✓ Almost greatThis game isn't quite realistic, but I seem to be able to win about half the time. My primary peeve is having to click OK all the time when it isn't necessary. For example when you have no move, or when your opponent has no move, why make us click OK so much. Why bit have an option to automate rolling the dice. In short, less clicking please..Version: 1.61
✓ OK but could be betterVery basic and limited functions. No stats, so no history. Even at highest level, not very challenging. Biggest annoyances: no way to resign if losing (going through all the bearing off in such cases is very very very boring) and it will only allow you to double once! ✓ Obviously not random rollsThe simple fact that I have gone through hundreds of opening rolls when playing the computer and there has never been a tie shows that it is not a truly random number generator creating the rolls. You can make a hard mode without presetting the dice rolls or controlling them during the game. It removes all fun from the game..Version: 2.02
✓ FreddieI have a big complaint regarding the dice rolling software they use. I've had 5 consecutive doubles, more than once. 4 consecutive doubles frequently. This just doesn't happen. Sort it out. Also the software will offer the double when it's impossible for it to lose, this is just not done when playing backgammon. And please lose the applause and wah-wah-wah noises. ✓ New interface = no funThis was my favorite game until all of the sudden I saw the update. The dots are bigger, but they are also too close together and throwing off my intuition. One thing I also loved about the old layout was the realistic look. As soon as I notice these things I went to the menu to see if there was an option to switch to the old interface, but there was none. ✓ Latest update has ruined the game.I have played this game for years now and originally gave it four stars. However, the recent upgrade, which was intended to remove some bugs, has actually introduced more and has seriously reduced the enjoyment of the game. The results of the dice are displayed before they have completed their throw and they wobble about the screen. Also, some strange sound effects are emitted at the oddest of times. ✓ Backgammon ProThe app is a lot of fun to play, I play on the “hard” setting and would expect the “hard” setting to increase the computer’s strategy rather than constantly getting GREAT rolls of the dice that seem to perfectly align with what the computer needs to win. If the developers are reading this… you have a good game here, it is just unfair how the dice rolls are so very unrealistic. The settings from easy to hard should endeavour to give a range of strategies rather than completely unrealistic rolls of the dice. Example: I’m winning so what happens next is the computer gets five or six doubles consecutively and takes the game. That is tantamount to cheating! ✓ This app needs workI wish companies charged more for apps that way they would be able to spend more resources building quality apps. While this isn't the worst app I've ever used, it is far from the best. The controls on the game are very difficult to use. For example when you press a checker to move it, it doesn't register your touch half the time and you are forced to tap the screen multiple times - pretty annoying! Hard is rigged.When the computer gets first role 24 times out of 25, or when it gets "miracle rolls" and knocks me off 19 times out of 20, and when it exposes a single token and I don't get the number after 5 tries, then it is clear the developers wrote algorithms for the hard version. The fun lies in waiting for the breaks or changing the pattern so the program screws up. There is no randomized rolls in the hard level-just a program that cheats. Bad design. Lazy developers. ✓ Suspect gameThis does not play well. The computer opponent gets extra doubles on the higher level. The game resets if you go back to menu whilst playing. There is no fast forward button to pair off. The controls are tiny and it’s too easy to make mistakes. It does highlight the move and it will add too. ✓ Cheating with the diceThis app is very very well designed with excellent graphics. It’s definitely the best designed backgammon app you can find in the apple store. However the developer does not allow the dice to roll based on randomness but instead the dice roll always cheat to win the game when it needs to. You can almost guess what the dice roll will be everytime. If the developer changes the dice roll to be random then this app will be by far the best one in the store..Version: 2.02

✓ Lousy but entertainingUpdate on Dec. 19, 2020: They change the look of the app. It is awful. All the older comments stand. Old comments: I use this app in advanced mode and still manage to beat the brown out of it. Once in a while, in order to beat me, poor app comes up with dice combinations that are against reason and statistics. Yes, it is possible one throws 4-5 doubles in a row, but NOT every other game and - mainly! - NOT so precisely what's needed to squeeze a victory. Though sometimes it does silly things like kicking you out while leaving 3-4 singles in its own field, for you to kick out at the next dice roll. Overall a poor game algorithm, unable to react at blocking tactics for example, with a strong optimization for bringing the stones home as soon as possible and helping that with "the right" dice numbers, easily beatable if it's not cheating. Still, entertaining enough and probably one of the decent games of its kind out there. But cheating, which some people may be annoyed with..Version: 2.01
✓ Disappointing yet typicalDevelopers of these kinds of games will always assure you the dice rolls are random. They’re lying. Pure and simple. Either that or they are trusting some other lying company that makes the dice algorithm and assures them it’s all fair. Either way, it’s a lie. You play long enough you’ll suspect it’s cheating but you can’t really prove it. All you have to do to absolutely prove beyond doubt it is play a dozen or so games below your usual skill level. You do this just to prove the point. You will win and win by a comfortable and consistent margin and then after a while somehow the game is rolling 7 doubles in a row to catch up and make it closer. If you keep on going this way it will eventually start beating you. On the easy level. Your skill didn’t go down. The game’s “luck” went up. Cheat. Don’t try to appease me with your lies. ✓ Needs improvementWonderful look and easy to use. This would be the perfect Backgammon game except for the cheating on hard. The computer doesn't play smarter as the difficulty increases, the game just rolls in their favour. On hard the computer will always roll exactly what it needs to knock you off the board while never leaving one of its own exposed. Getting your piece back in play is then next to impossible as you will always roll occupied spaces. The computer also wins 75%+ of the first rolls. It can be so frustrating to be winning a game by a landslide, then watch it lost as the computer rolls doubles 4 times in a row while knocking every piece you have off the board as they go. ✓ Despite its age it still has bugsI’ve been playing this for around 6 years and I play several games a day consistently. If you don’t like your throw press undo and roll again you will get a different throw. That should be fixed. I have screenshots of games on iPhone of being hit in the opponents home board and the AI leaving just one of its counters on every point. Similar hits have happened more than once. There should also be some history of matches played and lost. A nice app but it’s been out long enough to have no bugs at all. This new graphic change also has brought about a peculiar counter judder when counters are coming in off the bar..Version: 2.01
✓ Cleanest backgammon game but flawedThis is by far the cleanest and easiest app to play backgammon on against the AI, and definitely worth the £2 to get rid of the ads. Could do with a few new features such as keeping a count of games won and lost and being able to input your own dice rolls to keep things fair. My biggest bug bear is that the game is relatively easy to beat on medium, yet on hard all it seems to do is give the AI exactly the dice rolls it needs at least 90% of the time. I even started calling the AI rolls before they came out and was right a big percentage of the time. If you could roll your own dice and then input the numbers this would mean the AI was having to rely on strategy rather than dodgy dice. Overall good app but needs work..Version: 2.02

