FINAL FANTASY IV (3D REMAKE) for Negative User Reviews

No cutscenes :(Why WHY didn't you include the beautiful cutscenes like in the DS version? I bought this game hoping to be able to enjoy them. If you're going to release the original version then release the original version, this is like half way between the two - without the benefits of either. Other than that it works great. Please update with full cutscenes!.Version: 1.0.0

Bug makes it impossible.I played this game back in the day and with this port, the boss Goblez is basically unbeatable with the way it is set up. Everything you hit him with basically just heals him….sad that i got this far in the game and now i face a bug that makes what used to be a relatively easy boss into the ultimate badass…lol.Version: 2.0.1

Crashed once, stopped working overall. So the game ran great! Awesome game! Until I got up to The Tower of Babil. Battled a few times and the game crashed, now it won't even open. Whenever I try to enter the game, a black screen flashes and that's it..Version: 1.0.0

Update just to deface the icon. What was the point of this? Is it meant as a warning that this isn't the original game, has none of its charm, and should not be played? No one who cares about Final Fantasy needs to be told this..Version: 2.0.1

IrritatingThis game completely lacks the cursor memory setting which has been a standard in this series long before this, or even the DS port that this is based on, was released. This gets very irritating during longer boss battles, because you have to manually select the action you want every turn. The auto battle feature, unlike the FFV iOS port, only repeats an action you determine in some relatively obscure menu before battle. The previously mentioned FFV's auto battle button repeats the previous action. All of these factors combine to make playing this game feel like a chore. The "back" button in the battle menu is on the top right of the screen, while the action menu is on the bottom left. It's very inconvenient and unintuitive; I often find myself extremely frustrated. I'm not a huge fan of the graphics of the DS remake but I'm not factoring that into my score, because, as far as the graphics go, I knew what I was getting when I bought this. I'm pretty sure most of my problems with this version should actually be directed at the DS port, and most of these problems could easily be fixed. However, they still create unnecessary difficulty and....eh I don't feel like writing anymore. You get the point. I still give it two and a half to three stars because the game underneath these **** controls is solid..Version: 1.4.4

Wasted £12Never played series, thought I would give it a try, wasted money, difficulty level to high, when stuck in cave can't get out if your party is down, can't revive them, and boss just keeps killing you, no fun, no idea half the time where you are supposed to be going as story line is so thin..Version: 1.4.4

Terrible Port DecisionDon't get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy IV. It's actually one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. However, I don't know why they chose to go with the DS port (slow frame rate with ugly graphics and stupid character design) instead of the PSP port (a visual remaster of the classic 2D game for the SNES). My biggest issue is the frame rate. It makes the battles much slower than they are, and it just isn't easy on the eyes. Also, I can't take any of the cutscenes in this game seriously because of the Wind Waker style models. Terrible port for a good game..Version: 1.4.4

Need to offer older musicThe 3D aspect really isn’t an upgrade over the original sprites. And this applies moreso to the music. Not one musical track was improved over the original. You really need to offer the original music as an option because the new versions just sound odd..Version: 2.0.1

It's okThe re make is ok, but I think it's a little ridiculous when you start on Hard and you get killed in the beginning by a bird from a random encounter after Kain and Cecil set out on their mission..Version: 1.3.2

What is wrong with the fights?First off, I chose Normal difficulty. Let that be known. I'm 30 minutes into the game, leveling up on the main map with Kain. Almost all of my fights start with a Surprised! or Back Attack! not in my favor. Then I get into a fight and before I could even get one attack out there, four birds turned both my characters to stone and gave me a Game Over. I got into another fight against those same 4 birds and barely won with Kain surviving. Now Kain is the leader with no obvious way of switching lead back to Cecil after healing him. (FYI, you do it on the game screen. You tap the character to change between party members) Lastly, I have Auto enabled. And when I don't have Back Attack, and my ATB meter is full I should attack immediately. Not let my characters politely sit there and get hit by all 4-5 enemies before finally attacking. It might as well been Surprised or Back Attack at that point. I don't know what you did to this game to create such frustration, but something needs to be done. I didn't choose Hard so it shouldn't be like this. Get rid of those birds from the starting area is one idea. Lower the rate of Surprised and Back Attack is another. Change how fast Auto chooses my attacks. And this is within the first 30 minutes of play!.Version: 1.4.4

