✓ AwfulWhat a huge disappointment this app is after having played with the Advent Calendar for a month. Nothing about this app is fun. You have to play 50 boring games, of which you only have 3 choices, to get enough points to do one thing that takes all of 15 seconds. Then you start all over again. At this rate, It’ll take a year to decorate one room. Less than one star if I could! ✓ I am really confused and not happyI wanted the summer garden but learned i first needed the country house so i got it and worked my thru it. ✓ Great graphics but needs work to stay engagedI do love the premise of the game…to start with. However, the game needs to be developed further to keep player engaged. You can only play three mini games to earn points to continue in the game. There has to be something more to keep the player engaged in playing…it gets repetitive fast. Are the graphics great? ✓ Where’d my points go?!!!I had 53,000 points saved in the main Country Cottage game, planning to spend them all at once to “fix the place up”. Yesterday, I downloaded the new add-on pack for the garden; shortly after it was installed and I opened it, all of my previous/saved points disappeared and I was back at square one!! Needless to say, THAT IS NOT OKAY! Put my points back, please. Addendum: I went back to the app later tonight and my points were back. Don’t know what happened but problem solved..Version: 2.0.0
✓ Fun for mindless gamesI like playing mindless card games to wind down so it’s perfect for me. However, it is SUPER frustrating to finish the garden card game that takes a long time, only to have an error that I need to log in again appear instead of the game score/coins earned. Fortunately, my four year old daughter found the debug menu when she was decorating my house and managed to acquire about 3 million coins, so the loss doesn’t bother me too much. But I still think it’s a flaw in the game design. Also it would be nice if it didn’t seem to require a constant Wi-Fi connection. It would be a perfect airplane game otherwise. Finally, I wish it were possible to turn off the cat roomba in the kitchen. It’s amusing the first few times but is tedious after a few weeks.Version: 3.0.4

✓ Wonderful Graphics, but I have a few suggestionsI love the graphics! But unless I’m missing something there are only three games to play and though the graphics in them are lovely they aren’t so exciting that I want to play them over and over...and I have to do that in order to win enough points to do anything to the house or garden. I get around 25 points even if I win a game and every chore I want to buy costs 150 points or more. ✓ Expansion pack problems!Like so many others here I have purchased the garden and kitchen expansion packs and after accessing them once I then lose access and am asked to buy them again, despite having already paid! Jacquie Lawson customer service just keep telling me to contact the app provider…I received a refund for the garden (and then miraculously also had my access restored as well!) and have just submitted a refund request for the kitchen. ✓ Not up to usual JL standardsLovely graphics—what I could see on the main screen—but very poor functionality. My device meets all the tech criteria for successful installation, but the app won’t proceed past the first screen. I tried to uninstall/reinstall, as well as made multiple attempts to complete the first task (my “funds” were extracted each time), but I couldn’t advance in the game. Sometimes I inexplicably got an “unable to connect to server message;” other times, nothing. Contacting customer service was totally useless. Very glad I didn’t pay for this..Version: 1.1.0
✓ Work in ProgressAs usual, the Jacquie Lawson folks have exceeded themselves with the graphics. I agree with the other reviewers that playing the three games over and over to get points is tiresome. However, it’s a nice way to entertain yourself when you’re on a long phone call. The point requirements for some of the items are a bit high. After I met all the point goals and reached the level where you could redecorate the place by picking items from a catalogue, I stopped. I liked the cottage as is. After all, I put a lot of work in getting it in shape. ;) It would be nice to put fresh flowers on the tables or add books to the bookcases, but that’s not an option. It would also be great for the stationery activity if you could send your note to one of your contacts in your Jacquie Lawson contact list, but you’re not permitted to that. Seems strange. I was hoping to find several of the wonderful Jacquie Lawson easter eggs, but they only recycled the ones of the cats mewing and the dog lifting its head. For example, I’d love to see the sheep stop roaming and do something when you click on them. I figure this cottage adventure is a work in progress. It’s worth the download..Version: 1.2.0

