Lifeline: Flatline for Negative User Reviews

Good game but....Like like Lifeline but this game was is ridiculously slow. It takes Wynn so much time to do anything and everything. Wynn spends half the game sleeping. And when she’s not sleeping takes 10 minutes to walk across a room and still nothing really happens. It would have worked a little better if Wynn walked you through what she was doing but instead it’s “wait, I have to do something mundane. See you tomorrow.” When she finally does get back to you she tells you she has to sleep and this may take a while. I almost felt like the person who wrote this intentionally wanted to annoy people. Very disappointed in this game..Version: 1.0.2

Life lineSorry this is a waste of money and time ....totally stupid.Version: 1.0.1

DisappointedThe disjointed play is aggravating. I get that the character has to sleep, but making the player wait so long is ridiculous. At the beginning, it seems like any logical answer of holding back and opting for safe behavior will work fine, but at a certain point, after several multi-hour sleep cycles, you get stuck in an all-the-sudden no-win situation with absolutely no apparent clue where you screwed up. Then, you have to start all over and wait every time Wynn wants to sleep. Very frustrating and aggravating game play. It's like reading the old "Twist-a-plot" books a million times until you figure out the magic key. Zero adaptive play. The music...it's interesting for about 5 minutes, but the dramatic crescendos don't match the intensity of the activity going on in the game dialog. I turned it off pretty quickly. If I could make one recommendation to the game creator...download the old Infocom text based games and play them. You will learn a lot from that experience..Version: 1.0.2

I like the plot, but the app doesn't work well sometimesThe story is fascinating. New horror theme instead of space adventure in the past several games. The only problem with this is that wynn is so slow and need to wait after each choice. The app doesn't work sometimes. There is no text on the screen and you need to close it from the background and restart to resume..Version: 1.0.2

Great story..............LOOOOOONG PAUSESI’m really enjoying the story; however, the pauses between are way too long. I’ve been playing this game for weeks and, looking back at the dialogue, this is something that could have been read in a day. I’m thinking of deleting it without finishing. When my iPad has waited long enough to time out multiple times during active play sections, this is poorly designed timing. It almost feels like we’re the experiment, just to see if people have the patience to finish the game..Version: 1.0.2

Why?I can’t go back and retry a decision? Besides waiting every time you finish talking to Wynn, for like hours? Not great, also starting from scratch every time is really annoying and long, and there is no fast mode, but good story and situation.Version: 1.0.2

Constantly restarting without dying/finishingI have been attempting to play this for over a year but, without dying, the game keeps restarting with no way for me to skip ahead to where I was the night before. I can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days (real time) into the game and it will suddenly say “QComm Disabled” in the middle of other dialogue. The previous hours/days of dialogue are still visible and I can even scroll back through it to the beginning but there is nothing I can do about it. I have deleted and reinstalled the game several times over the last year or so because this is the only Lifeline game I haven’t yet completed but I am finished making the effort..Version: 1.0.2

Tired of constantly Awaiting TransmissionI am a huge fan of the Lifeline interactive stories. But this one has (almost) annoyed me to the point of deleting the app before finishing. The reason is the constant long pauses in dialogue, all of which happen while the words "AWAITING TRANSMISSION" are shown. This causes the story to take far longer than any of the other Lifeline apps (I've played them all). The timing is so frustrating; just when I'm sick of staring at the screen and decide to move on to life IRL or another app I get a notification that the character needs me. Also, there's an annoying bug where I get a notification badge AFTER I exit the app, when no notification has actually occurred; but rarely is there a badge after a notification actually happened. I expect far better from these devs..Version: 1.0.2

FrustratingAs much as I wanted to love this I just couldn’t get into it and not because the story wasn’t good but because of the amount of pauses that literally happened every 2 mins .. to the point where I wanted to just delete it because the second I started to get into the story I was once again having to wait while she did something and it wasn’t like a few mins .. sometimes it was m, but more often than not it was an hour or more . Real time games just aren’t my thing and I wish the devs would have made it optional , like they did with the other lifeline games, or the few that I’ve played . With all this being said , I still really enjoyed the character but felt like there wasn’t anything that had me feeling attached to her . I still think you should give their games a try though.Version: 1.0.2