Love it But also Hate ItThe story is really good and I love the battle system. What I really hate is that some bosses, like Dr. Lagae. I didn't do any level grinding up to that point and always loss the 3rd battle. I had to go back and level up. What I also find really stupid is, why in the world the DS version!? 1. ITS EXTREMELY UGLY 2. FOR DEVICES LIKE IPADS IT LAGS which makes the battle slow The PSP version looks much better and I don't care if it's in 2D. At least everyone didn't look like small *ss children. If they did PSP version, then there wouldn't be lag. Sometimes I find this game annoying because in the underworld, there are flamehounds. Their scorch attack really pisses me off because when you get ambushed, they all use the scorch attack (3 flamehounds: very common) the party dies. The thing I mostly care about is playing the game and carrying on with the story. I try not to pay attention to the graphics, but I can't. When the characters talk, I find it really funny, especially when Cid talks. His mouth is humongous and everyone else's mouth are so tiny. Overall, the game is decent..Version: 1.4.4

A good game, but a bad portNo question this is a great old Final Fantasy game, but this port leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly for iPhone 5 owners, the "widescreen" support means you get the regular iPhone screen ratio stretched to fill the widescreen, so everything is distorted. UI elements are also scaled without any filtering, meaning they look blocky. As if that wasn't bad enough, the low end NIntendo DS visuals (no texture filtering here, you can see every pixel in those low res textures) don't run very well and slow down often (especially in battles). To cap it all, the virtual stick is locked to 8 directions only! This is a lazy effort, and given Square's history of limited updates to their iOS efforts I doubt this will ever be fixed. Oh and the voice acting is truly awful and sounds like Square employed a bunch of out of work 1980 Saturday morning American cartoon actors. It's painfully bad..Version: 1.0.0

My first Final Fantasy That got me hookedI heard Final Fantasy X was the best game my friends had ever played, so I wanted it really bad in the early 2000s, but instead, I got this game. Little did I realize how amazing it was, but after a little while, after playing all of them 1-11 (this is 2003) game, I kind of drifted away from the series. Then, I saw the remake of this game. I am thinking “THIS’LL BE AMAZING!” I got all the games a decade before this remake, and when I played this, I was disappointed. The port isn’t good, the difficulty is bad. What the heck happened to Hit9999 and Max Stats? However, the story is good, and I like how they added voices. Oh well, a few years after this I tried Type 0 and Fifteen and I actually DID get every game in the series..Version: 1.4.4

Just one more thing...I had heard that you can keep Edward in the game boy advanced. (It might be after years I'm confused with) I want to use the spoony bard at his full potential. I want to use this broken character. WHY CAN'T I!? People will argue that Edward is the weakest character, but, at level 70 and beyond, his stats skyrocket..Version: 1.4.4

DS versionThe same as DS version, i played the original, but this one has updated graphics that I don't really like. although the shape of the characters is better there is a huge lack of detail in facial features, also some of the moves are different, if I Remember correctly e.g Cecil's darkness instead of attacking to enemy's it charges for 1 turn and boost attack at the cost of HP. But as a whole it still the same story and still a good game. Edit: also been given the easy treatment, you can not loose. There absolutely no point in saving if you die it just Respawns you don't get game over if you shut the game , it opens up where you were. Poor port to easy.Version: 1.4.4

Hate itI can't stand the ugly, half-a***d, silly 3D characters and environment. The original Super Nintendo version was beautiful, why do the characters have to look like prepubescent, cartoon, in-proportionate children? What is this, Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network? I thought I could get past it when I bought it, but every time anyone speaks, or does anything for that matter in the game, the serious tone is ruined by the unavoidably foolish presentation. I just can't stand it. I threw away my money. Don't buy this game if you have any sort of good taste. If the devs want to port the original snes version without these nasty, ugly, childish, stupid graphics, I would pay 40 bucks for it: the game is a classic. Otherwise, unless you like playing a game that is written to be very serious and dark, but is ruined by your protagonist's cartoony head which is about 3 times larger than his emaciated body, don't buy it..Version: 1.4.4

The game is greatFor those that don't know, 1) You only receive *one* Limit Break augment (as opposed to two) -- you receive it after completing your first playthrough; you do *not* receive one after beating New Game +. This is a very important difference if you are planning to max your characters' stats via augments. 2) The Developers' Room is completely different in the iOS version (and much easier to complete). 3) No Whyt summon or mini-games or anything else associated to him in the iOS version. 4) The quest for the Piercing Magic augment is different in the iOS game. 5) Intro FMV is not included. Nothing is that much important, except for the 2nd limit break, which make me pretty unhappy. I am the perfectionist kind of person, even more for such great games such as all the FF series so I feel pretty disappointed. I think it's stupid. I feel sad I didn't see many review speaking about it. I hope this will be helpful for those like me, maybe play it on the Snes be a better option..Version: 1.4.0

