Norton Genie: AI Scam Detector for Negative User Reviews

Hair on screenCan’t say much on the app performance yet but the virtual hair on the screen is a bad joke. The hair only exists on this Genie app..Version: 1.0.2

Perhaps it might get betterScanned two screen shots of emails I have had that seemed to me to be blatant scams. The app didn’t know. UPDATE Added a TV Licensing (UK) scam email that was obviously a scam. Had wrong licence number and renewal date. This app hadn’t a clue. Have ended up deleting it..Version: 1.0.7

JunkHad hopes this would work, doesn’t…..Period, end of story. Copied and pasted info of obvious scam into genie. Genie said looks legit….Deleted app due to clunky copy/paste function to scan. Why isn’t this tech already incorporated into Norton Anti Virus anyway……?.Version: 1.0.11

Don’t bother.I’ll keep this short and simple. The app could not detect any obvious scam emails. The failure rate for this app stands at 100%. I am deleting it..Version: 1.0.7

Norton genieTried obvious scams and always says it can’t detect without more info. Used pictures and text..Version: 1.0.2

Failed 3 from 3I took photos of three known scam emails and loaded the images one by one to the app. Results were: Not a scam; don’t know and don’t know. Hard to be impressed..Version: 1.0.2

Needs improvementI have shown Genie a few emails that you can tell at a glance are scams and Genie has said no problem to all of them. Very disconcerting if you don’t know what a scam looks like. Not good. Must improve this product..Version: 1.0.3

Pretends as if it is doing Hitech checking in AIIt is only cosmetic show as if it is AI enabled but it did not identify spam message though I posted receivers iCloud email id which itself I. A pattern that is spam or malicious nor it found from text of matter as if promises something unbelievable.Better Norton get the product fully developed before release than using users as its testers and employees.Version: 1.0.11

UselessNorton is really disappointing me of late..every time I do some sort of scan it wants to sell me some sort of add on.. This one is worse then useless it can’t do anything with an email which is 99% of scams where come from so what is it’s use. Thank god it I didn’t cost anything..Version: 1.0.3

Not EffectiveNorton usually produces good products. But the Norton Genie is not one of them. I tested it using email screen print images for items I knew were scams. It said some were light! It said most were undetermined. And it said just a few were scams. DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS APP. IT IS NOT ADEQUATELY EFFECTIVE AND COULD GIVE YOU A SENSE OF SECURITY ON SINE EMAILS THAT ARE CLEARLY SCAMS..Version: 1.0.3

This app needs some workI just downloaded the app and ran two checks….both from scam emails. Both came back with the same statement…”It’s not totally clear. Sorry, I cannot advise you…”. The idea is good, but it’s not ready for the public, yet..Version: 1.0.2

Totally uselessI have faith in Norton antivirus but … if this was my evaluation test - I’d avoid Norton like the plague, even absolutely blatant spam/ scams it can’t identify.Version: 1.0.9

Not impressedI gave it the text of a message that is an obvious scam ( the classic "Do you have a moment? I'm heading into a meeting with limited communication access. So just reply by email. " And it said it wasn't a scam. Astonishing this wasn't detected. Red flags all over it! Really worrying that this app will give people a false sense of security..Version: 1.0.3

Early release doesn’t work well.Just downloaded this app and tried it on an email that I received that was supposed to be from Lifelock with a gmail address. This app said that it couldn’t help me with what was obviously a scam email. Lifelock wouldn’t use a gmail address, yet this app couldn’t help by identifying an obvious scam? I hope it improves as it is used and learns more, but it is not very effective at present..Version: 1.0.2

EmailSo far I’ve uploaded screenshots of two emails with and it replies that it can’t help. So it’s no help..Version: 1.0.2

Could do betterWhat a damaging and dangerous App this is. I uploaded a Virgin Media scam I’d discovered and Genie told me “Good news, it’s not a scam,” when it clearly was and would have led me to a crypto website. There are a lot of gullible people out there that can’t spot some scams. They’re the ones that’d most likely accept the above text. I’m going to delete it, as should everyone else..Version: 1.0.3

Not fully cooked yetThis app definitely has the right idea but is…..for lack of a better word—-wonky ! Another reviewer exclaimed that we shouldn’t be required to copy and paste emails we wish to check. They are 100% correct….and it’s “wonky” to use at best. I really hope work is continuing on this app because it’s nearly useless as it stands..Version: 1.0.3

Couldn't even recognise a Norton scam emailNot impressed with this app as it couldn't even identify a scam email from "Norton"! You had one job! Won't be using it in the future..Version: 1.0.3

Not Ready for Prime TimeI know that it’s an early access app, but have to copy/paste or take a phot of it is pretty lame. An email most of the time doesn’t even fit in one screen shot if you want to go that route. And having to copy/paste is a hassle. I take a photo of an email which I know wasn’t a scam and it properly said it wasn’t. I will it some more and see if I can fool it. I have Norton 360 on my PCs and IOS devices. Come on Norton, do thi the right way and intercept and read the message on your own and raise a flag when you notice something that doesn’t look right..Version: 1.0.6

Waste of timeJust downloaded this app. Tried it on a known scam email and it said it was not a scam. Don’t waste your time on this product. It needs a lot more development before it is safe to rely upon. Not recommended..Version: 1.0.3

