Golf On Mars for Negative User Reviews

Fun game brought down by bugsI completed and loved desert golf, and was very excited to see a follow up on the App Store. However, the new additions introduce a lot of game breaking issues that makes Golf on Mars inferior to the original and, at times, unplayable. On multiple occasions there are levels that cannot be completed due to terrain that is too high or obstacles in the way. This requires just waiting around for the 25 shot cap to be reached in order to skip the level and move on. The last hole I played before deleting the game altogether saw a rock fall on top of the hole, me burning 25 shots to reset the level, and the game screen filling up with gray with no option or score counter. I really loved Desert Golf, and I really liked the addition of spin and newer terrain to Golf on Mars, but the game is too buggy and too “incomplete” to recommend..Version: 1.05

Great but buggyLove this game as much as the original but disappointed to get 160 holes in to find it’s generated a mountain that’s impossible to get over as it too high for any shot. Sort it out! Suppose I have to start all over again.Version: 1.01

Fun until it becomes unplayable and impossible to restartWas fun for a while, and then I reached a point where the game was unplayable. There is no user interface for restarting the game, so it kind of feels like I wasted $2.99 buying it. If it had been free I would have rated it well for the time I was enjoying before the game became unplayable and impossible to restart..Version: 1.05

Seems unfinished to meAny golf game where you get holes that literally can’t be done seems like it was developed and published too fast. Please solve this problem. Even allowing a skip at any time might convince me to install again..Version: 1.05

Fun turns to frustrationMeh. Good for a little while. Bugged me that there is really no competitive element unless you create it yourself by tracking your averages. But the impossible holes. Why no skip available until you take 25 strokes? Often one impossible hole means the next is also impossible and maybe the next. So 75 wasted strokes just because the dev is lazy? Delete!.Version: 1.05

So infuriatingWith most games, the better you get, the easier it becomes. This stupid game throws in holes every once in a while that are physically impossible based on the limitations of the game where the only option is to spend 26 strokes trying to make it before it finally lets you skip that hole. And if you're good enough to make a perfect shot land directly in the hole, don't get excited - it WILL bounce out. The physics of the game are also stacked against you - if the ball is going up a hill away from the hole and reaches a stop, it won't return back down the hill towards the hole when it's in your favor. HOWEVER, if the ball is rolling up a hill TOWARDS the hole and reaches a stop, it will immediately pivot backwards and pick up momentum in the opposite direction to roll as far from the hole as possible. I'm 170 levels in, and this has proven to be true on dozens of holes with the same grade of steepness on hills..Version: 1.05

Doesn’t work on my iPad ProEvery other hole or so you can’t hit the ball any more. The only way I’ve found to fix it is to delete the app and start from scratch..Version: 1.05

Golf on MarsBoard after 5 minutes, no challenges, just repetitive. Save ya money for something else. Trust me.Version: 1.05

Hole 179Pretty sure there’s no way to sink this one. And even if you could violate the laws of physics and somehow do it, there’s no chance of making the next one (#180). What gives? Is this a bug?.Version: 1.05

Cool concept but got stuckI am on hole 13 and my ball fell into an opening less than 1/4 inch wide and fairly deep. I’ve tried too many times to escape and can’t. Force quit and it helpfully remembered my progress. I can’t figure out how to play anymore..Version: 1.05

Eventually impossibleSurely with a procedurally generated game you have parameters which don’t involve impossible situations. I reached one after a couple of days on hole 251. I played the original and enjoyed it, this seemed to be an easier version with a different colour scheme and slightly different physics... maybe, until I reached the point of impossibility. Won’t be buying any more games from these guys..Version: 1.01

Fun, but impossible holes spoil itI like this game, I really do. It’s a good, simple game to occupy yourself with while listening to music or podcasts. However, a few aspects can spoil the zen mood this game seems to be going for. Namely, the impossible holes. Every so often you come across an insurmountable wall, and the only option to move forward is to hit the ball 25 times and skip the hole. This is frustrating and happens every ~25 holes or so. In addition, I encountered a glitch after hitting the ball into a pit, and the camera got stuck at the bottom. No amount of restarting the app could fix this, and I had to reinstall, which sent me back to the beginning of the game. In conclusion, this game is fun, but the terrain needs work, and there are occasional glitches that can be frustrating..Version: 1.05

