Sudoku by MobilityWare+ for Negative User Reviews

Painfully easyThis is very much for beginners with no way to skip the mind numbing easy learner puzzles at the start. Had to uninstall because I don’t want to grind through easy solves to get to harder puzzles (assuming they are there later on).Version: 1.1.0

One feature drives me nuts!!!!On the Daily Goals, any goal that involves “back to back” is virtually impossible to satisfy. To me, “back to back” means either (1) complete the required number of rows, columns, etc. in succession, or (2) complete the required number of rows, columns, etc. right next to each other. Nope, neither will satisfy the goal. So now whenever I see any goals that are “back to back” I choose the option to select a different goal, BUT all of the alternate goals are substantially lower point values. Not fair!!! PLEASE either provide your definition of “back to back” or fix this!!! Would rate this game 4 or 5 stars but for this issue!.Version: 1.4.1

Too many hints especially in a expert modeEven in Expert mode you get hints, eg bold numbers when you select. Number, stacks next to numbers saying how many are left, numbers go grey when all nine found. Please have setting to turn off / remove all of these. In Expert mode you don’t want ANY hints at all. Spoils an otherwise nice version of Suduko.Version: 1.1.1

Good for beginners. More advanced players look elsewhere.I like the clean presentation, and the colors do add a lot to help with visualizing the field. For better or worse, this is definitely geared for beginners. Even on the “expert” setting, I spent more time plugging numbers into my grid than solving the actual puzzle. This could be a great app for all levels, but to do that: 1. More advanced puzzles. The “expert” might rank as a medium on the NYT app at best. 2. Auto fill as an option to turn on. It’s REALLY nice for more challenging puzzels to hit a button and start solving. Nice QOL feature in most apps now. 3. Have the option to highlight squares and notify the player on wrong answers. This really needs to be in the settings. Not automatic in the game. Again, a nicely presented, clean game. After spending 30 minutes in the app, I probably won’t be back because of the above, but it is a nice intro to the puzzles, and it has great presentation..Version: 1.4.1

Too many hintsEven with hints turned off and on expert mode, the way the interface works, it is basically telling you which number to use. Makes it far too easy and defeats the purpose of the puzzle. Please update so that note taking doesn’t directly reveal correct answers and just allow mistakes to be made..Version: 1.1.1

Wanted to love itThe only issues I have with this app is that you get hints even when you have them turned off. When I touch an empty spot I don’t want the numbers highlighted that haven’t been used. Or the last spot in a 3 x 3 and it highlights the only unused number. I also dislike that if you make a mistake it alerts you right away. I also would love a dark mode. No colors. Just black and white. I find the colors to be rather obnoxious. Make this app more challenging please..Version: 1.1.1

Made by people who don’t understand sudoku. The note taking is off by default and difficult to interact with. There is no way to add multiple notes at once. The note taking is a moot point, because Expert level never has more than a pointing pair or a locked candidate. No required X wings, and I think the developer’s brains might explode if they had to think about how swordfish or y wings. The “assistance” it gives by greying out numbers for a highlighted square is only mildly helpful because it only considers the surrounding cell, not the row or column values..Version: 1.1.0

Mixed feelingsVisually appealing for most users due to vibrant colors. Really hard to identify status at earlier stages in play for most themes. Makes it easy at later stages. Classic view seems unusable visually while removing the hinderance aforementioned. Like the count indicators. Needs note taking like others have mentioned. Also would like some sort of obvious cost to failed attempts. Good start. Can be improved..Version: 1.0.0

Major developer errorI am just learning to play Sudoku, but my understanding is the number patterns can not be repeated. In one block of 9X9, I found 4 errors before deleting the game. I did message there online “support”, I got the typical cut and paste response that offered zero help. Don’t waste your time, game is unplayable!!!.Version: 1.0.0

Too easyThe game auto corrects you if you enter a wrong number, with no way to turn this setting off. It makes it way too easy.Version: 1.1.0

Too easyI’m no expert at sudoku, but this is a breeze even on the hardest setting. The daily goals also add nothing to the game, infact, for me they spoil it, not appropriate for this type of game. On the plus side, I find the game visually appealing. The coloured squares really help in so many ways. I will be deleting the game, I need something that works my brain..Version: 1.1.0

No notes? There doesn’t appear to be a way to take notes, which makes higher difficulty puzzles a real slog. I understand the app is trying to be simple, but removing that element ironically makes it more complicated to enjoy. It’s fine if all you want are simple, five-minute puzzles that you can do without thinking too much..Version: 1.0.0

Good for complete beginners to learn, but useless for playingGood for complete beginners, but "expert" setting is like "medium" on normal sudoku. 31 answers pre-inserted on the most difficult setting, compares to ~23 for hard on most games. It's hard to understand why they don't provide a normal difficulty range, it can't be much more effort? Similarly the pre-highlighting correct guesses, and immediate feedback on entering an incorrect note, are good for a beginner learning, but ruin the game for anyone who already knows how to play sudoku..Version: 1.4.1

