NETGEAR Orbi - WiFi System App for Negative User Reviews

SupportMy satellite would not sink. They wanted $89 to tell me how to solve the problem. Their problem! That is the worst “support” I ever got from a company. I will never buy Netgear again.Version: 2.26.0.61

Remote accessCan’t set anywhere access, it tells me to check my internet connection when I set it to on and when I check if it is ON it is back to off…. Support is not helping..Version: 2.27.1.79

App doesn’t workAfter working for 2 years, firmware has been updated and it is now impossible to access the hub via app or browser. All steps like power down and turning off private WiFi on iPhone except factory reset which is a massive job which don’t have time for while working and there have been some reports of factory reset not working and so unable to set up. A cynical person might say these poor updates are active obsolescence - unimpressed!.Version: 2.18.1.3

SleazyAs if it weren’t bad enough that this app requires an email address (which violates basic privacy principles - namely not collecting information unless necessary), App Store disclosures now show this app tracks users across apps and other platforms for advertising and marketing purposes. This is not an app for some free, ad-supported service. It’s an app to control expensive hardware that users own. There is no excuse for the developer to treat its customers like marks. Please stop tolerating these sleazy practices. Netgear - I don’t care that there is a web interface. That doesn’t give you any excuse to use this app as a tracking and marketing tool..Version: 2.7.6.3

SetupSetting up my new Orbi was dreadful. Firstly, got zero internet connection. After 3 failures, changed out the new cat5 Ethernet cable supplied by Orbi with the old cat6 from my old router. Solved that problem immediately. The simply could not initialise via the app. After 3 more failures, call my son to come over and help. Long story short, while he is a techno wizard it took him about 2 hours to get us going. He had no idea why, he supposed my iPhone had some sort of incompatibility. So it’s been set up on his phone, with him as the administrator. Not ideal but it works. That’s the only reason I rated it as high as 3..Version: 2.7.0.28

This APP is trash for fibre setupIt took me 3 days to realise that the smartphone app for Orbi setup is trash. The fibre modem connection requires ADVANCED settings that can only be accessed through the normal web browser. This app needs access to the advanced setting panel, otherwise it’s a waste of time..Version: 2.5.4.0

Orbi now worksI would have given you 5 stars but your customer services is terrible. First I called and the. They asked for a number to call back. I did get disconnected and you staff never called back (strike 1). I called back and was on hold for over 40 mins, I step out of the room for a second and when I returned, I was hung up on (strike 2). Now I was upset. I called again and a staff member answered the call to allocate the call to the correct department. I told him I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I was told no supervisor is available at the time. He was ready to send me off to the tech support when I said no. I had already done this and did not want to wait on hold for 40min. He stated he would stay on the line with me. I was transfer and he left and again I was on hold. After 30 mins, I hung up. I purchased the extended custom service for two years. I want my money back! I was able to finally fix it myself. I will never buy Netgear items again and I will advise everyone to never buy your products. It appears as a company model, you are substantially lacking in customer service..Version: 2.6.2.9

App ok but orbi connectivity is terribleI installed Orbi with two satellites approx 2 months ago. Was quite complex to set up but got it running after about a day. Range was awesome and everything seemed stable. But after a about two weeks devices started disconnecting - a month later I have still not solved. The devices see full WiFi, the up load download speeds are great but the devices (iPad, lap top, iPhones) won’t connect. I turn off and reboot everything and sometimes this works but often not. Then a couple of says later the devices connect again. Weird and not good enough. Buy something else.Version: 2.3.7.6

Great product, terrible appThe Orbi product works great, no questions there. The mobile app to actually set up the Orbi does not. After 2hrs trying to get it to work with the app I had to hard reset the device and use the web interface to actually set it up. I have a tech/IT background and found it a challenge so can only imagine someone who isn’t tech savvy attempting it. I would recommend using the web interface straight up and only bother with the app after it’s set up if you don’t like using the web interface..Version: 2.14.0.300

Why do I have to log inWhy I have to log in to my netgear account to manage a router on my local network I don't understand. The fact I seem to have to do it most times I use the app is even more annoying. The router itself is great though..Version: 2.9.6.0

WiFi handover between main and satellite units diabolicalWe have constant issues with wifi - we have to turn wifi off and on, otherwise it just hangs. Seems to be a real problem with handover between main and satellite..Version: 2.26.0.61

GarbageThis app is a real garbage, useless in most ways, not even able to show the network status correctly. It's very slow and most of the functionality is broken. I paid for parental control and can't even add devices to different profiles. Beware!!.Version: 2.32.0.234

Can’t Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz BandsI’ve been an avid Netgear supporter for years even advocating for other to buy their devices, but I spent nearly $300 only to find out that you can’t create separate SSIDs for the bands or even just have the ability to manually change which bands certain devices connect to at all. I’ll probably be returning the device and not buying anymore Netgear devices again. Edit: Update to Developers response - I think it’s great that the developers have decided that to take an approach that is not customizable while incredibly expensive leading the consumer to believe its a high end product. Having a default setting is one thing, that lack of ability to provide consumers a choice within advanced settings is poor design. Like I stated, I will no longer be purchasing Netgear products as this is the generic type of response that is received when anyone brings up this topic in the forums on Netgear which they have repeatedly being doing for over two years with no response from Netgear to resolve the issue..Version: 2.3.5.20

This app as terrible optimizationI get kicked out of my account every couple months for no reason at all. Whether it be security purposes or just a bug its very annoying considering we have face ID to verify our identity. I wouldn’t mind going through this process if the app was more responsive rather than me looking at a screen load forever..Version: 2.29.0.123

No Real App UpdatesMany of the reviews here praise the app because of the Netgear hardware, but these reviews are confusing the fact that reviews here are for the app. I agree, the hardware is great, and reliable, but the app hasn't had any real changes in about two years. I'm a paying customer for their services and those appear to do nothing either. Many of the app workflows are confusing or don't work well. I have a network with over 100 devices (smart home) and the network management features are not designed for large networks. This is the only app I know that you scroll horizontally over 100 devices, it doesn't work well. Also, I get notifications of new devices joining the network, but when I tap on it to get to it, I'm sent to the same horizontal list with out the new device being selected, no hint as to which device joined. No sorting, no filtering, no grouping. I WILL BE CANCELING BOTH SUBSCRIPTIONS WHEN THEY COME UP FOR RENEWAL..Version: 2.27.0.77

It’s - fine. It’s great to be able to manage a mesh wifi system with an app, but the Disney circle integration is terrible. There a known bug: if you sign up for circle then change mobile phones, you can no longer access circle. You can’t rest the password. Game over. There’s no fix. This even happens if you reset your phone. Also, scheduled restarts and/or scheduled updates would be awesome..Version: 2.11.6.0

Armor features are buggy for iOSUseful app for initial setup and for day to day checks and observations. But there are long standing bugs or issues: The speed app results differ dramatically from the Speedtest client on the desktop or phone, but at least they are consistent, and I suspect this is caused by it not allowing you to select an appropriate server from your ISP (no indication which server is used). The Armor Security feature doesn't recognise that Bitdefender is installed and running on iOS devices, and thinks notifications are disabled, resulting in meaningless lower security scores. It thinks smart devices are eligible for Bitdefender when they are not, and there's no feature to whitelist or exclude devices such as work devices where you're permitted to install Bitdefender on them. These issues have been raised numerous times in the community forum and as support cases over the last year. Room for significant improvement..Version: 2.23.0.67

