DEVICE 6 for Negative User Reviews

Pointless waste of timeI give this game one star for pure absurdity. I can't believe I wasted and hour and a half of my life and $3.99 hoping that there would eventually be a point to this game. There isn't. If you like games where you have to search for random stuff play The Room instead. If you actually want to challenge your brain then play Tetris or Tangrams..Version: 1.1

Paid reviewers and now itunes sells out as wellI dont believe a minute that these reviews are real. and now itunes is plugging this old game as well. what is going on? this company makes a whole slew of super artsy but crappy games that are not really even games. they are some mix of one boring thing with another boring thing. i bought them all and have played them all just because everybody says how great they are. yearwalk- boring, complicated, and nothing happens. sailors dream - same side scrolling crap, obviously built on the same boring game engine, and again nothing really happens! and then this - a book that you have to turn you device around and around to read. really? is this a childrens book? and why does that and 4 crappy puzzles make this “game of the year”??? i was fooled into buying this garbage so please dont be fooled out of your money as well. i will tell you the truth because the app store obviously has sold out completely..Version: 1.3

A short story in a complicated formatTo me this is a short story in a complicated and annoying format..Version: 1.4

Too toughPretty much had to you tube this to get anywhere. Well done if game is for geniuses. For us mortals I just had to delete game. If I couldn’t even get the first and what should be easiest puzzle I felt no hope of doing it myself. Actually quite annoying to download something so difficult..Version: 1.4

RubbishEssentially this is a story book with an occasional picture thrown in and various puzzles. Annoyingly you need to keep the turning screen around to read the text. Totally pointless and absolute rubbish, spend your money instead on the very many good puzzle games available. This isn’t one of them.Version: 1.3

Poor valueI gave this 3 star rating originally for it was original, but original does not mean good. It is effectively an interactive story with zero replayability and as such is waaaay overpriced. It had many points where it could have provided much more in the way of non-linear or indeed anything other than rather obvious solutions. Those who say the graphics are good merely mean original surely for in fact they are incredibly simple. And far too few. A ‘replay’ just to see if there was any point completed the job in half hour - first play through took me about 3 to 4 hours. Sorry overall a thumbs down . Poor value for money.Version: 1.1

Pretty well written, puzzles OKPretty well written, and the little world they have created is somewhat interesting and fun to explore and learn about. The plot twist / extra bonus level of interest is quite cool. The chapters puzzles are all identical, unfortunately: Seek clues in the environment / text that give you numbers or symbols to enter on various keypads to pass to the next chapter. Overall, I’m sort of glad I played it. To the authors: Leave the cigarettes out of the story. It adds nothing to the character, and smoking is terrible..Version: 1.5

Not for me!I do love puzzle games. I really liked The Year Walk. The puzzles in this game are for another kind of intelligence that I might not have. In fact, this game made me feel like a really dumb person! And I really do not like that feeling when playinga game. I was able to finish only one chapter without assistance. I was feeling like I was going thru a Mensa test! Puzzles too complicited for me! On the other hand, the design, the canvas of the story, the way of playing the game, the musical universe and the creepy mood are all above expectations. I do think it is still a great game but not for me....Version: 1.1

Could have been so much better...First of all the design and original use of sound with reading is really quite original and well executed. However, as others have said, this game just wasn't immersive enough either through its plot (a term used loosely here), its puzzles or its protagonist. One of the main aspects of this game that subtracted from its ability to draw you in, was the constant need to physically turn the ipad around. Upon first encountering this in chapter one, I quite enjoyed the novelty of this. However I soon found myself hoping that it would not be a feature throughout the rest of the game, which unfortunately it was. I found this especially annoying considering you are advised from the start to use headphones. Add to this a charger lead and all the tossing and turning gives the potential for some serious tangling! I got a strong sense from all the opinion gathering after every level that this was a game that even its makers were not too sure of - almost like they knew it wasn't quite on the money. Let's hope that the feedback aspect really is functional and they learn from their players' opinions. When all's said and done it is original and quite beautiful and that isn't something you can say too often these days. As for people whining about the price? It's TWO QUID! Check down the back of the sofa or in your jeans' pocket and you'll have your money back..Version: 1.1

Didn't get itDidn't get this game. not for me. never understood this..Version: 1.2

Not as many puzzles as you'd expect.I suggest reading about this app before buying it. I was expecting more puzzles, but was disappointed that in most chapters there is only one multifaceted puzzle at the end. With 6 chapters, i wanted more. The story is original, and makes you feel a part of it, but is simpler than i expected. This is a great starting point for a new way to tell stories. i look forward to seeing this concept develop in future releases..Version: 1.1

