Neverwinter Nights for Negative User Reviews

Not User FriendlyI played this on PC back in the day, when it was innovative and refreshing. On my 2018 iPad Pro it stuttered badly with all the graphics turned up, but even with the graphics options turned to medium the user interface just didn’t make for a pleasant experience. The graphical art style was dark-on-dark, making useable items difficult to see. Playing as a wizard, spell use was clunky and enemies too difficult to see clearly, and the curse of the touch screen was much in evidence - to make anything happen your hand must cover the screen, meaning your view of events is often obscured. To be fair, I only lasted just beyond the tutorial, but the whole experience was one of frustration and annoyance. It might be better with a mouse and keyboard, but then I’d go back to PC if I wanted that..Version: 1.0.3

Wyvern crown of cormyr moduleDo not buy the wyvern crown of cormyr module. It crashes at the joust. Waste of money..Version: 1.0.3

Freezes on iPhone 13+.What a waste of time. Now I need to go through the painful refund process. Freezes on multiplayer start up. Great game though, works well on PC..Version: 1.0.3

Good fun but crashes a lotGreat game even on the Phone Unfortunately it seems to Crash every time I try to save both quick save and regular save crash the game have to rely on auto saves to progress the game. If this was fixed it would definitely be a must buy for any D&D fan.Version: 1.0.1

Crash on save!Game crashes when I try to save. Lost over 2h of game progression, not impressed.Version: 1.0.1

Summoned Creatures limit XP??Why do summoned creatures limit your XP like a party member would? This is a spell of your class and an ability of your character... ridiculous and means it’ll never be used. Fix this!.Version: 1.0.1

So, how do you play it?Open app. Choose whether to load or start a campagin. LOCKS UP. Even does so with a new game. So completely unplayable. Developer: can I have my money back? Everyone else: Don’t waste your money. UPDATE: reported the bug to the developer. Who mailed back: thanks for telling us, but we won’t do anything about it, but maybe we’ll fix it it an uodate” DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!.Version: 1.0.4

Crashes every time I try and learn a spellYep. As the title says it’s ain’t working! When I try and learn a new spell the game crashes!.Version: 1.0.0

Lazy implementationFirst let me state I have played through Neverwinter on PC and thought it was an above average game. However the iOS implementation is poorly executed at best. So much of the original interface relies on either ‘mouse over’ or ‘right click’ mechanics that it takes ages to achieve the same result stabbing at your screen with your dirty finger. I tried the game after pairing a mouse to my iPad Pro, but no support there. To add insult to injury, the tutorial and menu items all encourage you to ‘right click’. They haven’t even bothered to amend the tutorial to make it applicable to iOS. In a shop, to find out the value of an item you usually mouse over. On iOS, you jab at the item, which ‘lifts’ the item ready to move, you jab at it again to drop it, and now we get to see the value. Want to know if an item can be used by your class? Mouse over and it glows red if unable to be used. No mouse on iOS? Then jab and hold until the radial menu comes up, and now you can see if the item has a red background or not. For every single item you are interested in. Honestly the poor control implementation has sucked the enjoyment out of this game for me. It really needs a bit of a rewrite, not just throwing a touch layer over the original mouse driven controls. At the very least, provide an iOS specific tutorial to explain the disaster of a control scheme to the player. As far as I can tell (I don’t have the patience to even finish the prologue in the iOS version) this contains all the content and story of the PC version. If you can look past the poor control design, then you might enjoy the game for what else it can offer, but for me, in its current state, it’s a no thanks..Version: 1.0.2

Buggy. Keeps crashing on my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9Love this game have bought it on almost every platform. Just past tutorial trying to get out of first area and it’s crashed 3 times. Never buy a game on day 1. Developers need fix ASAP or start issuing refunds. Not ready for release! Once it’s fixed it will be a great game I love the port to iOS..Version: 1.0.0

