✓ No manual or support!This app is a lot of fun, powerful and very useful, but if you live in Australia there doesn't seem to be any contactable support, it's a restricted email address. I just want to import my own sample creations into this app and it would be quicker to either have a manual or some customer support. There isn't a perfect app out there yet, everything is constantly improving, and customer support is an important part of this process, as are good product manuals. ✓ Art from KaosHaving had the kaossilator itself, I can vouch for the ikaossilator's worthiness. However, there are a few differences, the sounds are different for a start, a few of my fav sounds are missing, hopefully they might add a few more later on. Excellent additions are theabilities to mute tracks, solo, swap patterns. A real bonus would be the ability to export loops to use in sequencing software such as Namostudio, but that's s minor gripe for such instant gratification and ease if use.Version: 1.0.0

I understand most people wouldn’t want a BPM slower than 20 but does that mean that I shouldn’t be able to if I want to? This is obviously something I feel is arbitrary and shouldn’t be limited. ✓ Big time fun. Little Surprises. Small improvements.I absolutely love this app. It’s fun, easy and intuitively simple. Sure it’s limited in the amount of sounds but that limitation is also a creativity spark. Many may not know or care to bother but you can export your songs via Audio Share/Copy for work in your favourite DAW application. So the notion of this being limited to only your phone is malarkey. One limitation that can easily be rectified however would be the inclusion of a “mixer” to obviously mix the levels more efficiently..Version: 3.1.6

Dangerous app.Since V2 came out yesterday, I've done hardly anything else but play with this app. Making loops, building on the stock ones and drumming up a lot of business for Korg from my friends. I'm giving only 4 stars: I worked on a loop, was unsaved and wanted to quickly listen into a saved one, no questions, the unsaved loop was gone, that's it. At the same time, even if I just saved my pattern, want to start a new, the question is there, "are you sure". Next one: if the upload of a live recording to dropbox fails for some reason, it's gone, I was not able to retry or save it to the sound library..Version: 3.0.1

✓ Great ideas generatorWhat a great app. I've put it on my iPad 2 (and plan to put it on my iPhone 3GS later). You can't help but come up with great riffs and beat combinations. And so easy to use. All parts are colour coded, just tap on one of the coloured buttons on the bottom of the display, and start jamming. You can select one key & scale for the entire pattern, but each track (or pattern part) and be a different length. So you can have a 1-bar bass playing against a 2-bar drum loop for example. It really is so simple, and yet so addictive and creative. I've not even had to look at any instructions online. For something this simple, its hard to believe how good it is. The graphics are also stunning when you get something playing. All positive then. I'd like to see more sounds, either free or as paid for upgrades, and MIDI In/Out would be good. Audio export with copy/paste would be nice too. But for version 1 its great (just like all the other Korg apps!)..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Super easy and funIt does take an hour or 2 of messing around to get it, but once you get how to mute parts, clear parts, and simplify parts quickly, this becomes a fun idea generator. Also learn how to turn off quantizing. For fun, I set up just the drum part to start and then add tiny bits of instruments, or just a bassline to add a little tonality. Then I use it as a super-complex metronome/drone and practice my scales with the groove. Then my 6-year-okd comes up, steals the phone away, and drags his finger around, playing the different instruments. And I just keep grooving along! Have fun..Version: 3.1.7

✓ Amazing loop creationI was annoyed when I saw it was $20 and there was no way to demo it but I took a chance and got it anyway. I mean, why not? It's Korg right? Well luckily that was correct this time. We have a winner. Totally worth the cash. I love making music but I'm not always great at coming up with my own loops. This app is fantastic for creating great sounding loops in very little time. Sound Copy support means I can now send loops straight to my favorite DAW app. Perfect..Version: 2.0.1

For me, though, the biggest missing feature is the ability to sync to midi, or at very least nudge the tempo. ✓ Good! Those wanted a detailed description...Here's a review for those whom read the below reviews and thought surely them people were told to write what they did. It's a great app and goes by its description! The amount of different genres etc you make is exceptional, yet some may argue that the price tag is too hefty! I got this app purely because I wanted to try/consider buying the Kaosilator Pro, and thought this would give me a taster and it did! I'm not going to come out and say this app is the most amazing thing ever produced but I would say its worth that hour's pay in your life! It's impressive however I haven't come across an option yet to be able; for example save your looped song (which you can, on the app under the loops list) and sent it via email etc so that you can use it on your computer for production etc. I may be completely wrong but I hope if I'm right that it will be something to be included in the future. 4/5 starts down to the price even though some say it may be reasonable and the small lack of options which I may of just not found!.Version: 1.0.0

