✓ Remove ads and Family Sharing is deceptiveThe description for the option to remove ads says that the “purchase is family shareable” - but this is false. I paid the steep $12 to remove ads thinking my icloud family members would be able to play the ads-free version. In the app’s “contact us” FAQs, they apologize because multiple devices using the SAME APPLE ID have access to no-ads, but that the app is not compatible with Family Sharing. This is deceptive marketing, and the price is really not justifiable for how simple the game is. The game is ok, it’s standard. Some of the features are cute, the color scheme is pleasant, and the interface is fine. If they were up front about the pay, I might have kept it, but we gotta draw the line somewhere..Version: 3.0.6

✓ Good puzzles, frustrating interfaceThe puzzles are good overall, although Hard puzzles can be solved by looking mostly at naked pairs and simple elimination. Expert level puzzles utilized swordfish a lot, at least in the puzzles I played. There are a lot of Sudoku games out there and ultimately for me it comes down to interface. I found myself hitting the wrong number multiple times and the highlighted squares blend so well with the background it makes them difficult to see. Since you are playing against the clock to boost your score, this can be quite frustrating. Undo is a two step process. Finally, there is no way to purchase your way out of seeing the pop up ads, so those are there for you to enjoy forever. The hint system is quite good and educational, truly the best part of the app..Version: 2.3.17
✓ Almost greatThis app has by far the best interface I’ve seen in a sudoku app. But the difference between Hard and Expert levels is just far too great. The Hard level is pretty easy for an intermediate solver; sure it takes more effort than lower levels but it’s not any more challenging. But the Expert level is basically impossible for an intermediate solver, it nearly always requires advanced techniques, like something called a Sashimi X-Wing for example. The hints do show you these techniques but they don’t explain them at all, so it’s not possible to actually learn them from this app. I don’t want to go somewhere else and study up, so this app, beyond the interface, doesn’t really offer anything for someone at my skill level..Version: 3.0.7

✓ Miss old color scheme - I’m color blind !I’m color blind & the old color scheme B4 the last update worked great for me ! I could see the numbers in the different rows & in the 9 different cubes all at once. Now since the update the columns of numbers & the cubes run together as they don’t pop out to this color blind person anymore. I contacted customer support & asked if I could have the old color scheme back, they said that that was no longer available. Customer Support did ask if I had checked out the different options on the new update - & I told them that I had already tried, & non of the option seemed to help. Then Customer Support asked if I had tried adjusting the color blind settings for my IOS device. I told them that I didn’t know about that setting. I played around with the different options & it seemed to help a little bit, but nothing like the old color scheme B4 the last update. I’m still having some problems seeing the rows ,columns & cubes. Because the numbers no longer pop for me -thus it takes me longer to solve the puzzle’s. Still can’t beat my old record times before the last update. Also I would like to be able to compete with my friends playing the same games - even at the exact same time & I don’t see any settings for competition like that..Version: 3.0.3
✓ DisappointedI’m somewhat disappointed in the recent update. The new layout offers several themes to the background of the game. However, the options to change the visual effects on the sudoku grid are limited. I managed with the older options but find it too difficult visually to use the game as it is now. ✓ Disturbingly violent advertisementsI used to love this app, a really good version of the puzzle with useful features which could be turned on or off according to player preference. However tonight I am appalled by the advertisements which play at the beginning. One showed a cartoon game where an object is used to smash people over the head and blood spurts out. Another was in a foreign language with no way to close the ad after a certain amount of time; I had to exit the app and restart it. I won’t use the app any more until they pay more attention to the ads they allow. I’m off to look for an alternative Sudoku app..Version: 2.3.40
✓ Terrible updateI have been playing this game for a long time and this update has just about ruined it, and presumably colours system is supposed to help, it doesn’t, it makes confusing or was that the idea? ✓ You are an expert, immediately!Used to be a 5-star app. Unfortunately, as of June 1, 2020, the HARD-and EXPERT level games are now easy to solve — it’s largely a case of finding naked singles and naked pairs, one by one, like a beginner’s level. Barely anything in-between so not a challenge. For example, just played a game and initially, out of 81 squares, 27 were known and 54 were unknowns. The first 21 solutions were NAKED SINGLES, which is almost a whopping 40% of all solutions! I’ve used this wonderful app for years and this wasn’t the case before. HOWEVER, due to built-in suggestions, it’s still an EXCELLENT app for learning Sudoku! For advanced players, no longer the go-to app. (PS: the developer’s response to my review is disingenuous gaslighting.).Version: 3.0.1
