 for practically nothing. ✓ Good when it works frustrating all too oftenWhen the game works it’s great - use like a face to face proper magic game. The biggest issue I have is the amount of crashes that happen. Invariably these occur just as you are about to play a card that will either win you the game or allow you to recover from a dangerous position. While you get kicked out and have to log back in, your turn will continue, you will be timed out, and by the time you get back in it will be half way through your opponents turn invariably after the block phase. Sometimes you can recover, sometimes that’s a death blow. This needs to be changed immediately. If the app crashes the game should end. Give the win points to the oppo by all means, but you can’t take it as a ranking loss if you being denied the opportunity to play. ✓ Well is just wasn’t friendly to a New player…So firstly I’ll say this I don’t know much about magic and what I do know is all from this game which did give me a basic understanding of how the mechanics work, however the tutorial was decent but not enough to be thrown in with actual players who know what they’re doing and have built their own decks, that brings me to the next thing getting cards is way too hard…. Like so hard to the point that I wanted to spend money which is probably what you want however I didn’t because I realized that even tho the concept seemed cool the underlying mechanics of the game were too complicated and not explained well enough for a new player to want to keep playing especially when all I’ve really done in two days is barley win against the bot and lose every single match I’ve been in because I can’t get any new cards without paying for them…. ✓ Old school to newHave played magic from the mid 90s off and on till today and have loved it magic arena is a decent version of magic but it’s missing a massive part of what makes magic so versatile and that’s the big game modes for many players and that’s multi player game types every thing from 4 way free for alls too two headed giant/dragon and game types like commander and emperor and I ever so much enjoy playing stuff like plane chasers I’ve played magic on so many different game systems and as of late I’ve played every thing from magic 2012 to magic duels on Xbox with an insanely amount of my friends for hours on end against non other then AI computers in 2 headed giant just to kill hours of time and see what kinda crazy stuff we can come up with an I feel like arena missed that mark completely plus with the insanity behind the new cards every like 2 months it fees like now keeping up with the card base and strategy behind decks is getting ridiculous and impossible too keep up with think you guys need to take a step back and reevaluate what magic was in the last 20 years and refocus your efforts too bring back the basics of magic which was too bring players from all aspects together and enjoy the creativity of building decks from what’s available in a game type such as everything from legacy to standard and everything in between we don’t need 100 new play sets a year when we are missing out on the foundation of team based game styles and the casual game experience.No name 4 youVersion: 2022.21.0

✓ Good for learning, trash for sustained play.This app is so well made and has a great tutorial that is super helpful for learning the game. Beyond that the actual game itself is ruined by over the top algorithms. They have taken every ounce of randomness out of a card game (I understand true randomness is not plausible on an operating system) to the point you can tell from starting hands if you are supposed to win the match or if you are supposed to lose. Granted there are plenty of good close games. But the game decides who wins and loses and it is very clear when you are supposed to lose. I play paper magic weekly so I’m well aware of mana floods, droughts, bad hands etc. but this app is very different. If you have a card that maybe isn’t the best for your deck, you are going to have that card in your starting hand almost every time. You’re on a winning streak? The game will decide it’s time for you to lose to get that win/loss ratio back down to 50% by giving you impossible hands, even on a well built deck. It’s a hopeless feeling and I’m not one to concede 5 times in a row just so I can possibly have a good match. This is especially frustrating when you pay gold or gems for an event only to find that even after a mulligan or two you are given impossible hands because it is simply not your turn to win. For instance don’t draft black in caverns of Ixalan, you can only draft low drop aggro, everything else will lose more than it wins. Overall enjoying, I now understand all the game modes and card restrictions, rotation, etc. take some time to familiarize yourself with the basic terminology. Overall I’ve been enjoying my time. ✓ Fun buggy mess now with less fun and more bugsWith the newest update they have nerfed a bunch of cards without replacing any of them with wildcards. Meaning that not only are a ton of cards now unplayable in all of the formats, you can’t even replace the cards with actually good ones. ✓ Try it out, just try not to spend.I’ve played for a good year now and even say I enjoyed