✓ Looking for a new gameI have been playing this game for well over a year (or 2, who knows?). At the time, it was the best I found for me (tried quite a few). Some things bothered me, and I believe I may have reviewed before, but - you know that in time the little things that bother you become HUGE things that bother you. Kinda how I ended up divorced. I digress. The game is, basically, as good as playing one of my old college opponents (we played for hours upon hours, so I do know the game well). BUT (there is always a but) it makes stupid moves I hate it, because perhaps I shouldn’t have won/loss otherwise. It moves based on ??? the throw of the dice. Example: I just finished a game where the computer got double 5. Instead of getting last man in home on one of them, and then start pulling off, it moved the pieces in order on the board and pulled nothing off. WRONG. No one, not even a novice, would play like that. I wouldn’t let an opponent play like that!!! If they ever fix it, I hope I know, because today I am moving on. ✓ I don't mind being beat but...The computer opponent is a cheat. Plain and simple. On hard setting, the computer will *always* roll exactly what it needs to either block you out or knock you onto the centre bar. I don't mind being beat by an opponent making smarter/better moves but when the computer rolls doubles 3 or 4 times in a row and gets precisely what it needs to win... it's just not fun. Trivial Technology LLC should fix this game by allowing only true randomisation of dice rolls and let the computer play the best move thereafter. If you want to be highly frustrated, get this app. If you want a fair and decent game - go get another developer's product..Version: 4.3.3

✓ If they had an award for least likely rollsThis would take first place. When playing against the pc, it’s almost ridiculous how blatantly fake the rolls are. It’s the least realistic and harshest game on the App Store. After you have all but two of your pegs in while they have pegs still in your base and they will win. They will repeatedly force you to break up your stacks while they constantly just happen to roll the right dice to get all their pegs protected. Total and unmitigated baloney. If it were to cheat less on 1 player, it would be 5 stars..Version: 4.6.5
✓ Fun to play but...I’ve been playing this for about a week and I’ve already noticed that the computer definitely skews heavily towards itself. The computer almost always wins the opening roll. Doubles come up an awful lot and, sixes especially, at very convenient times for itself. Don’t get doubles very often for myself and when I do, they’re ones! Dice rolling is against the player. Period. Gets pretty frustrating after noticing the pattern and looking for it...very predictive..Version: 4.5.8

✓ Cheats to WinWhen playing the game at the Hard level, don’t expect to be pitted against an expert backgammon player. The difficulty of that level is strictly due to the game cheating on its throws of the dice. You will consistently be faced with an opponent that throws doubles on the first or second turn of a game, that consistently gets precisely the combination of dice needed to capture one of your tiles, then throws exactly what it needs to block more of its home spaces while your attempts to get your captured tile back in the game are futile. With rare exceptions, you are consistently denied any opportunity of capturing any if the computer opponent’s tiles. And, in the unlikely event that you start winning by any significant margin, expect to throw ace-deuce until the computer opponent catches up or surpasses you, at which point it will offer to double the stakes, then throw double-6s or capture another of your tiles. Or both. This kind of brute-force auto-leveling of what should be a completely randomized event thwarts any serious player from ever experiencing the genuinely competitive gameplay that a dice game should provide, and speaks to a cynical programming approach that elevates sloth to a sportsmanlike virtue. Also, the ads are truly awful. Do I look like someone who wants to play a slot game, or save a morbidly obese king or comically voluptuous girl from catastrophe? Please..Version: 4.6.5
✓ Computer cheatsI am amazed at how many times the computer cheats. When comparing the number of times that I roll doubles to the number of times the computer rolls doubles in the stats is pretty close to the same but it’s WHEN I get them. The number of times I get them when I can actually use them is nearly not as many as the computer. The number of times the computer is able to hit a blot that I leave the very next move is nowhere the same. Any way I agree with a previous comment that the computer cheats to win.Version: 4.6.6
✓ True to the real game, but adds won't close in the game.I have only played Single Player so far. It is true to the real game. Not sure how the other Multi Player game options work yet. Played an add for yet another stupid slot machine game, to get a reward, and there is no "X" in the corner to close it after it played. The only option presented is to install the stupid slot machine game, or replay the add. I closed the screen to try to get rid of it, but when I open the game again the same add appears, and I can't get back to the game. Won't be playing any adds in the game again, if I can ever get back to the game. Will probably have to shut down the iPad and start it again. Not happy..Version: 4.5.6