✓ Great app, weird quirks, ableton export feature is poorly implementedSound quality of the app is awesome. It unlocks a lot of creativity. UI is a bit tricky, but can be tamed. But not the MOST usable in my opinion. Biggest let down for me at the moment – the Ableton project export feature is poorly implemented. Hey guys, Your ableton project export for iKaossilator needs to export longer samples. When I export sounds from the app individually, not using the Ableton export feature, the samples export at ~14 seconds. This loops the sample so it can grab the tails of the reverb, etc. This is how the ableton export should work, but instead it only exports the exact loop length (in my case ~4 secs) and as a result cuts off the reverb tail. This effectively ruins the Ableton feature. Hope you guys fix this! After that – 5 stars :D.Version: 3.0.1

✓ Had to drop my rating!Previously rated 5 stars, but since update 2.3.0... Don't get me wrong, this is still one of my favs, but since that update it has made scrolling through the patterns a bit tricky without accidentally selecting a part from one of those patterns, or a whole new pattern. Whereas before it would allow switching between parts from different patterns at different times thru the loop, it now often waits for that part to complete its loop before switching...have a few songs I like to bounce around with, switching parts from (similar) patterns to change instruments part way thru a loop...good thing I still have an older device running version 2.2.2. The addition of a grid, or display of the current note being played (Similar to the KO2) would be a welcome addition, as would better support for transferring files with a KO2..Version: 3.0.1

Korg give us an update for the new iPads retina screen As the diagonal grey lines over the whole app do not fit properly and the whole frame is 2 thirds across the screen, Also as many other users have requested, PLEASE enable an option to turn off the flashy lights or make it a fairly dim red glow so you can still use it to keep time, that would look boss! ✓ Useful for MeI got this because I was looking for some deep bass sounds to insert into my live show. The bass sounds ended up being okayish, but there are enough sounds in here that there's a strong chance everyone will find some that they like. I like several of the Leads, the Acoustics --while not sounding especially acoustic-- do sound interesting, and there are a bunch of the sound effects ones that I really like. Would be great if future versions were more customizable and had MIDI, but I still have to say it was well worth the price..Version: 3.1.3

✓ Awesome!!I'm up to my neck in awesome with this app - I was a little skeptical in the beginning. Once you get started it's additive - this is angry birds for music nerds. It's incredibly easy to use the interface is very simple and straight forward. I've tried all the best music apps(Beatmaker1&2, nano studio, moog flitatron, rebirth and argon synth) and was never compelled to write a review but this time I had to - this app is too much fun. I can't wait to try it on an iPad during a live performance. ✓ BrilliantI have the hardware versions both the kaossilator 2 and the pro+ and this app is a great way to decide if you like the concept of the kaossilator without spending to much of your hard earned cash. It is not exactly the same as the hardware versions but the basic way you interface with it is the same. The sounds are very high quality comparable to the real thing and some voices are actually better I think than the hard versions. It's the best music app I have on my phone apart from Garage band which in fairness is a much more in depth app and takes a lot more getting used to. I love it and use it a lot.Version: 3.0.1

I'm a long time korg user, I own every korg app, I own all products in the Kaoss family, I have a korg r3 and electribe, I base my work off the korg sound ( my synth gt aswell) and this app takes all those synths and effect processors I named above and smashes them all into a nice 10 buck ball and manages to keep my beloved "korg sound" I will be using this app in a project, for sure! ✓ Fast, fun and inspiring. An ideal app for iOSJust got my iPhone 4S and having previously owned an iPad2 was happy to see some of my apps carry over. But the small screen real-estate really limits what you can do. But this app is perfect in its minimalism and creative approach. I've purchased quite a few music apps for the iPhone. Many have tried to bring conventional workstation metaphors over with varied success. GarageBand is a great example of this, great sounds, solid recording abilities, but I realized it worked better connected to a MIDI keyboard (except the virtual guitar which is stellar). At that point, I might as well just use Digital Performer / Logic / GarageBand on a computer. I still think GarageBand is exceptional, but I prefer the immediacy of this app. In other cases I've bought stuff like FL Studio, NanoStudio and Beatmaker and just felt underwhelmed. To much menu diving and uninspiring sounds. Some powerful features, but perhaps better done on a desktop computer. I've never used the hardware versions of Kaossilator, but having used many hardware and computer sequencers, I can say iKaossilator is one of simplest. Its actually easier than Garageband and more immediate. But being simple doesn't mean it can't crank out serious grooves, rhythms, and melodies. It may be limited in polyphony (amount of notes that can be played at one time), but there is nothing in the way of creating the core melodies that could be the backbone to a more complete work. iKaossilator can support a wide range of scales and key settings as well as quantization and time signatures. Sound quality is fantastic, with nice clear and punchy sounds that appear to be a mixture of samples and synthesis. A nice well-rounded soundest that some may tire of, but really the fundamentals are here, and there are an infinite amount of ways to combine them. I haven't delved too deep, so I don't know if songs created with this can be exported as Audio or MIDI data. That would extend its professional use. Overall, simply amazing fun..Version: 1.0.0