I really hope the designers continue to update and add games and activities. I bought both expansion packs which are improving. Now that the JL English Garden is discontinued, I have a suggestion—I’ve been using that every day for years just for the bird memory matching game (Pelmanism) which I love. I hope they add a memory game to the Country Cottage somewhere. Even the same one would do. The daily word scramble is good albeit repetitive. In the end, what shall I do with my 100,000+ points? Some people will like the kitchen Sudoku, but it’s not for everyone..Version: 3.0.4
✓ Kitchen is a bit of a letdownI really enjoyed the first two portions of this game (the cottage and the garden). I had fun renovating and decorating them, and I love the word tile and solitaire game in the garden. However, the kitchen has been a bit of a letdown. I opened it today and saw that my videos were already done. They only lasted for 10 days and now there’s nothing left to do in the app except play sudoku (which I prefer to do by hand) or match 3 (which I don’t want to do). Kind of bummed. ✓ DisappointingI have enjoyed the Jacque Lawson e-cards I have received from others over the last few years. Then I got the advent calendar as a gift this year and really loved it. So I thought I’d give the country cottage a try. The free version was ok but I thought it was just so limited because it was free, so I bought the kitchen and garden additions. Nope. They are just as limited and quite frankly, pretty boring. The graphics are lovely, as you would expect, but there is nothing really to do - except a few repetitive games or choosing between a few choices of decorations. You can’t move between the rooms or garden without getting out of each section of the game on the website. The games also can be glitchy and freeze while you are playing. ✓ Low scoring gamesThere are only 3 boring games to play that earn barely any points. There needs to be more variety of games that earn many more points. There is no way I am going to stick with this game if I can’t even earn enough to make one improvement per day. I would have to play for hours every day to fix up one location. No way. ✓ Huge fan of JL, but this is a boring grindMy wife and I are huge fans of Jacque Lawson, but this misses the mark. I don’t mind the idea of playing a game to earn points to clean up the cottage, but the payoff is bad. Two main problems. First off, the developer seems to think their fans have all the time in the world to play this. It takes way too long to earn the points to clean up one small thing. The point earnings need to be drastically improved. I don’t get JL apps in order to grind away, I get them because I enjoy the music and graphics and playing the games a couple of times. Second problem is that the creative side is missing here. In other JL products, the Advent Calendar and the Garden, the philosophy and goal is that we get to be creative and decorate our own way. In this cottage, on the other hand, we grind to earn points so we can press a white dot to clean something up. This app seems to be made in a completely different philosophy than other JL products and I am not a fan of the change..Version: 2.1.1

✓ Sweet game but limitedYes this is a free taster game designed to make you want to buy the expansion packs but .... the controls are a bit clunky, the rewards from playing games are minuscule compared to the costs of the house improvements you need to ‘buy’, and with only 3 games to play you can soon get bored. The card games cannot compete with the many ‘free’ games available (free but with ads to watch). Also you can only earn so many points per day - fine but when does a day end. ✓ Fix the musicThe music still doesn’t work: this is going to have to be sorted before this year’s advent calendar. And no, it isn’t my iPad. The sound works fine in all other apps. The game itself? Well, it’s pretty, and a nice idea, but poorly thought through. The effort-to-reward ratio is badly skewed, there is less animation than I was expecting (much less than in the garden game issued a few years back), and the limited range of games available (one is completely pointless) will ensure most of us lose interest before progressing to any of the extensions. ✓ Big fanAs everyone says, Jacquie Lawson and her team create beautiful cards, calendars etc. BUT they are not gamers. Looks as though the games came from a Microsoft package designed in the '90's. Very disappointing plus the algorithms are designed to make sure one fails a lot! The Country Cottage is particularly frustrating. I am good at solitaire but I can't beat the algorithm. The cottage and the garden are delightful, BUT a very limited amount of catalogue choices. What if one wanted to cover the couch and chair in