✓ Serious flawWhilst this game looks great it has serious flaw in that it is not programmed to force you to play your maximum move that you can make. The rules of backgammon clearly state if you can make a move you must. Usually this requires you to move one piece before the other to achieve this, in this game you can move at your discretion thereby avoiding a potentially exposing a piece. The developers are aware of this issue but refuse or can't fix it. Avoid this game..Version: 3.0.0
✓ Bad support and other issues.According to Game Centre Achievements, I have Won 50 Easy games yet have not played 20 Easy Games or Played 50 Easy Games. This does not make sense. The games are good but could be better. E.g there is no waiting to collect your dice, so if you hit the wrong piece by mistake, your move is played. Annoying! Also it is easy to cheat by using undo to go back and get a better dice roll. If you offer a double and the computer folds, you then select new game and you get the option to resume previous. Simply double again, the computer folds again and you ranking increases. You can keep doing this until you reach the top of the leader board. Pretty pointless but annoying as it makes the rankings fairly worthless. The worst bit is that on an iPad Pro, the pieces do not line up with the board. I have reported this half a dozen times to support but they ignore it..Version: 4.5.8
✓ Thank god for the undo button.Choosing a high difficulty level shouldn’t give preferential treatment to the AI. 82% immediate hit on any unblocked space in home, 68% knock on unprotected pieces. The GUI is beautiful. The animation smooth. If I didn’t have to use the undo button so often I’d feel like I’d be playing a worthy opponent. Sorry to be so negative. I play it a lot just see if I can predict when Ai cheat mode kicks in. It’s pretty predictable… I’m @ level 200+. ✓ Best one I’d played until they loaded the dice!Has a few styles of gammon and is good to play tho it can feel like it’s pointless as they seem to get an uncanny amount of doubles and leave you with small numbers each time,would be better to have an all out online so we can play each other then it’s probably a five star app but for practice against the computer it’s horribly stacked against us. I punished myself for years playing this and each time I come back I find it even funnier that they luck is still all on the other side. Don’t matter your style,mix it up with attack or defensive and it’s getting the numbers it needs and a good few doubles per game. ✓ Good but computer opponent is very luckyI’ve had this game for quite a while, and do enjoy it. However, I have to say, I find it very interesting that the computer almost always gets the exact roll it needs to capture not just one but two of my pieces. Consistently. I’ve experimented with it, leaving various pieces vulnerable, and about 90% of the time those pieces are captured. I, on the other hand, have considerably less than a 50% chance of capturing the computer’s piece. The computer’s rolls are in its favor a majority of the time, which is discouraging..Version: 4.5.8
✓ CHEATER!!!The rolls are rigged on the hard level. The computer rolls doubles ridiculously often. Level of difficulty should become harder because computer makes "experienced" plays, not by rigging the dice. I had a close-out with three of the computer's checkers on the bar and still lost because the computer rolled seven doubles in a row. Yes, seven. Also noted, the computer frequently rolls doubles immediately after you accept a double challenge. I will look for an app where the difficulty level isn't determined by altering the percentage of random rolls the computer makes. Lazy way to program a game. ✓ Something’s not rightYou know something’s not right when you can predict what roll the computer will get. Its ability to get out of trouble is laughably predictable. ✓ Too many adsI’ve enjoyed this app for many years and it was one of the first game apps I purchased. However recent changes to include random pop-up ads have made the experience less enjoyable. ✓ GlitchingI’ve been playing this game for a few years now and it’s a good time killer. But lately the game pieces are offset. They aren’t sitting right on the triangle but just to the side. I deleted the game and reloaded it but it’s still doing it. So I deleted it again. I’ll try reloading it again in the future but for now I’m looking for a better one. ✓ The Computer Is Unconscious At TimesThis version is pretty good. However the computer comes up with the exact rolls needed nearly every time after it opens and is able to cover on the next roll. You play open however and you get smacked nearly everytime. Back the computer up with 4 or so guys still not off the home spot an see how “unconscious” the computer’s rolls become. Another thing, when it is behind an you have all your players in the computer makes the most unlikely moves. Especially when it rolls an ace/duce. Game play needs to be more realistic..Version: 4.6.6