I wish I could love itThe sound is not working for me, no music, no audio clips. I've been trying to find a solution to fix it but there is nothing anywhere, and no way to control the sound via the app or app controls in my phone's settings. And the audio is quite important to be able to accomplish anything with this app. Otherwise it's an awesome app, but I'm quite frustrated with this glitch. Other applications sounds work great on my phone..Version: 1.1

I just don't get it ?It was confusing at the start of the game i thought I would get it but I just don't? I watched a load of tutorials on how to play this game but the puzzles are so hard to figure out and the way the game keeps making you tilt the screen to read it makes it even more difficult i was hoping for a good puzzle game which I could understand and give a good story but this game is just too complicated to understand..Version: 1.2

CrapNot to mention boring as hell.Version: 1.2

No sound and no helpApparently this is a great game, but without sound and no way to fix the problem, it is nothing and a total waste of time and money. No help, support or guidance available anywhere - very poor..Version: 1.2

Too clever by halfWell this is awkward. I played Device 6 because I really enjoyed Year Walk. But this one left me feeling flat and disinterested. Whereas YW was a story with puzzles, this is a puzzle with a story stapled on. Whereas YW story was engaging and integrated and held me to the end, this one felt a little bit forced. All styling, text orientations, path following mostly felt clever rather than vital to the play experience. While I appreciate the bizarre and mysteries and "neverending story"-type blurring between reader/book (or gamer/game) boundaries, Dev6 simply didn't suspend my disbelief enough to lure me in. Judging by the other reviews here, that is most likely my fault and loss. Good puzzles though..Version: 1.1

Frustrating and boringIt’s definitely unique and obviously well made but I was pretty bored from the beginning and super frustrated because it makes you think you’re on the right track while actually being way off. I play A LOT of puzzle games (practically all I’ve played since childhood) and this boring game had me stumped from the beginning. I gave it two tries and couldn’t get through the first puzzle without a walkthrough. That’s not fun. It’s just a waste of my precious little game time..Version: 1.3

What????????Okay, I'll give this 3 stars, which is 3 stars more than I enjoyed it. As far as its originality, brassy classiness, and outside-the-box creativity, which probably deserves a serious high star indie rating, I just can't. Not for me. Having to turn my device around - and around - and around - while reading text = irritation I'm not willing to endure. I'm disappointed to find only 5 star reviews, which largely persuaded me to give this game a go. Someone out there, like me, may wish to know this game's purposely quirky, but to what end, I don't understand. Hope this review is allowed to stand. Good luck with finding your fan base... it seems it's out there..Version: 1.2

Waste of moneyWas bored out of my mind within a minute of "playing" this story game. Same with Year Walk by the same developer, the idea seems interesting but then you play it and it's so boring. Doesn't keep my attention at all. Don't understand how this one got so much praise, seems like more for it's uniqueness than it's actual good gameplay. Definitely staying away from Simogo in the future, been burned by them too many times. Their games look pretty but you don't have fun..Version: 1.1

StupidThis game isn't worth $0.99. The puzzles are not fun. The interface is horrifically clunky. The sound is unlevel and pretty much unpleasant through the entire game. The graphics - what graphics there are - aren't in the least attractive. The story is contrived and moronic with no character personality or development. The atmosphere is disgusting, not thrillingly spooky. And the oh-so-clever twist of the player being a part of the events of the game is neither all that original nor well implemented. While playing, I could practically see the designers of this game giving themselves undeserved pats on their backs for this trite, shallow story told through annoying gameplay. Clearly they thought they were being frightfully clever and witty. They weren't. Device 6 is nothing more than a typical room escape game with arbitrary puzzles, the only difference being that Device 6 has a mucked up interface. Why are so many people so misguided as to laud to the skies any game that breaks game design conventions? Entrenched game design conventions became entrenched game design conventions BECAUSE THEY WORK. Different is NOT the same as Good..Version: 1.2

Good interface and design but...I enjoyed the game/book interface. Innovative and stylish. However, it was far too simple and far too short. Developers must remember they are competing with the immortal Myst series. This doesn't even come close to the technicality, involvement and complexity that was Myst and Riven etc. I advise not wasting the money on Device 6. The concept was good but the execution was sorely lacking. Those that deem it brilliant must not have delved very far into the puzzle/adventure genre. Sorry, only half way there in almost every aspect. Thanks.Version: 1.1

I have no idea how to play this game!I have played all of the Rooms with no problem. I was looking fir something fun but this isn’t it. Waste of money..Version: 1.3