Average app with many missing features; can’t connect for months nowJune 2022 - For the latest few months the app has been unable to connect to my Orbi system, even though it is available and the iPhone and iPad are connected to the Orbi WiFi network. The web admin portal works fine. After lots of testing I’ve discovered that the Orbi app is not compatible with iCloud Private Relay. If you disable Private Relay, the Orbi app is able to connect to the Orbi WiFi network. I don’t understand why this should be the case; the app should be connecting locally to the Orbi router, and Private Relay doesn’t impact local network traffic. This implies that the Orbi app is actually trying to connect to the Orbi router via unprotected http protocol across the internet, which is very concerning… please fix this issue! The app should work with iCloud Private Relay. The app is very average and quite limited. It’s basically a wrapper around a web page but it’s missing many of the features that can be configured if you login to the Orbi via a browser. Good to for initial setup but needs to support the full range of Orbi features in order to be useful. Needs to be updated to support iPhone X screen resolution. Should also work in landscape mode on iPads..Version: 2.18.1.3

Not impressedFunctional app it is not. When you pay for a product you should get the whole package for the function. NOT subscription based add ons. Accessing web browser based settings is creepy when Netgear is tracking you. All this software is also needed as my Orbi RB50 constantly goes into repetitive slow down until it is factory reset every week. Disappointing. Netgear won’t be my next purchase..Version: 2.20.1.9

Not very happy with OrbiThe app is very basic and continues to try and sell you on their security future. But my biggest problem with Orbi is the fact that you do not get out of the router, the speed that go into the router. At the time I purchased this router it was the top of the line Orbi, and yet it’s still is incapable of giving me gigabytes speeds wirelessly. I will certainly not be buying another Orbi after this, because the advertisements do not live up to the reality. And I have to laugh when I see the new Orbi for more than $2000 and I cannot imagine them doing anything more than this one does, so don’t waste your money. This was over $1200 when I bought it and it is never achieved anything close to the speeds it claimed, so why on earth would I think the $2000+ one is going to be any different. And just to mention, I have three units in a Reasonably medium size apartment, and they still cannot achieve Anything close to what they claimed. And forget about customer service. That is just not even worth talking about. So if you’re not happy, you’re sort of stuck that way..Version: 2.31.0.195

AwfulAnother update to my 750 and the entire network crashes. Same thing every time and after rebooting a minimum of five times, lost satellites and devices that can’t connect you just do a hard reset and regret ever owning an orbi product. If I felt inclined to spend another grand on routers I’d replace these and never look back. Orbi is simply a terrible app with minimal function, and a lot of promotion that supports a device that belongs on a scrap heap. How Netgear still sells this thing is beyond me, the reviews on their website are fakes for sure. Update. A few months on an nothing has improved, every update seems to require a factory reset, the performance is mediocre and the app despite near bi weekly updates is still basic and terribly limited. I still wish I’d got any other option, literally anything but Netgear orbi. Update july 23: performance improvements and app is getting better but issue remain, every firmware update crashes devices which then require multiple reboots and full reset to get back up and running. Remain unimpressed - for the money this should be faultless and Netgear should do far more testing before releasing updates to the hardware. Still wish I had not wasted over a thousand dollars on this rubbish..Version: 2.28.0.107

升级以后不能链接上路由器澳币路由每次升级后都不能链接远程链接上,每次都需要删除后重装,链接非常困难.Version: 2.21.1.353

The app is absolutely pathetic! The app is so clunky and each time it’s updated it might work or it might not. Last night I could use the app with a one time password and remove a device from my network, today with the app I can’t login and I can’t give access for the device to the network so it’s locked out! 😡 Forgot my password doesn’t follow the pattern of behaviour for forgot my password. You used to be able to use a one time password, forget that because of/when you can get a one time password it takes to to reset a password only if you can remember a password for the ‘admin’ account which you never named ‘admin’. Get some people in your team and get some UX Designers if you don’t have any, or replace them with ones who know what they’re doing, because your app is total garbage! 😡.Version: 2.21.0.329

Bugs in latest releaseGreat system but have noticed the system hasn’t been as reliable over the last month, have WiFi drop outs quite often despite having 3 AX units all hardwired to the router. Also the latest version of the app won’t do a firmware check and crashes when trying to use the Support option on the menu. Hope these issues can be fixed asap….Version: 2.12.0.22

Great router, painful appVery impressed with the router but cannot stand the app. Unable to turn on or off data for more than one device at a time without closing and restarting app otherwise it crashes. Then every now and again it will require logging in again with multi factor authentication despite being on same network and having just been logged in to. All this still occurs regardless of numerous updates..Version: 2.23.0.67

MisleadingI have the Orbi RBR763S. App description is misleading due to the fact that I don’t have access to all the features of the application. Things like not being able to test my isp’s connection from the router. Was able to do that from my nighthawk router before upgrading to this system..Version: 2.23.0.67

Setup can’t find satelliteBought this recently for my parents. Setup of the mesh router and satellite is really slow. The app first takes 2min for the satellite to power up, then another 2-3min to try and find the satellite. The app never found it even after trying all the troubleshooting steps multiple times. For some strange reason the app detects the satellite now - despite the app never finding it. Google Wifi/Home setup was much quicker and better in comparison..Version: 2.19.1.3

I just wanted a fast router not an administrative hassleThe technology has been great but everything else has been very poor. I had to create an account to use the app which should not be the case. I kept getting prompts to pay for services I did not want. Now the login to the app is not recognizing the password and I have to reset everything..Version: 2.20.1.9

Finally works but painful setupWas expecting a far smoother installation than it turned out to be. I’m pretty clued on when it comes to this sort of thing, working in the industry for 20+ years, but even with my background this wasn’t simple. There’s no way my wife could have done it, let alone my mother. Anyway it working now. Three requests though: 1. Please look into why the app draws so much power that after a few minutes my iPhone 11 Pro is almost too hot to hold. If I exit the app it cools down again. This app is really pushing the CPU hard - for what reason I can’t imagine. 2. Please provide more device type icons! I have home devices such as door bells and garage doors on my network and the lack of icons is triggering my OCD. 3. The spam catcher features loses its mind if I open an in-app ad. Like notifications every second until the ad page is closed. The feature is a good idea but it’s far too aggressive. Would be nice to include some whitelisting facility to avoid FPNH (false-positive notification hell!).Version: 2.4.10.9

Great but issues recentlyAlways worked great and still does most of the time. However since the most recent update we seem to have niggly issues here and there with devices losing connection. Not sure if it’s related but the app says the two satellites are connected but the network map now looks like it’s from a webpage in 1996 and does not show the satellites and cannot see which specific devices are connected to which satellite or the router. The satellites are connected and have signal as devices wired to them still work..Version: 2.17.0.171

Needs ability to manage NetGear Armor from any deviceOverall, the app works pretty decent. It lacks several settings compared to logging in the web portal but I suppose that's to be expected in this consumer level router. The biggest issue I see is the inability to manage NetGear Armor from any device I'm signed in to. Only the very first device that was used to set up the router can access or see the Armor settings and get notifications. No other device, even if it's properly logged in and can manage all other aspects of the router (devices, network maps, wifi settings, etc) can manage the Armor settings. It stubbornly refuses to allow access to the Netgear Armor settings with an "Error: Unknown Error". I talked to Support about it and they were unable to meaningfully assist. Range and signal strength of the router itself is great. The incidence of wireless network related interruptions has significantly decreased since installing it. I just wish the Armor portion of the app could be fixed since it's a significant part of the security on the device..Version: 2.7.4.1

Requires netgear account to useAnd doesn’t have sign up or Sign in with Apple ID..Version: 2.23.0.67

Doesn’t show all devicesEver since the last firmware update neither the app nor the web portal show all devices attached to the router. It only shows about two thirds, despite the others still connected and working fine. Additionally one whole satellite doesn’t appear in the network app. This renders the whole thing completely pointless as I can’t see what devices are attached to what, and have no idea if someone else has managed to get on to my network..Version: 2.9.6.0

