StrongLifts Weight Lifting Log for Negative User Reviews

GlitchyAt first this was 5 stars. Made some good progress and loved the app. The last few weeks however my progress has been disappearing regularly and I have lost 14 months worth of stats. I suspect this has to do with the new pro coming out, and so they don’t care about the power pack purchasers like me and so they let it glitch out. I now have to take pencil and pad to the gym with me and I end up using the app as a timer and set tick off. You can’t rely on it for any more than that sadly. Great start guys, poor finish. Unlikely to go ‘pro’ based on my last few weeks experience. Jon.Version: 2.9.8

Used to be greatUsed to be a great app about a year ago, but after an update the timer doesn’t work properly and the entire app often freezes up completely. It’s a shame. Another example of fixing something that ain’t broke..Version: 3.13.3

Nice app but broken...Update: Even more bugs today... Im switching apps from now on... I cannot change the timer for "Planks"; it resets back to 30s every time. Also it has begun crashing every few days.. As a software developer I do not see why it can be difficult to make such a simple app function..Version: 2.9.6

Bait and switchI previously paid for this app outright but got convinced to switch to the subscription for an additional fee with the promise of new features “soon”. Well that was months ago and I’m paying twice for the same thing I had before - none of the new features advertised like Apple Watch support. App works well but I don’t like being coerced into paying for something twice..Version: 2.9.20

Not coolI hate when greedy apps first collect your personal data and only then you discover there is no decent trial period/ free plan.. Not cool.Version: 3.19.7

Used to be 5 starI started using this as a free app 3 years ago. I liked the features and ease of use so much that I bought it. I wanted to support the app developers. At some point they converted it to a paid subscription, again cant blame them. Jump on the band wagon of people being all about fitness. An they have a great app that I enjoy. Now for the 1 star: every single time I finish a workout and log it. I am spammed with three screens that make me refuse the subscription service. That adds absolutely nothing I need. Again I paid for the app, allow me to opt out of seeing this every single. Its making me want to search for a different app provider. I get it if I was using the free version, make me click past the adds. For a paying customer though ? Shut it off! Update: stop ignoring the problem in every review. I dont do the same program, I rotate apps. The problem is I paid for the app and yet I get spammed to upgrade after I click finish on every single workout. Fix it. Thats the problem..Version: 3.13.3

False information in emailsThe app is not bad minus some wonky controls if you are an overachiever and want to do both the same day. I was playing around with this app here and there to see if it was recommending anywhere close to what I was actually doing. Along the way you get emails giving you advice while coaxing you to purchase the pro or full version. Then the email gave very misleading almost false information on barbell Vs smith machine. Can you do these exercises on a smith machine? Yes. The difference is in the bar weight and that you are on a fixed plain of travel, this is good for lower weight and beginners looking to get a feel for the exercise. The main difference is you will not work the stabilizing muscles since you won’t be “stabilizing” bar since it’s attached to a machine. Do some research and you will most likely come to the same conclusion. So if it’s feeding false information there it will feed it anywhere to get you to pay. Delete it and find a better app..Version: 2.9.26

Not for me, but people seem to like it!I downloaded this app based on the overwhelming positive feedback on here, I wanted to try something different to encourage my muscles to grow...I’m one of those pesky hard gainers, so after not seeing as much improvement as I’d like I went searching for a new plan. I’ve been doing this 3 days a week for several weeks now. I’m squatting way more weight than before, but because of the low rep ranges it never feels like a challenge. I never feel like I’ve had a serious workout and I’ve actually been losing muscle since I started doing this. Having said that, the app is very easy to use, the graphs are great for tracking your progress. Just obviously wasn’t for me, I still class myself as a beginner, but this is really basic with no muscle gains in sight, so maybe better for your first plan, not one to switch to if you’ve already been doing something else as you’ll find yourself going backwards..Version: 2.9.22

Used to be great, now constant spam to buy subscriptionUpdate: response from the developer just further cements why I’ll leave this as 1 star. I bought it in the past so now I should spend 10x more to buy it again to “unlock” a different variation of 5x5? What a joke. I do 5x5 workouts for a few months at a time at most. I haven’t been using this app for 5+ years straight. I wish I could make my rating even lower for this cash grab nonsense. I bought this app about 6-7 years ago for $15 to unlock the pro version. Since then, they have removed the option to buy for $15 flat and switched to a subscription model. Even though I’ve already paid for the app once, I still get spammed every time I use it to subscribe to the plan. If I were a new user coming to this app, I would’ve deleted it after the first week. But since I’ve already paid money for it in the past, I power through it. A simple workout tracker is all you need for 5x5 programming. So yea, not happy with this app anymore..Version: 3.12.2

Decent appDecent app, low rating due to subscription based pro version..Version: 2.11.1

LiftingIt’s good as a plan but I like to workout multiple days in a row and this seems to be just every second day..Version: 2.11.4

Lost all workouts twiceCan’t continue to use the app, lost all progress twice and too frustrated to continue. Waste of a purchase for the Power Pack..Version: 2.9.23

Lots of good, but app has changed a lot!Had this on Google play for ages, and iOS many years ago. A number of functions became paywalled over time including some stuff like additional exercises which I couldn’t get over as it becomes less flexible than a pen and paper notebook and costs more. It’s good for the timer and progression, but I’m sure there are other options out there with a wider range of options with their basic functionality. Thanks to the dev and founder for getting it to where it is but it’s so weird as to how much is paywalled behind a monthly revenue model now..Version: 3.4

