✓ Clean CrosswordRecently I was asked to okay ads to help pay for this game. I agreed since ads were already appearing and I wasn’t prepared to pay money to play. Since that time I can seldom solve one word before a new ad appears. Once the ads start they appear about once every ten to twenty seconds. ✓ Interruptions and glitchesThis is my preferred crossword app but I will quit using it due to the joint frustration of crashes - it just closes and you have to reopen and get back to your crossword. Nothing major and not frequent so merely annoying. Then it refused to recognise a completed puzzle despite announcing it, so I had to reinstall and start from #1 again. And on top of that I get about 3 or 4 ad interruptions per puzzle. I understand the red for ads and don't begrudge that but they are constant and always seem to take over just as I'm about to type and answer. I can't stand it any more! ✓ INCORRECT DEFINITIONSI enjoy this version of crossword. However, from time, the answers are not always correct according to dictionaries (multiple). Today the puzzle asks for "auditory organ" and the answer is "vassal" which according to all definitions I found pertain to feudal times in history or a game platform. ✓ Fun puzzles, too many adsThis app has an enormous amount of puzzles which is great. As others have mentioned there is a repeat of some words from puzzle to puzzle, but that doesn't really bother me too much. Sometimes it's helpful when I'm stuck on a nearby word. Overall, I enjoy the app and I'd recommend it if you like doing crosswords. However, the amount of ads is annoying and seems to have increased. Also, a couple of weeks ago, the app was crashing constantly. The developers must have done something because the crashing is at a minimum now. Another problem is when the puzzle is complete sometimes it doesn't clear and you have to click next puzzle and abandon the one you just completed. A few puzzles down the road that puzzle returns. ✓ It’s okIt’s alright, but doesn’t match the calibre of newspaper or book arrow words. The clues are often repeated (sewing aid - NEEDLE) and some clues are just plain wrong or very esoteric (Hot water dispenser... - URN??? I thought an Urn was used for ashes of the deceased) but apparently a vessel used for catering is called a “tea urn”. You can see what’s happened. They have an algorithm that places words based on availability and length on a grid. The words are linked to a database of definitions. The definitions are generated via a search engine which can misread context or spelling. This results in some clues being very abstract or plain wrong. Compare this to an arrow word you would find in a newspaper which is vetted on a daily basis. I know why it’s done 1800 puzzles compared to just one a day. ✓ An Anglophile's DelightI was cautioned about this app's use of UK terms, slang and spelling, but that is one of the most fun features I've found. The timer is an excellent idea, too. Now, for the problems. The app crashes frequently. It also seems to 'freeze' repeatedly during play, just a several second delay (to "think" maybe?), but it negates the timer feature's usefulness or competing for a best time. Overall, the app is much slower than it should be in responding to play. Surprisingly, I still grew to like the design and clue challenges so much I refuse to quit using it. ✓ Halva isn’t Oriental!!The game is alright, been playing it prettily consistently the past couple of months. The one thing that keeps getting me is how bad some of the clues are that really don’t make sense to the answers. The worst one I’ve seen just happened there. App Support is uncontactable - unconscionable, when one has paid to remove the ads and the app is unsatisfactory. I can easily swipe them away (do not have to wait for the “x” to close it) but it is still highly annoying and distracting. Would not have spent the money had I know this would happen.