Too tricky! If you're a fan of cryptic puzzles this might be for you, but as a causal puzzler I found if far too perplexing, you really need the mind of a cryptic crossword solver (a pen and paper would help too) to get inside the head of the writer of this game, unable to do this I found I lost interest fairly quickly and wasn't a game I found myself eager to pick up again especially as you start back at the beginning of each chapter each time you exit. It's an interesting concept though, the screen turning to read different parts is novel if slightly tiresome after a while and the storyline is rather bizarre and quirky which may not appeal to everyone - not sure I liked being called a 'moron' either!.Version: 1.1

AvoidDon't waste your money..Version: 1.2

Like a good book you'll never get to finishThe concept is really clever and the execution even feels well polished. It's a neat experience. Too bad I've been stuck at the entrance to the lighthouse for several years now and I've pretty much given up hope, so it's a story about a person who gets caught up in a mysterious situation and then gets stranded. The end. Unfortunately the puzzle I'm at world require years of brute force cracking via a frustrating and noisy interface and even at that it yields nothing..Version: 1.1

Logic unto itselfI want my money and time back. I've played a lot of puzzle games and this one came highly recommended. From a narrative point of view it excels and it is an original concept but after playing through the first section I found the interface unintuitive and clumsy as you have to keep back tracking and rotating your phone. Needless to say it's overly convoluted, confusing and the clues are too cryptic or vague. There's a puzzle at the end of chapter 1 which has two key words that apparently substitute for "left" and "right" despite having no indication of direction whatsoever. Overall didn't enjoy and feel ripped off..Version: 1.1

No Sound = No FunVisually it looks fantastic but I cant get it to play with sound. Have downloaded twice and searched he notice board but can't find any advice on why the sound will not play. So a git of a waste of $6 I guess..Version: 1.2

Interesting but shortPros: love the graphics and storyline, and the puzzles are interesting. A really good game. Cons: really short for the price, took me about an hour to complete. Don't play it when you have a low battery as you'll have to turn your device to the side and upside down, not fun with a cord in the way. Would have given five stars if it was longer..Version: 1.0

Advice 6 (Waste of money)Really!!! How did Device 6 get good reviews? Did their staff write them? It's the worst game I've EVER attempted to play. It's amazing that you can't get a refund for something so rubbish.Version: 1.2

ConfusingThe game just didn't seem to keep me interested. The puzzles were more weird than complex, found the way of navigating the story more annoying than unique. It seems most other people liked it but definitely not my cup of tea.Version: 1.1

Crashes on openingLooking forward to trying this after enjoying Year Walk but freezes on the title screen. (iPad Pro, iOS 10.3.3). Happy to re-rate when it's fixed. Thanks for the response guys, works on the device but not with screen zoom enabled unfortunately..Version: 1.3

No senseThe puzzles in this game make no sense and there are no clues to help..Version: 1.4

No sound???I am playing/reading this on an iPhone 7 with the latest software, with perfectly working speakers, and there is absolutely no sound!!! Which seems like an important part of the game according to the other reviews, so I can't really play this until the sound works, I've tried deleting and redownloading it, but that didn't fix the problem, it seems like such a good game but without sound I'm pretty sure it loses its effect/completability, so for now I hope 🤞, I can't play it 😢.Version: 1.2

Not bad, but too easy and shortI downloaded this yesterday afternoon when I had a bit of time to kill, swayed by reading a bunch of positive reviews. It's slick and engaging, but it's pretty easy and it frankly didn't keep me occupied for very long, with a lot of the clues a little too obvious. I personally preferred 'The Room' to this, but that was a spectacular game. Download it if your looking for a short challenge that's got a unique style, but don't expect it to beat back holiday boredom for anything more than an hour or two max..Version: 1.1

Not for the imaginative thinker. This is not for imaginative or surreal thinkers or people who question and think outside the box. It’s intensely logical and very literal. You’ll need the same “mindset” as the developer. For example, I couldn’t even scroll in the right direction. If an arrow says ⏏️, I draw my finger in that direction. But actually it meant draw finger down because it’s the information that’s in the upwards direction. I tested this simple movement on a few friends and the logical (and younger) ones all scrolled in the correct direction and my artistic (and older friends) went the “wrong way”. Also, if at any point you try to connect info from puzzles in different levels, don’t, there is no connection even though the story leads your to believe there probably are connections. You could do the whole thing, from a puzzle point of view, in whatever order you wanted. Despite that, I enjoyed trying but I think I tried to make it too hard!.Version: 1.4

Good concept that's about itGood concept but it's just an interactive book..Version: 1.2