I wish it has such feature...I wish it shows real time data speed for individual device like google WiFi app.Version: 2.9.0.13

Blazing fast, but setup was a nightmareJust moved into a 100-year old multi-story house with plaster walls that were eating my old wifi signal alive, so I switched to Orbi after seeing the great reviews. Now that it’s finally set up it seems solid, and the reviews weren’t kidding: the 500Mbps wireless throughput still blows my mind. But Netgear has got to figure out why it’s iOS setup process is so terrible. I have as simple a setup as one could: pulled the router and satellite out of the box, plugged them in, but it took half a dozen tries for them even to recognize each other. And worst of all, every time the devices refused to cooperate, the app just sat there with no help, no advice. Netgear is clearly a hardware company, not a software company. I hope they’ll do some serious, advanced testing of their app—especially the new user onboarding process—so others won’t find themselves stuck in a seemingly endless loop of failure and rebooting as I was for nearly an hour. Finally, their decision not to devote the meager resources to enabling landscape mode in the iPad version of their setup app is a slap in the face to users. I use my iPad as a mini-laptop, with a keyboard case, and their app is one of the only apps I’ve seen that stubbornly refuses to rotate the UI to accommodate my setup..Version: 2.2.6.16

Total mess of an appI had a nightmare with the setup. It didn’t recognize the satellite when it was 10 feet away. This app provides nothing but endless waiting. Search for the satellite? How about watching a spinning circle for 3 minutes? Now do that 20 times and you will start to get the idea. For some operations there is a progress bar, but for most it is just a spinner and a message to wait for several minutes. After a reset the router forgot all admin passwords (including the default!) and was inaccessible. Finally after some combination of resets and new setups and power cycles, it finally found the satellite. Ultimately I started the install around 5pm, and everything was up and running by 9pm. The router has been working well for 8 days, but the app is broken. The device list is populated, but the app says none of them are connected to the network. The network map shows both routers, but no connected devices for either of them. The web interface for the router works as expected and shows all connected devices properly. So it is clearly an issue with the app parsing the data provided by the router. Finally, the app forces you into creating an account, and demands personal information. It automatically signs you up for trials of some virus protection BS, filling my inbox with spam from a company that I never interacted with. Welcome to a world with ads ON your router. This app is pathetically poor, and 2 stars is a very generous rating..Version: 2.4.12.5

Works great some of the timeAfter researching pretty extensively I decided to upgrade to Orbi. Also, I have the Zodiac iAqualink pool automation system with the iQ20 wifi receiver which I installed about three years ago. Problem is upgrading from Apple Airport Extreme to Orbi actually made things worse instead of better. Now my iAqualink system goes offline constantly. After having a pool automation expert look at it he recommended that I purchase the Orbi outdoor satellite. I did that and now have a strong signal at the pool equipment but still the iQ20 will not connect. After talking to Zodiac tech support they said that iAqualink will not work because the Orbi band steers between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and that the Orbi needs to be set to static 2.4Ghz. There is no easy way to change to static 2.4. I ended up setting up two separate SSID’s: one for each band. Now the iQ20 will connect about 10 percent of the time. On the positive side, in the house I have great signal in all rooms and streaming shows and movies work fine. The reason the app gets 3 stars is because only the most used settings can be changed there. Have to go to a web browser for advanced settings..Version: 2.3.7.6

Does Netgear have any QA or Test engineers? Try testing this app for once.Enabling or disabled internet access for a device disables it permanently until you reboot the damned router. App says router firmware is up to date: except it isn’t. Netgear’s website shows new firmware, but whooops, nope the app doesn’t. Shame about that big CVE that Orbi’s are vulnerable to… No useful error messages when trying to sync a new satellite. I could go on, because I sure as hell am not paying $80 per hour or whatever to try to use netgear’s support team..Version: 2.25.0.44

Painful4 weeks of constantly dropping in and out of connection. Logged issue with 2degrees and no contact for over a week..Version: 2.28.0.107

Frustrating ExperienceI’ve had Orbi for several years now. At times it works well and consistent, other times it’s basically useless. At random I will lose connections to satellites and need to resent them, which is an annoying process. The speed at my router says 94mbs up and down yet in my device, in the same room with a clear view of the hub only gets 46mbs per second download and 74 upload. There are often spots in the house that are basically dead spots. I have 3 satellites but even standing close to the satellite doesn’t improve things. The range of this equipment is no where near what they suggest. After continuous issues I’m going to look at a replacement for this Wifi system. It simply is not consistent enough to provide acceptable wifi for my house..Version: 2.25.0.44

Doesn’t find router, no support, no parental controlsMy app has stopped finding the router on the network while installed on my phone. There’s no obvious reason for it (I am connected to the correct WiFi) and it works on the iPad. No support available from netgear, as apparently my support has expired even though I’ve had these devices a few months only!! There is no parental control available with this app (or anything else), something you’d think would be a basic feature nowadays.Version: 2.16.0.296

Beware of the updateAfter several hours of using the system it crashed. It showed I had lots of bars but no device would connect. I reset everything and deleted the app and started over. Other reviews said it had to do with the firmware update. I’m hoping they’re correct. I’ll update review if it works after this..Version: 2.7.4.1

Great product, software lacking!Great Mesh WiFi system but disgraceful that security and access features are made by a third party where a subscription and another app is required to do any of the more advanced access and usage control. I paid a premium price for the product and did NOT expect to have to pay extra for the same level of control that all other premium devices include! Netgear, sort yourself out, this is NOT acceptable! You should make this very clear BEFORE people buy your product, I for one wouldn’t have if I’d known this in advance! The actual mesh switches are pretty good however, they do need rebooting once every 6 months or so..Version: 2.2.7.23

Almost 3 hoursTook me almost 3 hours to set it up. My previous set up was an Orbi as well and I assumed this one would work as easily. It did not. I started from scratch at least nine times probably more and the Orbi couldn't find itself. finally I made the phone call to get help and thought I would try one more time to connect and it finally worked. I didn't need to talk to anybody after all..Version: 2.29.0.123

Produit WifiDe la nature même du produit Wifi, on ne exclure une personne qui a le mot de passe via son adresse Ip ou contôler les accès up sur notre routeur. Pour le prix payé, c’est peu réconfortant!.Version: 2.29.1.129

Should be better at optimizing Device connectionsI have 2 Satellites to have a triangulation of coverage in my two story house, which should provide excellent overall coverage. But the problem is, when a device is connected to the WiFi, which ever Hub or Satellite was closest on first connecting... that’s where it forever stays. Simply put, no matter where I go in the house, say with my phone, if I’m closer and better connected to a different satellite, the system doesn’t automatically switch my connection to the best connection. It keeps me at the first, which may be bad at the other side of the house. This is retarded and defeats the purpose of adding more satellites... other than to just extend that initial link, which is fine for a static device, but seriously, mobile devices need to be able to get the best connections always. I should also be able to manage at least manually how a device is connected with whichever base or Satellite I want. Give me the control if the system itself fails to optimize the connections automatically. This to me is a huge oversight and failure of the company and product. This needs to get fixed, if they want to be seen as a premier WiFi connection company..Version: 2.4.12.5

Not suitable for young families. Dual app required and subscription. We have 2 young boys. The Orbi app does not come with Parental Controls for the Orbi we have and from what I can tell we have to download an additional app and pay for a subscription to get Parental Controls. Ahhhh, no. I will be removing this from our network and finding a more suitable alternative..Version: 2.31.0.195

