✓ Enjoy this versionI started out with the free version of this game but found the ads were just too much after a while. And there were far too many algorithms that favoured the computer (I play offline). This paid version is much better but the algorithms can still be annoying but I use that to my advantage to make me sharper..Version: 4.6.6
✓ Awesome.Excellent, intuitive backgammon app with some interesting variations (Old English, Nackgammon, and Acey-Deucey). There are just a couple things I’ve noticed: you will never tie with the computer on the opening roll, indicating that the dice are not truly random, at least in that instance. True random rolls would have you occasionally tie and have to re-roll. Also, another time late in a game, I had a computer chip on the bar with my 1, 4, 5, and 6 points closed in my home board, with a blot on my 3 point. The computer had all the rest of his checkers stacked on his own 1 and 2 points. The computer then rolled 3-2, but instead of using the 3 to hit my blot, it re-entered on the 2-point, leaving my blot there untouched, and then wasting the 3 it rolled due to there being no more legal moves. I thought the rule was that you have to use the larger number if both dice can’t be used. Further, I was playing on Hard mode, so that would be a colossal mistake, even if the rules allowed it. Lastly, unfortunately I’ve had some difficulty playing multiplayer over Game Center, but I don’t think my issues are the app’s fault. Still, it would be nice to have a non-Game Center live multiplayer option. Still, it’s a good app, and well worth the price. Treat yourself to an ad-free experience, and learn Acey-Deucey like our Navy Sailors and Marines are known to play..Version: 4.5.8

✓ PIP Score Graphic Truncated Over Game BoardGeez guys. I’ve reported this twice before and I never heard back from anyone. I even sent pictures. I can’t play the game that I paid for because the graphic for the pip count is not where it should be and it is covering the gameplay area. I can’t see if there are pips on the board in those areas or not. It’s the graphics for both players pip counts. I’ve got the newest iPad Pro with all updates. Everything on my end is up to snuff. ✓ Not strategicI have played for 30 years in clubs, online with Middle East players (games origin) and in tournaments. I have played every online app I can find and this is the best...but I have never lost a MATCH (10 to 15 games) while using the doubling cube to an online app. No app I have played can apply strategy in order to win a 10-15 game match. Worse than that, the app uses the doubling cube poorly. I am not sure a backgammon app designed around algorithms can ever match the human mind when variables like risk, timing and an opponents strategy are considered. I wish all the people complaining about the dice would take the time to learn the odds of rolling two dice (36 possible outcomes). Also, play a match, not a game and learn to use the doubling cube. It is said the dice are 75% of the game and the player is 25%. The player should learn the game well enough so their 25% is better than an apps or another player!.Version: 4.5.7

I was a bit concerned about the other reviews that complained about computer cheating but I haven't seen anything that I could statistically prove as cheating. There have been many games on the Hard level where the computer has been unable to get a piece back on the board for a satisfying number of attempts. Dice rolls are very realistic, in my opinion. If you enjoy backgammon, I think you'll love it. There is a bug when playing on an iPad Pro 12.9” 4th gen: when you first install the game, it plays normally. But when you start a new game, the areas that look like brass plates showing the number of Pips change location and actually cover parts of the playing area, hiding some of the pieces. ✓ Great so far :)I like that this app is straightforward, without lots of gimmicks or unnecessary and distracting graphics—and without constantly pushing engagement in social MEdia interaction—like many apps based on traditional board games (e.g., a popular one, of which I’m not a fan, loosely based on Scrabble). I don’t have to navigate a barrage of annoying prompts and invites to get to “play.” I can just enjoy a game relatively free of hype, playing against an AI opponent that doesn’t have (or need) a cartoon avatar with a clever name implying backstory and attitude. It effectively mimics a real game with real odds and isn’t trying to do more (OR assuming it must) to compete for attention, as if all users were kids with trouble focusing. I’m old school; I prefer real social interaction (like in person or via voice-only phone calls) to online vid-/app-based interaction. For so many of us, life and creative spirit aren’t meta. ✓ Better Than MostI've read the reports by the designer. I respectfully disagree with their comments. I've been playing this game for a very long time. Though I have a problem with the game, it is far better than the others (several). The game has far too many doubles. It has a lot of double doubles and triple doubles. I've kept track of the quantities. They are excessively more than the player will get. I've even roles dice to see if there is any comparison. There isn't. However, that isn't the end. The game is uncanny at rolling the right number when needed. It seems to have cycles of no "cheering" and "cheering." I only play the advanced version. ✓ Seems FairMost online backgammon games are stupid. Either they are ridiculously 'easy', or roll way too many perfect roles. This one seems random. I have played backgammon for years, love the game but my early attempts to find a truly random dice role was frustrating. I began at the hard level and quickly became suspicious as the computer was rolling ALOT of spot on rolls, I stayed with it and it evened out. Won the first match 9-4. ✓ Great game but...For some reason when playing the regular game via multiplayer peer-to-peer there is a fault that causes one player to roll multiple doubles and the opposing player to only roll doubles once, maybe twice, during a game. It becomes laughable but frustrating for both players. Otherwise it is an excellent game. Fun because you don't have to set the game board up every time when playing manually. ✓ Great but...This is by far my most favourite backgammon app. It looks good, plays to proper old English rules and the dice throws are truly random. However nothing is perfect. The machines decision making in casting off is appalling so will always give you an advantage. It is also frustrating that either when a game is mathematically lost you cannot resign, or when the bases are fully loaded the machine or occasionally yourself still have to keep going through the motions of throwing the dice rather than just passing until a space becomes free. I am a good player and will beat the app 10 to 3 in games but will win 95 out of a 100 matches even in the hardest setting which is pleasing but I would like the app to be either tougher or cleverer. Other apps will simply cheat with the dice throws against you, this doesn't but it just needs to be a bit cleverer!.Version: 4.5.7