✓ Too many ads that won’t close!!This used to be the best sudoku app by far. Ads used to show before the game started (fair enough…it’s a free app) but recently the ads have started interrupting your game. These ads go on and on and on and you cannot close them. ✓ Why with the extra stuffI've been playing sudoku for years upon years on paper. It was the way I learned. I didn't want to carry around the sudoku book so I got this because all the other apps had some sort of points system which I hated. My complaint is the game tells you when you've put down all of a single number. I don't like this because the fun of sudoku is the challenge and with this it is less challenging. But because all other games force a score system this is the only one I am willing to play. ✓ Ads, ads, distracting ads, ads, more adsWhen I first started playing, I rated it 5 stars but now not so much. If negative stars were a thing I’d give it -3 stars. I enjoyed the game and I was pretty good at it — top 5% in games played and top 1% in all other stats. But now the game is full of ads including hitting you with distracting ad graphics while playing a game. The games are timed and such distractions make the game frustrating rather than enjoyable. Then there’s the number of ads you have to watch after completing a game before you can play another. I have no trust in the developers and I will look for another pastime rather than give them money to get an “ad-free” version. Their greed has driven me away..Version: 3.0.11
✓ Now With More AdsI don’t like the new design but I figured that it was more likely muscle memory and I would get used to it. I loved the hints because when you are stuck on a tough puzzle it will step you through the logic helping you become a better player. I don’t often use the hints but did so today and rather then helping me learn I was presented with an ad. I don’t have a problem with ads in games but this is bad. When I’m frustrated enough to give up and hit the hints, making it more frustrating isn’t helping..Version: 3.0.3

✓ Ruined by the recent updateI’ve been playing this game for years and the recent update has ruined it. It used to be easy to see the numbers as it highlighted the number you were looking at. Very helpful for spotting patterns. Now, it’s very hard to spot patterns. It’s gone from a fun game to becoming an absolute pain overnight. Also for the second puzzle in a row, I’ve found puzzles with two solutions. This should be impossible (and don’t suggest I was wrong, because I’ve been doing these at expert level for years and years and don’t get them wrong). ✓ Advertorial SuicideAll Brainium games now can only be played in Aircraft mode or with wi-fi disabled to stop the ads. I know ads are the lifeblood of free gaming and it grieves me to have to turn them off, but enough is enough. The current trend for ads that cannot be dismissed or daisy chain other ads is nauseating. The idea of playing games is to PLAY A GAME, and not be subjected to a continual bombardment of mindless crap that nobody wants. I will decide which ads to look at, I will not be dictated to. Turning off ads by disconnecting the Internet will, I know, eventually lead to the collapse of many gaming companies - it’s inevitable. But in a way it is the game company’s own fault for allowing this infiltration to take place. ✓ Latest update a backward stepThis used to be an excellent soduko app but after the latest update they have completely changed the look and feel of the game and, more importantly, the way it plays. ✓ Simple, relaxing, easyOf all the versions of Sudoku I’ve tried, this one is my favorite. A lot of the others have intrusive noises when you make mistakes or music. This app is very calming, doesn’t show the timer unless you want to see it, and gives you a very gentle red number if you place something wrong (which you can turn off entirely also). I don’t feel badly for making mistakes in this app. I find the game easy to control and even the markups are easy to do. This is also the perfect example of well placed ads in a mobile game. They’re entirely non intrusive, only playing when you start a new game and don’t auto play sound. I don’t mind watching the ads at all. Great version of a classic game! Keep it up! Update: Recently the style of the game updated and I don’t like it as much. The previous graphics looked better and more relaxing IMO. I wish there was an option to switch it back, like a “classic” or something. One of the things I really liked about this version of sudoku was that you could always see what numbers were fully discovered, even if you had a tile selected. ✓ My second suduko gameWhen my favorite suduko game started glitching after 