2 years, working well, tough locationImpressed by Orbi, works very well in a Northamptonshire long house, 17th c, around 30 metres long, with four major walls, ironstone rubble infill. Previously tried powerful routers (sourced overseas) with higher outputs than EU allows, even with repeaters couldn’t ‘fill’ house, daughter in furthest bedroom never happy. Then tried I Orbi. Originally 1 main / 1 sat, now 2 sats, not only covers house and (surprisingly) even reaches our outbuildings. Security system and CCTV all very stable, have around 30 devices connected. I’m using the ‘original’ version, am sure the latest WiFi 6 better .... but just so expensive!.Version: 2.7.0.28

Stoppes working, no supportAfter two years of working fine suddenly stop working no more support this is going to junk.Version: 2.20.1.9

Dodgy conductBefore updating to the latest version, the update summary provided by the developer only stated version enhancements and bug fixes. It did not provide any indication that the latest update would require you to agree to new terms including the collection and use of your private analytics data without the option to opt out. You have no choice but to agree. That is really poor form and misleading conduct. I have purchased this item on the premise I can use and control from the app directly and for net gear to take that away from me after purchase because I do not wish for them to collect and use my private data is not ethical. Cmon - play fair and treat customers with respect. Don’t mislead and take advantage of customers. Give customers a choice with their private data so they can continue to use the app. Netgear have really gone downhill and just annoy me now..Version: 2.15.0.211

Great wifi but problem solving complexThe system should have been up and running in a few minutes but it took three hours before the ISP assigned an address and we could connect. There was no explanation and I assumed it was an installation problem. Armor check out connected assets and an unknown device named after a Chinese IT company popped up. It is not now listed but I have no idea what it was or why not was there. The app is simplistic and comforting but you really need to look at the web page if you have issues. Finally, it annoyingly tells me to subscribe to bitdefender security software although I already have it installed. But it is extremely fast and coverage is great - no dead spots. Hopefully I will get used to it..Version: 2.11.0.11

Parental ControlParental control no longer available in the App with my Orbi version even if my Orbi2 is only one year old.Version: 2.18.1.3

Horrible AppThis app is a disgrace for Netgear. It allegedly lets you set up an Orbi system, but let me back up slightly. When you open the Orbi box there is no instructions on setting up, just “download the Orbi app”. Ok, I do that and go through the process ... and the wi-fi is VERY buggy. After much wasted time I figure out how to login via the internet as an admin. Of course this information IS NOT included in the app. On the admin site I discover how to set the ORBI as an Access Point. Very, very, very important step in porter to use with my cable router (for internet, TV, phone). Ok, get this going. Still have problems but I get the system sort of working. Then I discover on the Netgear site that there is a User Manual for the ORBI. Why isn’t this linked in the “Getting Started” piece of crap they include with the hardware or on the Orbi app? This is just disgraceful! As a part of my searching for information I discover there are updates to the firmware on the Netgear site, but for some reason the app and the admin site do not see these, huh? After finally getting the system essentially stable my wife accidentally unplugs the power cord. Now the system is totally unstable and the app is ZERO use. If I can, I will return the Orbi .....Version: 2.3.0.31

It’s Alright ?!Purchased this system after i upgraded my incoming speed to 1Gig. Originally i had a Google WiFi mesh system, which in my opinion is excellent ! I bought the Orbi 3 pack plus an additional satellite (all the latest model in black) From the off i had problems as the additional satellite would not connect. Gave up on it after an hour of trying. Went on to the app the following morning and it had randomly connected itself. The app is slow and offers very limited functionality for a system as complex and as cutting edge as this is supposed to be. The customer service and tech support, despite paying for it is also not the best. The units do have great range however i have found that things randomly disconnect and re connect a lot, not sure why? Also, it doesn’t seem to connect devices to the closest satellite? Example, my smart tv in the lounge downstairs is connected to the satellite in my office at the back of my house upstairs, and my work laptop which sits right next to the office satellite is connected to the satellite in my kitchen downstairs?! Very odd, and hopefully something NetGear will address moving forward 🤞🏻.Version: 2.20.1.9

Requires account 👎👎👎👎👎Seriously? Users need to start telling companies to <deleted> when companies pull this. There is no acceptable reason to require an account for me to administer MY OWN DEVICE in MY OWN HOME!.Version: 2.21.0.329

Insists on knowing your location following the latest updateOk so the Wi-Fi coverage is greatly improved in my house now I have a couple of Orbi devices but this is a review of the app. Is anyone else curious about the fixes that aren’t detailed in the update description each time the app is updated? Any chance we could get some actual release notes? How come after updating the app today I can no longer use it? The initial screen asks to know my location and warns my experience could be “diminished” if I do not consent. The only way forward is to click Continue which takes you to your location settings to grant access. There is no button for “No thanks”. The app won’t let you in so that’s that it seems. If I had been notified of this change I wouldn’t have downloaded this update....Version: 2.4.6.1

Too expensive for service offeredWiFi seems okay mostly but some dropping in and out. My main issues is being expected to pay for parental controls, i.e. having to pay for circle so WiFi to individual devices can be regulated. Really frustrating as WiFi modem provided by nbn provider did this but didn’t provide coverage if house that Orbi does. If I was purchasing again I’d look for something with free parental controls.Version: 2.5.1.2

Can’t hurt their business…I’m only 1 customerThe app is just ok as it applies to the UI. The main issue is that the status that displays in the app, is sometimes inaccurate, and is usually different than what displays on the web portal. Overall, I am VERY dissatisfied with both the hardware and the software, because I’ve only had this kit for 18 months and the satellite RBS50, is inoperable after 1.5 years of use. Netgear support admitted that the satellite is now useless and refused to address it, because I didn’t purchase the extra coverage and I am past 1 year. They did not want to discuss it with me, and longer, so they lied and said they would escalate it and email me within 48 hours. The only thing this accomplished was getting me off the phone. It is true that the customer service rep was cordial, but I really don’t appreciate being lied to, not to mention wasting money on something that should last more than a year and a half. Now, the WiFi signal on the router (RBR50) goes out about once a day. I guess Netgear expects consumers to replace technology about once every 2 years or so…Keeps them in business, I guess. But hey, I can’t hurt their business, I’m only 1 customer..Version: 2.10.0.16

All satellites have vanished from the app and there’s no supportWe’ve paid over £800 for a router and 4 satellites. We have an issue that the satellites appear to have vanished from the app so I can’t manage them. They appear to still be active and being used, but I have no real way to tell. The bigger issue is that after spending so much there is no support as it’s outside the tiny 90 window. I am willing to buy extended support but it’s not available. This appears to be a way to convince us to upgrade. A big shame as otherwise Orbi is quite special..Version: 2.11.0.11

Buggy and poor supportSpeed test options worked initially, but then stopped. Lengthy call to support, was told “known issue” and would be fixed in an update. Still unresolved. Several connected devices not showing despite being connected. Also told this was a “known issue” and would be resolved. Nothing yet! Not impressed... wish I had considered different brand. Very expensive system - you expect it to work as described. Would not recommend..Version: 2.7.2.18

Crappy UXThis app is a masterpiece in how to overcomplicate something that should be so easy, that the end result is that the task to be completed, actually cannot be completed. I can only assume the monster who wrote this software actually attempted to make something that was both unusable and reliable at the same time. In that case. Bravo. Well done. You did a great job. I tried to set up router. Can't do that. Because I need a net gear account, to get a net gear account I need internet, which means I need router working. Revert to mobile data. Try to enter password from password manager. Let's me paste to password field but it doesn't populate the field with what I pasted. Finally setup. Now it wants to check for firmware. This times out. F great. Revert to using PC to login so I can skip. But now it has decided the password I copied from my password manager is incorrect. And I need to reset it using the serial number on the unit itself. Time to go hang myself I think. This should have been a 5 minute job, it took an hour following the steps exactly as per the app..Version: 2.10.5.17

