✓ Needs workOk so I like this App BUT: The original episode app has a ton of issues. It’s basically pay to play which is outrageously annoying, except for the user stories which allow you to wear not hideous clothing and make actual choices without paying. You still have to deal with the “ticket system” though. Where the original app excels is the selection of stories. There are about 20 stories on episode xoxo Here’s where this app loses me - NONE of the stories are finished! I waste hours reading 15 chapters of a story for it to leave off with no real ending or answer to any questions. Literally what is the point? ✓ So UnprofessionalI used to play this when it was a payg app and it was much more polished. Apple this app is atrocious. The story I’m playing for example - royal bachelor - you don’t even have her dressed when the story starts. She’s in her underwear. And then the outfits with say stun in gold and it will be a pink dress. And the absolute worst is saying which one you prefer romantically, him or her,and her name is princess isabells and the dialogue box says Nicolas and as the story goes on it says Nicolas during the dialogue too. What’s happened? It’s like a 10 year old was left with it but frankly a ten year old would take better care and would be proud of their work. ✓ Barely even a gameI’ve been playing the Arcade version as I’ve been curious what these games are like, after seeing so many adverts for them. The ads suggested they would be cringeworthy, but what I didn’t expect was how boring the actual gameplay would be. It’s pretty obvious that your choices of dialogue make no difference to the overall story - at least not as far as I could tell. Some of the dialogue is utterly ridiculous and the characterisation is rice-paper thin. But it’s the first thing that I keep coming back to: what’s the point of playing something where your involvement has no bearing on the outcome? Isn’t that essentially the basis of a game? ✓ Okay game, needs more frequent updatesFirst of all, I want to start this off by saying I enjoy playing this game. There are a few things I would improve though. Starting with, why is the only gender role available a girl? It’s the 21st century and there should be plenty of other genders available. Secondly, the stories take AGES to be made. Maybe releasing more at once would make me go back to the game more often, as I often find myself finishing the stories and leaving the app once I’m done, a process that usually takes only twenty minutes at most. These are my major complaints. The rest is fine (except for an occasional glitch), and I like the fact that you can choose your own path. ✓ Ugh We’re Still Doing This??It’s clear from a quick glance at the story menu that this is a very hetero-centric series, with 90% of the storylines glorifying male/female relationships. To add to the game’s problems, it’s extremely obvious that the creators believe in the gender stereotype that only female-identifying people could possibly be interested in relationship storytelling. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a gay best friend in one of these stories, helping you pick out your purse for your big date while he lives vicariously through you. 🙄 I see some commenting that Lesbian relationships are depicted here and view this as progress. Sadly, that’s just more evidence that traditionally feminine bodies are being objectified to an even greater degree. Gay is okay if it’s two hot females, but any other queerness is not. I understand why there are no community stories, and that’s fine, but the stories on xoxo are very boring still. I would definitely use the app if the storylines were more engaging. Maybe some fantasy and mystery stories, stories without romance, and stories with more gender and sexuality diversity. Also, the choices don’t really matter as far as I can see, I would love it if they did and there were multiple different endings for each story. ✓ Not enough varietyI want to start off by saying how nice it is to have one of these interactive story apps on the arcade. It makes a huge difference to not have diamond options that make it so expensive to get the most out of it. That being said, the stories that are available are all so tame, so average and so formulaic. There’s not a lot of genres to choose from. So far, they’ve all been pretty PG. I understand this is a free version (aside from the arcade subscription), and it just really seems like this is all Episodes is willing to offer without expensive diamond choices. ✓ Stories unfinishedI’ve read almost all the stories and I noticed some of them end at the most random way places. They aren’t even finished which is extremely irritating. For example, I just “finished” reading “No time to love” and episode 15 just seemed like a huge cliffhanger and it didn’t make any sense for it to end where it did. ✓ UnfortunateGreat backbone to a game, I just wish the storytelling was a little better and not so obvious. You can kind of guess where everything is going. But that’s not my biggest issues. Not understanding why as an Apple arcade game you wouldn’t beef it up to outdo all the other story games out there. Where is the different genders? Or at least the top three: male, female and non-binary. Love that there’s afro styles and great skins color and hair color options but very little queer options besides lesbian. Just wish there was some more diversity on that end. Also can there be a setting where a story is continuous and isn’t dropping to the chapter menu? Having to press Continue every time is annoying. The only bonus is that you don’t need to buy gems like for the other games, but when the options aren’t great it doesn’t mean much. It also feels much slower and clunky. However, the stories to pick from aren't very diverse. All of the stories available also don't let you play as a man/masculine person and are all in a feminine/woman character's POV. ✓ "POINTS SYSTEM" IN THE NEIGHBORI've read The Neighbor and wanted to go back through and read it again. According to the start of the story, there's a "points system" that gives you access to special scenes depending on the choices you make in the story. For starters, there's no indication whatsoever of the "points" readers just have to hope that they get the special scenes. Second of all, I've re-read it so many times and made almost every combination just for none of them to be good enough to earn the special scenes. I, personally, think it's absurd for you to have a "points system" in game and then past the opening scene where it tells you to "make the correct decisions" NEVER address them again. Something needs to be figured out though because I love the game. This issue needs to be resolved because readers are missing CRUCIAL parts of the story because of the "points" they don't have. Every time i get to a special scene, the screen says "calculating points" then always says I don't have enough to access all the "special scenes." I'm starting to think the special scenes don't even exist, and if they don't, then don't advertise a points system and special scenes if readers will never attain them..Camryn soeightsVersion: 1.0.5

