✓ Beautiful art, not enough representation, right-hand biasedPatterned is a lovely game that is soothing to play (if you choose it to be). I have a few quibbles. One is that you cannot move where the unused pieces are, which is not helpful if you are not right-hand dominant or if you just want to switch things up and use a different hand to move the pieces. It would be great if you could have the unused pieces at top, bottom, left or right. I play in landscape mode on my iPad so it may be that playing on a phone or in portrait mode there are more choices. I am increasingly uncomfortable with the Around the World puzzles as I have yet to find one where the person creating the puzzle has listed that region as their own. There is also more representation of white- and light-skinned folks in the puzzles that have humans in them. I would love to see Around the World puzzles focusing on creators from those regions, whether or not their subject matter is of the region, possibly a mix of both. Given the dominance of the Around the World puzzles I think there is an opportunity here to do a better job at representation while keeping the gorgeous art and satisfying game play..Version: 4.0
✓ Challenging to FrustratingOverall an enjoyable puzzle game. But there are some designs that don’t leans themselves well on the default settings. So I would suggest going into them and changing them to your liking. A recent update has resulted in the Apple Game Centre being right over the top of the “Done” button in the top right hand corner of the screen. This results in having to close out of the game completely..Version: 5.7
✓ Great concept, flawed executionI love the concept of Patterned. And I’ve spent many a tram ride home playing it. But the experience is ruined by some big issues with the game’s implementation. For one, you’re encouraged to place tiles perfectly to get a streak. But there are many times when the patterning so seamlessly lines up with the underlying grid that you can place a tile that *should* fit where you put it, but it comes up as incorrect. In this cases there’s literally no way to tell if your tile placement will work or not until you drop it. Or, as another reviewer mentioned, the times when you try to drop a tile in what *should* be the correct spot but end up dropping it on one of the copies of the puzzle around the edges, because it’s not made particularly clear which copy of the puzzle is the correct one. Other times the whole concept falls down because the some of the puzzles don’t even tile seamlessly, with very obvious crops around the edges..Version: 1.5

✓ It should be relaxing but it’s confusing and frustrating.So, the big problem, for me, is that it’s a repeating pattern, literally like wallpaper. Except, the area you are allowed to use is just in the center and, for reasons I don’t understand, there can be a perfectly viable place to drag your “colored piece” to and it won’t go there. Sometimes it matches perfectly in 3 places. But, nope those are the wrong places, it’s the 4th identical image that’s the correct one. The grayed out image is dim and hard to make out details, and the “colors’ are pretty muted, so, sometimes. You can’t even tell if you’ve “colored’ an area or not. Essentially this is a new kind of coloring book with a puzzle element, but, I have no idea why they don’t just have one image like an actual puzzle/coloring book, instead of using the continuous wallpaper style. If I were to give the developers notes I’d say, less watery, washed out colors, and a single image instead of coloring 50 wallpaper flowers. Some of the puzzles I enjoyed were of villages and shops, and, although they repeated, I felt more invested in putting a larger theme together..Version: 3.1.1

✓ Terrible user interface and no new puzzlesThe update says 725 puzzles, but the app says 486, with the latest ones from Christmas. Where are the new puzzles? Update: When you show all ‘All categories’ it says 486 puzzles, with them sorted newest first the ones from Christmas are at the top. When you try to sort ‘Puzzles around the world’ is says “Sorting options are disabled when viewing puzzles around the world” - why? How do you find which ones have been added?.Version: 3.2
✓ Basically it’s a jigsaw puzzleA jigsaw puzzle only easier because the shapes are simpler. It’s well made and designed, and very simplistic. You’ll need pretty good eyesight as the designs are quite intricate, and you can’t zoom in. Personally I find it pretty dull, but if you like jigsaw puzzles you’ll probably like this..Version: 1.5

