Icewind Dale for Negative User Reviews

Unable to delete CharactersI really like the game and I enjoyed the storyline but for some reason I can’t delete Characters I made and it’s becoming more and more inconvenient the longer I play. There were rumours it was going to be fixed on the next update but I don’t think it was. I would rate it higher if not for this minor yet annoying detail..Version: 2.4.71

Great game, very difficult on iPhoneIn its current form, the game should not be released on iPhone. The text and graphics are way too small. Clearly no thought given in this respect. Excellent game though..Version: 1.3.2058

Connection IssuesI would like to start off by saying yet another great emulation of a great game. This is going to be my first full play through and I’m trying to connect with my brother via online multiplayer however, I am unstable to connect or even find the game. I am on iOS he is on Mac. The description calls out “cross-platform” and both devices are listed as compatible. Not sure what the issue is but will stay 3/5 until the problem is resolved. If it is just my ignorance on connecting I will apologize..Version: 2.5.17

Very bad, this my iPad 12.9 inch display, DO NOT BUY. YOU WILL BE VERY UPSET.Cannot get this game to size up to my screen.Version: 2.5.17

A Few Issues StillThe toggle for the highest difficulty mode, Heart of Fury, is still broken and has been as long as I’ve had this game. It does not matter how many times you put it on this difficulty level, it will reset to the next difficulty lower than this each time you reload the game. It also does not always take place immediately, you have to pass through a zone for the difficulty to change after you flip it back. This is a real pain in the rear. In addition, it sure would be nice to have the ability to add custom portraits on iOS like Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter nights. The number of portraits that come with the game is pretty limited..Version: 2.5.17

UnplayablePlaying on 12.9 iPad Pro and the GUI is so tiny as to be unplayable. Don’t waste your money on this effortless cash grab. Frankly, Apple should be ashamed to allow this scamware..Version: 2.5.17

Dry and Boring - nothing like Baldur’s GateUPDATE 3: I’ve figured out what is wrong, but I don’t know how to fix it - when the game is set to easy or story mode, on the ipad - it keeps switching between STR 25 and the characters’ natural STR # and also back and forth between invulnerable and not and plane protection and not... This interrupts the characters’ actions and they stop doing whatever it is that they were supposed to be doing. In other words, you cannot play in EASY or STORY MODE on iOS - major bug or something. It is so odd to me how this port is so much poorer than the BG1/2 and Torment ports. UPDATE 2: I’ve finished BG1 and BG2 and Planescape Torment - all three very good games in their own ways. This is a HUGE LETDOWN. It has no protagonist or story line, which is ok - kind of like sitting down to play D&D after school in 1980. BUT, the AI is SO BAD that I spend half my time finding out where some straggler in the party is at, waiting at a door for them to all get there so I can enter into an inn or a store to get something. The tedium is high in this version too. Not nearly as direct or forward moving as BG or BG2 or Planescape Torment - I was excited because I’m under the impression that it is newer and the graphics look a touch better, but how did they take all the LIFE out of the game that was there in BG1/2 and Planescape? Not sure that I’m going to play this through... disappointed - very disappointed. Now I have to go looking for a decent game to compare with BG1/2 and Planescape. :-( UPDATE; I've been playing. It mostly works. Just some graphics that go offscreen and make things difficult. I am unimpressed with this game. I was expecting something like Planescape Torment, but NEWER since it appears that this came out a year or two after Torment, but this feels 5 years older. I'm not getting into it so far... it doesn't have the story or the feel that Torment has - I'm going back to upgrade my review of Torment, yet again. It is starting to look and feel better every day compared to what is available out there. I was so excited when I finished Planescape and hoped that these would be similar in gameplay with different characters and the same engine. While there are similarities, this isn't nearly as good or easy to use or as intuitive. ALSO: ADDING this as well. I have yet to find an easy way to restore hp to my mage who has only 5 hp to begin with, resulting in her dying over and over again. She hasn't leveled up yet, and until she does, one hit usually does her in before anything can happen. I am extremely bored with this game so far... extremely bored. ----------------original review-------------- I'm getting a message that says it isn't compatible. What gives? Now that I have sorted by most recent I see this is a common problem. I just finished Planescape:Torment which I ended up enjoying, so I downloaded (and paid my $10 for) this and was expecting to jump in to a game that would be familiar and that I wouldn't have to relearn the controls and all of that. Instead, I'm not sure if it will even play on my iPadPro... So... why isn't that stated in the game description gang? :-( Feeling taken advantage of here. Not likely to bother with BG or BG2 now unless this is handled fairly and quickly..Version: 2.4.71

