Lifeline: Whiteout for Negative User Reviews

Meh, has potential, but needs work!!!I really liked this game.... I mean, it drags like rupaul's show, but it's entertaining. I took me forever to complete it because I couldn't be bothered. The reading investment wasn't worth the payoff. Adams was busy way too much and fir way too long. Whenever he came back he had tons of useless chitchat and back story. You had to read all of it only to make weird, arbitrary decisions that made him go away for long periods of time only to repeat the cycle. Ugh. Some choices just made no sense and the story was pretty boring right up until he met Adam 4. I got him killed accidentally twice and rewound the story both times and the third time he made it out alive. Truly, I did experience a tinge of dread only at the end when he finds a vehicle and escapes ... I was like, "omg... he's gonna end up right back where he started on the lake like he's reliving his last moments over and over!" Thank goodness that wasn't it. I liked the ending, mainly because it was finally over. Dear Lord, it took long to get to "the end." I think there could be much more interaction from the reader. Too much hurry up and wait. This is not the kind of game for me although I can see how it appeals to some. I played it. I enjoyed it. I've no need or desire to indulge again..Version: 1.0.4

Great Game! Not quite as good as the original..Version: 1.0.4

BoringDo not buy this game it is boring. Based on a dialogue all you do is select 1 of 2 answers as the conversation continues. Each selection guides the story. Do not waste your money..Version: 1.0.2

I tried it on my Wach and it didn’t workI don’t know why but It kept saying play on your phone to continue on my Wach. maybe I had to wait but it was also incredibly boring and there was just this man who was having issues and you only got two answers for it. Very boring would not recommend..Version: 1.0.4

Don't Bother...Uhggg.... got it while it was free, didn't expect much after playing the first one and it still managed to disappoint! Encountered a glitch quite early on and couldn't progress further so the only thing that I bothered is to delete and write this review. Have you tried the Martian or Komrad?? Same style and more enjoyable, played the last one numerous times before deleting. Don't bother with Lifeline series... tried it twice, rated both 1 star..Version: 1.0.4

For younger audiences, story mediocre at bestI must give credit to the devs for a very innovative game, it certainly provides a level of immersion. However the story isn't incredibly interesting, has more than a few cliches, as well as several random and ridiculous moments that make no sense. As well as this, many choices you make have absolutely no effect in the course of the story and are simply fillers, which feels a little cheap. Though this game is polished, it just isn't that great of a narrative. But I can see the potential of these series', and I know how amazing choose your adventure type games/books can be, so I strongly encourage the developers to up their writing skills or hire a professional writer. I recommend this to people of younger ages, 8-12..Version: 1.0.4

Fun, addictive, but story is too odd and unbelievableHe game is fun and the way the story is presented is fairly addictive (aside from waiting half hour or more in between conversations). Since this game is basically DOS text based story game it leaves a lot to be desired. DOS text games were fairly robust as hey had professional creative writers working on the story. This game does not have a professional writer (or at least an experienced one), which makes the story theme progress prematurely. The main theme could work if there was more content (choices in game). The game is so short that I finished it within two days (not checking the game very often, as I was playing the other 10 games on my iPhone). Theses games can be so much better if they get real writers that can engage the audience more appropriately. The story reminds me of a 16 year olds creative writing final project. Short, uncreative, convo like sentences with almost zero creative descriptions of surroundings. It's kind of like reading captions for a kids show without the sound on. Try it out since it is free, but don't expect to much even though there are like 5 games by this dev and none seem to have better writing..Version: 1.0.4

Good game, but let down by the advertisingWhile this is a great game I feel that it's let down by the self promotion whenever I end up in the apps settings. I get that you want to let people know about your other apps but there are better ways than pushing it in front of them each time they go in to Settings..Version: 1.0.4

Different, Kinda Fun, but...This is my first time experiencing one of these games since DOS text-based games in the 90s. I didn't really know what to expect but it had good reviews and was free. The concept is fun and there is something nice about being limited to only a couple minutes of "game play" every half hour or so (longer if you don't have time/desire to check). I guess my overwhelming issue is the concept is so bizarre: So there's this guy with amnesia who calls me from the middle of snowy nowhere and with no supplies, he witnesses a helicopter go down in a blaze of glory, and he's listening to every command I give him... meanwhile I'm sitting here not calling the FBI so they can help triangulate him or identify where a helicopter just crashed?! I don't know if I'm currently 5% or 99% of the way through the story but I'm trying to get him killed at every turn and he's got food, fire, and shelter... I'm going to see it out out of curiosity and will adjust rating then..Version: 1.0.4

Good but shortThere's only one potential storyline and every choice you make will eventually get you back to the single storyline. It feels like you have a lot of choice but it's a bit of an illusion really, especially when the character in the story sometimes ignores what you say to get back to the storyline. As it's free it's worth a go certainly, and it is entertaining and you want the character to hurry up and respond which shows it is engaging. Just short and restricted..Version: 1.0.4

