✓ ❤️Best of the best!! I’ve read 75% of the COG/ HG library, and this series is by far my favorite. The writing is so engagingly well done, that I refused to put down my iPad until i noticed the sunrise in my window. Your accrued stats actually matter, and have a barring on the outcome/results of your choices. The characters have amazing depth which causes the reader to get emotionally attaches and invested in them. So excited for the next installment! Buy this!!.Version: 1.0.5

✓ Beyond IncredibleOriginally didn't think I'd end up buying this because I haven't been impressed by many interactive novels but NOT buying it was absolutely not an option after the free chapter....that was some of the best two hours of my life. I love everything about it. The story and characters have me as hooked as any big name movie or novel series. ✓ Love this COG butBut there was a few issues at first when you lose yourself I thought that was forever so I made some choices I wish I hadn't. And how it ended I was hoping to actually defeat all of the spirits and be done with it but how the story ends abruptly is taunting me. ✓ Fantastic story and choices!I’m very late to the party but I hope it’s still going. I can count the number of times I’ve written a review on an app on one hand, because most of the time I don’t care. But with this game I just had to. I’m writing a review on this game but it encompasses every other book (spoiler-free!). One thing I really appreciate about this story was that it was easy to read. As in, I understood everything that was going on (though understanding Japanese terms certainly helps) and even though you guys had the choice to make the reader wait until they could read the next couple of chapters (ex.: like how some story-based games require “keys” and you can only access a number of chapters until you have to wait literal hours for your keys to refill or pay money to refill it instantly), you didn’t. Although SoH is worth all the money, I really appreciate how you guys didn’t do this, as it would have definitely discouraged me and other readers from continuing. Second, the writing. It’s wonderful! It’s hilarious at times and I actually find myself laughing where laughing is due. I think the characters are intricately written and I genuinely care about what happens to them and where their story goes. Don’t even get me started on the choices! The choices in this game are difficult, but in a good way (?) — at least to me. I try to increase my attunement whenever I can and I find that the choices are very realistic and actually hard, as real-life choices usually are. By the time of this review’s publishing, I will be almost halfway through Book 2. I will hopefully be buying the rest, as well! ✓ Review (may contain spoilers—read at own risk)I have to say, the cover is what attracted me first, and the summary is not too bad. Though reading the 2 reviews for this, made me rather skeptic if it was going to be good or not. Colour me surprise then, when I got completely hooked with the story. The main character's personality completely makes sense based on his background/past and how the plot progresses. Each character is memorable in their own way, and I actually didn't forget who was what like in some choice of games where I rarely cared for the extras. I greatly enjoyed book 1, and look forward to book 2. I was so captivated that I played it twice. One with all the honesty I can muster, and the second for fun. In which, I have to say, I really like the interaction between the main character and Masashi. In fact, I actually wish that there would be more opportunities where Masashi would show more of his manly side just like near the end of the book where the character went into the spirit/dream world. I played as a male interested in males, so I hoped there could more scenes with that (perverted) sensual/sexual tension between the two. Hoping for a sex scene or something close to it (implied) in fact, since this is rated mature, and even has a warning about the mature content before the story begins. Their dynamic is really touching as well, in comparison to the ones with Toshio. In which, I am a bit conflicted on how to feel about him. He has his moments, but it feels detached. There were not enough moments with Toshio that would make me want to be romantically involved with him. He's interesting at best, but not more for me at least. Lastly, the plot twist and/or cliffhanger in the end got me at the edge of my seat. I hope that won't be the end of my charge in all honesty. ✓ Pretty cool protagonist (esp if you play female) and interesting plotI love the protagonist of this game and the many ways on can influence and follow through with their personality. I chose the more typical stoic protective samurai and it was awesome. My heroine's personality reminded me a lot of those hardboiled loner detectives, tough and smart and blunt. A lot of media doesn't let me play a female character like this, so I greatly appreciate this game for giving me the option. I very interested in how some character relationships are going to go and the plot is far from over. I hope we can see more sometime soon. The only thing that knocked it down from a 5 star to a 4 star is the unneeded use of simple random Japanese. While I understand it, it breaks the flow of the story and limits the game's audience. Some people will be put off encountering it in the story. My suggestion to the creator is that they eliminate most of it, save for the family names bit. (The fact that many cultures introduce their last name and then first is pretty commonly known after all, and I feel that adds more so to the world of the game rather than taking away from the story, in comparison to the random foreign words some people won't understand).Version: 1.0.1
✓ Great Game (where's the rest?)This was another fine and memorable tale (or section thereof) as are most that Choice Of LLC puts out. However I can't help but feel a bit gyped at the brevity of it. "End of Book One"? I paid $4 for a section of the actual thing? If you guys do continue this, keep the next book in this series free, or at .99 cents, because $4 is a bit much when you only get a small portion of the story promised. ✓ EHA fun and entertaining interactive fiction story that appears to be the first part in a series. It has an anime-esque feel to it and interjects Japanese words here and there. Sometimes choices lead the to a blank screen and forces me to restart and avoid choosing options that will lead to this error. ✓ Great start to a dark, intriguing seriesTo start off this review, I'll say that this game is pretty dark. One of the options at the very start of it all involves you having to kill a sacred koi for food (literally, you can't play the game unless you do that), and the story can get even more grim as it continues forward. Despite this, I think it's a great story filled with intrigue, sword fights, demons, and a cast of fun, if rather stereotypical characters. Some of the events in this story will feel familiar, like from Rurouni Kenshin or other samurai stories, but that won't take away from its charm. The only possible issue is that the ending leaves you on a huge cliffhanger that will probably leave you reeling, but hopefully the sequel will help with that..Version: 1.0.1
✓ Don't Even Know Where to StartI am totally loving this. I have never played this type of game before. I am currently obsessing over Rurouni Kenshin, but there is no game specific to that, so I searched samurai games instead and found this. Funny thing is, there are certain characters who remind me of... Anyway, I've played through twice now, creating two different characters each time. I'm slightly frustrated with being told I'm not attuning right with certain decisions which I think fit. Then there are certain references which I just don't understand. Also, I WANTED to create a completely brutal character just to see how it played out, but it still kind of leads you back to being at least semi-good (and if you let your character follow his/her sensei's training, you have "forgotten yourself." Bah humbug. Anyway, at least one reviewer commented on technical difficulties. I have had no problems playing on an iPad 2 mini. To the potential buyers out there, enjoy. To the developer(s), please add more to the story!!! (And consider hiring a proofreader...I volunteer.) ;-).Version: 1.0.2

Overall the writing and attention to detail was well done, and you get a good sense of what the writer was trying to depict. The story is interesting, and keeps you on your toes. However, I didn't enjoy the random splashes of Japanese jargon. It ruined the immersion for me and just sounded weaboo-ish. I was shocked to find out that this writer is the same one who wrote Fatehaven, which is one of my all time favorite cog. It seemed Iike a completely different writing style. ✓ A REALLY great gameA really damn good 'Choice Of' game. It takes an interesting route that I haven't really seen explored in other games of this nature: you're character DOES have a pre-determined backstory, but not only are you given a lot of lee-way on what that entails, but this is actually used to great effect to enhance the story. By far it's strongest feature is it's wide range of likeable characters, who take centre stage for the story. It doesn't take long to grow attached to the loveable misfits. There are a few minor issues: stats relative to one or two choices aren't always 100% clear. However, these are minor concerns that don't diminish the game's overall appeal..Version: 1.0.1