Impossible holes ruin experienceI love this dev and their games. Desert Golfing was a favorite of mine for years. At first Golf On Mars seemed like the ideal sequel, more mechanically sophisticated and just as oddly compelling. But then around my 40th hole I hit my first impossible hole. Had to putt the ball around till 25 strokes and then skip the hole. Then...again, around hole 100, another impossible one. OK...didn't bug me much, kinda amused me. Skip. And then another...and another. What? I've probably come across at least close to a dozen now. What's even more infuriating, some impossible holes are impossible to get OUT of. So it's 50 strokes to get past them. Miserable. It's not that it spoils the fun of trying to keep a low stroke count even. It's that smacking the ball around till you can skip (at 25 strokes), especially having to do this again and again after coming across these impossible holes, feels totally miserable. I don't want to play this game anymore. Desert Golfing always felt great to play. Gold On Mars makes me anxious I'll run into another impossible hole at any time. Why should I play it then? It's enough to kill the fun for me..Version: 1.05

Good game ruined by poor onboarding and huge bugsIt’s a game that revels in its own pointlessness, and for that it’s a joy. But the onboarding experience, which the developer likely thinks of as a voyage of discovery, is instead just infuriating, leaving you to discover key features like how to put spin on the ball, or how to pan around the course for yourself. Even the settings menu is made invisible. It’s also massively buggy. It frequently interprets a two-finger swipe to pan gesture as a shot and randomly fires the ball off. Occasionally it will randomly return a ball to the tee for no reason. If you scroll while the ball is moving it will sometimes return the ball to the tee as well. It all just combines to turn a gentle time waster into an infuriating source of frustration and annoyance..Version: 1.05

UnfinishedAddictive game but when it gets stuck there is no way to skip ahead. I had to delete. Game shouldn’t be in the App Store, charging money, when it is this unfinished..Version: 1.05

Fun 90% of the timeThis is a great game that has provided hours of entertainment (i’m past hole 10,000). But sometimes there’s an impossible hole that just can’t be done, and that ruins the experience. I still recommend it butI really wish the dev would find a way to fix this. Clearly other people are annoyed by this too..Version: 1.05

Is this all? After a few thousand holes it starts to feel a little repetitive..Version: 1.05

Desert Golf sequel disappointsGet the original. There are a number of literally impossible holes as well as others that become so with game play. (Rocks that move and block the hole.) Further, the holes are often off the screen and only become visible with movement of the ball to the right. A sometimes frustrating follow up to the brilliant original..Version: 1.05

Fun game let down by Impossible HolesI don't know how the terrain generation doesn't check for impossible holes. Some of them are far, far beyond impossible. Also, the settings reset every time the game opens..Version: 1.05

Eerily beautiful, but mandatorily impossibleDownright amazing for people who grew up during the polygon era, but you absolutely have to defy gravity on holes like 719 or take 25 strokes as a penalty. You should be able to skip immediately and take the penalty rather than waste time taking 25 sometimes agonizingly slow shots. What’s the impact if the game has so many holes to play through? Please update with an instant skip. I’d take 50 strokes penalty for that..Version: 1.05

Bit of a cash grabPlayed thousands of pars in the original and was hoping for a bit more in this. This game could had easily been an update than a stand alone. All it has is a slightly different graphics style (debatable if it is actually better), a cool ball spin mechanic and some ui/camera improvements. There is no point in buying this game if you have played the original..Version: 1.05

Almost PerfectMust downgrade due to holes that are impossible to play. The holes had no openings to advance the ball. Have encountered 2 holes after 250+ like this. Skip is allowed after 25 strokes which is added to score. Desert Golf does not have this bug. Love the concept of both games and appreciate the challenge of making the perfect shot but game algorithm should allow an opening for that perfect shot. Maybe the game makers are proving a (true) point... some things will be impossible on another planet lol. But for a game it simply adds frustration and makes playing less enjoyable. Hope this is solved with update..Version: 1.05

Lacks the charm of Desert GolfingHas more features than its predecessor, but has become more unnatural and at times exposes scenes that are downright annoying. Still a strong example of how simplicity can make a successful game..Version: 1.05

Options don’t persistZoom out and high score resets after game restarts. Please fix..Version: 1.05

Poor terrain generationGenerates too many flat-out impossible holes - high vertical overhangs in particular - (can be skipped after wasting turns) for its scoring to be meaningful..Version: 1.05

No instructionsNot all have played the previous versions! There’s no instructions. Nothing at all! No tutorial at the beginning. No text. No beginners guide.. No way to know how to use spin, how to reset to the starting point of a shot, how to skip, etc. Minimalism stretched too far... feels like laziness. Don’t bother..Version: 1.05

Nothing new or challenging after 200Up to 3400. Okay time waster but whatever algorithm is used doesn’t change after 200 or so. Pretty lame..Version: 1.05

Not better than the original. It's a good game, with enough new techniques to make it worth a buy. I'll warn you ahead of time that some of the holes will have you scratching your head in frustration. Like others have commented before, the impossible holes make this game less than appealing..Version: 1.05