Very original but lacked closureI agree with all the reviews I read, good and bad. I think this is either your kind of game or it isn't. It's cutting edge and artistic, like an interactive short story. It has the creepy factor for sure and felt like a weird nightmare I was glad I could just switch off. However, the ending wasn't very satisfying for me, probably because I didn't get it, and lacked any real explanation. I know the multi directional text was all a part of the effect, but I was annoyed by having to constantly turn my device. It was particularly irritating when backing up to analyze clues to the puzzles. I had to cheat a lot to get through it, but I took solace in the fact that I was usually on the right track. I can't say I liked it, but I think it was just not my thing, not any fault of the game itself..Version: 1.1

No fun at allThe puzzles are ridiculously obtuse and make no sense even with a walk through. Even reading the text is annoying because you have to turn the device round too often - yes, it's a funny gimmick, but it's not that funny..Version: 1.2

Definitely not game of the yearThe game is ok but as mentioned - there are maybe 5 puzzles so very short (2 hours or so). For the money - I expected 10-12 hours. Heavy rain is an interactive masterpiece - this is just a basic puzzler..Version: 1.1

IdentificationI don't know what to give it due to the fact that the identification process is not completing, one time I even kept camera looking at me for more than 20 minutes, I went to settings camera is on and activated for the game. Huge mega waste of time..Version: 1.2

Depressing/Unnecessary EndingThe ending to this game I found not only off-putting, but quite depressing/upsetting (particularly as you are conditioned to progress through the game in a first person mindset). All my high held opinions of this game's fantastic, innovative gameplay and artwork were abruptly shattered by the very end scene; It seemed unnecessary and maybe someone could shed some light on any purpose or symbolism behind this? However I have quickly learnt that I am not the only one that feels this way - I would like to particularly urge caution towards parents, and/or those prone to depression!.Version: 1.1

Too much reading not enough funI've never reviewed an app before but I had to write this because it's just not worth the money. The graphics and sound are truly elegant and outstanding, the concept is interesting, but the game itself is trivial. I found myself skimming the text to get to the next interactive section- which are very few and far between- only to be underwhelmed again and again by how un-challenging the puzzles were. Played to the end hoping to feel like I got my four dollars worth... Which I did not. If you like a game that is 10% interactive gameplay and 90% reading scifi/suspense this is the $4 game for you!.Version: 1.2

Device 6This game is very interesting, but very hard! I had to use online walkthroughs because it was so confusing! The only chapter that I managed to finish by myself was Chapter 2, my favourite chapter. The story was interesting, the puzzles only made sense occasionally, and the ending didn't make any sense at all! This is a very odd and unusual game, but if you are up for it, then it is definitely something you'd find to enjoy..Version: 1.1

DaftGood looking ‘game’ if that’s what it is? But absolutely nonsensical. A real disappointment and a waste of money..Version: 1.3

My uncensored reviewThe puzzles in this game are too few and too far between and, worse that that, they are too cryptic by far. There is no help for you when you get impossibly stuck (which WILL happen). It is a not very good story told in an impenetrable format. I cannot say anything other than “don’t waste your time or money!”. My first review of this app was censored because I described this game as “stupid”. So I wonder if this will be censored as well?.Version: 1.5

Too expensive for the amount of gameplayThe game is beautifully designed, and the puzzles were fun and challenging, and then... it ends. I almost never download apps that aren’t free, but took a chance on this one because it came so highly recommended. I never would have paid so much for this one if I’d known I would finish the whole game in about an hour and then never play it again. I’m sure it’s exactly the same the second time through, so there’s no replay value either..Version: 1.3

Up it's own bottom.Admittedly the game itself has a reasonably unique premise, good atmosphere aided by it's sound track. But ... want to get straight to playing the game - tough. You have to watch the credits (before play, not after completion). Want to rotate the screen so that the headphone jack is on the left, tough, no dice. Small things like this where the developers treat the players with distain really annoy me and so can't recommend the game on this basis. Even "A dark room" where you'd have though the devs believed they'd written something as culturally important as the next dante's inferno let you play the game before trying to stuff all their pretentious B.S. about the game's development down the player throat..Version: 1.2

YeahIs ok.Version: 1.1

Too difficultThis game is clever and creative but is inconsistent in its presentation. Story elements are too light at first and don't pay off properly. The games various puzzles vary from easy to perfectly enticing to too difficult for my personal tastes. The game looks wonderful although it begins to all feel the same by the end. Some mechanics are interesting while others simply feel like mediocre gimmicks. The Device 6 is an okay puzzle game but it is far from greatness..Version: 1.1

App size totally wrong.Shows only 140MB's, app is actually 770MB. Kind of a big deal..Version: 1.1

ShortDesign is nice but the puzzles are too easy and the game only has 6 levels. Not value for money..Version: 1.3