Song SummonerI love you Square Enix. You make excellent games, one of which is Song Summoner. Fix it and stop ignoring those that love the game..Version: 1.4.0

Would have preferred this the original 16bitEverything about this version feels off. The music, cocaphonous; the controls, loose and sloppy; and the graphics as all things 3D, have not aged well, at all. This feels starkly inferior to FFV and FFVI, where the visual upgrades were slight and not 3D garbage. If possible I would love to trade this app for the 2D snes version..Version: 1.4.4

ErrorsLove FF4 remake but can’t continue on because as soon Cecil transforms into paladin it crashes and can’t continue. Shut the app but problem still exists..Version: 2.0.1

MehHealing circles on the ground at certain parts of the game in cave's are not doing anything so it's making the game longer and harder to play as I've got to grind and keep spending money on potions so it's taken me twice as long to level up not good at all. Uninstalled started new game and still not fixing the fault. Also I remember this game would fully heal you every time you would level up. This isn't the case anymore and i can't keep playing if I've got to leave the cave/dungeon to use tents and buy more potions as that's the only way I can seem to heal up..Version: 1.4.4

No Cloud Save?Great game, great story, but where's the iCloud save feature? You can easily sync hours into this game, it would be nice to have that data backed up. Please add iCloud support.Version: 1.2.0

The game is awesome but sound cut off halfway throughThe sound cut off halfway through the game. Immediately when it gets to the title screen it just stops playing music. There’s effect sounds but no music….what’s going on?! Super sad :(.Version: 2.0.1

A Relentless Assault on Your SanitySeasoned RPG fans beware, do NOT select "Hard" as your difficulty . The developers do not understand the difference between "challenging" and "frustrating". The game stops being fun REAL quick. Bosses are overpowered while you, leveling up to even higher than recommended levels, are flailing to advance and relying on luck (the possibility that MAYBE they won't spam that status-altering or instant-kill attack). This persists for the entire game. Temporary characters are cursed with Max Stats (they will level up, but don't expect anything to come from that). This is an issue because you are forced to face enemies that WILL kill them with one hit. Someone new joined your team? Better spend about 3-4 hours grinding. And even then, good luck. Zeromus is WAY too far from the last save point. So get used to "rage quit" and "continue" or else get ready to have all your hard work undone. Even then, cut scenes may be skippable, but if any of them involve a "battle sequence", not only are you unable to skip those, but the dialogue is achingly slow and you have to sit through all of it. Over, and over, and over again. Final Fantasy IV is one of the greatest video games on the SNES, and this port has some serious audacity to be using that name. This is a cold, joyless chore, and fans deserve better..Version: 1.4.4

No iCloud saves, etc...The game is good, but for $17 the least they could do is let you trade saves between devices. Also, it's obvious that the iPhone 5 version is just stretched. Properly supporting the iPhone 5 would earn another star. This and FFIII are the best iOS ports of Final Fantasy titles. If you can only afford one, get this one. UPDATE 1.2.0: Changes nothing. Still a great game, still a featureless port..Version: 1.2.0

It's good for the first 20 hoursAfter the first 20 hours, it gets way to hard. I am incapable of completing the game, despite forums informing me that I am near completion. However even before that, the game is far from the masterpiece both FFV and FFVI are. I would pick 5 or 6 over this any day.Version: 1.3.1

Could be betterThis game is great. It runs smoothly and has a good story. My main complaint is that when you die you nothing happens, you just reload right to where you started the battle. Besides the boss battles, you could literally lose every fight and still beat the game. This is bad game design. There needs to be some stakes in order for the game to feel challenging and fun. Also there should be a way to play the original SNES version on iOS. I like the old graphics and nostalgic feel better. This one looks kind of goofy and the voice acting isn’t great..Version: 2.0.1

Great game but keeps crashingIt’s a great game to play, even though you can only really enjoy it on the 2nd time through once you get the Safe Travel augment to make some of the incredibly tedious dungeons more bearable. However I, giving it 3 stars because it crashes randomly, since iOS15, with no discernible pattern. Fortunately the Continue option means you don’t lose your progress but it’s clearly unstable. Bug fix needed!.Version: 2.0.1