Concerned about a patternI want to start with saying I actually like the mechanics of this game very much. I enjoy the color coding and how easy it is to see what I’m doing. I am concerned though because one of the puzzles I got was set up as a swastika. Not swastika like, it was a swastika. I don’t know if these are randomly generated (but I’m guessing they aren’t) but this just seems very weird. When I brought this up on Facebook or Twitter I received no response. This is weird and I would like to think there is a reasonable explanation, but it’s a swastika..Version: 1.0.0

Simple but fun. Could use some improvement.Helps you learn how to look for what you need. I wish we could turn off some of the features to make it more like when you solve them with a paper and pencil. I’ve been doing Sudoku puzzles for years, and would like to be able to turn these features off. Also, I would like a way to take notes in the individual boxes like in other Sudoku apps..Version: 1.0.0

Doesn't know what it wants to beIt's fine. It's sudoku. The harder modes are not as hard as they could be but having numbers color coded and the immediate feedback if a number is wrong makes all of it a lot easier. My biggest issue? You can't just play sudoku. There's like, daily quests, leveling. Who do you think is playing this game? Get rid of it. Give me a thousand well-made sudoku puzzles and get out of the way.Version: 1.1.0

Worse than the free version! The non Apple Arcade version is better, more difficulty levels and you can pencil in memory joggers etc while you solve the puzzle. You cannot do this on the paid version!.Version: 1.0.0

Too much stuffThe game itself is fine, although “Hard” seems more like “Kind-of Hard “. my real complaint is all the extra junk that has nothing to do with the game: levels, bonuses, challenges. i do not want that. it wastes my time. i have ZERO interest in that stuff. i’m an adult who wants to play Sudoku, not a 7-year-old who needs enticements to do their chores..Version: 1.1.0

This is a total waste of timeThis is a colossal waste of time for any Sudoku player beyond the most elementary level. I am at level 322 and only now getting to puzzles the NYT would rate as Easy. And you have to complete four perfect games to prove you are worthy of advancing to another level. So I have spent much time doing over 1000 puzzles to get to a level that is modestly interesting but not in the least bit challenging. And there are these weird graphics and side games that give you points, but to what end is never explained. I think there’s probably 1000 levels and times a minimum of 4 complete games to go to a new level I won’t do it. and I won’t do 4 perfect games at all levels. I kept going until the chance to write a review came up again.. I am so done. Again, a colossal time sink with no end in sight. Do not start on this if you are a good Sudoku player. I think this penalizes you if you ask for a hint. At level 322 I’ve never asked for a hint and you’d have to be an idiot to ask for one for any of these puzzles so far. Again, I am done and signing off..Version: 1.1.1

Well made but too easyIt's a well made app with a nice colour scheme. Big downside is that it's too easy, even on expert or the daily "challenges". Please make it harder!.Version: 1.4.1

Nice design but… let us make mistakesThere should be an option where we can make mistakes and have to swap numbers around… it’s too easy even on expert. Way more boring than real on paper version without this mode..Version: 1.1.1

Great for a beginner, awful for a sudoku playerIf you want to play on the highest difficulty, get ready to be stumped by unsolvable puzzles. When you try to use a hint to see what obvious logical step you’ve missed, the hint will simply tell you something you already know (this square can only contain one of these 3 numbers) and it’s generally not actually helpful to solving the puzzle, very occasionally, and seemingly only by pure chance, the hint will occasionally show you the hinge point of a Y-wing. However, most of the time, no Y-wings exist and the hint simply tells you information that any half-competent player would’ve already figured out. The mobilityware devs were too lazy to make an algorithm that made solvable difficult puzzles, and rather than tell you that, they just leave you to feel like an idiot, staring at a puzzle for quite some time trying to find a unique solution that simply doesn’t exist. It almost seems intentionally designed to be an awful experience for anyone above beginner level..Version: 1.4.1

Clumsy interface with tedious tasks and not hard enoughI play on the hardest level and rarely find a challenge. It is mostly just a fill in the notes game which is slow and boring. The interface makes it easy to click the wrong buttons and constantly deselects the numbers you’re placing which makes taking notes slow. The daily challenges very often end up being win 3-4 games in one way or another. (Ie complete xx rows, complete xx blocks, fill in xx 7’s). That can take a while for quick dailies because of how slow the note taking is. They are also very boring tasks and not challenges. There should be some time challenges, challenge puzzles, etc. None of the daily challenges should require more than 2 games if played perfectly. I also wish it would allow some shading in the squares to have additional marks..Version: 1.4.1

Far too easyThe expert difficulty is like Easy on any other app.Version: 1.1.0

Too easyI like the game but you need to make the puzzles actually difficult, with the fact it tells you when you place a number in the wrong cell makes the game a bit pointless..Version: 1.0.0