Bit by bit the free is becoming uselessWhat happens when greed takes over? Every little decent feature is stripped out until all you have is a basic model. Sad thing is I paid for the power pack back in the day which then got superseded by the pro. When purchasing that it said at time this would unlock everything every feature but it didn’t last that long. An app to track training should never cost the same as a gym membership. I wouldn't have wrote this if you hadn’t removed the ability to log extra reps. Edit: after the response I felt I had to add this. Logging reps during a session does not allow you to manually add reps over 5. All you used to do was hold on the rep and sub menu pops up select log reps and enter what you did and until the last update it worked fine now it tells me I have power pack but I need upgrade to pro. Such a silly and small thing to alter.Version: 3.19.8

PoorPoor.Version: 2.10.8

Didn’t calculate starting weights correctlyRecommended I started with less than I can already lift - I tried the setup process twice and double checked the units. Needs an update.Version: 2.9.16

Log repsLog reps used to be free a month ago. Why you gotta keep taking away features from the free version? App costs as much as a gym membership in some countries christ Edit: The developers have responded saying the Log Reps feature is free. That is false. It used to be the case in February and prior that one could hold down on the rep counter, select Log Reps and select the amount of reps they’ve done incase they’ve done more/less reps than they needed to. I’ve emailed a screen recording using the latest version showing that the feature is now paid, where as it wasn’t a month ago. Clearly whoever is responding to reviews isn’t familiar with the latest paid/free feature set..Version: 3.19.8

Can’t understand the good reviewsThe beginners program is ridiculous- you can’t lift the beginner weights listed in this app (30kg barbell row for beginners?!). Divide the weight by 3 - a male healthy beginner should be lifting around 10kg. Don’t be upset if u can’t lift what this app states you should be able to. Utterly ridiculous. The app asks you to “log” your workout before you can view history but there’s no “log workout” button anywhere, so I can’t speak much to it being intuitive.. Reply to developer response: “most men beginners can dead lift 30kg” - well i’ve actually lifted many times before so I’m not a beginner (just had a couple years break), I’m of average height & strength compared to most men & everyone I know including personal trainers say the same thing (30-40kg is way too much for beginners & almost no one starts that high unless they’ve done weight lifting before (eg removal men), so your insistence that “most men beginners can lift 40kg” both doesn’t hold up & alienates most beginners. Implying people can lift “less than most beginners” is not a positive way to encourage people to start or continue weight lifting..Version: 3.18.1

Needs a women specific settingThe app only downloaded my deadlift 5kg after a 3 week layoff. I trusted its calculations, sprained my back and ended up in A&E..Version: 3.15.4

Paid for premium not seeing all the featuresThe free app works fine, can I get my money back for the premium? There are no accessory exercises, it’s literally the same app as the free one. What a rip-off, scam.Version: 2.10.8

Waste of money!Weights lag and reset to defaults (45lbs) consistently!!! I wish i never bought the pro version!.Version: 2.9.16

Unable to tap options. BuggyI am trying to create my own workout. I can’t tap on workouts to edit them. This bug I’ve experienced in other options in the app and I gave up but this is just ridiculous now. I should be able to tap normally if I tap “add workout” for example, it only works if I hold for a few seconds..Version: 3.18.1

Clunky Garbage - now I see why they don’t offer a trialImmediate buyers remorse. The ads led me to believe the subscription would open a ton of extra features. Nope! Only allows two workouts with a very limited number of exercises. Granted, you can create your own, but for a recurring subscription, this is hot garbage. The workouts are not easily modifiable. Based on my previous lifts, it gave me the weight to lift for my workout. The weight was comically light. The entire workout didn’t even make me break a sweat. It was a fraction of my normal warm-up. Maybe this stuff is changeable somehow, but I don’t have an hour to figure out a poorly designed, clunky app. They don’t offer a trial, because nobody would ever subscribe after. The only legit feature is the plate “calculator” for those that can’t do basic math. Hoping I can get a refund. R: Yeah, thanks, but I’m already familiar with the 5x5 method. In fact, I’m already doing the 5x5 method, which is why I was so excited to find this app and why I was so disappointed to waste money on this clunky garbage. Your workout isn’t the end all, be all of workouts. Mine might be better. What if I want to rotate between 3 workouts or what if I want to deadlift every day. The lack of custom options for a paid subscription is wicked frustrating..Version: 2.11

Where are the features I paid forI cannot locate all the extra exercises that were mentioned whe upgrading to the pro edition. It looks exactly the same as the free addition to me..Version: 2.9.26

Very unresponsiveUnresponsive on iPhone 6S.Version: 2.9.2

Latest update made app annoyingUsed to use this without problem but now the app will prompt to log in to facebook or google all the time, despite not wanting to, with seemingly no option to disable this..Version: 2.7.1

Very buggyOverall the app and programming is good. I like the customization you can implement to the workouts. The software itself is very buggy. The Apple Watch and phone connection sometimes does not transfer completed sets. I don’t workout with my Apple Watch anymore because I would sometimes use that to track workouts to stay away from my phone. I later discovered while reviewing my workouts some things did not transfer from my Watch to my phone. Also, the app has a tendency to complete your workout and erases all logged sets for that workout. This is frustrating because I have to start a new workout and now my workout timer is off. And then, the automatically completed workout cannot be deleted for some software malfunction reason, and messes up my tracking. I like the app, but unlesss the software is improved, I won’t renew my subscription (which I paid for 1 year)..Version: 3.14.1