Crashes for me....I would love to play this great game on my ipad; I started as a Wizard; tried to learn a spell and the game freezes. (IOS 13) Did it again, froze again.... 5 minutes of play. I will have to go with another class hoping the game won’t crash again.....Version: 1.0.0

Terrible GameSo much potential but fails. Incredibly glitchy. Freezes locks up in boss fights, lags terribly in big fights making casting incredibly difficult. Look online and you will see people complaining. Ive tried multiple characters, multiple stories because the game is fun only to find it impossible to proceed because the game freezes or crashes during the boss fight..Version: 1.0.1

Enjoying the game......butA fix for the chat box would be great on iOS, pretty hard to read the text when it’s hidden by action bar. iPad Pro 11.Version: 1.0.1

Module issuesI purchased two paid module packs within the app, but the modules will not download. I would rate the game higher based on the quality of the base content, but I would appreciate if this was fixed..Version: 1.0.6

Almost there but for the cameraHaving spent many hours playing over one hundred modules created by the nwn community in my youth, I purchased this version to play the original campaign which I have never finished. While this seems to be a very good rendering of the game, the one real issue for me is that I can not unlock the camera. For some this may not be an issue if they like to play from a top down perspective. However, for those who believe that the only way to play nwn is from first person perspective because it is more immersive, then they may find the lack of control over the camera a bit frustrating. If this issue could be fixed, it would take the game to another level..Version: 1.0.2

Bad bug support teamI really liked this game as a kid. One of the parts that always fascinated me is you can make your own levels (at least on computer versions). That means unlimited play time so long as the community keeps coming up with content. And this game has been around a long time and there are people converting old content to work on enhanced edition. With that being said; my main gripe is with the bug support team response time. I made a request days ago and I haven’t received a single response from support staff. Not even a “hey we seen this, we’ll send over someone to look into this as soon as possible.” It seems they care more about money from sales than actually making sure you can finish a play through on a story you’re invested in..Version: 1.0.3

Good but frame rate issuesGenerally great game. However, much like BG:EE on iPad used to be, any AOE graphic (spells etc) makes your frame rate unplayable (turned off every video graphic option and tried on various new gen iPads and iPhones with no difference). Other reviews link this issue to the most recent update and didn’t seem to be an issue previously (only just downloaded game so can’t tell). Until frame rate issue fixed I wouldn’t recommend unfortunately, once that’s done this is a must have!.Version: 1.0.2

Constant Crash on SaveGreat port, controls are fine, massive amount of content for the price, however it crashes easily 3/4 times I try to save and deletes whichever file I save in. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Old file overwrite, crash, new save name, crash, quick save, crash, stay in area or enter new area, crash. Literally makes the game unplayable knowing I stand a 75% chance of losing everything I did. This is on 13.7..Version: 1.0.1

Unplayable frame rateExpect to get a good 12 fames per second at all times. There will be no time in which this game achieves even 24 FPS. Oh and don’t think the game controls well either. My character gets stuck on basically everything. Expect to have a seriously difficult time walking from one end of a room to another. Man I wanted to like this game I really did..Version: 1.0.2

No CD keyWant to play multiplayer but can’t as searching for CD key, note the CD Key is blank in settings? Please assist..Version: 1.0.2

Key parts of game does not workI really want to give this game a higher score, but right now so many little things cause crashes, or I’m forced to restart out of them. The quickbar is extremely buggy, and a pain to customize. copying scrolls causes a hard crash, so you can’t play a wizard. You can’t spontaneously cast healing spells, so why play a cleric?Items cause you to go into aim only mode with no way to exit besides a restart. It is frustrating to put the time in on a character and not having basic features work. I don’t know how some of this stuff made it through QA, I’m discovering them in the tutorial and the very early game. These are issues with the most basic character classes. There really is no excuse for sending this product out, asking for 10 bucks and having so many issues. Starting to think this is a blatant cash grab.... I’d strongly recommend not buying till they release patches to resolve the control and basic class issues..Version: 1.0.0