Decent on a computer, clutter makes it less so on ipad.Decent enough port though i find all the changes they call “enhanced” bothersome at best to outright objectionable with major additions and core changes to how proficiency works and dislike the interface. the big issue for me is the action icons under my sprites. i dont even want selection circles showing (which can be disabled) let alone weapon icons floating under everything. if i could shut those awful icons off id play on ipad. with it in place its so distracting and emersion breaking i will never get more then 20 min in on ipad. its a deal breaker for me. decent on pc but the added useless graphics just ruin it for me on the ipad. if i could get my money back i would..Version: 2.5.17

Too small & no sound.IPhoneX, iOS12. Too small to be useful, and I get no sound..Version: 2.5.17

Failed iOS portThe designers got way too lazy when they ported this from the pc to iOS. You can only use 3 out of the 5 mouse clicking controls on a touch screen. This means you can no longer hold right click to orient your teams formation when moving. Leaving your lower armor chars in terrible positions when moving into new rooms. You also have a complete lack of unstacking items in your inventory. So if you like an organized inventory your screwed. It also means you can only get 1 item of ammo out of your ammo belt at a time. So when you put in a stack of 80 have fun getting it back out. Not to mention alllllll the hot keys for character scripts can not be used cause there is no keyboard. So if your thinking you want some nostalgia from what was a great old school rpg on your phone think again. Better off getting it on steam for a laptop..Version: 1.4.0

Messy UI, bad portA nightmare to play on an iOS UI. There clearly weren’t any improvements made to justify accommodate smaller screens and most of the time it’s just a hot mess..Version: 2.5.17

Good god fix the inventory issue!I basically like this game and I was excited to get a good RPG on my iPhone. But. A way to select multiple items from a stack in your inventory does not exist in the iOS port. This means that if you want to remove say 240 arrows from your ammo bag to refill your archer you have to tap your phone 480 times. Yeah. Two taps per arrow and one at a time. From looking into it this is a known issue they're just not bothering to fix. To get around it people are saving their game, exporting to the pc version, opening it up, pulling out some arrows, saving the game, and exporting again to their iOS device. This is actually less trouble than moving things around in game. This problem is really a major pain and I can't believe it would be rocket science to fix, so really this game seems basically unsupported. Good luck..Version: 1.4.0

No manual, no tutorial...This could be a great game, but I will never find out. I have tried to talk to NPCs in the first room (inn) and have no idea how to get started. The help is worse than useless and this is completely frustrating..Version: 2.5.17

Do not purchase if you use an iPhoneEven on an xs max the text and ui elements are too small to be playable. Enjoy the game on an iPad instead..Version: 2.5.17

No supportAre they kidding with this port? On the iPhone X, which has been out for a year now, still isn’t supported? They really expect people to read that tiny text? Wasted 2 bucks and doubt I’ll get a refund..Version: 2.5.17

Fix bugsIt’s a great game and very enjoyable on the iPad, despite it lacking the wealth of mods etc from pc version. Great to have when traveling, touch control can be fiddly to examine things... but otherwise it’s a classic. However, it stills has a lot of very annoying bugs... please fix them. Namely: 1) if characters have two weapons equipped, they insist on choosing for you which one they will use... even if you click on the quick switch slot... so if you want them to use a healing flail over your fiery flail in some situations, they will constantly swap back regardless of what you click, overriding your option... so you have to only equip the weapon you want, and don’t carry a tactical backup. This is a massive bug. You want to be able to swap between weapon Sets! This bug randomly stops occurring then starts again. 2) characters will randomly swap portraits when you click between them in succession to access their Script menus... There are a few more, like resting and a character waking up on a nearby inaccessible bit of terrain... but these above two are incredibly frequent... aka constant annoyances..Version: 2.4.71

Dead gameTake this off the iTunes Store. Game has not been updated for new IOS. cash grab for the developers. Starting to hate iTunes and the products they have. Never update and never take off the store so new people can lose their money..Version: 1.4.0