Treats you like “my first modem”Such a frustrating interface. Easy to use unless something goes wrong because if nothing is wrong tot don’t need to use it Keeps trying to up sell a security product I don’t want Says it’s offline when it clearly isn’t because it’s own Speedtest says it’s getting 654 down grr.Version: 2.4.24.1

Easy to install, privacy issues!I was blown away by how easy this was to install in my home after using so many difficult and crappy wifi extenders that meant I had to login to separate routers throughout the house.. this is seamless technology that is awesome to use. HOWEVER.. updating the firmware is not straightforward and I seem to get error messages. Also I do not agree with the collection of my personal data without my consent. I’ve spend over $500 on this system and expected personal control on how I use this system and what if any data is collected and distributed to 3rd parties..Version: 2.24.0.44

So-so app. Rampant data collection with no opt-out if you use itThe app it self...it’ ok. It has some neat info displays but doesn’t have the same level of functionality as the web GUI. …but here’s the big problem: you must create a Netgear login to use it and IT CONSTANTLY COLLECTS DATA AND ASSOCIATES IT WITH YOUR LOGIN if you do. While other Netgear product lines allow you to opt out of data mining and creating a Netgear account the Orbi product line HAS NO OPT OUT! It says so right on their support site. To use this product without Netgear spying on you skip this app. Just use the web GUI to manage your network and do not create a Netgear login or associate your Orbi device with it. If you want to go the extra step put the ip addresses Netgear uses for data collection into your firewall and redirect them to localhost. For a company whose business is networking and security, having an app that demands you create an online account is unacceptable. Use the local web interface which is better anyway but demand better from app makers!.Version: 2.15.0.211

No functionality - Great WifiSince buying the Orbi RB50 mid 2017 our home coverage, speed and reliability has never been better. BUT it has been crushed in the functionality in the department by the likes of “another cheaper wifi extender” whom I won’t mention here - by adding some simple app controls like wifi restriction per device, parental time controls and update version info/manual updates via the app it would truly make this the worlds best Triband. Better Wifi everywhere - now we just need to control it. Netgear hopefully there will be an update with these features in the very near future don’t let parents like myself end up downgrading to a worse Triband just to keep up with the required controls. Hope you guys get this.. thanks.Version: 1.6.16

LimitedNo HomeKit support. No ability to disable 2.4ghz 5ghz bands. Otherwise, few issues. Would be nice if they listened to their customers asking for such basic functionality..Version: 2.31.0.195

Does not support setup of smart home deceivesTo be clear the ORBI NEST setup does produce a 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz networks under the “Nest”. However, they presume the user is operating at the lowest level of understanding of communication networks. Their selling point is that the system is so smart it can decide which network your device should be on ( ie it will choose a 2.4 or 5 ghz network for you)…. Cool huh? NO …. Smart home devices (smart lights, garage controllers, tesla wall charger and my Sauna) require that their initial setup be conducted with a device connected to 2.4ghz. So my issue is - ORBI wont allow me to push my phone to a 2.4ghz network to connect these other VERY EXPENSIVE devices to the wifi network. I need you to enable a feature that is so so so basic - so basic that even the lower end wifi router producing companies can provide. Otherwise, I need to change my choice of home wifi router providers. I have invested a lot in the Netgear ORBI system and cannot believe you haven’t done basic user testing with actual users ….Version: 2.27.0.77

Not as expected given the $2500 CAD systemVery basic app with nowhere near as many features as eero that I had and speeds are mediocre at best. Invested in this to get better speeds but was very disappointed with both the device and the app features.Version: 2.28.0.107

Security costs extraIt’s not a bad app for managing the Orbi’s basic functions, but if you need to do something interesting, then you need to go through the Orbi’s web interface - which tells you that the app is better the whole time that you’re using it. After a month, the app’s security features become a subscription service. On a $1500 set of routers, I would expect security to be standard and included, not a subscription add on. My next router will not be from this brand because my security needs to be as important to my router manufacturer as it is to me..Version: 2.13.1.4

Frustratingly InconsistentI have a set of three Orbi SR60s that I’ve been using for two and a half years. From ‘You are not connected to the internet’ to being unable to log in for months because of an update issue, to having multiple smart home items blocked from connecting without being able to tell how or why in the app, I am sincerely disappointed in this app. Just incredibly buggy. In terms of competence with networks and setting up mesh systems I would consider myself a mid-level user. I can figure out most problems using experience, google and trial and error. I have a demanding engineering career and do not want to spend time dealing with tech support, I want an intuitive app that just works. This is not that app. It seems to be riddled with connectivity issues and is frequently unable to even connect to my router and the two satellites I have. I just stopped using it after it told me for the 20th time it couldn’t find my hardware. If there’s an issue with the mesh system I do a hard reset and let it reconnect; no need to open the app because it wouldn’t help anyways. I have purchased a set of ASUS XT8s and am anticipating a better experience from the ASUS app. Too bad because the SR60s were so promising..Version: 2.19.1.3

Poor compared to competitorsThis app is appalling when one considers the size and resources of a company the size of Netgear against their newer and smaller competitors. I would urge you to take a look at similar offerings from Google and Plume, for example. In terms of performance, it typically takes 30-60 seconds from launch to accurately reflect that my internet connection is online, the correct number of satellites connected, and the devices. The first two of those should be instant. The latter I can understand taking some time to populate. The speed test also fails quite consistently, reporting inability to connect. Some things that would help: 1. The ability to show which devices are connecting to which satellite or access point. This is fundamental when trying to diagnose issues. 2. The ability to set one or more devices as priority on the network. 3. Some statistics on the current network and broadband utilization, with ability to view historical stats on the same, which devices are actively internet and at what rate, etc. It also needs proper support for the iPhone X display..Version: 2.1.2.16

Excessive spam and advertisingFundamentals of app are fine but netgear is completely out of control with trying to get users to sign up to subscription services. They’ve done it with Arlo and now Orbi. The constant prompts to pay for parental controls or their security suite (armour) are beyond annoying and wreck a good app..Version: 2.12.5.56

Icons pleaseOne of the main reasons I got this router was because was it supported a lot of devices with different icons. Even on the box art and within this app’s screenshots it shows “PlayStation 4” with a PS4 icon even iPhone X and MacBook icons. The router or app cannot detect this level of information of a connected device. Why show that it can in the advertising when it can’t? Please provided the Icons you show in the app and box art. False advertising or lies? You decide..Version: 2.5.1.2

Parental controls are cumbersome and lackingI was wondering pretty excited about getting this WiFi router. I’ve been hearing such great things about mesh type WiFi routers. Setup was easy and comes in two flavors; the Orbi app or a web browser. I chose the Orbi app and it was easy. Our WiFi was up and running within 20 minutes. Every item we have connected easily to the router and speeds seemed great (no specific speed tests were run, just watched Netflix on each device). I have a 14 year old and needed to setup some limits. I had time limits for each day on my old router where it would allow a connection to the internet between 7am and 10pm on his devices. I also have a few websites blocked through my old router. I could not do this on the Orbi. You had to use Open DNS (separate website) along with the Orbi’s parental controls menu to setup websites or servers. You could not, however, setup times for internet access to devices. This is unacceptable to me. The Orbi has Circle Disney setup on it, which gives you more parental controls at a cost of $5/month?!?! That is also a separate login. Both Circle and what little parental controls within the Orbi router was just too complicated and lacking for me to keep the device, so we returned it and reconnected our old WiFi router. We now will be looking for another router manufacturer for our home..Version: 2.1.2.16