Very short game play, only able to play onceWhilst the concept for this game is original and initially interesting it only has 6 chapters which do not take long to go through. The multi directional game play gives you a false impression that the storyline may take different directions but alas it is only a linear story with a few easy to moderately difficult puzzles. This makes the game unplayable after completion..Version: 1.1

Less than expectedHaving read reviews on Device 6 I was expecting a solid engrossing puzzle game. Really it's a slightly interactive and very short book, with only 5 puzzles. Despite the presentation and polish and overall inventiveness, bang for buck it just isn't enough..Version: 1.1

Confusing and pointlessThis is an adventure book, where you solve a few riddles. The riddles are not overly difficult but fun to get to grips with. The story though is not very gripping. I was expecting so much more from the description..Version: 1.2

A story not a gameVery disappointed. After 10 minutes all is done is read. Maybe it's too cryptic for me but I felt completely ripped off..Version: 1.2

I wouldn't recommend thisI love interactive puzzles/stories but this game just failed to amazed me. There is no story, just some puzzles thrown together to make the game look smart and creative. The idea is good but it was just put together so poorly, and doesn't keep readers hooked.Version: 1.2

DisappointingThe concept, art, and music were interesting and original, (which is why it’s getting two stars instead of one,) but the game's execution was lacking. The plot was superficial and basic at best, and there was no emotional investment in the protagonist, Anna. Shouldn’t we care about what happens to her? By the end, I was bored and just wanted it to be over. Some puzzles were easy and some were so obscure that I had to look up solutions. It took the better part of a day to beat, but unfortunately has no replay value unless they release more chapters (but it’s highly unlikely given the ending). To be honest, I expected a better game from all the rave reviews. Is this what passes as “genius” these days?.Version: 1.3

Why did I waste 5 dollars? This game is so confusing. I was given no directions on how to play and the just started me off reading. Makes no sense to me. Also it has to be played WITH sound turned on so if u want to play it in a quiet room like the library or at school, you have to put earbuds on. For 5 dollars this game is a no go. I am a teenager and don’t understand how to play so just throwing that out there. I’m pretty sure all you do is read so if ur into that stuff I guess this game would be good for you. I don’t really like to play games that 1. Start me off w/out directions and 2. I have to read with sound on. I know it doesn’t make sense to read with your sound on. But whatever here is an honest review for this game..Version: 1.2

$4 for only 6 puzzles? The developers of this app have mislabeled it. This was a novel with a minimal number of puzzles in it. The biggest "game" in the whole thing is the constant turning and twisting of your device to read the text. I found that particular feature to be especially gimmicky. The story line also leaves much to be desired. I'm a voracious reader, so I would have been okay with following the novella if it were actually interesting. I found this storyline to be rather lame, eventually just Googling the plot because the tedium of the app just wasn't worth the trouble. When I specifically shop for a GAME app, I want to actually PLAY stuff. Not read through some labyrinth of text for only one rudimentary puzzle and a "survey" at the end of each level. I essentially paid $4 for 6 puzzles and a bunch of reading. This should be marketed as an interactive novel, not a game app..Version: 1.2

Not really much of a gameIt’s certainly stylish and well produced, but it’s not really much of a game in the end. There are only five actual puzzles to solve (there is no puzzle in the sixth chapter), and those range from “extremely simple” to “somewhat clever but annoying to navigate”. That’s the key here: the navigation consists of a huge amount of scrolling through text in all four directions, backwards and upside down, laid out by a design school dropout. An intelligent person can easily solve the five puzzles in less than hour, but that’s drawn out to two or even three hours by all of the scrolling and backtracking. It’s better to think of this “game” as a piece of interactive fiction or modern art — essentially “The Prisoner” meets “Alice in Wonderland” — and then let yourself experience it as such..Version: 1.3

Player 249I'm upto chapter 4... I surely wouldn't have got past chapter 1 without walk through , though at least walkthrough existed. Ch2 was less frustrating. The price is surely a rip off . I wouldn't recommend playing this game at night if ur easily spooked , it's not a scary game though when buttons are pushed etc u maybe startled a little or a lot . At the end of chapters were asked for feedback , it's very cheeky of the developer/s to force 100% at the end of Ch3... I hope the 100 points that are given at each chapter ending aren't entirely useless Only half way through , have yet to see how a girl waking up in a lighthouse in the middle of nowhere , without any idea how she got there, has a point... Overall , very disappointing..Version: 1.1

Is something wrong?I cannot get past the first chapter ..."She pulled the handle... Locked." I'll change my rating as soon as I'm told how to fix it - great game!.Version: 1.3
