✓ What I neededI am in geek heaven. I have quickly scanned 300+ CDs into this and exported it as CSV for backup. It finds nearly everything, even some bootlegs and obscurities. It’s easy to add something manually and even add a photo of it. Works well and it was well worth the money..Version: 8.9.6

✓ Easy ListingI was desperate to find a way of listing my cd collection so that I could refer to it at record fairs and/or charity shops. MusicBuddy works so well, allowed me to list 2000 items in a few hours and giving me so much information about each album including the art work. When the app doesn’t recognise the barcode it is also simple to add items manually. Excellent app..Version: 9.4.5

✓ AwesomeThis is a truly awesome app. I have catalogued my 1000+ vinyls and 200+ cassettes easily and with accurate and complete track listings, cover art, musicians and dates of release. An unexpected extra was the barcode scanner, online videos and online info… truly amazing and great for completists and music nerds (like me!). Worth ten times the price and you can backup and export your collection to spreadsheet with ease. A great way to really get to grips with your collection and share with others. I wish I’d had this app ten years ago when all I had was a card index! Improvements? How about alphabetical artist listings by second name, Discogs market values, search reveals track, not just album and of course 30 second track audio previews? Otherwise an unbeatable app. How about ability to flag favourite tracks in an album. Also need to flag condition of vinyl albums. Ability to build playlists? Mix tapes? ✓ A Well Thought Out AppMusic Buddy is extremely well thought out. It is so easy to use. I entered 88 albums in two to three hours. It’s amazing how searching for an album online in Music Buddy finds the album you want, even albums from the 50s and 60s. Sometimes you have to choose the year of release, but only if you are bothered to do so. Using a bar code to search for later albums illuminates that problem and would make entering albums much quicker. After trying the free app for the 50 album limit I paid for the Pro upgrade. All in-all one of my favourite and most useful apps. I’m now using Book Buddy with similar results..Version: 9.1.12

✓ Great appIt’s a great app and the tech support from the developer is brilliant, always happy to answer questions very quickly. Before entering your collection though I would recommend have a practice run and make sure you get all the detail you need importing from Discogs in the set up in MusicBuddy. I wanted to distinguish between cd and vinyl and it wasn’t until I started scanning cd’s that I realised the ‘media type’ wasn’t coming in. So I’m having to export to csv, edit, then re-import. No major hassle but I could have avoided it and maybe a later release would allow a ‘refresh’ option from Discogs, to update any additionally selected fields? Just a thought. ✓ Does what i need, and moreI’m not looking for more than a basic catalogue of my albums so that if i’m shopping i can know what i own and what i don’t, so a lot of the categorising fields are superfluous to me, but it’s great to have a track listing on hand to compare versions. one oddity i noticed straightaway: if you tell it to sort artists by Last Name, First Name, you will get some… odd results. Amish Love Child is sorted as Child, Amish Love. it’s a band. it should be sorted as Amish Love Child. i feel like this might be information which could be gleaned from MusicBrainz. the bar code scanner works, which puts it ahead of Discogs’s app (which appears to be little more than a purpose-built web browser for the site). i can scan a dozen CDs and then import them. i scanned about 30 discs tonight and it recognised most of them (all but four). i wish the database it uses to look up the UPCs were more complete, but i don’t mind doing manual lookups for the few albums it doesn’t recognise. considering i’ve got close to 1,000 CD to inventory, it’s a LOT better than having to manually enter (and match releases) them one by one on Discogs. it would be nice if i could link it to my Bandcamp account to inventory my purchases there, but i’m not even sure that’s technically possible. also, there’s an emphasis on loaning items, which is great for people who actually loan their music to others, but i don’t, and wish i could hide that. it reminds me i don’t have any friends. ;).Version: 9.3.9

It’s excellent at scanning in single and multiple bar codes, the search is excellent, the category and tag system is flexible and even the export is much appreciated - though nothing seems to have an import. The ONE thing that has me looking for another App is the Discogs integration. I want to be able to assess the value of my collection and even sell items if desired. You should expect a 10% failure rate on obscure labels, older CDs and some boxed sets (especially if the CDs are reissues). The Search the Internet feature worked well the two or three times I tried it. Overall, does what's promised without much fuss. ✓ This is nifty but…UPDATED: I’m glad you can ignore articles by switching to “ignore articles” in settings. I have inherited a ton of vinyl, lots of it old and obscure. I wanted a way to catalog my vinyl so I would know exactly what I have, regardless if I’ll ever listen to that. I’m neurotic that way. I *might* someday be curious to know if I own it. Also helpful when I go record shopping to see what I have. I’ve been using the app for awhile now. I appreciate the large database and ease of finding obscure albums. However, there are a few things that I dislike about it. The catalog entries aren’t universally-thorough. I’m assuming they’re user-submitted. Lots of information missing about genres and individual artists in compilations. It’s not perfect, but it’s nice to know what I have..Version: 9.4.4

This is very easy to use even if you have some early CDs that don’t have usable barcodes and have to do a search. ✓ Great app, lacking in display options, themes, but data richThere are prettier apps out there which display your album/cd art to better advantage. This app lacks the beauty and display capabilities of some of those apps. Where it really shines is the level of data that is tracked and the ability to display it by numerous attributes like composer, orchestra, artist, conductor. If this app added some of the more elegant display settings and themes like CLZ music for instance, it would be the hands down winner. I love CLZ for is beautiful graphical display and themes but as far as tracking data elements, sorting, filtering, it can’t compare with Music Buddy and it costs 3x more. It doesn’t let you add your own categories. CLZ doesn’t even track composer or orchestra, instead focusing on artist only which is less helpful. I cannot for instance see at a glance which cds I have that are composed by Haydn or Mozart. In CLZ I would have to enter composer for each cd manually. In music buddy the cover art is really small, so an option to display it larger or a different theme without media art blended in would be nice. I don’t need to see a cd on each one, since I only have cds. The look is a bit dated. I like the ability to store notes as well for each album/cd..Version: 8.8.1
