UniFi Protect for Negative User Reviews

Software in constant beta, buggyI have persisted with Unifi gear for years. I have both wifi and video gear installed for myself and for my clients. This app, and Unifi software in general, is just bad. Bugs I deal with every day in this app: ▪️Live camera view screen goes black, have to "pull" the time line down to get display back ▪️Video feed freezes without warning, have to pull the timeline or restart the app to resume ▪️App randomly shuts down or restarts ▪️Does not stay logged in to console (cloud or local connection) ▪️Does not remember user name or password for console (cloud or local) All I want is to have a continuous view of my cameras on the iPad on my desk, and on my phone, to be able to open the app and quickly see what is happening or has just happened on any of my cameras, without hassle. Cheap DVRs and NVRs with 10 year old software allow this. Unifi Protect does not..Version: 1.5.5

Gets worse with every update!I never write reviews, but I’m hoping the devs see this. Every update to this app brings more problems, the most recent being that now the video is hidden under the notch! Which I suppose doesn’t really matter since the video lags every time you’re trying to view it anyway. Please just restore it back to 6 months ago where it at least kind of worked! And would it really be that difficult to add a dark mode? PLEASE FOCUS ON QC BEFORE ROLLING OUT UPDATES!.Version: 1.5.7

Ok - wish it supported HomeKitApp is ok and I think better then it used to be. Quicker to connect however wish it supported HomeKit secure video, 3rd parties have managed to get this working so it shouldn’t be that hard. Would allow me to have convenient off site backups which is hard with protect currently..Version: 1.6.4

Great - but no compatibility with Google homeGreat product, but would be massively improved with - compatibility with google home - various ring theme options for the kids. Please don’t underestimate how important that is for them!!.Version: 1.20.0

Who PMed this???Who is that genius who decided to that app should go through a cloud first instead of local discovery? Lags every 30 seconds. Management is to blame..Version: 1.19.0

Doesn’t work properlyIt deconnects all the time.Version: 1.10.2

Another victim of agile and the cloudThe app changes often… well, because. Our customers wouldn’t think we were delivering value if we didn’t constantly move things around to prove we’re working hard, right? Sure, we could just pick a feature set, test diligently, deliver the app, and fix bugs occasionally until it just works… but seriously, like one gray-bearded customer would appreciate that. Everyone else knows, if the updates don’t break your workflow or introduce 10x as many bugs as they fix, your app isn’t modern. Who wants an app with a feature set so fixed, and that is so well tested, that it could have been shipped on physical media?.Version: 1.14.0

FlakyLast firmware stop the house physical chime from working.Version: 1.21.0

Latest update forces audio onImagine sitting in the office and checking your home cameras - the audio comes through immediately. Previous versions it was off by default. Make an option for the user instead of us scrambling to turn to silent..Version: 1.5.7

Doesn’t work on iOS 15 on iPhone 13 Pro MaxThis app seemingly worked on iOS 15 prior to me upgrading my phone, but now I am on an iPhone 13 Pro Max, the app has completely stopped working. Loads up, can see the controller which is showing green and online, but when trying to access it, I just get a loading screen of grey boxes and no access to any of my cameras. Has made the app completely useless. Looks like it needs a fix for this as soon as possible..Version: 1.5.5

Entirely cloud DependantThe app is “ok” the issue is it is entirely cloud dependant, so when there’s an outage on the vendors AWS side, you can’t use it - even on the local network. All those expensive little cameras rendered inaccessible. Multiple support/request threads on adding local network direct access, same poor responses every time. Ubiquity’s response - use a web browser instead. Sorry but listen to your customers - make your app work properly. You did it with the UniFi controller app, so everyone knows there is no excuse. If I could give zero I would, really disappointing given the cost of equipment..Version: 1.5.8

Great app but often slow to connectTakes a long time to connect to NVR even on local LAN, which when trying to answer the doorbell often results in the person walking away (I have missed packages because of this). When remote I often need to terminate the app and re open it to get it to connect. Once it’s connected it’s great.Version: 1.7.3

Smooth operation, but with one critical missing featureCustomisable alert sounds would make the mobile notifications infinitely more useful, especially for doorbell rings..Version: 1.5.4