Poor app and poor networking equipmentSo the app now refuses to connect to the router despite being on the same network and within about 5 foot of the actual unit. The hardware itself is poor, the traffic light system is poor as quite often the unit can’t decide which light it should show and it often resembles a disco. LAN back haul is flawed and has stopped working. Now the main router refuses to acknowledge the previously added satellites and after some investigation now shows they’re set back to factory default despite no intervention. Which means I have an insecure AP sat on my private network because of this..Version: 2.2.7.23

Too much workFar too much to do. Even more cords Not plug in play plus you have to put an app on your phone that requires bothersome signing in and out. You have to do too much just to have wifi. Hoha as..Version: 2.25.0.44

OrbiThis device keeps dropping the wifi. It’s junk!!.Version: 2.20.1.9

Doesn’t Work And They Don’t CareThis app is nothing but a screaming frustration. We have so many issues with it, and with the supposed ‘Support’ we paid for (another waste) and the admins of this app could care less. We’ve opened case complaints with them, which are NEVER followed through on. Their front line ‘support’ either doesn’t have the authority or the training to solve issues and when our case was kicked to to ‘App Team’ for resolution, it might as well have been kicked into a black hole. No one from NETGEAR has EVER responded in any fashion to our issues, and when we call ‘premium’ support they are nothing short of obstructionist, refusing to acknowledge a case has moved beyond their capacity to resolve. Our case complaints for multiple problems with this app was opened on August 29th. As of Sept 3rd, No One from NETGEAR has contacted us as promised, (originally supposed to be 24 hours. Then 48. Then - silence from them) Don’t waste your money or your time with this app - the admins/creators certainly don’t want to waste any of theirs with those of us who have purchased this system and downloaded this app - and encounter problems..Version: 2.11.5.17

SetupAll went well and going smooth until we had to connect to the actual internet. Connection could not be made. According to my tech wizard son this is common for an American product in Australia. Not to hard to fix, if you know what to look for. He can not get here for a few days, luckily we can still use the old network. Why is this not pointed out at point of sale? Cheers,.Version: 2.4.12.5

Not easy to set upI have been trying for over 3 hours to get this device setup. It won’t connect to my existing WiFi. And there is only a little card as a quick start. No operating manual at all. I can’t go back to any previous screens on the app. There was no ‘security’ verification in the app. Orbi shows up on my settings as unsecured device. Right now it’s not worth the $200 I paid for it. I can’t get ahold of any tech support that is advertised. Troubleshooting through their website...gave all info only to be instructed to contact internet service provider. I was on the phone with internet provider for almost an hour and I got so frustrated with them saying that my modem will be turned off when I connect orbi. Well...I got to get the dang orbi connected first. 🤬. ETA…a year later and this thing has given me nothing by headaches. Every couple of weeks I have to reset everything and start over. Now I’m being told that if I want phone support, I have to pay another $140. Because they only allow 90 days of support. I’ve used more than 90 days in this last year resetting this thing. They sure do want your money for a product that is crappy. And then more money to actually help you make it work. During my last reset, all of the info from it got wiped out of the app. ??? How???.Version: 2.12.0.22

Great conceptThis is a really good concept. I would appreciate more advanced controls on the mesh network and better refresh capabilities.Version: 2.19.1.3

Just okWifi around the house is pretty good but the up-dates are driving me mad. The app won’t auto up-date and it’s a nightmare trying to do it manually..Version: 2.7.6.3

Local network access no longer functionsThe Orbi hardware is excellent and has drastically improved my network speeds. One thing that could be improved is the app, when first setting up my Orbi satellites the app worked when connecting locally for a few months but it seems after an update or bug has possibly caused issues with the Local Network Access. Which sometimes forces me to use the web interface or Anywhere Access but even when that works, some of the features I need require me to be connected locally..Version: 2.22.0.247

Great in theoryGood for a superficial review of what’s connected to your network, lacks functionality compared to the router web interface and has become increasingly glitchy, randomly logs you out, can’t see devices on the network won’t process firmware updates etc. Combined with netgear now requiring an online account to access local features and some advertised features locked behind a subscription paywall. Not the most enjoyable experience.Version: 2.21.1.353

Doesn’t WorkThe app never actually asks for Local Network permissions, so it’s impossible to use it. iPhone 12 iOS 15.5.Version: 2.18.1.3

Big improvement over previous appThis version is so much better than the previous one (with the magic lamp icon). Access to the router is super fast, access to most features is quick and easy. Two things I would like to see to make this the perfect app: 1) Landscape mode, please. Most people using an iPad with the Magic Keyboard use landscape mode 95% of the time. Especially frustrating when you have to type and use the iPad in portrait mode with the on-screen keyboard. 2) More advanced features. Have an advanced tab/section where the rest of the configurable items is accessible, like you have in the browser interface (but with more advanced settings as well). Parental controls are great and easy to set up. Really wish Netgear didn’t charge $100/year for them, though. You would think buying a $500 router would get you this feature included for free….Version: 2.17.0.171

Poor experienceThe orbi app is frustrating. When it works, it is OK - you can check if you are online, set up a guest network and run a speed test and check for firmware updates. But really that’s about it. You can also see a visual layout of your network but only if you have 3 satellites or less since the map seems incapable of consistently expanding to show more. The app (and orbis) use a traffic light system to tell you how well connected they are but that provides limited insight into how your network is performing. You will need a better and more sophisticated app to check coverage in your home and calculate the best placement for your hub and satellites. Note that you cannot individually switch off the 5ghz and 2ghz bands which is annoying. Most frustratingly though, the app keeps logging me out and it takes ages for it to log back in. We’ve had to invest heavily in satellites to get full coverage across the house because the orbis struggle to push Wi-Fi through anything more than one wall. More recently (late 2022 onwards), the hub has started saying it is offline much more frequently despite the modem clearly being connected. I have changed Ethernet cables but to no avail. So, after just a few years of ownership the hardware seems to be failing more frequently. When I replace, it won’t be for another Orbi system..Version: 2.24.0.44

Requires premium subscriptions for features others include for freeI’ve Had this 1 day. It cost a LOT of money. It’s a good system once all set up, and the app works well enough. However I’m very disappointed to find that the Orbi has zero useful parental control or security features unless you subscribe to 2 independent ‘premium’ services for these. The services look like they would be very functional, but you only get trial/basic access included with the Orbi purchase. My old router, provided for free from my ISP has access time and filtering capabilities built in, as do most these days. To shell out this much cash and have to then pay more ($7.50/mth for the parental controls) is absurd. Give us a way to configure this on the router without subscribing..Version: 2.4.12.5

Log in issuesThe Dam App keeps forgetting my login information so I have to constantly reset my password which takes so much time. It’s strange as hell because when I reset my password I just use the same dam password information. Extremely annoying..Version: 2.31.0.195

Disappointment….We were owner of the previous WiFi router that integrated with Circle 1.0. Everything was great with Circle 1.0 as it was the ONLY parental control software that works. Since kids transitioned to more virtual learning, our WiFi has been very spotty form time to time. So when we discovered the new WiFi 6 system from Costco, we jumped onto it for the upgrade. After installing the new WiFi router system, the wireless speed was amazing. The new parental control, however, was nothing but disappointment. Since Netgear decided to integrate circle’s functionality into the orbi app, it became a different (pricier) subscription, which is ok to us. However, the interface is so hard to use now. Everything u used to do in circle with one click, now u have to do it with 2 or 3 more clicks. On top of that, even though I blocked a profile’s internet or blocked categories, my kids were still able to do everything on the internet. I am now deciding whether to cancel the parental control service and go back to crappy WiFi, or looking for a different parental control solution again…..Version: 2.17.0.171