✓ Great game spoilt by inaccurate screen graphicsThis is IMO the best Backgammon game out there, but when played on my iPad Pro 11”, the counters don’t line up correctly on the board due to the app not sizing graphics correctly to the screen. ✓ Computer CheatsIt’s a fun and quick time waster but it would be better if the computer didn’t cheat severely. On easy mode it’s too easy, but if you go above easy mode the computer rolls exactly what it needs every single time. If you can be captured anywhere on the board the computer will magically roll that number every single time. ✓ Backgammon HDA good game. Graphics and visuals are good, but for one point, the overlay which shows available moves is not correctly lined up with the points on the board, which makes it difficult to know which points it is referring to. Yes I know you can count but that negates the purpose of the feature. Also the pieces are not always lined up with the points as well. It makes the game frustrating when it should, and could be a pleasure. I would have given it 5 Stars had it not been for that. ✓ Another ruined Backgammon GameThe latest update put in dice cheating. A couple examples. Clearing pips at the end of the game, the computer threw 5 doubles in 8 turns including 3 double 6s. I had 1,2,3,5, and 6 covered and the computer threw 4s after 3 out of 4 hits. Same game. Computer had 6,5, and 2 covered. I threw 6 2, double 2, and 6,5. Computer is winning opening throw 8 out of 10 games. All of these are possible but the frequency is such a high deviation from the norm as to be highly unlikely. ✓ Trustworthy Backgammon GameThis is a very trustworthy backgammon game. Ive been playing for a while and can say no funny business going on with fake dice or fake players. Some Improvements Needed but I would suggest you play this game instead of others as its fun and runs well most of the time. I want to give 4 stars but think the improvements should be made below first (ordered by priority) 1) This one is quite a bummer. There seems to be a bug in the game where when you double someone you automatically get doubled back and the other person gets the turn you were supposed to get. This causes issues when offering doubles and reduces your chance of winning. 2) If a player is about to gammon or backgammon the opposing player can quit the game and only lose a point. Players should receive a gammon when quitting during a match where all of their pieces aren't in the home board. Same for backgammons. 3) It takes too long before a player makes a move before an auto quit occurs. Ill sometimes be waiting minutes when an opponent gets angry and refuses to play 4) Better stats section. The wins and losses are recorded but how many points you get aren’t. It would also be nice to see what your rating is compared to your opponents 5) There seems to be a bug that happens every so often (1/20) where when you match somebody the game crashes 6) It doesn't seem like the chat button works. ✓ Nothing randomThere is no way the dice roll is random in single player game. Computer gets first role of the game over 80% of the time. The computer gets just the right double at just the right time way to often. The computer roles double sixes three times in a row then double fives and then double all in a row. I win 90% of my matches and only play hardest level so not a sore loser review. It’s just not fun the way it is done. The computer, even at the hardest level makes a lot of really bonehead moves as well. Combine that with the other biases and it’s just not worth having. ✓ Love backgammonBeen playing backgammon since I was 11, but I don't know the board seems backwards to me. kind of hard to get used to. i'm used to starting at the top right, getting my pieces in on the lower right. this game plays the oppisite which for me is hard to get used to playing backgammon 35 years ya get used to playing a certain way, turns me off from this app. i know it sounds petty but ya get used to a certain way it's hard to change & pay attention to moves from the opponent ya know.. otherwise it's a good app. I'm sight impaired so I have trouble seeing the board & it being reversed doesn't help..Version: 4.5.2
✓ Non-random dice rollsI only play the hard mode and still win the majority of the games. Those I lose are not a result of poor strategy. It’s because the dice rolls are clearly rigged for the computer as many other critical reviewers have complained about. I don’t mind losing if I am outplayed but I do mind losing because of rigged dice rolls. Some of the games I’ve won are also not a result of great strategy on my part but rather very poor strategy by the computer, again as other critical reviewers have mentioned. I don’t enjoy winning if the computer makes boneheaded moves, either to just let me win or because of a poorly designed algorithm. ✓ Backgammon score in wrong placeI am playing on an iPad Pro with the latest updates, but lately when I start backgammon up again the score card is on the board and the pieces under the score cards are unplayable. This is very annoying as I love playing the game. The only way to correct this is to delete and re-load from the App Store. This is the best backgammon game I have played, and would give it 5 stars when you can get a fix for this problem, this is happening on my wife’s iPad as well.Version: 4.5.8

✓ Best Backgammon App, but...I love Backgammon, and this is the best app I've found, but the dice rolls ARE FAR FROM RANDOM! Easily a 5 star app with fair dice. Update after previously rating the app 4 stars: The app continues to ask me to rate it, over and over again. Easily a 5 star app if it had "fair dice" and if they disable the pesky "please rate me" after a user actually rates it. UPDATE..... Game pieces don't line up with the board markers on iPad Pro, can't submit a request to fix it because that functionality is broken in the app too (it won't let the user select the appropriate game).