Complete Failure - Cloud key gen 2 plus, G4 Pro.I have found UniFi to be difficult to purchase, install, connect and to keep running. Software updates are not automatically installed nor am I notified of them. Customer service is almost non-existent. Feels like help, if it comes at all is begrudgingly provided and the attitude I’ve experienced makes me believe they think there must be something wrong with me if I bought their product. I would not recommend this product and would not buy it again. At this time, the system still does not work..Version: 1.11.0

Needs Face ID or passcode lockThe fact that this doesn’t have Face ID or passcode lock is very concerning. This shows the inside of people homes and business’s with no security. They lock down the UniFi app, but not this for some odd reason.Version: 1.14.0

SlowI find using the app on your iPhone quite slow and clunky.Version: 1.10.2

So close to awesome…but a huge bugOverall the design and usability of the app is great. My only problem (which really kills most of the utility of the app!) is that it refuses to play the video when I jog on the timeline. I can scroll the timeline or use the 15-second jump buttons to get to individual frames. But it almost always just stays on that frame and refuses to play the video. Tapping pause/play has no effect. 2016 iPad Pro. I also had trouble with initial setup of my G4 doorbell, during Bluetooth connection. Support never replied. Eventually after switching several times between my iPad and my Pixel phone, the iPad managed to connect..Version: 1.11.0

Crashes consistently in latest versionIf you scroll through Motion history, it will reliably crash. Latest version is unusable..Version: 1.5.7

Crash IssueMy app crashes every time I try and scroll through the list of smart detections, always at what seems to be the same point. I love the cctv from UniFi, but this makes the smart features almost pointless when reviewing old footage. General review of Ubiquiti: Products amazing, support and aftercare non existent in my experience..Version: 1.5.7

Needs option to snooze notifications.Would have been 5 stars if there was an option to snooze notifications..Version: 1.19.0

Geofencing is uselessI’ve been using Protect for close on 3 years now and still they have not managed to fix notifications. I get movement notifications when at home , when I have set the controller to only notify when I am away. In my opinion this is a critical feature !.Version: 1.5.8

Review nags when responding to alerts-5.Version: 1.8.0

Clunky trashLiterally riddled with bugs and crashes. Two way audio doesn’t work with the doorbell. Zero support provided via Unifi. Terrible products never should have purchased their “technology”..Version: 1.5.9

FrustratingThe only gripe I have with this app is when the doorbell is pressed or motion is detected its slow to connect and at times the microphone/live butyon doesn't appear to give me the option to talk to the person at the door. The only camera I own is the G4 yet I’m often left unable to respond to the bell when it’s pressed..Version: 1.10.2

Brilliant iPhone and Apple TV AppThis is the first time I’ve used Ubiquiti equipment after seeing many reviews online for their cameras. I’ve invested in 3 Flex cameras and the Cloud Key+. Everything worked first time with no issues, the app on my iPhone, iPad and even the Apple TV loads very quickly. It’s easy to navigate and scrolling through recording are responsible, you can even review recording on the Apple TV App. Issues I’ve seen in other reviews like, connection speed and the ability to zoom have been resolved. My only criticism which is more about the camera is the quality of the picture in night mode with IR isn’t great. After using several other well know cloud based camera systems this is by far the best..Version: 1.3.3

Slow, glitchy, laggyI’m using this with the g4 doorbell, with unifi 6 aps, and dream machine pro. The video consistently glitches, freezes, and becomes very laggy. I’ve configure this to run an rtsp stream. Using other apps to receive this stream has consistent high quality and low lag. Why is this app then so bad!.Version: 1.6.7

SuggestionWhile the app works as intended, I’d like gesture controls in some areas to make it feel intuitive. For example, in “Detections” while playing the videos there is currently no way to gesture to play next or previous video. How about add that so it works like the “Photos” app, which is natural way to handle any media on a smart device. Same could be done for the “Cameras” to jump between different devices. The current icon to go back and selecting another camera seems outdated..Version: 1.18.1

Can’t do full screen live viewCan’t do full screen on iPad in live view.Version: 1.14.0

Trash products rubbish appThis might be good if it and the cameras actually worked. The app is very buggy and will often not connect even when on my own network. I’ve also had multiple devices die (including the expensive doorbell), all within a year of buying them. The network switches seem to fine at the moment (thankfully) but the cameras are best avoided..Version: 1.9.0

Door bellWhen someone rings the door bell it takes forever for the image to appear on your personal device. By the time image appears it’s too late and delivery person has already left with a note on the door..Version: 1.9.0