Okay but annoyingIt's nice to have choices, but this Lifeline game has so many it takes the suspense out of everything. If I have to wait 1-2 minutes every time I choose something to do it just takes the fun out of it. The other Lifeline games give you a bit of story before choosing something else so it's engaging, but this game is like "turn the corner?" Or "wait and listen?" A bunch of times. It gets pretty tedious pretty fast. The protagonist doesn't seem too interesting either and I've been playing this game for a few days now. Check out the other Lifeline games. They are much better than this one..Version: 1.0.2

Complete waste of money.First, let me say that I have other games in this series, so I am very used to the format of having to wait at times to continue the story. However, this particular game has constant waiting periods. Literally you get to read a few lines, then you wait. I few more lines, then you wait. It is a constant process of hurry up and wait. Just terrible design. Do yourself a favor and save your money..Version: 1.0.2

MehAfter playing Taylor’s three adventures this one is kind of a let down. The main character is quite unlikable and it doesn’t always follow your choices so it seems like the story is taking you where it wants instead of you choosing the path. The story is interesting but since the character annoys the heck out of you, you find yourself ignoring it..Version: 1.0.2

SHORTGood story and idea but not worth the purchase, it takes 5mim to complete story!!!.Version: 1.0.2

So many stops and I like to see everything I am going to sayI don’t wanna wait 5 minutes for her to open a door, feels like I’m playing resident evil 1, stuff doesn’t do what you mean. (Lifeline is amazing and one of my all time favorite games in the whole world but this just isn’t it).Version: 1.0.2

No Fast Mode, constant pauses! So, I got about halfway through this game, then I had to start over due to the game being deleted. In every other Lifeline game out there, "Fast Mode" is an option so you don't have to wait in between transmissions with your character. There is no Fast Mode in Flatline. So I had to trudge through the game at the same, slow pace again, already knowing what happens. Which brings me to my next complaint: sometimes you get a SINGLE sentence from Wynn, and then you have to wait five minutes for the next transition. The gameplay is too short in terms of actual communication vs "Awaiting Transmission." Wynn is not a very likable lady, either. She's kind of a snot. Taylor was awesome and so was Adams, but the two female-lead Lifeline games have mean, snarky women you interact with, which makes me think they don't have any women writers for the women characters. The story kind of lacks direction too. There is a vague goal of "find my sister scientist" in there, but so far, it's mostly Wynn wandering around a bit aimlessly. I'm still going to finish it, but I'm glad it was pretty cheap as an App Store game..Version: 1.0.2

To many waiting periods. It seems you were "waiting for transmissions" every 4-5 lines. Basiclly, you read a short paragraph, answer then wait a minute or two for another few lines. Its absasive. I played white out first and it was amazing. Waiting periods were short and the story was interesting. Another priblem i had as it didnt tell you what the options were. For example you may have chosen "step back, now." While it was interpeted as me teling wynn to be safe, we had a paragraph of her scolding me for yelling. Overall really hard to play. Dissapointed, the story sounded interesting..Version: 1.0.2

The Weak one of the bunchPlot is adequate, but Wynn is so whiny it gets to the stage where you don't really care if he lives or dies....Version: 1.0.2

HallwaysYou have three choices: Hallway A, B or C. All choices lead to death. That's it. That's the whole game. Edit: People on the internet "No, don't you know? There's a secret hallway at the start, but you have to slay Smaug, defeat Voldemort, convince Darth Vader to come to the light side, who'll give you a secret code to a secret door. Then that secret door takes you to another secret door, where you'll come across two hobbits. Well kill those two, take the ring and use the invisibility to get past the apes. Then you'll get past the three hallways of death. It's obvious".Version: 1.0.2

Enjoying it so far, but...Another interesting lifeline story. I'm only part of the way through it, but I already have a few criticisms that can lead to frustration. I'm finding it very difficult to stay engaged in the story when the game makes me wait 5 mins after every single time I tell the protagonist to do something. I'd prefer it to be like the other lifeline games, where Taylor could do things while talking to you, and not make you wait five minutes for him/her to open a door. My second criticism is not giving us the full answer when we are given choices between responses. It makes it hard to decide what I want to say to Wynn when I don't even completely know what I'm going to say. Fix these issues and this game easily gets 5 stars from me..Version: 1.0.2

Waste of time!Baaad game! No option to go back and make new decision and must start from beginning all over again everytime .. Don't waste your time with this you'll lose interest really quick once reading and waiting the same things over and over again .. White out was great! Had option to go back to bad decision!.Version: 1.0.2

