✓ IOS8 has ruined thisSince I updated my iPad to iOS 8 I cannot access back issues that I have archived, cannot access the online library and the pages take an age to load, if they load at all. The imagery of the guitars is also not working. I have contacted them over a week ago and still not had a reply. Awful Update: app now closes instead of opening magazine. ✓ Very Disappointing!I have been a subscriber of guitarist for years, pretty expensive in the states. When I got my iPad I decided to let my mail subscription go, for convenience and space issues. The app was ok at first, having the audio examples and videos right there was nice. So I down loaded several issues. I "accidentally" down loaded the update to this app, I have lost all issues that were previously downloaded. I took their suggestion and downloaded GD Archive app...still nothing. When I try to reload, not enough memory message appears. If you have this app and enjoy it, don't update! You lose everything and gain nothing..Version: 2.2.5
✓ Doesn't workI am a big fan of Guitarist's paper edition so was looking forward to trying out the digital edition. ✓ No Customer Service WhatsoeverI've been buying and downloading Guitarist for a year or so. The software got an - ahem - "upgrade" a couple of months ago, whereupon I lost all the purchased mags. I've tried following all the instructions for restoring lost editions, but it doesn't work. I've tried contacting them three times, and all three times I've received a useless automated reply. ✓ Dreadful.I subscribed to the Guitarist, a magazine I use to read regularly. I thought I would subscribe to the digital version as I wanted to read it again after not reading it for a few years. The whole experience of trying to get a digital copy was dreadful. I followed all the advice from the “help centre” but to no avail. I persevered for a while but could not get anywhere with downloading a copy I had paid for. I have cancelled my subscription, hopefully, and will not consider buying anything from Future Plc ever again. All I can say is get your act together Future Plc, the current customer service is dreadful..Version: 6.0.6

✓ Difficult to useBeen reading this since issue 1 in 1984. Thought I’d go green and change to digital, which I have done successfully with a number of Other publications. Total confusion after I registered. Turns out I don’t have an account, but did I register with iTunes, my favourite magazine or magazines direct? Reply from the help emails takes three days and tells me to use menus that don’t actually appear on the screen. A shambles. To be fair I don’t really need to read identikit articles on vintage Les Pauls/strats every single month, so I’m not missing much in the way of creative content..Version: 6.0.6

✓ My Issues have disappearedThe app is fine BUT my 12-month subscription ended last month. At that time, I then lost access to the 12 issues that I had received as part of the subscription - I did not keep them all on my iPad, as they took up too much room. Guitarist's app support suggested I tried repurchasing the product. However, the 12-month subscription is no longer an option for in-app purchase. They have now advised me to contact iTunes support and get them to resolve the problem, as they can't help me. Please be aware that if you stop subscribing, you could lose access to the issues from your subscription, something that was not clear from the information provided at purchase..Version: 2.2.5

✓ Download request rarely worksThe magazine itself is great,but the download request rarely works correctly. I have to fight with it to get every new issue. Usually ,you have to delete the app,then reinstall and hope it works. Sometimes it does,mostly it doesn't,requiring trying again. Been a subscriber for a few years,but have decided not to renew because it's not worth the trouble. Good magazine....terrible interface. ✓ Serious downgradeThe old version of the Guitarist app was quite nice to use, although it missed some content out for some reason, probably licensing issues? The embedded video/audio content was great. This new version by contrast is pretty awful, its a glorified PDF viewer that doesn't display the text contents half as well as before. The killer for me is the media content now just links to online media, which is completely useless to me when I'm out and about and want to read/listen/watch - I only have a WiFi iPad and rarely encounter free WiFi spots e.g. when on holiday! ✓ A devil to get going but ok when you get the knackAfter several attempts to open the app and log in, problems with the password not working due to an issue with the web site the magazines will not download, they get to about 30% and then freeze. I cleared out all the open apps, deleted the app and its data reloaded the app and hey presto it worked. The fix for me was to make sure there were no updates waiting for other apps, clearing these finally got it going. Still not good as it should be able to cope with this issue..Version: 4.9.5

✓ Very Slow DownloadsI'm on the trail subscription at the moment. Which means I get the first two issues free. The first mag I received, the Jimmy Page issue, took around an hour and a half to download. Apart from that, the content was well presented and the articles were good. A lot of zooming in and out though. I'm not yet sure if the digital experience can really match the ease of reading a physical magazine. ✓ Good format, well presented but tired contentHaving bought Guitarist on and off since its introduction I don't recall a period of less interesting coverage. I am thoroughly sick of vintage Gibsons and Fenders. Guitars and valve amps are nearly all great now over a certain spend, as are most pedals. There is obviously nothing new worth reporting on right now so I'm listening to a lot more music. Having cancelled my recurring subscription I just noticed, yes another old Gibson on the new cover. I had five vintage Gibsons and I don't regret selling any of them. I will renew when I am convinced there has been an editorial shake up..Version: 4.9.1

I have contacted help 3 times who have sent a standard response each time asking me to delete the app and then restore my purchases. ✓ Critical bugsSerious stability and performance issues in current version. Store view can take a minute or more to update, and it refreshes every time it appears. ✓ Beyond frustrating...5 stars for content, the journalism is top draw and I've been purchasing the magazine for years and plan to continue doing so. But how it can take so long to download each issue is a mystery?! Other newsstand apps don't have this problem yet with a very strong broadband package it can take a good hour or longer sometimes???? It also forgets its downloads 1/2 the magazine sometimes too and on have to start over again.