✓ Not worth an Apple Arcade SubscriptionResponse to Developer: Thank you, but I will not be retrying your app. Disliked that obvious flaws were left to the user to identify. I was using it along with a few other apps to check out the quality of programs available through Apple Arcade Subscription. Not impressed, so cancelling my Arcade subscription as well. ————————————— Puzzle Pieces do not consistently “float” from under your finger so they are visible for placement. Some puzzles finish with multiple BLANK pieces which are a hit or miss guessing game for proper placement. Some puzzle “work” areas do not properly align with “border” areas. Therefore, the pattern tile does not appear to be “seamlessly repeating across the screen” as described. Vintage Northern South America Map Puzzle 98% Complete w/ no more pieces. Makes completing Around the World Traveler achievement impossible. Puzzle pieces sometimes snap up from under your finger into incorrect puzzle positions when attempting to select or scroll them. A quality puzzle has been played through before release to identify and correct many the issues I’ve listed. Therefore, I do not declare this app of the quality deeming it worthy of an Apple Arcade subscription price. Deleting from my device..Version: 3.1.1
✓ Relaxing game, a few annoyancesProbably deserves 4 stars but putting 3 so the devs are more likely to see my comments lol - A few other reviews have mentioned that since the patterns tile, sometimes there’s more than one place a piece can go that fits in the pattern but only one will be correct. This is super frustrating and my biggest grievance with this game. It could probably be fixed by cutting some of the pieces differently on those puzzles (I ran into this most on the pictures by Robin Skarbek because they tile the most) - On a couple of pictures the pattern isn’t tiled perfectly and there’s an offset that ruins the picture :/ doesn’t really affect the gameplay but it just doesn’t look as good - Most of these would make lovely wallpapers! With permission from the contributing artists, there should be a button to download the full image after completing a puzzle so we can use it as a lock/home screen background. There’s currently no way that I’m aware of to fully hide the UI for screenshots (after finishing a puzzle there’s still that round white button on the bottom) -Ability to search/sort by artist would be nice (I know they’re already ordered/grouped by artist but it would be nice to see them in sections or tagged as such from the menu) Overall I really like this game, hope it’s possible to implement at least one of the things I suggested :).Version: 1.0

✓ Great calming gameUpdate on review: Still like this game but changing rating because with the latest update some puzzles appear to be incomplete. I place all the pieces and the game says I’m done but there’s a wide band with no puzzle pieces through the design. Should I throw away the game and reload? ............... Like other reviewers I do embrace the relaxing nature of the game. And the designs are wonderful - diverse, adorable, beautiful and some very challenging. And the little animated parts are charming. But unlike other reviewers, I have no problem with some pieces appearing to fit one place but needing to be moved to another. I see this as just another part of the game to find a second similar design in another part of the puzzle. Don’t take away the challenge. While I’m waiting for more designs to be added to this lovely game, I’d like to see a button to undo all of the worked puzzles so I can start all over again. I know you can undo each game separately, but an overall setting would be great. Thanks to the developers and designers. You’ve given a lot of pleasure..Version: 3.0
✓ Perfect, except for copied elements of puzzlesI truly love playing this game and the idea of it. However, in almost every puzzle there are certain parts that are copied around, and make matching pieces infuriating. If I find a dragonfly or a flower that is exactly the same, there should be no chance of other squares also on the piece being incompatible. This has been at its worst so far in the Jali puzzle, where literally an entire 4 square piece appears twice on the screen. The only difference I can tell is that one was moved up a few pixels, and that is why it told me it was wrong. If this wasn’t the case, I would love playing through the entire game. As it is I don’t think I will play any more, as it ruins the relaxation I would get..Version: 1.5
✓ Beautiful but so confusing!This is a lovely puzzle game but one with the most frustrating and useless explanations I’ve ever tried to learn to play! Searched the opening screen for SIMPLE, straight forward instructions and as often as I tap the six obvious buttons I get no ideas, help, or the least clue how to even really play. I’ve stumbled into puzzles in the game by pure accident, pure accident which is why I’m writing now. These puzzles are truly fun and entertaining. But spending more time sorting through the designers idea of instructions takes all, ALL the fun out of the game!! ✓ No longer able to play, uninstalled.The last major update seems to have made it impossible to keep playing. Suddenly, the only puzzles I'm able to play are the ones I've already played which apparently downloaded to my device. The rest are greyed out. If I tap them, it tells me my device is offline and I have to select a puzzle that's already downloaded. I'm guessing this means that players are now required to be signed into Game Centre to actually use this app. As I don't use Game Centre, I guess I can't play this anymore. ✓ Wonderful puzzles...Love this game. Very relaxing. Play it for hours sometimes and perfect for playing in bed. I just wish there were more adult oriented patterns or some darker art. A lot of it seems rather bubbly and child oriented. I have encountered a bug with the game on the hidden puzzle “blast off”. I can’t complete it. I’ve got all the pieces except for on stair piece that is absent at the bottom. As a completionist, this is a bit maddening. Will be perfect once the above puzzle is fixed. One other suggestion is that, instead of having the piece hover under your finger, have it hover a half inch above your finger so you can see exactly where you’re placing the piece. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve put a piece in the wrong spot because my finger was blocking my view. Once these problems are addressed, I will gladly change my rating to a well deserved 5-star. Thank you! Update: All of version 3.0 new puzzles are missing an entire line of pieces. This game is so amazing, but these mistakes (and the still unfixed ones listed above) are really killing the experience for me. Come on guys!.Version: 3.0