Crashes all the time. So frustratingFix the damn crashes. Crashes and hangs all the time. Fix it..Version: 1.0.1

Update 1.0.4 unstable on permanent worldUpdate May 3: List of internet games is empty. There are no servers/permanent worlds available I have over 600 crash reports on my iPad since the update Update 1.0.4 causes my game to crash frequently. Before the update, I played ‘A dawn of heroes’ and the game ran smoothly but now I crash a few times a day (different characters, different locations). Tried to lower graphics settings; no help. Running iOS15.2.1 on iPad Pro Created jira tickets NWNS-10042 to NWNS-10046. Perfectly reproducible example of moving equipment to my inventory crashes the game. Love the game but am struggling to play at the moment. Update: deleted and reinstalled the game. This has improved the situation. Number of crashes reduced to one every couple of hours..Version: 1.0.4

Lacking iPhone experienceChat windows in general is nearly impossible to use in online multiplayer mode. Latest messages render behind hotbar and chat dialog window is so big the keyboard overlap without the option to change chat modes..Version: 1.0.1

Great but In-app purchase and character mobility problemsEdit: Marking down to 1 star because the in-app purchase problem still has not bee corrected or addressed. Maybe now I’ll finally be able to finish this! It was always a pain getting expansions to run. I’m looking forward to multiplaying this with my sons. But why is there no “restore purchases” button? I was going to go ahead and buy everything on both my iPhone and iPad, but today everything is more expensive x the number of devices you want the expansions. Even worse, if I delete and reinstall the app I’ll have to purchase these things again. Minus one star for a lack of basic app etiquette. Also, it looks like the same problems with moving characters and games from one device to another that exist in the Baldur’s Gate series continue here. Minus one star for not addressing this in the app and relyin on iFunbox or some other such program to fix it for you. I hope to raise this up to five stars, because it’s great to see this on iOS..Version: 1.0.1

Can’t start new gameImpossible to play as just crashes when start new game..Version: 1.0.4

Unplayable on IPhone 13Game stutters terribly after any area transition on iPhone 13 to the point of being unplayable, even on minimal graphics settings. Such a shame as I loved this game growing up. Any suggested fixes Beamdog?.Version: 1.0.4

UpdateEver since the new update, my frame rate has dropped significantly, even after turning down all the graphic settings to minimum. Please fix ASAP game is unplayable.Version: 1.0.2

Why no controler supportToo bad there no controler support.Version: 1.0.4

Unplayable due to bugThe game needs updating. An error message makes the game crash and unplayable whenever you try to start a game..Version: 1.0.4

Almost perfectMultiplayer and Tryant over moon sea the iPad doesn’t work and experience point gain system needs to be properly blanced. If those problem were fix it would get a 5 star rating from me..Version: 1.0.4

I love this game on iPad, but HATE the camera angleI have played NWN for years and jumped at the EE when it came out, I play it on both my iPad and my PC at home. Once I figured out to put the buttons on the left side the game is set up beautifully for chat and whatever you need in a quick click intuitive way. I love the new textures that keep coming out and all the plans for future enhancements. I wish other game companies would take a page from your book. However, I can’t give the 5 stars I really want to give, because of the steep grade of the camera angle, you are not able to target at the full extent of the range of your ranged attacks. I have found many things discussing all that need be done is change the .Ini file. I have found no way to do this on an iPad. It is very frustrating how close I have to be before I can target. The second camera issue would be resolved by decreasing the angle of the default camera to be just a little more behind, instead of above the character. I tried the camera in Follow, Drive and default, all of the options and Could not increase my range of sight. Still, the trees blocked the camera, allowing only the small bubble of sight. I do love everything else about the way NWN ee plays on the iPad, but the shortened range of sight is really terrible. Please look into changing the default for iPad users. Thank you..Version: 1.0.3