Timeline can’t be hidden! Can’t hide the timeline when on Landscape view on iPad and very hard to see that area of the camera. Seems like an easy fix but looks like it’s been an issue for 3+ years!.Version: 1.10.0

Terrible motion event recordingI feel a pressing need to tell how bad this product is in a professional environment where it is critical to record events. After all this is what this product is designed to do but fails constantly. Even worse, I can’t believe this company is putting this product out in a professional security environment where it fails miserably. Do not buy this product; it will let you down at critical moments. It should also be noted that the support given is appalling and I suggest everyone look elsewhere for security needs. This is not sour grapes but real-time experiences with UniFi. Run a mile from this lemon..Version: 1.4.7

Not impressedNot worth the money. Don’t buy. Doesn’t allow me to view when I’m away from home..Version: 1.10.0

Unify Camera securityWould be nice if you could connect other cameras to it Or if they offered a good licence plate reader that would report unknown plates And have a library of known plates that is easily updated.Version: 1.19.0

Getting worse and worseWith every update you do the app gets worse and worse. I cannot tell you of a single improvement you have done over the last year that has been worth the buggy rubbish we are stuck with now. Please sort this out before I bail off your platform..Version: 1.5.9

Should be so much betterClunky, slow, buggy, limited function comparing with full web version. No possibility to visualise the full range of 365 camera…. This is a low class application to a so so service with Protect..Version: 1.10.2

App crashesApp crashes every time I open it. Have to force quit and open (twice) each time in order to get it to work..Version: 1.6.0

Nice app but needs Picture in Picture supportIt’s overall a nice app but often slow to connect, even on a local connection making responding to the doorbell tedious. Also, would be really nice to support iOS Picture in Picture to be able to keep an eye on a camera while doing something else on the device.Version: 1.14.0

Poor connectivityConnectivity to cloud key gen2 + is very slow or not all (more than not). Bizarrely this seems to impact the iphone app much more than ipad which connects much faster. This needs immediate attention from the developer as it is a major issue for the use of this app. Also the option to connect directly (on lan) rather than use their cloud connection is a must add option. Could be great but sadly missing the mark yet again for Unifi’s video products. Avoid for now..Version: 1.2.9

Major flaw in appAlthough the app can connect directly to the NVR on the same network and the NVR allows local accounts, you cannot add your NVR manually by IP and for some insane reason it requires your NVR to have access to the web and the client log in via cloud just so you can click the button for your NVR. I wish Ubiquity would stop trying to cloud integrate everything and stop treating their consumers like idiots. This should have been simple, yet it took 2 days to work around this issue..Version: 1.13.0

Good app but as always needs more polishThis app is good don’t get me wrong but there are little things like viewing the G4 PoE doorbell and viewing the parcel camera which should either illuminate automatically or give you a toggle to turn the lights on. Neither option currently. Don’t get me started on LCD customisation and chime customisation. Basic functionality that should be available in the portal and the app: Ubiquiti are too slow at software updates. Promises everything and delivers a decade later..Version: 1.21.0

PoorThe app is so poor now it’s untrue!! Freezes, requires resetting, unable to scroll through video unless looking at motion events. Slow connection even though on the same WiFi network. Just overall from what was always a really positive experience it is now really poor!!.Version: 1.5.8

DoorbellSerious lack of function in being able to change the doorbell tone. Using this as a stand alone option without an installed chime is impossible.Version: 1.5.5

Last updateNever had issue with viewing cameras until last update. No one can seem to give me a basic answer clearly update caused issues. Will probably have to purchase new camera system with another brand if issue is not fixed soon..Version: 1.7.1

New update feels a step backwardsI’ve always been super impressed with the usability of this software& system. But since the new update which doesn’t allow for things like swapping cameras in playback mode it feels harder and more blocky to use. ALWAYS crashes on boot up and if using a newer phone the image is half covered up at the top of the phone!! Bring back the old version..Version: 1.5.8

So close to being goodJust to start this off, I love my Ubiquiti equipment. The network app is nerd central. The real “problem” with the Protect app is really just the small quality of life things: - You can’t set a unique notification sound for motion alerts. I can’t audibly differentiate between a Facebook message and somebody being in my driveway at night. Is this really asking too much? - Protect does not have a snooze feature like Ring does. I can’t mow or wash my car without 30 notifications letting me know that I’m in my own yard. - You can’t set custom schedules from this app, you have to do it from a PC Browser logged into your console. It’s 2022. These things should not be “features”, rather part of the basic operation of the application. Why is my $2200 worth of UniFi Protect gear not backed by a solid management application?.Version: 1.15.1

