✓ Seems a bit odd how checkmates sometimes happen.There was a way out of a good amount of them but the game automatically mentioned checkmate. Seems a bit odd. I’ll go to other chess game platforms..Version: 1.5
✓ Excellent game, one fatal flawThis game has been great, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. There is one thing about it that greatly bothers me, and that is that I can’t study the board after a friendly game. When I win, I can’t go back and look at the board to look for other outcomes and when I lose, I can’t even usually see how I’ve lost because the board gets covered immediately. It’s a very obnoxious flaw, and it is likely an easy fix, and I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t been updated yet..Version: 3.2

Over gamified with coins and gimmicks used in almost every other phone app! So annoying and hinders game play. Other than that it could be such a good tie in to the series. ✓ An insult to chessThis game looks terrible, plays incredibly poorly and crashes on every 6th move. This was an amazing show to watch on Netflix, and this game makes it look like a joke. A chess game that gives you coins when you make a “good move” and a button to play the best move on the board? “Beth’s Vision” complete with a weird animation of random moves on the ceiling… Why make a show about classical chess tournaments and then add an undo button. And where is the progression? I’m just unlocking backgrounds. Mr Shiebel is rated 300 and plays like he’s just drank 14 shots and my cat could make a better looking model of beth..Version: 1.1

✓ Finally bug fixedNow they have finally fixed the match making game bug. I can say this is rather a beautifully crafted game if we overlooked the first few months of unbearable and unplayable bug for matches. So take away 1 star for releasing a half baked game, another regarding reviews, you know what I’m talking about..Version: 1.5

✓ Pretty cool… for a Netflix game?I like the look of the game. Especially the lack of ads cluttering up space on the screen! 2D mode is really the only way to actually play chess (even tho 3D mode is by far the best looking chess I’ve found on the App Store) but unfortunately the 2D mode has issues tracking piece movements, especially when taking back pieces during games. 3D mode still shows correct piece placement but in 2D, pieces will disappear or reappear on the wrong cell, which means you can make some moves that seem illegal because you can skip over other pieces which are shown, but aren’t actually supposed to be there… meaning you either have to remember the entire board (which is very Beth but not the point of the app) or keep switching back and forth between modes. I would also say that some boards are a little difficult to read (like the gym chalkboard-looking 2D board). I’ll change my rating if the bugs are fixed!.Version: 1.2
✓ Error 7006No matter what I do I can’t login, i see that stupid error 7006 message suggesting to try later. Reinstalling game, restarting phone, reinstalling netflix, nothing helped. Would love to try the game but judging by the other reviews it crashes every minute anyway..Version: 3.2
✓ If you can’t stop it from crashing mid match… you don’t have a game.The game is pretty, music is great and the interface is excellent, but if you can’t stop it from crashing mid game against a live opponent and you don’t have any kind of recovery feature to put yourself back in the match, then you don’t have a game. ✓ Gorgeous app, not multiplayer viableI really enjoyed working through the puzzles and the visuals of the experience are great, but online multiplayer isn’t working - I just make the first move, my opponent never receives it then I win because they time out. ✓ Server issues and ELO TimerAt least 3 times today in the middle of an ELO game, “Sorry, something is wrong with the server”, and getting disconnected!!’ And no, it is NOT my connection so don’t even go there! Fix your server. And can we not have a 10 minute timer in ELO games? Tooooo long. This isn’t the US Open. 5 minutes would be good. Some of these player’s driving me absolutely nuts letting there timer go for 9 minutes before making a move. These idiots doing this, well it gets old. Make it 5 minutes please..Version: 3.2

Beautifully put together though. The tutorials are easy for my young ones to play through and develop their understanding of the game. ✓ Memory games and chess setsIt would be nice to add title to Memory game puzzles as they are effectively additional lessons. This way it’s easier to review them. Even better if they were moved to the academy for ease of navigation. Some boards and pieces both in 2D and 3D are hard to read especially in dark locations such as the Moscow hotel. Light spot on a board in 3D is too bright sometimes and doesn’t make it easier too see pieces at certain angles. At other angles it’s hard to tap distant squares to make a move or hard to see pieces behind others..Version: 1.3

Needs some tweaksThe goods: Chess is fun Queens gambit is a great tv series (book is ok) Graphics are adorable The puzzles are great The chess vs is fun The “view” ability is cool for when you get stumped The bads: Loading takes forever When you do not move perfectly it is so annoyingly time consuming when you are told you are wrong, then have to start all the animations all over again. ✓ DumbfoundedIf you are an absolute and I mean absolute beginner to chess then this would be too bad; but if you’re like me who has decent chess knowledge and selects that you are intermediate or above you will still be babied along the entirety of the early game. And don’t even get me started on the 2d and 3d views. Absolutely terrible to play with. 3d feels clunky and not responsive while 2d is almost too basic. It not easy to tell the colours apart until you get used to it and the chalkboard effect makes it even worse. Again, if you’re very new to chess and want to learn some stuff go ahead. ✓ It’s ok, but clunky.There’s a lot of polish, but the constant repetitive cut scenes, the slogging through the stars screen when you just want to restart a puzzle, the time wasting coin rewards animation (which you can click to skip, but you still have to press another button to move on) — it all adds up to an experience where you spend more time in the interface screens, rather than the puzzle screens. The whole experience needs to be slicker when it comes to the UI, which is clunky. The 3D chessboard is utterly pointless, it’s just not easy to see the board properly like real life. The 2D boards are sluggish and small, whereas chess apps like chess.com and Lichess are fast and uncluttered. I like the idea of this app, but treating chess with the same interface as a match-3 game app doesn’t work. Nobody needs 50 different custom borders or backgrounds for their nameplate. Having content locked behind coins or play gates isn’t fun. It feels like an app made to waste people’s time, rather than teach them chess. Which is a shame because it could be so much better..Version: 1.1