the game. Sure the rigged matchmaking and shuffler were noticeable, but it wasn’t blatant enough to drain the amount of fun I’ve had playing this. Then I hit mythic once, and suddenly ranked became a mountain climb. Not that it wasn’t before, but imagine if on your next attempt several ledges or footholds were rigged to crumble and send you tumbling. That was when I started paying double what I used to spend on packs, to try working around the new meta of the new sets, and when I even bothered building a meta deck, you’d more times than not face your weaknesses or a mirror match. Once the game finds out you spend more to try working around matchmaking they’ll give you more absurd match-ups. Around this time was when I started experiencing those disgusting streaks of losses, and when you finally seesaw back to where you were, you hit another losing streak. Not fun losses, just the right match-up to shut down your equipped deck. There were times I’ve even had difficulty breaking out of silver to gold, a far cry from my first few experiences. ✓ Great to have portable MTG but...Playing on an IPhone X. Excited that MTG is finally on iOS. It took so long to get on the Mac I did not expect iOS to happen so soon. Overall, you can play on the iPhone but there are some issues. The screen is barely adequate: if you play decks that lead to complicated board states or lots of permanents, it’ll get hard to manage. Performance lags for me as games go long or if more complex decks are played (so don’t blame me for playing RDW or Neostorm). I haven’t tried drafting but can imagine it would be a pain if you’re not familiar with the cards and need to tap on each one. Straight away I could see the game is pay to win, as grinding games to get packs gets you nowhere and your starting cards are a joke. After pumping money into the game to get cards and wildcards I realised the game doesn’t let you be creative, as if your not playing the current meta decks you will get nowhere. But then even if you play the latest meta, you will constantly get screwed by the shuffler, matchmaking system and consistently going second. The prices are outrageous for packs and cosmetics and unless you want to pay extra you can’t get value out of the mastery system. Whilst I don’t have a problem putting money into a game I like WOTC has just gotten plain greedy with this system. I use Coveted Prize I think it’s called, to choose a card from my deck and it doesn’t select the one I’m trying to pick. Even if I hold my finger on the card to make sure it’s choosing the right one, it will not select my Kaya planeswalker. It chooses Leonin Bc they’re next to each other as they’re of the same mana level. It also doesn’t always add the counters I’m supposed to get on my creatures I choose and one other thing I can’t remember off the top of my head. But for a game you put a decent amount of money into, with bugs that are “make it or break it” as far as winning games this isn’t really acceptable. I only play Magic in person with friends once a week or so, and this is turning me away from Arena which I usually play daily. I would love a response from the game addressing these issues, but I won’t get my hopes up. If nothing happens, just out of principle I’m deleting the game and telling everyone I know that also plays what’s happening. A greedy move to force users to spend money more continuously as their established decks might not work anymore when cards are changed. They got a huge backlash on their website and social media, but as usual they ignore it (no user asked to modify Historic and actually all of them are saying they don’t want it). Wizards of the Coast assures their customers that the algorithms are “working as intended”. What this means is that they do not care about replay value or retaining players — only suckering enough beginning players to pay enough to keep money rolling. If they cared about making MTGA great, their marketers probably would have caught on to the notion that they are conditioning people to stop playing. They could be so much more successful if they weren’t so shady and under-handed. The “fairness algorithm” is a DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) scam that favors rigged equality of outcomes (over equal opportunity fair play). ✓ Very good MTG game but has a fatal flaw.To start, this is the best MTG game I've played on any platform. That isn't saying a lot, since most other games aren't great, but at its heart, Arena is a very good representation of the real thing and very well made. All of this to say, the game has a fatal flaw that, once you get to a certain point, makes the game unfun and nearly unplayable if you are trying to play the competitive modes. This is the "random" shuffling of the deck. Obviously this is algorithm based and appears to be random, but after playing a good number is games, it appears to not be so random and designed to keep you from ranking up as fast as you normally would. After 1-2 wins (and especially if you get 3 consecutive wins) it is almost a given that you will get a terrible initial pull off cards and have to mulligan and not just once but often several times. On top of this, too will get mana screwed in these games to nearly guarantee that you lose. I'm talking pulling 7-8 straight lands in some cases. 