Great on iPhone, but no iPad support!A really slick app on the iPhone, but very disappointing that there is no iPad equivalent (and the web interface doesn’t seem to work on Safari or Chrome on iOS). An iPad app to the same standard as the iPhone would be fantastic..Version: 1.2.3

Seeking doesn’t workFirst impressions were good and I originally gave this app a good review. However after using for a year or so now this app drives me mad. Seeking just does not work properly, I’m using it with the protect NVR and a supported hard drive, but going back in time when seeking often then refuses to play (so freezes on the point you stopped at), or just doesn’t seek reliably.Version: 1.6.1

Can't even get startedForces you to use an auto-discovery process which doesn't seem to work with anything much beyond a basic everything plugged into the same switch approach, and then gives no option to break out of the auto-discovery and type in an IP. I may have to go back to unifi video on a server at this rate, Protect is missing too many features..Version: 1.3.6

⚠️ Doorbell 4 pro answering not working 👎🏼When someone rings the doorbell and I answered, the picture is blurry and frozen. I have to exit this mode and go to view the doorbell camera and press the mic to answer to the person at the door. Only then it works 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️.Version: 1.16.0

Use to be goodUse to be good. Performance seems to be getting worse with each update. Sadly this has been increasingly consistent with ubiquiti products. Time to look elsewhere..Version: 1.6.0

G4 Doorbell problemThis app is getting there but an absolute essential is to be able to know when someone rings the doorbell and distinguish it from a movement alert or any other standard alert on my phone..Version: 1.5.0

Not Reliable when outside of the local networkApp works flawlessly when connected to the same network as the server. The web version works anywhere when using a web browser. But when trying to use the app on LTE or outside of the local network it never connects. Please fix ASAP!!.Version: 1.2.9

Fine enoughOften find it difficult to find settings. Have a camera that also likes to drop off the network frequently and the app or the cloud key gateway don’t recognise that it’s still plugged in, and so can’t re-add it..Version: 1.9.0

Unable to use it via VPNStill unable to view the cameras when connected to the Unifi console via VPN..Version: 1.9.0

Always one issue or anotherThere isn’t much more to say…😶.Version: 1.5.4

No video scrubbingJust got my UNVR setup with the first G4 Pro I’m deploying, and am pretty disappointed that when I go back to review recorded detections that I cannot jump ahead/behind in the timeline and have the app catch up and play back the video from that point. If I let the entire detection clip play, the video will run through as expected, but as soon as you try to jump to a different point it will just sit there. This is basic video review functionality and should be functional. Really disappointed..Version: 1.14.0

Great app. Overpriced cameras. It’s a great app. But the cameras are too expensive for what they are. No colour night vision. Poor night vision with noise. Expensive for what they are, 4K for so much? Always out of stock. No Australian store or service. Apart from that. It’s a good app. I’d buy more cameras if they weren’t so expensive..Version: 1.10.0

Still no local accessDespite multiple requests from the community over the years to add local login, that feature has never been added. Even despite the recent breach revelations there seems to be no motivation from the UI side to add this in for those of us who don’t want to use/ rely on the UI SSO functionality to access our cameras..Version: 1.4.9

Are these reviewers real, bots, employees?Betting on the later, definitely employee ratings. Again and again and again, years of zero progress on this app. Add feature, take it away, add feature back, break feature, just constant crap. Wiping away all the one star reviews? This app is broken half the time and only gets worse after every update. Broken promises of upcoming “features” that should be basic functionality. Who the heck is even running this company? I will never buy another Ubiquiti product again. I have already ditched their access points and switches of which I had several thousand dollars worth. This camera ecosystem is next. So glad to have switched over to Aruba for networking gear..Version: 1.10.2

Needs local loginThe app is ok but the cloud is very unreliable. Often when connected to wifi outside of networks I control the cloud will not connect to my server. If I try the port forwarded web page it works no problem. If I disable wifi and use LTE it usually works. Bottom line we need the option to manually enter a server address!.Version: 1.2.7

Connection issues every timeLocal udm pro connection is often unable to connect at all, other times intermittent and laggy to the point of being useless. Expensive kit and useless software is how ubiquity roll Edit: 6 months later same issues.Version: 1.18.1