✓ Cheating ruins a great appThis backgammon app is the best that I have found from a look and playability perspective. But the developers have taken the lazy way out... the way that this app makes one player mode harder is by rolling itself whatever dice it needs to get a result. After a while the game just becomes a tedious bore when the computer rolls repeated 2/36 chance combos time after time in order to win. ✓ Good game but needs some upgradesGood game. Here are some suggestions to the app developer. First, the game does not adjust volume via my iPhone volume control. It’s either full on or silent if I use the ringer switch on my phone. Sometimes the game has quirks like just now I had one remaining piece to bear off on the second to last triangle. I rolled a 1 & 3 and it makes you move the 1 first before allowing you to bear off the piece. The losing sound, is annoying. Making you hit OK at the start of each game after the initial roll is annoying. The fact that when selecting a color, you either play correctly oriented or upside down is annoying. The colors don’t change to your orientation. Therefore, white is the only option to play to have the correct single player orientation..Version: 1.61

✓ Stack dice rollFirst ignore the positive reviews at the beginning of reviews. They are clearly submitted by the makers of the game for marketing purposes. Game makers idea of different levels of difficulty is to manipulate the roll of dice. My advice is don't spend any money on the pro game and just download the free version and keep track yourself of the dice rolls made by the game. You will find a ridiculous percentage in favour of the dice rolls as u get to tougher levels. U will find enjoyment taken out of game when playing skills are beaten by constant house rolls taking out ur open checkers. ✓ Good gameI've tried 4 backgammon v. AI games and this is the best so far. Some say that the hard setting wins by rolling doubles. I do find that to be true-when it d videos to win it has rolled the perfect shot or even up to 5 doubles in a row. I get almost as many doubles as it does at some opportune moments. I do wish hard were a bit harder but perhaps I'm a better player than I think. It does beat me sometimes though. Especially if I'm too wild in my moves but that's to be expected. I do enjoy whiling away my time on it. It doesn’t seem to understand the doubling cube, and will accept a double that it should not. Good game, worth the price..Version: 1.61

The colors are different and there’s no option to return to the original board. The colors are too glaring and literally HURT my aging eyes. I know the creators DON’T CARE about the effect changing the game board has on Senior citizens because the same thing happened a month ago to my Spades game, and despite NUMEROUS negative reviews by people, it has not been returned to normal. ✓ How to deal with cheatingGreat app; cheats horribly. Here’s how I deal with it: don’t just undo to change your move, undo your actual dice roll itself. This sometimes beats the cheat. If it doesn’t, I will undo until I can thwart the cheat… either by blocking its move, or by taking it out completely if I can! Sometimes involves multiple undos, but I feel vindicated for beating the cheat! Would be a five star game without the cheats, but I can only give it three stars. Buyer beware..Version: 2.03

That’s when the game starts getting back to back doubles (or, sometimes gives them to me.) This is a highly unlikely element in a real game. Honestly, it makes me angry that I can be 40 pips ahead and then the game gives itself double 6s, then double 4s, then double 5s and beat me by a lot. It’s also not a satisfying win the other way around, either. I’d like to win according to the strategy of how I have placed my pieces throughout the game, not on waiting for the luck of the roll of the dice. I’m looking for a different game, now..Version: 1.61

✓ A LOT buggyAlthough this version isn't as buggy as previous versions I have still had to delete & reinstall several times after it hangs. In addition to complete crashes it will sometimes lose its sound and I have to turn the device off and restart in order to reinstate the sounds. Every so often it will also make insanely stupid moves, almost deliberately leaving itself open. The AI is very predictable and does not learn from its mistakes and/or my style. The recent changes you made to the graphics aren’t doing you any favors. You lost the nice textured wood grain and now everything looks flat. This said, otherwise the game is true to rules and the most enjoyable of all the backgammon apps available..Version: 2.01