1/3 of its total lands consecutively which is almost unheard of, and yet, happens to me on a regular basis. ✓ Bugs & GlitchesI downloaded this game onto my new-ish iPhone that has never had any problems a couple days ago. The app glitched and closed several times during the tutorial, as well as during my finishing move in my first match. I thought that it would get better but it never did. It glitches and closes during about 8/10 matches, and has also screwed with my iPhone itself beyond belief. Even when the app is closed, my phone now freezes and will sometimes die before I’m even down to 20% battery. Plus, it freezes while it’s dying so my phone becomes out of commission for about 30 min at a time when this happens. This has never occurred with any other game on my phone, even the ones with tons of assets and that take up lots of storage. I have lots of free storage anyways, and I make sure to close all other apps and background functions while playing, so I’m at a loss. It’s a fun game and I have no qualms about the UI and gameplay itself, which is why the technical issues are soooo frustrating. I had to delete it because of the multiple consistent issues during game play and that my iPhone is experiencing when the app is completely closed. There is a workaround that involves deleting and reinstalling each time the fault occurs, but that isn’t a sustainable solution going forwards. The game itself is actually a solid 4 stars, with plenty of variety and a huge library of cards to play with. Arena used to be super fun to play a smattering of people with various levels of decks, you could even win gems in drafts. Not anymore, you’ll have to pay now. You’ll have to pay to make it in ranked or if you want some cool new sleeves or a pet or avatar. You WILL be “matched” against decks with a higher win rate against decks of your type. Your hand and subsequent drawing WILL be predetermined based upon the mana costs (if your average cost is 3, it will lock you out at 2 lands) and rarity of cards in your deck to force a lower win rate. You WILL lose to decks with 250 cards (which would never happen in real life). Don’t expect random draws and random opponents, that would be enjoyable, if you pay though…. You’ll win a lot. Bad news for the paper game cause if anyone transitions to paper they will see how it really works and constantly lose to subpar decks. Is it so hard to make random matches and random shuffles? The game was easy to understand difficult to master. The cards were straight forward, shivan Dragon spending mana to up damage was about as complex as the abilities were but the combinations were where the challenger was and it was so much fun. Now… you need a PhD and 50 hours to study each release. Each card has either multiple abilities or you have to chose two of 4 options. The combinations have become so complex this isn’t entertainment anymore. This is work. I suggest releasing a classic league for casual players to make the game more accessible to professionals with little time. The cards will be simpler with less complex combinations. ✓ Game has potential, but isn’t there yetA long time MTG fan, I was ecstatic when I heard that Arena was coming to mobile. The game looked interesting, and I hoped to play as much as I could. However, after playing the game for a few weeks, I started to find the glaring flaws that just kept on presenting themselves. For one, the card economy is a mess. Getting the specific card you want requires wildcards, which are only attainable through opening vast amounts of packs. These packs are technically able to be earned through challenges, but in no where near a large enough quantity to facilitate brewing multiple fairly strong decks. This over the top pay-to-play aspect is in of itself enough to discourage me from recommending this game to other people. That being said, this excessive cost may have been able to be overlooked if not for the other problem with Arena. Frankly, the game does not work well. I’ve had multiple matches in which I was unable to tap lands, or activate abilities of creatures for no reason but Arena not responding to it. I play on a new 2020 iPad, which works perfectly well for other games (and even for other parts of Arena) but the random inability to input has cost me quite a few games. As an MTG fan, I immediately felt that this digital version of the game would be great, and at first it lives up to the expectation. But it’s often very dissatisfying. It seems like there is no system for balancing player matchups: Many times I’ve been put against players with advanced and powerful (premium) decks, full of legendary creatures and powerful spells. They absolutely wipe the floor with me in just a few turns. I’m playing with the decks you start out with, while their decks feature creatures that are much stronger, cheaper to play and have additional abilities that are sometimes so overpowered, a single creature played means the end of the game. It’s not very much fun to play when there is genuinely no way to win. I’m surprised that there isn’t a card value system in place, where each card has an accompanying value according to its capabilities, and players are matched by their overall