Frustrating appLooks like some decent features on the app, but let down by constantly asking to sign up to subscriptions. I cannot remove Armor and keeps asking to signup for Parent profile. Called Support and they won’t help unless you pay a support subscription, looks like Netgear are forcing you to pay for everything. My internet connection keeps dropping a few times a day, which I think is to do with the Armor feature, so might be looking for an alternative mesh system now.Version: 2.12.5.56

Forced data collection and subscription trial now?The Orbi app is a utility for managing the router. Product owners and app users shouldn’t be forced to agree to extended data collection and have a trial subscription to the Armor service forced on them just so they can check on their network and make changes. I hope I’m misunderstanding something here but an opt-out should be provided..Version: 2.17.0.171

Doesn’t show connected devicesUpdate: Orbi icon randomly disappears on Home Screen. I have to restart the app. Every update it asks me to login and setup two factor authentication, but alway errors and freezes the app, so I have to restart it. Still doesn’t show all devices connected to the network and sometimes loses the device icon and mixes up the type of connection. Very buggy app. —- Update: I emailed support as requested weeks ago and I never got a reply. Still shows no devices connected. As already mentioned support is bad. ————> I’ve got 30 plus devices on my network and nothing shows up under device manager or the network map. This has been an issue for sometime but got worse after the latest update. They do show up in the web interface. Netgear is there a solution? Thx.Version: 2.15.0.211

Gimmick parental controlsI got the Orbi for its partnership with Disney circle. But unfortunately it’s been a pretty poor experience. Disney circle 1st is buggy and doesn’t seem to understand the new platforms. If Netgear is going to partner with someone make sure you do it with someone who is commit to the product and it’s continued to be maintained..Version: 2.6.2.9

Disappointed more and moreWell, after reading a lot about various network meshes I decided into get the orbi system with a total of three satellites. Reading the reviews I thought great. However it’s been a year now.. I just tried to log in, the app is unstable and pretty rudimentary. The system when it works is pretty good, however it is equally unstable.. at least once or twice a day it fails, and then sometimes comes back and sometimes doesn’t.. if it doesn’t it needs a cold reboot to get working again.. worst of all that happens every time we go away, disabling our security systems cameras, and baby cams... total crap.. for the price.. I wouldn’t pay £10 for it now... pretty soon I’ll replace it never to buy a bet gear product again.. reading about the problem.. apparently it’s some firmware problem, rather then fixing and going back, they keep Patching it ineffectively.. I would get any other Tri-band.. waste of money..Version: 2.4.12.5

Cutting outIt’s great when it’s working, but if it cuts out it takes me nearly a day to get back on again.Version: 2.12.5.56

The most dumb app and device I ever usedI just buy this router (my old one start having issues and I had to replace it). Luckily I got it from Costco and I am going to return it in a week or so! Every router these days has a basic parental control by default and you don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars, this one has none as long as you don't pay another 100-120 dollars per year! This is going back to Costco and I only use it until or I fix the old one or I get a better one. A… and if you want security you need another subscription! You practically have to pay the cost of two decent routers per year on top of the original cost! Stay away!.Version: 2.21.1.353

Orbi is good - app is terrible and never connectsIncredibly frustrating that the app can almost never “connect” to the orbi despite being on the same network. Really inconsistent.Version: 2.23.0.67

Took a lot of hard workTook a lot of hard work and recourse to the Netgear help service to get it set up and connected to the internet but now it’s up and working the signal is strong and the range is good. Seems to be more stable than my old airport extreme. What the Netgear setup app didn’t tell me was that there is a setup wizard if you log in to orbi on line . My blood pressure would have been spared if I’d known about that from the start. For an expensive top of the range device you might have thought they’d have got that right by now! Perhaps they’ll read this feedback!.Version: 2.5.1.2

Great Home Mesh WiFi SystemI bought the Netgear Orbi Ultra-Performance router 11 months ago. Initially when I bought it I expected to have good internet coverage throughout my home. So far, the orbi has exceeded my expectations in that regard. Not only do I have good coverage in my home, but also just about everywhere else on the property. The interior walls of my home are constructed of 4 inch concrete blocks and the exterior walls are constructed of 8 inch concrete blocks with rebar. All devices on the wireless network experience the same network speed everywhere on the property. There doesn’t appear to be any dead spots. This is especially useful for my wireless Reolink home security cameras which I have located on different corners of my home. I can also see all of the devices connected to my network through netgear’s mobile app and I can allow or deny access to any of these devices. Disney’s circle app which can be used with this device is a good free app for enabling different levels of restrictions for devices on the network. Every now and again I would have to restart the router because of a problem with my internet signal at home. Aside from this minor inconvenience this is a great product and I’m happy with my purchase..Version: 2.4.23.1

Customer service terribleModern technology and the people on the 1800 have no idea how it works Wow.Version: 2.24.0.44

Worse than no app at allThis app seems to serve no purpose other than adding a layer of unresponsiveness in front of the Orbi router. It takes an otherwise reasonable setup process that takes a few minutes and turns it into an hour long affair that must be repeated constantly. Some issues I’ve noted: 1) the app makes you log in every time you open it, regardless of if you ask it to remember you. 2) every time I open the app, it tells me I need to configure my Orbi, which is already configured. In order for it to stop displaying this message, I have to log in to the router from the browser. 3) there are no actually helpful tips in the app when configuring. If your setup process goes wrong, it drops you to a static page that tells you to make sure your location services are on (which it should just detect), or gives you the option to try again. It is the app equivalent of screaming at a brick wall. 4) It is almost comically slow. Connecting to a new Orbi device from the browser takes seconds, but every loading screen on the app tells you to wait three to five minutes as it lumps along on what I assume is the worst codebase on any app in the App Store. I have never written an app review before, but my experience with this garbage has been so frustrating I decided to break that rule. Do yourself a favor, don’t buy this product, don’t download this app, get literally any other mesh router..Version: 2.14.0.300

Really flakey and unreliableI’ve had my Orbi routers now for about 2 years and when they are working properly they are fabulous. However, they are incredibly unreliable where often I have to reboot them because devices such as the Sky Q box keep losing connection. Once they are rebooted then everything works fine again for anything from a couple of days to a month so there is no consistence in when the issues arise either. These are expensive devices so you should be able to expect much better performance from them. Netgear really need to get their act together..Version: 2.12.0.22

Changes need to be madeIf you could create groups of devices to turn off all at once, rather than turning off each individual device, that would make a massive difference to having that control in the first place. It takes a very long time to turn off each device individually as it doesn’t always turn off the first time. Having a choice to set time that it is turned off, or would also be a great feature, which our last modem had that this one does not. Other than that the app is easy to use and the modem works pretty well..Version: 2.26.0.61

Hope you don't EVER need tech support. We paid for the bitdefender security that‘s offered by netgear. Worked fine for the first year, renewed before our service ended but the renewal status has not been updated to our network in 3 months and counting. We‘ve called tech support, we‘ve done tech support chats and emails, no one seems to want to help, they do whatever they can to get you to end the call or chat and tell you someone will call back or follow up. But no one ever does. Several days go by and you have to repeat the process again and again to no avail. My last chat, I was prompted to call. I called the number I was told to call, who then told me I had me call the makers of bitdefender, so I called them. Who basically said you need to call netgear, they sold you the product, not us. In another chat, the representative said they would get the issue resolved and call me in a few hours. No one ever called! This started in July. It‘s now October 27th, netgear has been unable to activate the paid security protection on my account. But they have mastered the art of the “runaround“ and continue to “pass the buck“ to another agent. This continues with every attempt to chat, call, or email their customer service..Version: 2.30.2.14