Well anyway, for my part here is my review. The update works very well, and there are significant improvements to this version. Probably the most important of these is the ability to import your own loops/samples ( read: 'Instruments' ) which can also have filter effects applied to them increasing the scope of music that can be created. Marvellous! AudioCopy & Paste are also now fully supported meaning that you can import and export loops & sounds or even whole tunes to - or from - other compatible Apps! MAGIC. ✓ Ppppuuurrrfffeecctt appThis app is a religious experience. No drugz required. As good as aural sects @-; BUT... Backing up your own patterns might be a problem... There is no way to BU file info, except by trusting the .ipa file (in the iTunes MOBILE APPLICATION .ipa file). The .ipa stays at 17.5MB ALWAYS, so it is not saving. If anyone knows about backing-up solutions, then post it here or email me (see below). I already posted a forum comment at KORG forum. No one answered. Further, the Korg hardware version -- "Kaossilator 2" -- can transfer file data to the iKaossilator, but not the other way around: " Loop recorder data created with a Kaossilator 2 can be imported into iKaossilator, or an audio loop created in iKaossilator can be loaded into a loop recording bank of the Kaossilator 2." THEREFORE, I think if you reset your iPod/iPad/iPhone, then you will lose YOUR inputted pattern data. Although the online manual cryptically promises, "IMPORTANT FOR PC USERS : Please do not delete “.ikaoss.d” folder in iTunes. Your custom loop data will be deleted," this .ipa file has not changed -- even though my iPad's itune's APP profile page states the file has steadily grown larger, as I input more pattern data in the iPad. iTune's APP page states my iKaossilator file is over 25MB! But the back-up .ipa file on my PC states the never-changing 17.5MB. Anyone got any ideas? ✓ Almost greatThis app is great fun. Its easy to use and you can make some really interesting music with it. However, the fact that you can't see what notes you are playing is very frustrating for me as I am a musician. I really want to start using this as a real instrument, but it's just to hard at the moment to be consistent and hit the right notes. Im not sure how difficult this would be, but myself (and I'm sure many other people) would really appreciate if in the next update, the developers could add the option of having a keyboard so you can see what notes you are playing. ✓ Great app but not as playable as the hardware version for me.The best thing about this app for me is the Ableton link making it clock timetable with loads of other stuff. If it didn’t have that I would just stick with my hardware kaossilator. The hardware version allows infinite overdubs and you can play any of it’s sounds freestyle over the top. This app doesn’t seem to allow that. Once you have the 5 loop slots loaded and playing, as soon as you select another sound to play over the top with, it just changes one of the loops sounds too. Am I missing a trick here ? Also..... I was keen to purchase several more sound packs, which just ain’t there to be bought, even though when you look at the library there’s the two you can have, essentials and edm and loads of empty slots, giving the impression there’s more to be had, but...... nope 👎 Come of Korg, you must have loads more to offer !.Version: 3.1.3
✓ Funky little app.I was a late comer to this app due to the heavy price tag. Rivals and marries with Propellers much cheaper Figure app. The art of both of these apps is that you can get so much out of them when you work at it. If you are good at music creation you'll know you can get all sorts of styles out of them, not just dance music (they are just the presets). The flashing lights on this one are both cool and epileptic in dark. Performance wise this app works well on both iPhone and iPad and I like to have them both running to get 10 tracks out of it. ✓ Korg blimey!This is a great app - well worth the price. It has some great bass, chord, lead, sfx, drum loops and single hit drum sounds included. You can use these to record your own loops (quantized or not) with five layers of instrumentation at once. These loops can then be triggered live for arranging into a song with different parts - verse, chorus, bridge etc. The max loop length is four bars long. There are some included loops in various styles like D n' B, chillout etc... that give a good idea of what the app is capable of.