Extraordinary frequency of double sixes with a checker on the bar. 2. Locking up. Happening more frequently now. Could be people not keeping up with updates. I've been playing for years and the severity seems to ebb and flow. 3. Doubling cube means nothing! As prominent a component of the game, it should count point wise (Game Center, on-line tally). 4. Players being able to quit or forfeit a game with no penalty with opponent's likely backgammon or gammon. Gammons and Backgammons are counted as extra 'wins' on Game Center, doubling cube has no impact. 5. Text would be better than the talk feature. Voice can be awkward. There is not a tight correlation between the rolls that occur and the real world odds created by physical dice. For example, the computer often gets 5 or 6 doubles in a row. ✓ Decent Game (Played at the Hardest setting)Most backgammon games will make up for not having a strong engine by cheating with the dice randomizer. This game doesn’t seem to cheat much at all, even at the higher levels. It has decent play and good fundamentals, but makes occasional strange moves. For instance, if I’m bearing off and the computer has one or more men on my home squares, the engine favors getting his other men around the board to the his home squares over getting the back men out to prevent a backgammon. Another weakness is his bearing off play. If one man is outside the home squares and the dice throw will a allow that man to get home, it will move a piece in the home squares first thus preventing a man to bear off. On the flip side some of the end games are surprisingly well played by the computer. All and all, I would recommend this decent game for those wanting an enjoyable experience. A little fine tuning, would make this game much stronger as most of the basics are already there. If championship play that requires the memorization of positional odds is your forte, then you should pass on this one..Version: 4.6.5

The version I paid for initially displayed the pip counter over the board, partially obscuring the game! I had to delete and reinstall to fix this. ✓ It's goodTo add to my review below: a nice feature would be if the A.I. would forfeit when it's 100% improbable for it to win. It's my favorite backgammon game. But looses a star for notifications. If you keep notifications on to know when your online opponents have made their moves, you also get notifications about all other aspects of the game. I'm not interested in notification about anything else. They are superfluous and very annoying. The other reason is the dice roles. One problem: When the computer opponent is OUT because he has been hit, the di being tossed move so quickly that the human player can not see the numbers on the di that should be visible. YET, the computer opponent gets back on the board immediately. On 3 or 4 ocassions I have caught the number, on only one of the di and it wasn’t a number the computer opponent should have moved on. It is very hard to explain this in a text, but I gave it my best shot. On these occasions a human player gets really annoyed, because he can not resolve the issue issue. ✓ A great teacherI wanted to learn how to play backgammon and this is a terrific app for that. I love how easy mode shows you where you are allowed to move. I am suspicious of the computer, however. It may be my imagination, but it seems like when I bump a piece to the middle I get really bad dice rolls for awhile. It’s kind of funny. ✓ App improvementsMy original review was TWO years ago. Nothing has changed since I wrote it. In addition, I would like to have a REMATCH button instead of having to go through requesting through an email request! I like to rematch people I am randomly partnered with, but can't if I don't know their email address. ------------------ I've used this app for years now. It's one of the better ones out there. However, I would like to see the following improvements. 1. Make the dice rolls truly random! It seems like doubles pop up all the time when a pip is on the bar, and always with a number that the opponent has blocked. Also, when both players have all their pips on the home row and are bearing off, the player with the most pips on points 5 and 6 only rolls ones and twos. 2. When I have multiple games going, I would like a button to click for "next game" that takes me to the next game where it's my turn to play. (See Words With Friends.) Currently I have to make 3 clicks toget to the next game: Menu, then Games, and then the game I want next..Version: 4.5.2

✓ Great version of the gameThe HD appearance and in-game animation are good, and the dice are mostly fair. If you enjoy backgammon, then this is a good choice. One major feature should be added. There needs to be a "confirm" choice after the move is played when playing an online opponent. Otherwise you can make a wrong tap and lose a game because the checkers didn’t go where you intended, but the love has registered so you’re stuck..Version: 4.6.6