Amazing game! However ..I'm about 17 hours into the game now and I've come across a weird glitch which I couldn't find anywhere else on the internet, I was grinding then suddenly every fight I had all the characters and npcs just stopped fighting and I couldn't run away and when I finally got a kill my characters just stood there.Version: 1.2.0

IOS 9 support? This game needs and update for iOS 9. Can't pick default language anymore..Version: 1.4.0

How did this seem like a better idea......then releasing the original version. Dialogue changes are one thing, but they turned it into a over dramatic, melodramatic, story, with bad graphics and an overhead view that is not as big, and difficult to see. Don’t waste your money if the old school FF4 is what you want. This is horrible by comparison. If you haven’t played original, and like melodrama, you find something you like..Version: 1.4.4

2D please!!Please consider releasing this in it’s 2d format. The character models are hideous and the environments lack the detail that I expect from Square Enix. The voice acting is also dreadful... what is this mess! If you haven’t played FF4 before it has one of best stories and I can not recommend it enough. The PSP/PS vita version is far superior..Version: 1.4.4

Why the DS port? The 3D version of this game is so distracting that I feel like I can't breathe every time I try to play it. The screen is stretched and you can see this easily by looking at the fonts. Why the PSP version wasn't ported to mobile is beyond me; that version retained the original 2D graphics, but enhanced. Go play this game on an emulator and do not buy this one. Oh, and the game can do without the voice acting. Give me a break..Version: 1.4.4

Don't Like This VersionThis is a port of the DS version. If you're looking for SNES nostalgia be forewarned. The biggest drawback is the leveling doesn't work the same. Returning characters come back at set levels. As a result level grinding has to take place as you go rather than running solo work with Cecil on Mt Ordeals. I also can't stand the perspective. You can't see as much of the world around you so running through dungeons and caves feels very claustrophobic. There are some positives. I enjoy the cut scenes. There is also some balancing to compensate for the differences in leveling characters while they're not in the party. And I do enjoy the graphics. I also like being able to run. All in all what I was looking for in a port for my phone to kill time here and there was a copy of the SNES version. This is not that. Thus my overall disappointment. I can't say if I will actually finish playing through. If not it was a waste of $15..Version: 1.4.4

I’m Baffled by the Frame RateI love FFIV. I’ve played it on SNES, PSP, and DS. I was pretty excited to have it on the go again, but what the going on with this frame rate, particularly during the battles? Maybe the DS port ran like this too but I didn’t realize at the time, but this almost feels unplayable to me. The frame rate makes it hideous. On the bright side, I still have a Vita kicking around and I had bought the FFIV After Years complete edition thing digitally back in the day, so I suppose I can just revisit the game that way instead..Version: 2.0.0

Cloud save doesn't workCloud save doesn't work between devices.Version: 1.4.0

Same great game BUT....Crashes alot i mean ALOT .... needs to be updated .... either than that its the same game i loved for super nintendo.... fix it please guys.Version: 1.0.0

Great Remake, needs RNG updatesGreat remakes of a classic, I have only ever played the original SNES version. A few gripes I have about the gameplay however: 1. Allow the player to rearrange items, 2. Allow for stashing items with the fat chocobo again so you can have 99 on hand on more in stash, 3. ‘Examine’ items, some items do not offer complete descriptions of their immunities, augment descriptions aren’t great I feel like I’m taking a gamble when assigning, and 4. Improve the RNG. I have fought more than 1000 battles against thunder dragons without receiving a blue tail. I get grinding.....but this is ridiculous. In contrast I received a red tail after 16 battles. I’m a completionist and this RNG is ruining my marriage :P this game does not have enough story/content and is not interactive enough to justify 300 hours for 100% completion..Version: 2.0.1

Add support for iCloud savingCould developers please update and add support for iCloud saving? That would really make life easier for me knowing that my saves are automatically backed up. Thanks.Version: 1.2.0

Almost like the original...This was by far my favorite FF out of the entire series when it came out on SNES. This port works well, but using an iPhone 5 with iOS 6 I've had it crash 5 times in less than 5 hours of gameplay. This is more annoying than anything because the auto save always works and I'm back where I was when it crashed (or 30 seconds from it) I do wish the graphics were like the original SNES version. I realize these graphics were in the DS version but now it's on an iOS device, so try to make it look like it wasn't made in someone's basement 10 years ago..Version: 1.0.0