deck scores, or something similar. The aspect I always appreciated most about mtg was that it’s usually pretty even, and tactical play becomes a necessity. ✓ Worst card draw RNG mechanics I’ve ever seen…Been playing MTG for about 25 years now, and never in my life have I had gotten 15 lands in a row, or built a deck with four of every card. I need to run a combo and not gotten a single one until turns seven or more. They don’t use a truly random number generator to shuffle your deck. After looking into the mechanics of arena, they use a point value system and assign different cards point values and they have an algorithm that tries to feed you a certain combination for decent starting hands. The problem with this though is that you sometimes will end up getting either too much land or may be a single card that you need but then you won’t get anything else after that for several turns. I’ve had to concede too many times because either the algorithm is feeding me straight land for several turns in a row, or I get a decent starting hand and after that nothing, this would never happen in real life if you shuffle your deck properly. I don’t know what it’s going to take for them to fix this issue or if it will ever get resolved, but it has been an issue since I started playing the game when it came out. The game is designed very well visually and it’s nice that they have updated it regularly. Other than that the game is mid at best. The reasons why I am only rating this game 3 out of 5 stars is because of two reasons. Reason one, is the horrendous card shuffling algorithm in best out of three matches. ✓ So much potential but falls flat where it countsThe core game is there so that’s a win but no commander game type which is a huge loss considering it’s all most play nowadays. I still enjoy playing but can’t bring myself to spending actual money on cards since they are useless. At least put codes in booster packs to redeem in Arena, it would boost sales of physical and digital cards so much. People begged for Historic Brawl queues, so they charged for them and doled them out every few months. The most recent update of Alchemy ruins and upends the cards I thought would be safe to craft and use. Now at anytime they can change the functionality of the cards and not provide a refund of the cards I spent money on. The new cards they released with this update are so ridiculously pushed that they will be changed only after enough people craft them with the possibility of refunds. Even worse they will have two versions of the same card in the client, a paper version as printed in the normally game and the “Alchemy” version which can be changed at anytime. If WotC wanted to do Alchemy, they should have made it a new game on its own based on MTG. What they have done with Arena is just inexcusable. ✓ Too Frustrating CampaignThe campaign gets way too difficult too early on. Especially for players who have not played any or very much magic before, it gets really frustrating. There are several matches towards the beginning of the campaign where if you mess up one play, it’s over and you have to start the entire thing over. That is realistic towards the card game, but it is not appealing to new players who are unfamiliar with all the many different mechanics. The game waits for you to lose to give tips that are absolutely necessary to win in the campaign situation, and even with those tips, you still have to follow an exact pattern of moves to even have a chance. To make they game better and keep new or newer player interested, while also not frustrating experienced players, there should be tips/ more tutorial options that someone can turn on or off. When playing against a bot in the campaign, it would also be much more enjoyable if you could save your progress in a match so if you leave the app for two seconds or make a mistake, you can go back without having to go through the same annoying long set up of the match again. ✓ Keen for UI improvementsAside from the crafting economy issue in the game* Was super keen for the mobile launch, and glad it’s finally here. The game is still the same for the most part, which is fantastic but there are a few issues, mainly with visibility and using the screen interface. Some times when a player has 3 or more lands, only the top land stays present and the rest disappear unless you tap the lands or they add another one. Another issue is when there are more than maybe half a dozen permanents on the field the app will hide the ones close to the edges and you’ll need to scroll. I have had boards with a few dozen permanents and it was fine but sometimes you need to scroll to target a specific non land. This is one of the biggest pain points because typically I’m trying to target something specific and the action of scrolling with target where I first touch and ruin a play. Last smaller gripe is with the deck building UI, you only have the basic view with your deck on the right side. ✓ Quarantine and CrashingHi, I am under quarantine and this app has helped keep me happy and stable. However, three times now it has crashed mid-match during an interaction, an opponents turn, or even mine. I am running an iPad Pro 2020, so I cannot see any reason for this to be happening. Other issues