✓ You can only play puzzles onceFound out what happens if you clear all the puzzles: the game becomes unplayable. You can’t play any more puzzles at that point. Resetting your progress wipes EVERYTHING, and there is no way to reset or replay only certain puzzles. Unfortunately, it appears they’ve stopped adding puzzles. The last puzzles were added almost a year ago. Since that, only very occasional bug fixes. So, sure, there is some fun to be had, minus all the other issues like it being hard/impossible to see empty spaces in some puzzles and this apparently being by design, but there is absolutely no replay value and some of the achievements are literally impossible if you play “too much” - which, given the number of puzzles in the game, is more than about three a *day*. Any more than that, and you run out before you can finish the achievements. And once you’re out of puzzles: that’s it, no going back and playing them again..Version: 5.1.1

✓ I want to like it…This should be a relaxing game. It has chill music… no timer to make you feel rushed… but unfortunately actually playing the game is weirdly frustrating. To start, the thumbnails are often misleading as to what the actual puzzle will look like. A clear, defined thumbnail often turns out to be fussy and packed with mixed proportion details that repeat multiple times with apparent minor coloration changes which of course can’t be seen. Maybe I need to visit the optometrist, but on some puzzles the pallet is so washed out it is hard to tell where/if pieces have already been placed or the resolution is so poor you can’t make out details. On many puzzles, placing one piece fills in multiple, identical details… BUT! there is only ONE CORRECT placement of the piece!?!?! How are the other locations “wrong” if they are identical and will auto-fill when you place the piece? I like the concept, but the effort to keep it from being ‘too easy’ often turns it into a game of ‘chance’ instead of ‘skill’.Version: 5.5
✓ Not working and can’t contact anyoneMy app won’t load past the “updating” portion. It will get about 25% loaded and then it basically feeezes. It’s been like this for weeks now, I’ve removed the app and redownloaded about 3 times and I’m still having the same issue. If someone could contact me, or just fix this issue, and also add a way for the consumer to contact the creators/editors, it’d be greatly appreciated. I only rated the app one star because I quite literally can’t use it and I want to grab the attention of someone who can help me with my problem. But when I can play it, it’s a 10/10 puzzle game. ✓ Needs two fixes1. You only have to be close-ish when you drop a piece. If you’re two or three blocks away, it will say close enough and snap into place. Too easy. 2. When placed, the pieces lose about 90% of their colour, which makes it very difficult to see the bits of the puzzle that you’ve completed (and which bits are still to do), makes it harder than it should be. ✓ Beautiful but glitchyThis game is fun and has some really beautiful artwork. However, in multiplayer mode it’s super glitchy. My husband and I had each started a game with each other and after the third turn my puzzle glitched out and turned into his puzzle! So we had two of the same puzzle going. It was weird. We just had one game going after that. After playing for a while, we can now no longer play multiplayer. We get an error every time. The error says, “Could not create game. Please remove existing game and try again.” Only problem is, we have no existing games! None! It’s frustrating and annoying..Version: 3.1.1