✓ Much better than the original Episode GameThis game provides a much better experience than the original Episode game. I enjoyed it so much that I redownloaded the original game, which was certainly a mistake, as staggering paywalls block any semblance of a fun experience. Episode XOXO would be a lot better if there was a wider variety of episodes. Furthermore, there are one or two writers that provided content that is absolutely awful. A few of these stories were impossible for me to get through. I feel like a wider variety of stories would allow users to find genres that they enjoyed, more than just romance. Across the board, this game is MUCH better than Episode, but it could use improvement. I would recommend this game to someone with a few hours to burn, but true lovers of reading and fiction should head over to wattpad or webtoon, as the quality of these platforms is so much higher than Episode. ✓ Okay for what it isIt's alright I guess for what it is. The quality of the stories is a little all over the place and some remind me of mediocre harlequins with contrived drama. I think its more likely to appeal to people younger than an adult like I am. And, I've always had some issues with things like this that say 'it's you' while giving your 'you' so much premade backstory and limited dialogue options but if that doesn't bother you there's some fun to be had. ✓ Linear and Dull.Unlike the original, your choices are meaningless. An interactive fiction game is supposed to be - as the title suggests - interactive. Put it this way. Games are cars. You control them, and take them where you wanna go. The whole point of a car is to drive it, like in a game, the point is to play it. This on the other hand, makes me the passenger, I am practically watching someone play it, which would be fine if it was like reading a book, in which you are captivated and eager to find out what happens next, but alas, these stories don't even hit that mark. All of the characters are bland with plot lines that follow a stupid formula that's way overdone. Big change, (example: move), meet most beautiful person you've ever met, they just so happen to fall for your 1-dimensional meaningless traits, and we all live happily ever after. In the original, non arcade game, the community created stories are what make it. Whilst the OG is riddled with micro-transactions, some fabulous creators write fascinating tales in a variety of genres, without having to pay at all, that put Episode's to shame. ✓ Fun game…BUT**UPDATE** Y’all are doing a really terrible job at updating this game. The same story going on for now almost two months. One chapter added per week that takes 10 minutes to finish. This has gone from a 3 star to a 1 star. Do a better job updating this game. This game is actually quite fun to play. I love how the stories go, but there isn’t enough of the different episodes on here. It would be nice if the episodes were added to this game more frequently than they currently are added. It is nice that unlike the other versions of the game where you had to pay real money to enjoy the game, it is really nice that you do not have to on this game. It’s great to have female leads, but we should be given an option to play Male, too, or at least be given some female driven, some female driven stories. Also, I got the opinion that your choices don’t have a whole lot of consequences in this game. I enjoyed one episode, might play more, but I thought that was a pretty glaring oversight. ✓ It’s the storiesThe app is what it is. The animation looks clumsy, there’s a limited range of actions and so on. There are crashes and soft locks (sure they get fixed but it betrays a weakness in the engine). Frequent issues with names and genders where a wrong name will be used or even the compound identifier used for customization. Names on speech balloons are sometimes wrong and often the tail is in the wrong place. The real issue are the stories. They are uneven and frequently sloppy, sometimes inconsistent or even to the point of devolving into incoherence. If it weren’t for a few gems it would be a waste of time. The good ones can be quite compelling and even the limited animation really adds to them. So the highs are good but the lows are pretty low and the median is not compelling.ThoromyrVersion: 1.0.8

✓ Love the lack of micro-transactions, hate the lack of diversity.I was very drawn in by the promise of no micro-transactions but I ran into a problem before even starting a story- there’s no way to be a non-female character. There’s no way to even make a character who doesn’t look female. This makes the game unplayable to a large portion of potential players. The lack of plot diversity is a problem too, as all of the stories are essentially the same- human girl falling in love with a human guy (and rarely a human girl.) There’s no mystery or adventure stories, no magic or supernatural settings, nothing beyond a female character looking for a date. If you are a stereotypically feminine female looking for basic romance stories, go ahead and give it this game a try. The app appears to be nothing but a sales funnel for the regular Episode app, which is built on an outrageous business model designed to manipulate people into spending hundreds of dollars on their stories. Until now, I considered Apple Arcade to be a solid catalogue of quality games, and that’s why I’ve been glad to pay for it. ✓ InterestingThe stories are good and I enjoy not having to pay for all my choices or wait for tickets. However, there are improvements to make it better. For example, the library is very limited there aren’t very many stories to play and I’m almost done with them all! Also, the endings to the stories are rushed, and Wedding Fever doesn’t even have an ending! It leaves us on a cliffhanger and you can tell it was meant to be longer than 15 chapters.