Cannot Cope with a Wired BackhaulWe have an Orbi system with three satellites and the app has worked fine, however we recently put a wired backhaul in place, something the Orbi firmware copes with when it detects the wired connection, however then this app goes into a sulk. Firstly if you are on the wired satellite it claims you are not connected to an Orbi system, but if you’re on one of the other satellites or the base Orbi it comes up with the wired satellite as not being connected. Again the firmware in the Orbi’s themselves works fine..Version: 2.7.6.3

“Router Not Found”“Router Not Found” was all I got when trying to connect the iOS app. I could connect via PC, spent hours setting it up with all my devices, then went right back to factory reset to try and get the iOS app working. Still “Router Not Found” “Router Not Found” “Router Not Found” every time. After hours of experimenting, the culprit was Adblocker as it runs its own VPN. Turned off Adblocker, iOS app connected fine. Shouldn’t Netgear have known about this? I had tried two other mesh routers before this (TP-link and HUAWEI) and neither had iOS app connection issues with Adblocker’s vpn running. Now that I’ve finally got the Orbi system working properly (no thanks to Netgear) I’m happy with it so far. By the way Netgear, unless you enable the temporary separation and disabling of the 5 ghz network, it’s very hard to set up many CCTV cameras and other WiFi devices like baby monitors, which refuse to connect unless they can ONLY see 2.4. Some users have resorted to using telnet to access the Orbi at command line level to disable 5GHz. That kind of hacking shouldn’t be necessary..Version: 2.2.5.28

Maybe the router, maybe the appI have an Orbi system with 2 satellites. When it works, it’s fantastic. However, when it doesn’t it’s a complete nightmare. I went months without being able to login to the app, despite having the appropriate passwords. In a final effort, I tried to recover password only to have it ask me security questions I never answered. I know I didn’t answer them because the first one was “what is the name of your oldest sister”. I don’t have any sisters, so I KNOW I didn’t answer that question. NETGEAR will not help you if you are out of warranty unless you want to pay a ludicrous price for “support”. I already paid over $400 for this router, stuff your support. Finally after having the unit unplugged for DAYS during an outage I was able to reset from new and have access to the app. Last night I rebooted because speeds were slow. Now it only recognizes one of the satellites and every time I open the app it goes offline. I will never buy another NETGEAR product again, hand to God. And I’m probably going to have to replace this even though I’ve barely had it 2 years, and did I mention $400? Buyer beware..Version: 2.5.4.0

Good… when it works. SighSuper fast when it works but Soooo many issues with the Parental controls and laggy and unstable connection. App connection gets locked and can’t reconnect to the network. Satellites drop connection and won’t reconnect without been fully rebooted. The paid VPN upgrade features allow you to select which country IP you want but not on your mobile and you can’t do that at the router for other devices or the whole network. The main Netgear account login is super slow and clunky. For top of the range kit it has been a disappointing experience so far..Version: 2.13.1.4

OrbiSupposed to offer faster speed and better connectivity. We find it slower than our previous modem and consistently dropping out even with a satellite right next to the computer. Frustrating!!!!.Version: 2.4.8.18

Unhappy now (update: fixed)The Orbi system itself is good, the app was a bit limited in functionality compared to the web interface, but still handy to have. Now? I have no idea. For some reason the app is refusing to allow me in unless I grant it access to my location and I’m not willing to do that because the stated reason is dubious at best. It says that it’s optional, but clicking on “Continue” only takes you to settings to either allow location or - even worse - enable location services if they’re disabled. I’m actually as annoyed at Apple as I am at Netgear for letting this pass the review process. Update: I’ve just noticed that the Privacy Policy for this app links to a web page that doesn’t exist. Netgeat are definitely not getting my location or any more of my money at this rate. Update 23rd October 2019: The latest update removes the requirement to grant location access simply to use the app, so I have changed my rating to reflect this..Version: 2.4.10.9

Truly awfulRequires yet another account to use, with a data policy that's probably illegal in several jurisdictions. I can't wait to see my email address in a data leak from you clowns soon. The setup process is quite broken, and has huge artificial wait times built in to account for the device taking 5 minutes to boot. I'm taking this expensive rubbish straight back to the shop. The devices are fine, but this app is embarrassingly bad for the price of these routers..Version: 2.10.0.16

App Was Ok …Had the Orbi mesh system for years. RBR50. A few days ago the guest wifi stopped working, you could connect but no internet - when I attempted to turn it off / on, it refused to accept any password, broadcasting my guest wifi with no password. Often times would not even let me turn it off. Had to use the web gui to get it working again. Apparently this app as of its last release is now full of bugs. I also started getting random notifications from the Orbi app linking me to the guest wifi page in the app. Never received a single one prior to this. Breaking security is a huge deal, there is no excuse for this..Version: 2.28.0.107

NETGEAR account required to use app?I have been using the app happily for over 6 months, but with the latest update now I am forced to set up an account with Netgear in order to use the app. Why? Netgear says “Once your NETGEAR account is created, you’ll activate your warranty, be able to monitor and manage your network from anywhere, enable voice controls, and more. You will also be able to receive any security updates for your product.” I don’t want to do any of those things, but I’m still being forced to register in order to use the app. This is very poor. Netgear please update the app so we can continue using it without registering..Version: 2.3.0.31

Useless appYou get minimum functions and the app can’t detect it is connecting to orbi router if the router is configured as an access point. Netgear should give the option to type in IP address directly or even provide a list of orbi devices on the network but that would be useful so they decided not to. Once out of guarantee period you get no support even if your expensive router goes wrong after a firmware update. It is much more useful to connect to the router via a browser to get access to all settings, apart from Armor..Version: 2.7.0.28

This app needs to learn from EeroThe log in screen fails regularly which makes harder to access system even with Face ID turned on. The app has a confusion navigation. Things can be challenging to be found. Please learn from Eero’s app interface..Version: 2.23.0.67

Great app but drains battery life!Setup my new Orbi WiFi system and all went very well, migrated my old Apple Time Machine / Airport WiFi configs (manually of course) using he web interface of my new Orbi system with no issues... all devices just connected back to the network as before... very pleased! Only issue I have is with the performance of the Orbi App... it absolutely destroys battery life in my iPhone 6s.. (maybe I need a new iPhone) but I wouldn’t have thought that an app could strip battery life from 100% to 75% in just 5 mins of app usage? What’s going on here? Update the app to fix bugs please 👍🏻.Version: 2.1.2.16

App log in issueSince the upgrade of the App about two weeks ago, the app constantly logs me out and requires me to log in with the admin log in details every time I open the app. Once logged in, the app also says it can't connect to the routers. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, but still the same issue..Version: 2.12.5.56

Could be great minus the spamSo having an app for the router is great, it makes control easy and no need to faff around with low tech interfaces and IP’s. Where it massively falls down for me is the constant bombardment of upwelling other services. Whenever I open the app I’m prompted to enable my “trial” for “parental controls” which don’t come as standard and has no way to opt out, the options are “start trial” or “remind me later” so if you aren’t interested you’ve no option! Alternatively there’s the bitdefender security which again starts with a free trial and isn’t included as standard. Ultimately it’s a lot of money for a router than effectively provides the same functionality as any other router but with slightly more up to date tech..Version: 2.11.6.0

Issues with Armor security notifications!!So in the last month or two I keep seeing in the app low security scores in Armor because it says I haven’t turned on security notifications! I haven’t changed anything and it’s driving me mad. Next day I’ll open the app and it says my score is high and it says I turned security notifications on…but I haven’t done a thing one way or the other. I emailed support and nada. Driving me crazy..Version: 2.23.0.67

Provide more optionsGenerally I like my Orbi mesh system but the connections to my satellite are arbitrary. I would love to be able to link my living room TV that is 20 ft away with no walls rather than have the TV linking to the router that is downstairs on the opposite side of the house..Version: 2.17.0.171