Awful graphicsI hate this business model by SEnix where they completely change the graphic style of their old games. They either do what hey did with FF6 and restyle their sprites by making them goofy and blurry; or they do what they did with this game by making it look like it was made at the beginning of the N64's life. I would pay full price for remakes of these classics with just HD graphic upgrades and high quality sprites. Look at Final Fantasy Brave EXVIUS for how sprite graphics should look. Beautiful artwork that retains the personalities. Tl:dr amazing story and nostalgic. Awful graphic style.Version: 1.4.4

Frame rate issueIs there a way to fix the frame rate issue in battles? Or could you do an update that does?.Version: 1.1.0

No soundIt’s an ok port but the fact that after years the bug that keeps bgm from playing still hasn’t been fixed and there hasn’t been a patch in around a year is kinda sad..Version: 2.0.1

Good! The game is almost as I remembered. Somethings was amiss. Like I remember Cecil able to use dual weapons as a Paladin. The game plus could be better, like let us keep everything and let us start at the level we ended, expand leveling to 198. Balance the enemies to new higher leveling. That’s what a game plus would sound like..Version: 1.4.4

CrashI just beat Golbez and saved and my iPod died when I went to open it up again it crashed. I tried again and again but it won't open.Version: 1.2.0

FF8 would be betterGood but final fantasy 8 on my phone would be better.Version: 1.4.4

ICloud save needed!Ok so you have iCloud save in FF Tactics... now please put it in FFD and FFIV Please add this important feature to all your universal titles! These games take a long time to play. We pay a premium price and expect those details covered. Otherwise this game is a timeless classic and definitely worth getting..Version: 1.2.0

Love this game, controls are useless, no controller supportThis was my favorite game from childhood and I absolutely love watching the cutscenes bring to life moments of a story that I treasure. The controls; especially in battle; are as counterintuitive as anything I’ve ever tried to use. I thought I could counter that with a controller, but this game does not support it. Any battle that I can’t auto-battle through (though I do love being able to set auto-battle commands) usually just leads to me quitting the game for a while. The quality of life improvements are mostly a nice addition, but taking away the ability for characters to equip a variety of weapons is unwelcome. Overall, this is a nice nostalgia hit, but ultimately not very viable as a game..Version: 2.0.1

Square Prices are getting unreasonable.$10 for a 20 year old game. It’s good but hasn’t aged well. Better off with a snes rom since you need turbo to get through some of the more tedious sections and backtracking. Not isolated to this title and charging an apple premium. Final Fantasy IX is $20 on iOS and $5 on ps3 with vita/psp crossplay. Even with the Christmas sale it’s not worth the dollars.Version: 1.4.4

Play the old oneSad to see how such a great game could become such a disaster.Version: 2.0.0

Difficulty is whackedI would forewarn you to not select the Hard mode if you like to grind out levels to make the game easier for you. I put in about 8 hours of grinding levels in areas that gave good experience and I’m just barely surviving fights in that first tower you are trying to save Rosa from. I should be annihilating these enemies. So, my complaint is that enemies are overpowered and your characters are underpowered with both physical attackers and magic wielders. Even when using the correct strategy, you run into ridiculous situations where you quickly run out of MP points. Why in the hell does Tellah only have 90 MP points at level 36!? He’s got all these fantastic spells and he can’t use them without running out of MP super fast. And then to add insult to injury, they really string you along with Ethers so that you have to be oh so frugal otherwise you are out before you know it. You cannot buy them at least this far into game. You can only find them on maps. I hate how difficult they’ve made this. Hard work does not pay. There is simply no relief. I played this game on the Nintendo and it was never this hard. I’m sorry but they need to rebalance this game. Way too difficult to be fun. If I cannot even work hard to get ahead I’m going to lose interest really fast in this game. At least enable me to change difficulty to Normal without having to start new game..Version: 1.4.4

Very unhappyAfter purchasing the bulk of the Final fantasy games I tried to download my purchased copies only to find them missing. Now they want you to re-purchase them. What a rip off. You should have released new ones without messing with the old versions. Done with you guys.Version: 2.0.1

Where’s the sound?I love this game and very happy o play it on the ipod, however there is no music or sound? Is there a reason for this?.Version: 1.4.4

Great game just buggyThis is my first time playing ff4 and I have to say that I'm loving it, just not the bugs. The game is crashing at the end of a boss fight continuously and not letting me advance with the story and I'm a good way into it as well. Other than the crashes I have and the steep price tag this is a brilliant game that has kept me entertained for hours, I even put down my Xbox pad to keep playing it! Once an update has come to fix the bugs this would be a 4 star game and if the price was a bit lower this would be a 5 star game. Bring on 6, 7 and 9!.Version: 1.0.0