I have encountered are; the deck editor (horizontal) doesn't allow me to see my spells with 6 cmc or higher nor my lands, and if my board state exceeds to the left of my display, it's gone and I am not able to tap on or read my cards, let alone declare them as blockers. However, my loading times are exceptional, I experience no frame lag or drops, the app is mostly very functional and admittedly, very fun. Thanks! ✓ Was fun until last update.Until the last update this was a pretty enjoyable way to play MTG on iPad. However, since the last date, it has become far to unstable. Before the update on the occasion it did crash, you could usually load back in quick enough to join the game before time ran out. Now however, it crashes a lot more often and when it does by the time you get back into a match you’ve lost your turn (usually causing you to lose the game). ✓ Cards with the ability to fry your electronicsDon’t get me wrong, this is a fun and challenging game however the balance is completely broken. The cards available are just far too overpowered... that is not to say my issue is with losing, it’s worse than that. Some cards are so overpowered there appears to be no restriction on the processing power they take up. Multiple times the same card “Peer into the abyss” has not just crashed the app, it’s immediately superheated my phone and made it unresponsive even to a forced reset. ✓ Good game, rigged appMtg is a great game. but this app simply takes away the fun by being rigged to make players fail and make them spend to think they will get better. draws are consistently bad when you get to a certain level, and you will always get matched unfairly. best of 1 format means you won’t really be able to tell if your deck is good since you never get the chance to cast anything decent. also, no real communications is allowed between players, and turns take too long. overall, if you don’t spend anything or try to get ranked higher then just play casually with the bots to pass time. otherwise stay away as this app might cause you to quit magic altogether. when you start seeing that almost all of your games you start with 2 lands and your opponent plays first, then 9/10 times you’re either getting mana screwed or flooded. this happens to my custom deck, 23 lands, 20 spells and 18 creatures. if this is not rigged against custom decks then why pre-con decks with same ratio don’t get screwed as much?!.DiablohhhVersion: 2021.11.0

✓ Works for the most partJust downloaded it today and the gameplay itself is fun. However my phone has crashed twice and the app itself has frozen on many accounts despite having a strong wifi connection. In regards to feedback for gameplay itself, if I had to exit the app for whatever reason mid game, the app would reset and by so doing, reset the game I was halfway through. ✓ Unplayable - counter mechanicI’m torn by this game because in many ways it’s so brilliant, however, some of the mechanics make it literally unplayable. It has the capacity to be really complex and exciting if you build the right combination of cards in your deck, but the majority of players seem to just play “destroy all creatures” spells over and over and over until you’re frustrated and bored. I’ve rage deleted this game repeatedly, and then re-downloaded, but I won’t be downloading again. ✓ Avoid at all costI would give it half a star but I cannot do so. The AI always has the advantage and even from the walkthrough to get players interested they fail. The colour challenge for example, there was no way you are going to win against the blue themed deck due to the fact they will pump out flying creatures almost instantly. You would think that just like in MtG in real life you are only limited to 4 of the same cards, but here almost by the 2nd draw of the AI he is pulling out Skyward Warden with an unlimited supply. ✓ MGTA but with interface lagI’ve been looking forward to playing this on iOS, as I don’t wanna be stuck at my pc playing... but I’ll wait a bit longer until this is patched. The interface looks fine but is way too laggy, sometimes the resolve button does nothing, tapping cards doesn’t do anything and the mulligan interface doesn’t work at all... it’s so hard to select the card at either end - end up choosing the same two cards. It kind of works, but the interface lag kills it. Maybe in another few months when it has more time in the oven.. Firstly, STOP with the Mario Kart I have won too many games so now I will lose a bunch or I have lost too many games so now I will win a bunch. It’s really annoying and doesn’t give good game play when this happens. Secondly, you need to diversify your Quests. They should have some like. Make an opponent sacrifice x creatures. ✓ Outclassed by modern digital ccgsIt’s not magic! It has the gameplay, pretty much.. and it has some of the same cards. But this is one of the worst ways to experience a fantastic card game. Arena tries *so bad* to be Hearthstone - even down to a lot of kind of predatory/anti-player practices. Alchemy was the last straw for me personally - I don’t like playing rotating formats, so Historic Brawl was my favourite, but having my cards changed out of the blue and getting more randomised junk added to the format just.. isn’t Magic.