Camera views often freeze, slow to connectThe camera views are often slow or get frozen when opening the app from a notification of camera detections. The web interface is much more reliable. Also much easier and better control over video capture and download on web than through the app.Version: 1.8.0

Great when it worksA nice user friendly app when it works. However, it can be a little slow to load up and to load up the individual cameras. A more serious issue is that the timelapse stops being available on this app. This seems to happen when there is a power loss with the cloud key, the issue is a known bug with the iOS app (the time lapse works fine on a PC or Mac interface), but there is still no fix..Version: 1.5.4

Unreliable and unable to access unless on same networkOnly supports remote access if you use their cloud service (Unreliable and has a history of being compromised). Also you’re unable to access the NVR unless you are on the same VLAN. Complete joke for something advertised as being a professional solution..Version: 1.6.0

Remote access SSO not stableEvery once and a wile it is impossible to connect to our equipments remotely, locally it is all working and it is never Ubiquiti fault but after a day sometimes two and emailing support it works like a charm again until it is not connecting again. Realy annoying.Version: 1.5.8

App restarts or just crashesTrying to use the app remotely over a mobile network is just rubbish. Keeps restarting after OK then Slow connection then just drops and off we go again. If I'm lucky it doesn't crash..Version: 1.2.7

No iPad version?I know this is a new software but seriously? How is it not developed to half match the old UniFi Video with even some basic interface features. I can live with the basic nature because it’s been rewritten but iPad use is a must..Version: 1.1.1

Won’t load camerasNetwork is stable, all firmware and app updates and very buggy the cameras won’t load.Version: 1.12.0

Developer feedback:Nice app team. Please consider adding the ability to hide/show timeline on the iPad version of this app. It is seemingly impossible to full screen a single camera view without some type of overlay or obstruction over the video feed. Also, please add a dark mode option to iPad. The white background is killing my eyes and battery life at night..Version: 1.3.8

Needs improvementHoping in the future for further latency reductions and a better experience on the iPhone app. Zooming in can be somewhat awkward especially with the notches on the iPhone. The Apple TV app needs MUCH improvement. I would like the Apple TV app to have the same camera layout as the full screen website viewer would have, but it does not - there is just a ton of wasted screen space making it quite useless as a solution for viewing all the cameras at the same time on a TV. Probably because UI wants us to buy their expensive TV adapter thing 😐🙄.Version: 1.13.0

No local supportWhen UBNT cloud services are down I can’t access my cameras directly through a WAN IP. Only if I’m connected to the same network. Useless. They tie everything to their cloud- destroying the whole point of going with their gear in the first place..Version: 1.5.5

Some Hanging, No HomeKitI recently switched from garbage consumer networking equipment to a Dream Machine SE. I also got a UniFi doorbell, as Ring and other manufacturers are horrendous between support, privacy, and hidden costs. This app has worked well for my family, but it does hang up sometimes. There are a few other reviews noting hang-ups, and those systems may be using several cameras. For my setup of one camera, I'm satisfied. Unfortunately these devices lack HomeKit support, which will keep me from rating 5 stars. Enterprise is definitely the target market, but doorbells are on most houses. There's a market opportunity for better network gear in residential settings, and bundled closed-circuit home camera systems, with HomeKit, are an excellent sales pitch..Version: 1.10.2

Default to mutedI’m always reluctant to view anything in this app because it plays the audio by default and the mute button is hidden away so takes a few seconds to activate. Makes it impossible to view videos without everyone nearby hearing it. Older versions were muted by default or remembered your last settings..Version: 1.6.0

Nice app but no chime on doorbellSmooth app and easy to set up. However, there is no chime or notification on your phone like other apps. This seems like a major feature missing?.Version: 1.8.0

Cloud onlyConnecting directly to the web interface of Protect on a UDM Pro does not work on iOS devices, the page doesn’t load ( I think it just doesn’t like iOS safari. It works fine from Linux/Firefox). The app will only connect to protect through the cloud, there is no option to just enter the IP of the UDM-Pro and view video that way. Internet down or cloud service down means I can’t connect to the service on my own network. Very poor..Version: 1.5.0

Add console button doesn’t workAdd console button doesn’t do anything.Version: 1.11.0

Absolutely Pathetic IPhone AppYou can NOT add the cloud key pro to this app IF the cloud key pro console is in a different network but still accessible via a default route. The iPhone has to be in the same network as all the cameras and cloud key pro console. NO way of adding an IP address of the cloud key to the iPhone App to manage the device and view the camera footage..Version: 1.5.0