Choices don’t seem like choices at all..What’s the difference between ‘go slowly’ and ‘be careful’? Nothing. Don’t get me wrong. The storylines and characters are very interesting and compelling. But the decision trees should really branch out more rather then funnel you basically down the same path regardless of what you choose. Minor annoyance. A gender discussion was confusing when the main character doesn’t know whether you’re a man or woman. It’s a little strange since you can enter your name which can almost guarantee your gender 90% of the time. Threw me out of the story..Version: 1.0.2

BoringVery boring don't see the point of this just sat watching writing yawn yawn yawn am going to delete pity I paid for this rubbish.Version: 1.0.1

A waste of timeThe main character falls asleep very often in the game, even he hasn't done much in the game. Made me wait at least several hours until he woke up. The choice made in the game also don't lead to a a big difference..Version: 1.0.1

Off puttingThe protagonist Wynn flips between trust and suspicion making it a frustrating read. I found myself trying to keep Wynn safe until she refused to share any info with me which prompted me to push her in to dangerous situations to get anything done. It broke me out of the fantasy because I can be trusted with making life/death decisions for her but when I ask what is in a patient file she refuses to tell me anything but immediately asks for help figuring out where to go next. She constantly reminds you that she doesn’t trust the player. I stopped playing at that point because I no longer cared about the character. David Justus’ work clearly outshines this one when it comes to character building and the bond and trust developed between the player and fictional character. The older games put a better emphasis on cooperation and trust between the protagonist and player..Version: 1.0.2

Ok but slowThe game has a good concept but the play is interrupted by too many and too long pauses which break the experience. The early part is especially slow..Version: 1.0.2

I love the lifeline series, BUT...This game keeps crashing on me. I'm waiting for a reply to one of my answers but nothing happens. I have to close down and re-open the app for it to start working again. Please fix! The other lifeline games have been flawless. EDIT: now it seems to have started the story from the beginning, even though I am mid way through! So frustrating.Version: 1.0.2

Needs improvement for IPhonesLove the game itself, it has a great storyline, but I highly suggest you improve settings for IPhone 7. You can turn off sound and music and see credits and such, but there is no option for chapter rewind or fast mode. This option is available for iPads though. I'm not sure if this problem is present with other models or devices, but I think it will greatly improve the experience if these options are added..Version: 1.0.2

Not my favoriteHonestly, this is the worst one for me in the series. It’s really boring waiting for her to do things. And even once she does and you get to fast forward, it’s still annoying because you pretty much trapped and don’t know which option to choose lol. I haven’t given up on it yet. I’m gonna keep trying, but i def don’t enjoy it as I did the others..Version: 1.0.2

Not too badSPOILERS Having played all of the lifeline games, I found this one to be the most disappointing. It wasn't a bad game at all, but there were a couple of things that I wasn't a big fan of. I understand this was more of a horror style game, but it felt like half the decisions I was making were either telling Wynn to "calm down" or to "be careful" when looking behind a door or something. Annoyingly, it didn't feel as though these decisions had any real impact on the game and were there to add to its playtime. However, the fact that you had to rile Wynn up when she was trapped in the cage, in contrast to calming her down, was admittedly clever. The setting was also a bit dull, but not too bad. The shining light of this game was the plot. It worked brilliantly into the overall series storyline and added to my understanding of the other games too. Again, this was not a bad game by any means, but in my opinion was a little less impressive than others in the series..Version: 1.0.2

I don't like WynnI love all characters in lifeline series, Taylor, Adams, and Alex. But I don't like Wynn. It seems that she doesn't need me at all. I mean she did say something like "better than nothing", but she is not grateful at all! I tried my best just to make her feel better, but she was always like "Shut up I know what to do". Then why do I get the options to talk to her? Moreover, changing the past options doesn't change her pulse sometimes. Looks like a bug but I don't know exactly cause I didn't want to explore the story since the character was annoying. I didn't feel as bad as I was when I failed in other games of the series when I "killed" Wynn. I will not purchase another game of Wynn. And btw, I LOVE Adams. Please bring him back sooner!!!!.Version: 1.0.2

Sooooooooo SlooooooooowI'm a fan of Lifeline & I have purchased every single game. This is the lowest rating that I've ever given to one, & it is because of the constant pauses. I usually enjoy the format & I don't mind waits. But I like a bit of action, & this time around there is oh, 5-10 seconds of reading between the character needing a 5 minute break. I'll be back for the next Lifeline game because this is the first time that I've encountered this, but I'm not sure that I'll even finish this one..Version: 1.0.2

Black screenThe day after I bought it, I get a completely black screen. What's app doc?.Version: 1.0.2