Version(s) Behind Other PlatformsVery disappointed with iOS IWD:EE version being behind all other platforms which prevents any actual “cross platform” play. There aren’t any discussions on Beamdog Forums regarding this nor any information on a forthcoming release. I’m a reasonable consumer, and I understand all of the amazing projects Beamdog is working on, but info on an estimated 2.6.6 release for iOS would be great. (Cross Platform was the main reason I purchased this game for my iPad, so please don’t make me regret this purchase…pretty please with a Miniature Giant Space Hamster on top!).Version: 2.5.17

Cool game if it didn’t overwrite saves constantlyConstantly overwrites saves with its auto saving feature. You’ll get stuck with a character dying and then try to reload only to realize that the 4 times you saved before are just gone. Cool..Version: 2.5.17

Play on Mac/PC InsteadBeamdog have done a great thing in bringing us Baldur's Gate 1&2 and Icewind Dale to a variety of platforms. They've incorporated a lot of fan-based mods into their Enhanced Editions and made these games playable (or at least more so) on modern hardware. I played through all of BG on the iPad and got about 2/3rds the way through Icewind Dale before going through the awkward process of transferring the save and finishing the game on PC. Unfortunately, the iPad is not the platform for this game. While Baldur's Gate's relatively open environments made it work (mostly) on iPad, the tight quarters of Icewind Dale's dungeons make things such as user-controlled party positioning essential. This is done by right clicking and moving the mouse on PC. The iPad versions of the Beamdog games do not have an equivalent functionality and make pathfinding (and combat) a real problem. So, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is a fun, though relatively one-dimensional RPG. However, the iPad edition lacks core functionality that makes the gameplay more troublesome than it should be..Version: 1.4.0

Bugged trashWorld icons just vanished! Can’t leave my current destination! I can’t believe this sort of bug exists in 2022..Version: 2.5.17

App is really smallWhy is this app suddenly only taking up a few inches on my iPad Pro? Come on now, didn’t you test it at all on the newer iPads when you released the updates?.Version: 2.5.16

Needs workI have a iPhone 6s and I think for this particular phone it needs to be fixed because when I complete something and leave when I come back that progress is all gone so it needs help on the saving part of things and I hate it when u make your character and back out it deletes your character thing there should be resume party making.Version: 2.5.17

BewareThis game is basically unplayable. It’s like trying to play Wow on an iPhone. Complete waste of money wish I could get a refund!!!!.Version: 2.5.17

Not goodRedundant and poor combat.Version: 2.5.17

BooTo laggy the characters move to slow on iphone.Version: 1.4.0

UnplayableThere’s no tutorial or guide or anything to help you learn how to play the game. It looks like it could be fun, but for now it’s an unplayable waste of money. Do not buy. This is for veteran players only, apparently..Version: 2.5.17

Wayyyyyyy too shrunkThe game looks amazing, however it is almost unplayable due to how small everything is. I have an iPhone X and the font, even scaled to its highest, is far too small to read comfortably. Very unfortunate. If I could see what I’m doing I would be inclined to give the game a higher rating. I.Version: 2.5.16

App is shrunk. Not sure why, but this game is suddenly taking up about 5 inches of screen real estate on my 13” iPad Pro. Same with Baldur’s Gate II. Please fix. This app was too expensive and too recent to be sunset..Version: 2.4.71

Make the game a little harder why don't youHOW expansion is too hard. Too many places where your party walks into a room and dozens of very powerful monsters jump on you from the start with no chance to prepare or use the attributes of magic users/ thief players, etc. I try multiple ways to defeat the monsters in the room before I give up and switch to story mode just to get through the task at hand. If I had known that this was how half of the game would go I would have just made 6 fighters and reduced the game to something out of the Nintendo era. I end up playing large sections of the game in story mode- which I hate- because otherwise my team is slaughtered before I have a chance to even realize what I'm fighting in the room I just entered. I enjoyed BG, would love to see Torment available but this game was made far too difficult to enjoy..Version: 1.4.0

Not on iphoneUnplayable on the iphone. Icons and text are so small, its a torture to navigate..Version: 1.3.2058

Can’t play on IPhoneThe game looks great, and I’m sure it is fun on a computer. But it is not playable on the iPhone. I can’t get past the first combat, can’t command the characters to really do anything. There is not a manual to help either. I had to give up on this after 1 day of trying to make it work and except it is just not fun when you can’t do anything..Version: 2.5.17