App has multiple issuesI have constant issues with the app working in the home network the system is connected to. When connecting through cell service, works much faster. Also, if you don’t have notifications turned on, you have to delete the app from your phone and reload it for it to work. I have notified the company and the IT rep locally who tell me it works fine from their computer. Sorry, but I’m not at my computer every time I need to look at the video I paid for, that’s why I hoped to use the app, which doesn’t work. Don’t try and ask for help, they will not provide it..Version: 1.21.0

Mic always stays on at 2% unless disabled permanentlyMic always stay on at 2% unless you permanently disable the mic. You can away here the audio on all camera when when even one camera mic on. Wasted my money on $2500 system set up. Totally unreliable company in every perspective no customer service at all. No way to call them only by email. Out of a six cameras, one camera died in 15 months. All products are out of stock for many many months. they are going down on a fast track..Version: 1.7.3

Good stuff exceptEvery so often one of my g4 instant cameras stops working and the only option is to remove the camera and readd it as per Unifi. When I do this is where the troubles start. I can add the camera via Bluetooth says “close” it scans via Bluetooth then goes to Wi-Fi. It never shows a Wi-Fi network to choose. Just closes that Wi-Fi select screen and remains in a tap to adopt status. This has happened before and then one day it worked again. Not so this time so far..Version: 1.16.1

Latest version crashesLove the redesign but when you’re scrolling through smart detections the app crashes?.Version: 1.5.7

Update broke notificationsSince the most recent update, notifications don’t work. Tried going into settings, hit with a page that they “improved” notifications (does turning them off without notice count as improving?) Tried to turn specific camera notifications back on, it’s greyed out. Can’t toggle the switch. Multiple camera types, UNVR. 2021-Dec 15.Version: 1.5.8

Very poor appUsed to be better, The top of it used to say recent smart detection‘s, now they changed it and it just says recent detection and shows all motion including when the wind blows. Completely useless now. Then if you click the motion tab and scroll down it just shoots you right back to the top of the page unless you scroll extremely slow. Piece of junk..Version: 1.6.4

Really bad lag time for videosMy system used to work really good before the last update and I used to be able to see events in real time and was able to catch people at my door etc while the motion was detected and recording the event with only a 2-3 second delay. With this new update there is a like a 10 second delay with viewing the clips because it has to load and most times the event doesn’t show up the first time you click on it so you have to close the clip and click it again. By the time that you get to view the event it’s too late to take live action because 40-50 seconds have passed and you are pushing a minute and people are already leaving or gone by then. I live in an area that is not the best so the real time notifications helped me navigate and turn on lights quickly or whatever I needed to deter people from my home. The live feed is also very slow and delayed, it lags really bad and even though I am watching it it doesn’t show everything live. Cars and people are frozen most time when you watch the feed, it’s like you see them, freezes and then they are gone when it updates the feed. Also, one of my cameras has a hard time catching events at night that it used to, even after trying to ‘fix’ the settings. I really liked my cameras until this update, please fix these lag issues, I prefer the previous versions better..Version: 1.12.0

Cannot manage notifications easilyInstead of making it easier to disable detection alerts, they’ve made it harder. It used to be that you could toggle alerts completely and detection alerts would be disabled. This is helpful when you’re doing work around your cameras and don’t want to be ping INCESSANTLY. But now, you have to disable detection alerts ONE BY ONE. Do you have vehicle and person detections enabled? Get ready to disable both for every camera. Ridiculous. There needs to be a very simple way, ideally without having to open the app, to disable detection alerts temporarily. Toggle them off while you don’t want to be bothered, and the toggle them on right back to the previous configuration when you’re done..Version: 1.21.0

Not adequate for doorbell productsWhile I’m a huge fan of Ubiquiti products I find the app features for the doorbell severely lacking. First off, there should be a persistent ringing on my phone when it’s pushed and a button right on the notification on my phone that allows me to answer and talk to whoever is at the door. They built the hardware (and it’s excellent) but they released it without the necessary upgrades to the software to make it truly usable as a video doorbell. They have a text screen with a preset for DND but it doesn’t silence the doorbell. They need scripted actions available that do things like mute the chimes & alerts when in DND and they need to make these more accessible right from the main screen instead of buried in camera settings. It’s a great start but needs many improvements on the software side. The rest of the camera features are excellent and if I was just looking for security cameras alone this is a great platform. I will say this, some of the other players in the video doorbell market have been doing this a lot longer and still don’t have many things right. Ubiquiti has an opportunity here to bring their name into business the way Apple has done, through the personal use of influencers. I think there’s a lot to do here and they’d be wise to do it sooner rather than later..Version: 1.12.0