5 years, I downloaded this one because I have, and like, Brainium's Free Cell. This version works well but there are a few things I would change. The colors make it difficult to read. Too many colors in the same color family. Why are they using so many greens? I don't see a reason for highlighting anything but the relevant information. Also, it is hard to distinguish yellow numbers on green. The other thing I would change is that when I am using auto-fill to see all my options, when there is only one autofill number left in a box I want to tap the box and have it automatically put the number in. ✓ Beware Senior Citizens this game discriminates...Expect a low score and problems because of the issues the developers built into this game. Furthermore, the layout of the game is detrimental for senior citizens and the developers scoring process. The number choosing group is small allowing mistakes when touching and usually the wrong number appears. The developers suggest using their “floating numbers” to assist in choosing the correct number. Does not work since the “floating numbers” are also small allowing for mistakes. A simple solution would be to enlarge the number pad like most other Sudoku games. But they rather blame the player This issues has an effect on your score and I believe it is the intent of the developers-Brainum- so every player will get a lower score and cause problems and frustration for senior citizens..Version: 2.3.34

✓ Good functionality, preferred previous versionI’ve never thought much about how much I like the functionality until I came to write a review and saw so many others who have compared several other apps. I got lucky, this was my first. I have enjoyed far too many hours playing! However, while aesthetically cool, I do not like the updated version to actually play. I am not sure how to describe it, something about the color schemes (I’ve tried them all) and font color makes me have to strain my eyes and it’s harder to see. ✓ Levels are inconsistentMy first issue with this app is that the levels are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes the easy ones are harder than the medium ones. Sometimes the medium ones are more like impossible. And I play the “insane” level on my other Sudoku app. The other issue I have with this game is that once you move on, there’s no way to differentiate the numbers you’ve added from the numbers that were already there. This makes it much harder than my other game, or much harder than a print version would be. Even in an extremely difficult print puzzle you can easily see where you’ve been and if there’s a problem what might need to be changed. Here, everything looks the same. ✓ Nice but flawedThere are aspects of the game that are useful. The highlighted squares for each number helps you to look for XWing swordfish XY XYZ. What I don't like is the flawed logic of the Sudoku construction. The hard setting takes less than three minutes to solve. The so-called expert is ridiculous. I have never seen a Hidden swordfish before. That is a swordfish where there are the same number interfering with the identification of the pattern. You have to evaluate .... could it be a swordfish or not a swordfish. This happens often. I have yet to find a game that is fun. They are either ridiculously easy or ridiculously hard. It would be nice to have games that were a combination of hidden triplets or hidden quads and XY and / or XYZ and XWing and swordfish..Version: 2.3.30
✓ How to ruin a wonderful app 101:This was hands down my favorite sudoku app on iOS. The new redesign is awful. Sure it’s pretty to look at, but none of us were playing sudoku for the graphics in the first place. Why is landscape mode gone? Why can I no longer easily glance down and see what numbers have been completed for the puzzle? Why does everything highlight in the blue color regardless of the color theme selected? Why are the highlighted cells different now? Why did you completely remove the menu screen? Why does removing ads cost $12, that is ludicrous. Sad to say I’m no longer going to bother with this app when there are others that are now just as capable without the awful design flaws this one now has. Worst part is that you literally didn’t need to change anything. You were comfortably sitting at almost 5 stars on the App Store with positive reviews almost across the board. ✓ Resets my score if I don’t rate itI’ve played this game on and off for years, and I get really excited when I level up. I’ve noticed now that I hit 22, every time I go to level up to 23, it asks me if I want to rate the game. I say, not now, and it says level up! And starts me back over at 22. I’m not sure why this is so upsetting, but I was thinking of purchasing the the game in order to not see ads, and now there’s no way if I won’t continue to level up. I should be around 150,000 points now, but it says 89,000 ish every time it sets me back to the beginning of level 22. It’s enough for me to knock three stars.. otherwise, I probably would have given it 4 stars. Oh and I didn’t rate it this time from it asking, I came to the App Store and found the game.