the same style? No luck! The garden is beautiful though I do recognize several 'looks' from the cards. Again, more plant choices please. Right now I have close to 5000 points a nothing to spend them on. So disappointed. ✓ Very limited choicesI was gifted with the advent calendar, which was great, so thought I’d try this. It’s not worth it, even for free. You have to do all the mandatory improvements before you can customize anything, and when you finally get there the choices are very minimal, and don’t have the flexibility of the advent calendar. You can pick the style of a piece of furniture, but can’t change the color. This results very few choices that actually look good together, especially given the limited number of rugs to choose from. And the couch sitting off center, off the edge of the area rug, annoys me. The illustrations are beautiful, but earning 26 points from playing a game, and needing 300+ to buy an improvement that doesn’t measure up, just isn’t worth the time..Version: 3.0.4
✓ Wheres my $4.99?I spent $4.99 for the Country Garden thinking it would be an improvement over the disappointing games of the house. The puzzles don’t work beyond 12 oints. I agree with a lot of the other comments the points earned did not seem to balance well with the “cost” of improvements and is even worse once you get to the point of redecorating. I enjoy the 10-up solitaire game, but tend play the the crystals game when trying to earn points... it seems to be a better return on my time. I absolutely LOVE the word scrabble game in the new garden add-on, although I do have to keep a crossword app open. Even if you know the word there may be more than one option… and only one will work to make all the words. All my cottage progress has been lost and the whole thing is a total mess. Apparently Jacquie Lawson has over 100 pages of help on their website covering the most common questions. Wow! If you have that many help pages surely you have realised you have serious technical problems. Might be worth sacking your IT team and starting again before you have no customer base left. Personally I am giving Jacquie Lawson 48 hours to sort out their product accessibility and then I will be requesting a refund from Apple. It might be nice if they used their database systems and sent an email to everyone who has bought the cottage and the expansion packs explaining what they are doing about this matter! You very very soon run out of points to renvate the cottage and playing games issues small points so it looks like months of leisure eaten up . The solitaire is appalling.The cards are hard to read at any speed and tapping them doesnt always get them in place .There is no choice of move most of the time so undoing moves makes little difference .. The gems game is boring after a few goes and the points creep up slowly . Basically there are few rewards for playing . What were you thinking ? ✓ Cute but has lots of technical difficultiesI really wanted to love this, as I’ve enjoyed their Advent Calendar for years. They have a cute idea, but the app is pretty basic with only 3 games that earn a very small amount of points. It takes many, many points to “Fix up” the place and there aren’t many other clever rewards to inspire us (Seeing cobwebs swept just doesn’t do it). The worst part of the app is that it experiences technical difficulties VERY FREQUENTLY such that is doesn’t record the few points you might have earned. It needs major work. ✓ Summer garden uselessWas unaware that in order to work it needed to be purchased through JL so purchased by clicking on the offer on the entrance to cottage - purchased from JL. Only worked once. It is also not integrated with the original which I would have expected. As I have been a member of the card site for many years I was deeply disappointed by this product. It’s functionality would have been disappointing for a much less expensive app or even a free one in my opinion. ✓ DullI enjoy the Jacquie Lawson Advent calendars but this Country Cottage is a very poor show. Its functions are limited for hours, even days at a time by ‘technical issues’, and when it is working it’s hardly worth bothering with. The furnishing and decorating choices are very limited, e.g., a measly three choices of sofa, etc. I paid for the garden and kitchen extensions in the hope of more choices. No such luck. ✓ Every time a new feature, there’s a screw upI just love the Jacqui Lawson games, apps, etc, but it is so frustrating that nearly every time they launch an upgrade or new feature then the licensing is screwed up. The country cottage kitchen is yet another. I’ve bought the expansion, but it will not allow me to launch the kitchen, and keeps saying buy it, but then says you’ve already bought it, but will not activate it. This happened with just about every