Viewing videos dos not work wellSlowww on viewing videos ! When it work !.Version: 1.11.0

G4 Instant picture qualityUVC-G4 Instant picture quality/framerate is horrendous on the main view (vertically listed previews), but looks great in multi view, dedicated camera view and recordings..Version: 1.18.0

Not badI would appreciate PIP and the ability to unmute by pressing the volume up button. Thanks..Version: 1.14.0

Still doesn’t workBeen well over a year. Still can’t fine scroll through timeline without it locking up. If you get a notification for motion detection, open the app and see the thumbnail and it was 30 seconds ago, you tap the thumbnail and it just pinwheels..Version: 1.6.4

Absolutely garbage for AI360 and PRZ camerasUbiquiti is know for good quality hardware for a reasonable price. They are also known for having fairly horrible firmware, software, and UX testing. This app lives up to that expectation. This app has no idea how to show AI360 cameras. It only shows the raw feed, not the warped image resulting in only a small fraction of the video showing it right side up. I gave Ubiquiti a year before writing this review, but now that the AI360 has been out for over a year (at least in EA) they don’t have an excuse. Nest and ring camera apps are superior in almost every way. This app needs a lot of work..Version: 1.6.3

Can’t connect to products.Using and iPhone or iPad will not allow you to connect to a dream machine pro or to a protect NVR..Version: 1.4.6

Ring betterKeeps going black and white and cutting off.Version: 1.21.0

Several new issuesSince updating to the latest versions (Protect service, Protect iPad app, iPadOS) there are issues: 1. Unable to set auto-focus on G4 Pro cameras - sure there’s a slider to enable that, but going back in, the slider is off. There’s no save button - should there be? This also an issue via the web interface, so it is unlikely to be an iPadOS issue. 2. Unable to save a privacy zone, after drawing it out. It reverts to a rectangular block in the middle of the screen. This could be a Protect app issue. 3. Audio from the last connected camera often plays while in the thumbnail view. 4. Audio playback issues mean that cameras often need restarted..Version: 1.8.0

Requires cloud account for remote accessWhile I appreciate that you can authenticate and view recording over WiFi, it is a deal breaker for me that you cannot do this over a VPN. If you try to you get an error and are prompted to authenticate via the cloud service, when when you can reach the console. Ubiquiti, please allow users to forgo the cloud access and allow them to log in via VPN like you do for the UniFi Network app. The privacy aspect of Protect is a big draw and being able to store footage locally is great! But if I have to enable a cloud service to access it, it makes me very wary. I can’t be the only potential customer who is waiting for this to be implemented to furnish my home with cameras..Version: 1.9.0

Intuitive designRefreshing to see constant development to provide a nice way to explore footage that differentiates from the typical competitors. I love the time lapse capability of the footage the most. The previous vendor I used....which was S.....didn’t spend anytime updating their software at all and wouldn’t provide stable base functionality. In contrast to that, this software is beautiful to use. I do often have issues with logging in or I the app crashes if switching from LAN viewing to online based monitoring or vice versa. Apart from that I would also enjoy some refinement in the exporting function. All in all...keep doing what your doing! If you had rapid login, then I would give 5 stars..Version: 1.4.5

Internet connection requiredFor those who live in areas with little or unreliable internet, this app is useless. I can’t see my own cameras on my own network when the internet is down. Got a farm or land in the mountains and want to see if the horses are good in their stalls or if the bear is gone? Too bad. The app won’t let you directly connect to hardware you own on your own property. It sounds insane, but it’s clear the developers either don’t care or don’t relate to what the digital decide is like, as such a basic feature seems beyond their interest. I really regret this camera system..Version: 1.9.0

BuggyWhen it works it’s great, but the audio handling means you can’t do anything else on your device (like listening to music) because the Protect app just takes over constantly..Version: 1.7.3

App never works since updatingSince I’ve updated the app I’m unable to access my account or video feed from this app, still get notifications however can’t see what’s happening! Real handy!.Version: 1.2.9