Obvious scam cleared as OKThis is preview/development but it strikes me that "first, do no harm" should be in the minds of the people who have released this. It has the potential to massively impact Nortons reputation, if someone takes this advice, and gets there bank account cleared out. Maybe this is intended to catch at the second or third stages of contact but it OKd an obvious scam purporting to come from Adobe....Version: 1.0.4

Not worth itDid not detect obvious scams that purported to be from lifelock with a gmail address. A valid Norton communication would not come from a gmail address. AI should catch this very basic scam..Version: 1.0.2

Dangerous GarbageThis app is completely useless and fails to identify even the most obvious phishing and other scams. Use this at your own risk. Don’t click on links in emails. Don’t open unexpected attachments. Delete this horrible app..Version: 1.0.3

Doesn’t workUploaded 2 emails that were scams, and it couldn’t tell me they were or not!.Version: 1.0.3

Not worth the timeI downloaded this app thinking it would be helpful as I get a lot of scam emails and texts. I sent two different messages and got the same answer for both. Sorry we can’t tell if this is a scam or not. Really? One of the emails was from Norton approving my purchase of their software, which I didn’t buy. What a joke. I immediately deleted the email and the app. If they can’t even recognize someone using their company in a scam, what good is it. Very disappointing as I use Norton for my protection. May have to reconsider their product.Version: 1.0.4

Not yetI agree with the naysayers. Will be removing it immediately.Version: 1.0.7

Only has 7 reviews? Not 27.Is this app itself a scam? Ratings says 27 yet only shows 7..Version: 1.0.2

Too Complicated & DangerousThe app should be located right where I read my emails & text messages. Instead its a separate app somewhere on my phone. This app should NEVER ask me to copy & paste an email or text containing a virus onto a separate page into the Norton Genie app. I could accidentally tap the link to the virus in doing so. Not everybody knows how to copy & paste on an iPhone. The app is useless & is of no help in warning people of scam messages..Version: 1.0.3

Totally idiotic. Worse than useless. Dangerous.Https://www.auspost-services.support/payment? Australia Post, Monday 7 August 2023, states above URL Link is a scam. Norton Genie's assessment, " Saturday 5 August 2023, after " delving deeper " : " I've looked again. It's actually okay to click. It's not a scam " – is FALSE negative ( that it's NOT a scam, is false ) – resulting in two credit cards entered, acquired by criminals, requiring both cards re-issued, at cost ( for one ) of AUD $ 6. Most basic, scam URL, Norton Genie = total fail. Utterly useless. Monday 7 August 2023, enter above URL Link + ABOVE FOUR PARAGRAPHS, into Norton Genie, results, after " digging deeper ", in further FALSE negative ( that it's NOT a scam, is false ) – " Ok, I checked further. I can't spot any red flags in this link. It's not a scam " – encourages, average person, to be victimized, by most basic, URL Link scam, in name of Australia Post – which practically almost all Australians, expect texts from, as to deliveries. Totally idiotic. Worse than useless. Dangerous. App Store needs option, for NO stars – cannot send review, without at least, one star; false assessment. Statements of 'Norton Genie', in reply to, entering URL + above EIGHT paragraphs, into its "custom question" function : "NG I'm sorry to hear that you were a victim of a scam. Our initial URL scan found the link to be unknown, and our deep scan found it to be clean. However, we understand that things can change quickly in the world of cybersecurity, and we're constantly updating our systems to adapt to those changes. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our services. If you have any other questions about online safety or cybersecurity, feel free to ask." "Move on." [ Norton Genie prompt, as to user-response. ] Moving on – to notify everyone, via App review. Fools. Saturday 5 August 2023 to Monday 7 August 2023 is NOT "change quickly in the world of cybersecurity". Even ENTERING INFORMATION, into Norton Genie, that Australia Post states URL Link to be a scam, results in THREE further false negatives. Shameless, idiotic fools, running dangerous App. Your response, to your total incompetence, is narcissist. Perhaps, ChatGPT, etc, might be more useful / accurate / successful. Norton Genie is STILL generating FOURTH false negative – even when, information entered, into Norton Genie, as to previous THREE false negatives + Australia Post's statement, it's a scam – AND despite, NortonLifelLock Inc's statement : "we're constantly updating our systems to adapt to those changes. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our services" Screen-shots available, documenting, as above. Interested, to see Norton Genie personnel's supervisors' response, to above Norton Genie experience, in public, App Store review..Version: 1.0.2

UselessIt cannot detect a scam text message. It’s failed 3 times..Version: 1.0.7

Did not detect an obvious scam and dangerousTried it on an obvious McAfee scam and it came up with “this is hard to tell”, “it looks suspicious”. As a previous reviewer stated, “dangerous”. If a scammer keeps rewording and reformatting to get this to say it is not a scam, then someone using this terrible app might be taken in. App deleted, common sense prevails!.Version: 1.0.4

Missed a scam email that was already flagged by googleFirst thing I tried was one of those scam emails for a bogus order. Google had already put it in my Scam folder. Genie told me it was NOT a scam. There is no way that I can see to tell the app that it is wrong, so not sure how it learns. Deleting app now..Version: 1.0.2
