Running | Down Dog for Negative User Reviews

ConfusingNeeds more clarity when to speed up and skis down. Instructions are inconsistent. Lord of potential though. Sometimes instructions are repetitive..Version: 6.1.4

Has potential…This is great for shorter, interval based runs. I’d love to be able to use it for my long runs in marathon training but there isn’t the option to run for longer than 50 minutes, or just to do a long steady run (for which the vocal encouragement and reminders in form are still helpful).Version: 6.2.1

Not beginner friendlyI’ve going on 2 years of being an avid walker and I’m looking to up level my walks and tried this run/jog. It’s not appreciated to tell beginners they should hit 8ph. I think I’ll stick with Apples workouts where they truly talk about your exertion levels instead of arbitrary maxes. My jog is not at 6mph by any means. I don’t feel included in this app..Version: 6.3.2

Not for beginnersI got this app because I have some of the other apps by Down Dog but I did not enjoy this app as much. I’m an intermittent runner as in I’ll run for a month or so and stop for like 3-4 months. Coming back to running is much easier than the Couch 2 5K app. This app is not beginner friendly in my opinion..Version: 6.1.6

Inconsistent but good conceptI continue to use the app because the concept is great. The narrator’s prep instructions are frequently inconsistent with what you the narrator then asks the runner to do. Will be a more effective app when that is fixed..Version: 6.8.3

BummedI really wanted to love this app, I think their yoga app is topnotch but the running app? Not so much. Tons of tech issues, kept freezing up and crashing. I tried the beginner run despite being a higher end intermediate runner because I wanted a slow easier workout today. That was not in any shape or form a beginner run. 45 second warmup only and then running the rest of the time including being told not to walk during recovery time. A beginner runner will either get hurt starting out this way and or hate running after that workout..Version: 6.1.5

Too advancedI was hoping for something to use after Couch to 5k, but this isn’t it..Version: 6.1.2

Unusable outdoorsI’ve used the Down Dog Yoga app for quite a while and absolutely love it, so I was excited to try out the new running app. Imagine my disappointment upon discovering this app is completely useless for outdoor running because it requires a wifi connection every step of the way. What kind of outdoor running environment includes built-in wifi? Down Dog, if you’re going to offer an “outdoors” option you need to make the workouts available offline. That’s non-negotiable..Version: 6.1.5

Music has to goThe music options on the running ap are AWFUL! Either R&B auto tune crap or hip hop. How about an option for the rest of us other than silence?.Version: 6.2.1

Need Apple Watch versionI usually don’t run with my bulky phone so I was disappointed to discover this app is not compartible with the Apple Watch. It’s not usable..Version: 6.4.0

Fun app, but marred by technical glitchesThe music and coaching make this sound, and feel like a peloton app. Unfortunately, the prompts that the app gives are often out of sequence. This is especially true if you keep the workout to less than 30 minutes. For example, it will tell you that you have to run hard for a full minute and then bring you back to a jog after only 30 seconds. Also, the instructor will say that you are going to move from a hard run to a fast jog, but then the app forgets about the fast jog..Version: 6.8.2

Less than satisfiedI adore the DownDog Yoga apps, so I was truly disappointed when this app didn’t work for my jogging journey. It is super glitchy when not connected to WiFi, making outdoor runs way less productive, and the music selections are frankly terrible. I do not enjoy the embedded poppy/hiphop style musics, so I tried to use my own playlists, and it made it impossible to hear the trainer because there was no adaptation in volume for either the trainer or the music. I have a different app that I pay for for jogging training that I was hoping to get rid of for budget purposes, but because this one didn’t work for me due to the above listed reasons, I have to stick with the other app. I was very disappointed with the lack of usage and the incompatibility with my own music choices. I love the other apps this company offers, and I have a full access subscription, but with the jogging workouts not fully downloading to the phone and running off of data in-the-moment, it just does t work for me. If you treadmill run, it’s a decent option, but I was just underwhelmed with the entire experience of this particular app..Version: 6.4.0

Time setting did not match the workoutI love the Down Dog apps and I have not used the Running app in awhile, but the 40 minute setting was giving workout segments that were not accurate. For example: “we’re going to do 5 minute intervals” but then it would be 1 or 2 minutes. Seems like a glitch in the program settings..Version: 6.8.3

Not for beginnersThe app is not paced for beginner runners. It says it is but it is not. Couch to 5k is a much better app for beginner runners..Version: 6.1.5

The session stopped in the middle twice alreadyNot cool.Version: 6.8.3

Not compatible with watchLove this app…but really bummed it doesn’t work on Apple Watch..Version: 6.2.0

Great idea but needs a few kinks worked outI chose a 50 minute outside run with the intention of building endurance Things I liked: 1) the workout itself 2)the ability to choose the duration of the run and the intensity 3) the dance music adjusted to the intensity of the interval, although next time I’d go with my own mix (an option with this app) Things I didn’t like: 1) instructor feedback seemed more geared towards someone running their first 5 k 2) the instructor suggesting a cadence my legs should be at (seemed much too slow for the pace I was going plus I have short Marvin the Martian legs) 3) too many instructions and repetitive… I would have a hard time using the app multiple times - by 30 minutes in I was getting a bit annoyed🙃 4) if you are in the first 10 min of a 50 minute run, the instructor shouldn’t tell you that you should be tired lol Things I’d like to see added: 1) the app either coordinating with a gps based running app or adding the ability to know your pace and distance home 2) a toggle for more or less instruction Down dog is one of my favourite apps (love the yoga) so I’m sure this app will only continue to improve.Version: 6.1.2

I give Yoga 10/5 stars, Run…. Not so much.I really want to like the run app, because of how much I like the Yoga interface, but it’s not great yet. In no particular order 1) that there’s no “more or less talking” option like in the yoga app and the current coaching level is really disruptive to focusing. 2) no running metrics- distance, speed, route, etc (probably the most important when comparing it to other apps) 3) can’t set your own intervals That said, I DO like the integration with the workout calendar with the other two apps and, even though I feel over coached, I do like the clear interval changes. Thanks :).Version: 6.8.3

No offline option for outdoor runningCannot use for trail running in mountains as there is no offline option..Version: 6.2.1

Beginner level??I am a loyal Down Dog customer. I’ve been using the Yoga app almost every day for about five years, and when the hiit app came out I started using that almost every day as well. So with that, I work out for about an hour every day and I’m in good shape. I’ve never been a runner but I’ve always wanted to be, so when down dog came out with a Running app I was so excited. However, this is definitely not built for people who are not runners. At the end of a run at the beginner level, you should be able to think to yourself “OK that was a bit challenging, but I’m excited to try it again”. However, so far with my experience with this app, that has not been the case. At the beginner level, there are almost no breaks in between intervals and multiple sprints. For someone who has no endurance with running because I’ve never been a runner, this is extremely discouraging and makes me dread trying the app more and more each time. I feel more defeated than encouraged after each run. I would suggest to lower the sprints and increase the breaks between for the beginner level. And again as I stated before, I am already in decent shape and can work out for up to an hour every day, so I can’t even imagine how hard this run would be for someone who doesn’t normally work out and is trying this app out for the first time. On top of my issues with the difficulty level for beginners, this app is also very glitchy. I will be on a recovery jog, then suddenly hear the music pick up and my screen is red indicating that I should be sprinting without any transition or countdown between. The app will also tell me that I have only a minute left in an interval, and then a couple seconds later tell me that we have 90 more seconds left and it’s just very inconsistent. I’m sure that this app is great for people that are actually runners, but if you are new to Running I do not recommend it..Version: 6.3.0