Unplayable at smaller resolutionsWould have been nice to know before purchasing for my iPad mini. No refund either..Version: 2.5.17

Four year old bugThe Orrick's store bug broke my game - at the end of Chapter 3 I still can't see any of the bonus items even if I buy something or go away and come back multiple times. Updating to 2.5 did not fix. Come on guys, you've known about this bug for at least FOUR YEARS and you still don't have a fix!?.Version: 2.5.16

WeaknessNot user friendly much like trying to write a review -.- Tons of micro management... too much tbh, not impressed gunna try it again but half an hour of playing and your not attacking enemies, good luck finding the shop, good luck finding anything, off good luck feeling like you got your money's worth.Version: 1.3.2058

This game is totally unplayableThere is not much to say about this game. It's a game based on a weird, limited rule set of character classes and builds with graphics that should have stayed in the 90s. You cannot simply *do* anything; there is no AI controlling your units, and your party members will sit and watch as their comrades are brutally destroyed in front of them for the umpteenth time you've attempted a fight (unless you find the well-hidden but still poor "scripts", which ask for certain key presses. On a touch device. With no keyboard.). The only way to progress is "Story Mode", AKA a huge admission of defeat. This is not fun, this is dated and frustrating. Also, th e route finding AI, while mostly satisfactory, has a horrible habit of sending your people in totally the wrong way. Also, the lack of an actual mouse means you cannot select groups of your party, just arduously ordering a specific group one at a time. Save yourself the time, money and sanity trying to not die in 6 seconds of combat..Version: 1.3.2058

Need language(cn) pack updateDO NOT RECOMMEND TO BUY. The author just adjusts price as update content last year! It’s better to go to play cracks, at least there is a language package inside..Version: 2.5.17

Awful!!!!!Keeps crashing on IPad mini 8.1.3 when berserker leader levels up. Beyond annoying!!! It doesn't deserve one star button but you have to give one star to tell people they are wasting their money. Even after updating it keeps crashing on about third level up. Still a waste of money. I found the first character to cause a crash was the default thief. I kept playing without levelling her up but then the berserker crashed on levelling up so I guess I could try to play the whole game with level three or four characters. It's a shame because I really like the game. I have BG on my MacPro and have the same level up problems Also the pregenerate character option stalls when you get to abilities. Don't know why I'm having these problems if others aren't..Version: 2.4.71

No way to rotate party formationI was really excited to get started, but my heart sank when I found out there’s no way to set the facing of your party formation when moving. In the original you could accomplish this using right click + hold to move. On iOS right click is long press, but a long press + hold pans the camera instead. Setting the facing of your party is extremely important for tactics and for navigating tight spaces. Without a way to do this quickly, the only way is to move each character individual—very cumbersome for a 6 man party. Because of this lack of just one feature I can’t give it more than 2 stars. It is that important. I’d rather lose the ability to zoom the camera than to lose the ability to easily set party facing.Version: 2.5.17

Good but gamebreaking bugOverall this is an excellent game and there is a ton of content there that still plays really well- however there is a gamebreaking bug at the end of the heart of winter storyline that causes the game to crash without saving. If you havent completed the main storyline you are stuck. Hopefully will be fixed in an update soon..Version: 1.3.2058

Not for iPhoneDO NOT buy this game for iPhone, way too many small controls and very tiny text to be useable. There is a lot of lore to be enjoyed in this deep rpg game, varied classes, flexible build system, random encounters, challenging dungeons, hidden loot... But not on the iPhone. I was lucky to be able to play this game on my iPad otherwise it would have been wasted money..Version: 1.4.0

Icewind Fail...Dreadful A.I will see your party members standing still while other members right next to them are simply hacked to death, this happens even when the party is set to react automatically. Then when you finally manage to actually manually get them to attack, you will watch the broken path finding system send them on a walk 50 meters out of their way, only to return to attack a target just one meter away. Happens time and time again and makes the game a hateful experience to try and slog through..Version: 1.3.2058

Some issuesThere are two big bugs with this game the first is the bar keeps disappearing during combat and the second is there is no option to delete generated characters I have a couple of saved files that I cannot delete and it is bugging me. Apart from that it is a great port from the original game..Version: 1.3.2058