Very mediocreThis app makes some interesting design choices in the way it presents sudoku puzzles. I don’t see how the completed puzzle relates to the pixelated image you can sometimes earn upon solving the puzzle. The biggest negative I see of this particular app, is the fact that there’s a setting that allows you to turn off h automatic hints for potential moves. I have yet to turn this setting on, and it still gives you hints. All you need to do is highlight any empty space and it will make the remaining values in the 3x3 square in which you highlighted the space, stand out. Furthermore, the app calls you out if you make a mistake. If these aren’t hints, I don’t know what a hint is. It’s quite annoying actually. Furthermore, the daily challenges border on the ridiculous. Over and above ones like “place a 6 then an 8 two times" you’ll occasionally get a challenge that says something like "complete three columns back to back" whose definition of "back to back" is questionable at best. I got this challenge and played two puzzles by literally completing all nine columns left to right, and the meter never once went beyond a streak of 1. I simply can’t recommend this app to anyone over, say, the age of 8 when there are so many better sudoku apps out there. If you want a truly great sudoku app, look to the (non-Apple Arcade) one created by Conceptis Ltd..Version: 1.1.0

Good color, Poor interfaceI love the colorful sudoku tiles. It makes finding the blanks easier. But there is far too much wasted space in the interface. It makes you stretch to reach the squares on the board (and I’m using a 12 mini). It would help a lot if the Setting/Goals/Play/Hint/Theme menu was at the top, then move the numbers to the very bottom and the board directly on top of that. That would allow the game to be played one handed a lot more easily. The popups and game end text also looks pretty cheesy & borderline scammy. Quite jarring given the modern board themes..Version: 1.4.1

Weird bugGame itself is great but becomes frustrating to play when I need to select pieces on the edge - the game doesn’t respond properly to my selections so I need to tap those squares multiple times to select it.Version: 1.1.1

Functionally Not Challenging14k reviews and a 4.8? What am I missing? I loved this game until I realized it will not allow you to place an incorrect number in a square. So are you struggling? Just keep guessing until the games is happy with your choice. No thinking. No logic. Just guess. Now everyone can be an expert. My point: if you think you have the right number figured out for a square and it is not then the game will let you know it is wrong and in doing so often allow you to know the correct answer without actually solving for it. This often leads to a snowball win. So I win without actually solving it myself. Happens all the time. Allow me to fail or at least give that as a setting option, please..Version: 1.4.1

Improve hints and note takingI was really looking forward to playing this game based on the visuals in the App Store. However, I was disappointed in the system for notes and hints. I don’t understand a sudoku app that won’t let me make a mistake! Even with hints off, your options in note mode are limited to available numbers. And there’s no “back” button. Why? Because if you make a mistake (based on the solution, not the current inputs on the board), it immediately crosses it out and erases it for you. Even on expert! If you’re looking for a sudoku that provides a digital experience similar to pen and paper, this isn’t it. My quest for the right app continues!.Version: 1.1.0

OK for beginners but not very challengingTLDR: I really enjoy sudoku but there are only two in the arcade and they both have the same problems it seems. I’m a fan of PennyPress puzzle books (old school pencil and paper) and this just didn’t meet my expectations. Pros: Easy to read numbers with color/theme options, easy to find settings panel, hint options, good for beginners and novices. Cons: You can’t turn off visual hints - as in, you click a number and it basically shows you all the possible cells it can go in or you click the cell and it bolds or highlights the numbers it could possibly be and there is no way to turn this off. I tried turning it on expert mode and all it did was give me puzzles with fewer starting numbers, but left the visual hints the same, so not harder at all, just more time consuming. And it’s not something that you can just ignore, I tried, it’s frustrating. It feels like the game is holding your hand through the process and never stops making sure you figure it out. I want a challenge from my sudoku games, this didn’t have it. I don’t want the hints unless I ask, and I really don’t want to see the numbers that are the only options, it makes it way too easy and I just don’t feel any challenge in them at all. If you’re just learning sudoku or if you’re a bit rusty, this may be good for you, but if you want a real challenge, then look elsewhere..Version: 1.4.1

Automation overloadI like the game but don’t need all the prompting to get the answers and then a big ‘you won’ at the end. Cheers buddy, but the game is geared so I’ll always win and keep playing. Three stars because the personal satisfaction is missing, not because of the game layout. Aesthetic is pretty good..Version: 1.0.0

Okay for beginnersLove the colors and the fact that it highlights the row/column but defeats the purpose of Sudoko when it won’t let you place a number in the wrong spot- even on note mode..Version: 1.1.1

No challengeAs soon as you place any number in the wrong place the app tells you. It completely removes the challenge of a sudoku puzzle. Two stars is generous..Version: 1.1.1

Hints aren’t hintsThere are way too many animation screens after completing a game and the hints button doesn’t actually help at all..Version: 1.4.1