CD key for multiplayer missing and other issuesA great game and a solid developer, but the release is filled with bugs. I can’t access multiplayer because I need a ‘CD key’. Not sure what that’s about but uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn’t work to fix it. Also lots of crashes- for example when trying to learn a spell from a scroll. Overall- I expect beamdog will fix these issues but wow- there are a bunch. Wish I could play multiplayer.....Version: 1.0.0

Classic RPG bug crashes, poor ai and poor framerates keaves this on the shelf. As an older gamer I LOVE replaying the old RPGs and this doesn’t disappoint. It’s everything I remember. Few negatives however that seriously impact fun: The touch interface can be fiddly Characters often get caught in scenery especially behind open doors Random crashing can be annoying. Oh and auto save doesn’t work so If you haven’t manually saves then it’s tough. The worst is the problems with framerates dropping to single figures frequently and you have to reload the game. Only buy this after you have played all the other d&d games..Version: 1.0.2

Love the Game - Hate the CrashesI’ve been Playing NWN since it’s first release on PC and have played on many other platforms along the way. This is a beautiful, full port and in that respect it’s fantastic. However, playing as a Wizard, the game crashes constantly and without fail whenever you try to add a spell to your spellbook. Please fix. I want to play as my favorite class!.Version: 1.0.0

This is crying out for controller supportOtherwise great game let down by some sub optimal controls.Version: 1.0.5

GlitchesWas going well until the second chapter. Henchmen quest can’t be completed as you can’t pick up items. Henchmen now following me around dead..Version: 1.0.1

Battery drainGreat game and love to see it as I remember it from years ago. I have a big issue after spending $13.99. I played for half hour and my battery dropped from 80% to 47%. Not too happy about that. Hope it changes. Thanks. Hmm. No response from developers. Sad. More bugs now. Can’t copy wizard spells to spell book. Crashes every time. When I use stone of recall it doesn’t bring me back but takes my 50 gold every time. Too bad. I was really looking forward to this. Don’t usually buy games but I played Baldur’s gate with no issue. Hope this gets fixed and then I’ll give stars back..Version: 1.0.0

CluelessNot a clue what to do. I’m glad the game was only cheap.Version: 1.0.3

Wouldn't recommend this for phonesCamera controls and scripts could not be adjusted properly, after making adjustments through the options screen. The game is not enjoyable d/t difficulty switching to an acceptable first person or free moving top down. The script is too small. It can be increased, yet must be reduced again in order to access the game screen..Version: 1.0.4

Keeps crashingI’ve been trying to play the first expansion pack, the shadows of undrentide, but within like 20 minutes the game has crashed twice in different places at different times. Going to uninstall and reinstall, and try to go through again. Pretty upsetting though, I was loving this.Version: 1.0.4

Too small for iPhone 12I am sure this is an amazing game, however it is ridiculously small and therefore unplayable on an iPhone 12 standard. I wish they would tag this as “iPad only”. Refund requested..Version: 1.0.4

Great game, good port, UX issues, slow updatesFirst: the game is great, if dated. I won’t review the game itself here as there is plenty out there about it. Short version: it’s great. The port to iOS is mostly good. The major feature of NWN, custom modules and content, is supported just the same as the PC version, though you will have to jump through a few hoops with iTunes file sharing for all but the simplest modules. The bad is the interface, which is woefully unacceptable on my iPad at least. The hot bar is drawn to the very edge of the screen and often fails to register taps. You must either choose between the chat/combat log OR the menu buttons. You can’t have both. The original is HEAVILY designed for a two-button mouse, which of course is impossible on the iPad, so right-click is emulated with a long tap. And you need to right click. All. The. Time. A “smart click” that right-clicked on single tap for certain interactions would have been lovely. The iOS version is also quite far behind the PC in version number. Which is to be expected to some extent, but with no updates published in over two months, I’m beginning to wonder..Version: 1.0.1