✓ Nice idea, poor executionA nice simple puzzle game with some beautiful artwork. Unfortunately the user interface really lets it down. Each day you launch the app it takes around 20-30 seconds to load - most of that time is the app “loading” the UI, not the Apple Arcade loader. Then the menu UI just feels sluggish. I’m on an iPhone 14 Pro Max so it’s not my phone. I gave up after about a week of playing..Version: 5.8.2
✓ Why?Frequently go to play the daily puzzle and it is out of date and says the puzzle for today’s date will “be available tomorrow”. ✓ It could be relaxingI like the idea, and for the most part I enjoy it. But there is one fundamental issue with the game. It really strains your eyes after a while because the contrast between the placed pieces and the bare spots just isn’t high enough. You have a white background, with very pale, coloured puzzle pieces on top of it. Towards the end, when only a couple of white patches are left, you really have to strain your eyes to see them. On top of that, you are staring and focusing on tiny details the entire time, which I could probably tolerate if it wasn’t for the other issue. It’s overwhelmingly and time consuming to trawl through the designs to get to something you really like. The new display triangle shape is also super annoying as you can’t get a good feel for the pattern before you spend you open it. ✓ Not for jigsaw enthusiasts and other UI issuesIf you are a fan of jigsaw puzzles, this is not the game for you. There is no way to disable the background sketch, so instead of trying to figure out how pieces fit together, you’re just matching pieces 1:1 with the sketch underneath. Personally I don’t find it much fun to build a puzzle if you know exactly what it looks like and where every piece goes. I can see how this might be enjoyable for people who are looking for something relaxing but not challenging, but there are issues with the UI that might still make the experience less pleasant. The whole gimmick of these puzzles is that they tile perfectly, yet you’re only allowed to place pieces within a single square in the middle. At best, it’s a disappointing missed opportunity, and at worst, you will find yourself trying to place pieces outside the square, which gets marked wrong and interrupts any sense of flow or rhythm you had going. The pieces also don’t fit together in any sort of satisfying way; instead of the complex shapes nesting together perfectly, they just go wherever and and the gaps are filled with single-square pieces. Not really a big deal, but just another thing that missed the mark on the satisfying/relaxing vibe that they seem to be going for..Version: 4.1

The patterns repeat many times and there are multiple spots where a puzzle piece count fit - but as there is no grid the game will simply reject a placement because it was not the intended spot even though it clearly is the correct graphics. ✓ Feels wrong…The pictures for the puzzles are all pretty, but none (that I was able to find) of the artists were representing their own countries… The way the puzzle attributions are set up, it gives the artist’s name and what country they’re from in the image description…. And as a quick for example, the Central American words puzzle was drawn by a Russian 😐 Not that artists from different cultures aren’t allowed to draw outside of their own culture, but this game takes it too far. I shouldn’t be seeing African culture portrayed exclusively by white folks, for example. No Chinese artists did anything in the Chinese art section, no Latinx artists contributed art for Central or South American art, not one artist “From Africa” can be found in the African art… If ever there was a clear cut case of cultural appropriation, this is it. I want to like this game because the concept is great and the pictures are lovely to look at and watch come to life as they’re being put together… but I can’t. There are millions of underrepresented and misrepresented artists from all cultures. Go do a Twitter search or a Reddit search or any art forum search and you’ll find all the artists and art you could ever want..Version: 4.0