product launch the last three years - advent calendars, country cottage, garden and now kitchen. ✓ Customer Support is horribleSent 2 weeks playing lame games to get enough coins to almost all the repairs. Opened the game the next day and over half of my repairs were missing. Started earning coins again and also contacted customer support. They had me log out and back in and it reset the game to be back to the tutorial and lost my expansion pack. So now I have lost everything and the tutorial didn’t even pay me coins for doing it again. Luckily I had enough to get the games unlocked. Customer support after a week of back and forth offered to give me a refund. I send them my email account, they can’t find me. I contact them back, tell them I can log in fine with that email for them to say, we see that email address in our system and how to log in. So they can find it when not offering a credit, but it seems to not be in the system when offering one. I really liked the idea of this game and the advent calendar, but customer support has runnier both for me. Not worth the money I paid for it..Version: 2.1.1
✓ I play the game only to find out the app isn’t working.I agree with everyone saying how wonderful the graphics are. I was so excited to start playing this, but have been frustrated along the way. It began with only being able to earn 500 points everyday, and what seems like literally 24 hours has to pass. I also agree with what others are saying about how you have to play the three simple games way too many times to get 500 points. I am really looking forward to decorating the cottage, but it may be weeks before I get there. Not sure I have the patience for that. Now, the app is frequently down and I don’t find this out until after I played a game to get the message that it is not working and the points I have earned are not being registered. The idea of this app is so wonderful. I hope they value what is being said in the reviews and make changes. I realize a lot of work and talent goes into making this app and I would be happy to pay a fair price for it and be able to enjoy it. Update: They have changed it to daily to earn points instead of every 24 hours! Also, it looks like they were working on it quite a lot because I am no longer getting the message that the app is down. Now, if only some other ways to earn points and the allowance of earning more points in a day (unlimited?), I could get to decorating. The ratio is off too; the number of points you earn for playing or winning a game is very low compared to the number of points you need to “buy” a decoration. ✓ Great graphics, limited games and activitiesThe scene is a charming, but rundown cottage. The user can play 3 (boring) games to earn points up to a max of 500 points per day. The 3 games are 2 forms of solitaire and a game were you fit tokens (gems) into a grid. You can earn many more points playing the gem grid game (the more boring game) than the solitaire games. Once the player earns enough points they can be spent on house repairs. But you can only earn enough to do one or two repairs per day. So, not very exciting and not too rewarding, but the graphics are really lovely. Update: the developer asked me to update my review. They say they have eliminated daily caps on points earned (not as of today, though). Also, that they will Be bringing on new games. I have never had a developer do this before. It seems a bit rude. ✓ Please fix the 24 hour clockFirst, thanks for switching up the “Cottage” so that you can accumulate unlimited points. Also, the 100 point bonus was a great idea! What is going wrong for me, and without any pattern I can discern, is the “theoretical” 24 hour clock before the 500 goal point resets. For a while there, it seemed like it was pretty close to working, resetting on or about 1:00pm(ish) CDT everyday; something I could anticipate and count on. However, the reset has been getting increasingly inaccurate. Today, it’s now 12:45pm CDT, and it’s telling me it still won’t reset for 4 hours. ☹️ I really can’t imagine how the programming is set up that results in different reset times every day. This is VERY frustrating. I try to play and earn my points during lunch, but now the reset time is getting closer to supper. Sure hope you can fix this 🙏! Otherwise, it’s a gorgeous app that I’m really enjoying, although adding a few new games for more ways to earn points would also be appreciated. ✓ Still Takes Too Long to Earn PointsJL responded to my previous review saying they were going to change the point system, so I finally tried the revision and it still too tedious to play the same three games over and over! Since so many have mentioned this, why not just reduce the cost of everything? It would be nice to be able to play a few rounds of games then actually do something.