Crashes all the time - slow to connect locally and remotelyCrashes all the time - slow to connect locally and remotely.Version: 1.7.3

App is great. Cameras far too expensiveI love the camera app.. being able to easily see all of my sites. It works well & lots of customisation. 2 important gripes. 1. The cameras are 3 to 5 times more expensive than other cameras on the market. 2. The outdoor cameras infra red is very poor … low range. You have to buy the most expensive outdoor cameras to get a reasonable IR range. Next my outdoor cameras day time colour reproduction all deteriorated to the point that the colour was beige ( greens faded out ). Now I have to replace them and the only good option is the very expensive higher models if I want t my IR to be half good at night. Other brands do IR very well at the fraction of the cost. Yes I know I can use IR boosters instead of buying the most expensive ones, but that will cost to buy them and also to have them installed. The camera IR should just be better like other much chapter brands. I would assume they are made in China… so if that is the case, why are they so expensive..Version: 1.21.0

Need better Infrared supportThe Infrared will NEVER engage if there is a light in the picture (even if the light is pointed to the ground). Camera trips indicating motion but unable to see what is out there due to not being in Infrared mode at night. My only fix at the moment is to turn on Infrared at night and turn it back off in the morning manually. If can’t be fixed then I suggest adding the ability for me to put Infrared on a timer so I don’t have to do it manually..Version: 1.13.0

Geofence doesn’t work wellI like the app, but the geofence just doesn’t work well. I’ll be away and my wife is at home and I’ll be constantly getting camera alert notifications. Everything is set correctly to only alert when no one is on site, and the site is set correctly for our adddeess. I’ll have to have her open the app and then it stops. Kind of useless if it can’t just work all the time. Her location is set to always on the app, so it’s definitely an issue with the app not updating correctly when in the background..Version: 1.14.0

Cloud lock inNo direct connection available.Version: 1.4.9

Doorbell notifications not receivedRecently doorbell notifications in the app have stopped all together. Have tried every combination of disabling and re-enabling notifications to no joy. For a doorbell this is a fairly fundamental feature. I’ve already missed some important deliveries because of it..Version: 1.13.0

No notificationsI have turned on notifications both in app settings on allowed them on ios settings but still not receiving notifications when the cameras detect movement or people. Any idea why this may be?.Version: 1.19.0

Loses connectionsKeeps drying connection.Version: 1.20.0

UpdatesConstantly updating console.Version: 1.19.0

DecentThe app works well, Just wish the notification for doorbell ring was much, much larger and the microphone sensitivity when in use, the bar no longer moves in app 1.15 and protect 2.7.33.Version: 1.15.0

Needs direct connectThe camera software is great. Provided you get a connection. For some odd reason unifi network is allowed to direct connect which would flawlessly. However protect is forced to use cloud connection which would around 1 in every 50 attempts here. I give up most of the time now..Version: 1.2.6

App fills up iPad storageAfter running the app on a dedicated wall iPad for live view purposes the iPad shows as storage full. The protect app fills up the entire iPad and only deleting and re adding the app clears all this storage. Can’t use it for live view. Too bad..Version: 1.6.4

Still bugsNever had any issues with this app until the last update. App freezes when choosing a particular cameras from the list to view. Deleted and reinstalled a number of times but still no improvement. Urgent fix is needed for my cameras to be played back..Version: 1.6.0

Still brokenI hoped this update would fix it, but it’s still broken for me. The timeline doesn’t load every time, the evens on the timeline do not load . The video image goes dark when scrolling despite the recording settings saving the video the whole time. Hopefully they will get it right next time..Version: 1.7.3

Works WellThe app works quite well. It would be great to include an option in the app to pause notifications for a period of time..Version: 1.13.0

Works perfectly for myBoyfriendTakes up to 5 minutes to load on my phone. My boyfriend has done all the updates, re boots, wifi changes... and connection is still slow,.Version: 1.3.2

Buggy AppGreat cameras but mobile app is buggy. App either crashes or won’t launch when you click onto doorbell notifications Motion and detection zones reset after being created. App gets updated to “fix” these issues constantly but never actually resolves them. Forums often point you towards the desktop interface to resolve these issues..Version: 1.9.0

App loose connectionOn the cam even do im on the same network and a big 3 sec delays and only 1080p on 4 k g4 pro camera … changed the option and best is 1080.Version: 1.8.0