Engaging storyline but aggravating speed of playI'm only a short way into this game. It seems to have an engaging storyline, but it takes forever to progress. You make a 50/50 decision in what the protagonist does next. Usually it's fairly obvious what the best course be and usually Adams objects if he thinks you've made the wrong one. Then you wait... and wait..... and wait.... Or like me you go do something else then the game spams you with notification. I have limited space on my iPad and this will be deleted shortly. There are better things to do TBH. But for people who like this sort of thing it seems well made although very basic..Version: 1.0.4

GlitchGreat game except for the glitch, I’m waiting for more info and it’s been doing the same “typing”/waiting for him to speak. Quite annoyed.Version: 1.0.4

Not as good as the others - plus bugs!I love the Lifeline series, but I've had to download this twice, and both times I've had issues where the story won't advance and the game gets stuck. Once where Adams is stuck in a 'typing' animation, and the second time I got a day in, and the story stopped progressing. I was getting notifications to say I'd received a message from Adams, it when entering the app, nothing. As infinitum. Deleted and won't be wasting more time on it - shame..Version: 1.0.4

Should have made it more realisticThe game really hit the spot at the beginning really felt the feeling of dread and isolation... shouldn't have jumped to science fiction element. Think of the movie - the thing, or Whiteout (movie) the whole idea of isolation in Antarctica and trying to survive, would have been enough... you simply ruined it towards the middle....Version: 1.0.4

It's okToo easy, decisions are almost signposted to help you make the right choice. Storyline a little simple, moral choices and choices to do with safety are a bit simplified. A good start but needs a lot more fleshing out to make it worth more stars. Glad it was free, it was worth playing but I wouldn't pay for it..Version: 1.0.4

Good conceptI like the idea but the game hung up after 15 minutes. Restarted, Turned phone off and on again, she’s done!.Version: 1.0.4

OK, but disappointing after the othersHaving played the entire series of Lifeline games, this fell a little short of the standard. Adams is a bit of a complainer and it feels like every choice you make is the wrong one. 'Should I move on?', 'yes', 'oh but there's a storm', 'OK, so go back', 'yeah but then we'll not get to whatever it is over there'. In fact the main character's 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' attitude made it difficult to care much at all about him..Version: 1.0.4

Interesting but very, very short.Okay so let me start by stating that I am older than 20 which may have altered the way I viewed this game. Okay so to start with it was semi interesting but at times was very slow and the choices that you are given often felt like they were meaningless and that Adams would arrive at the same outcome no matter what choice I made. I can think of only a few choices that really made a difference. At times the two choices are not really even different or they are so vastly different without one that's reasonable which was also annoying. Another lame part was that I thought there were clues in what Adams was telling me but that was just me thinking that the game was going to be better than it was apparently because nothing he says really matters as far as using it to help you down the line in figuring out what the story is or how to help. My biggest problem with the game though was that it was so short. It took me a day to complete and that was on regular mode not fast. I mean I kept thinking that it was going to build and get more exciting and then it just ended. Also the Adams dude was so stupid and annoying throughout, that by the end, I was not sad to see it done really. (if you have played, him and blue! Ugh) I could see this being interesting for younger kids is my conclusion..Version: 1.0.4

Addictif mais...C’est super mais le jeu est court. Pas de possibilité d’aller plus loin. Je ne l’aurais pas acheté avoir su, même si le prix est minime..Version: 1.0.4

It's okNothing more then average the game is linear. It gives you the illusion of choice. But I guess the only satisfaction to be had out of this game would be to play through one single game without dying on your first attempt. After you die you can alter any decision made this absorbing some fun from it. The only thing worse is that you cannot deviate from the story, you can find out more info or you can push through. Regardless it's the same. It's free so worth a go, works well with the iWatch. Even in the none recommended setting. Although I prefer the iPhone to play this. You can change to fast mode which eliminates all the waiting for Adams to contact you. But that completely ruins the game. If you want a game you can play over and over, don't get this. However if you want something to keep you busy for a few days then go for it. Solid 3/5.Version: 1.0.4

Too many breaksSo far it's quite interesting but there's far too many times where it says "Adam is busy" and you've got to wait until he gets back to you (which can sometimes be around 10 minutes). You can't just sit and dedicate 20 minutes to playing as you have to spend too much time waiting..Version: 1.0.4

Great game for a NarcolepticThis game is 90% waiting for something to happen on the screen, 9% reading dialogue and 1% participation. Seriously.... since when was it a good idea to make a player wait in-excess of 25 minutes for a reply from a character who is “busy”? I get that you want it to be realistic and build the tension, but this is a joke. Not a game recommended for anyone who enjoys intellectual stimulation. Summary of the level of game interaction: 1- Narrative setting the scene 2- Dialogue from simulation character 3- Click A or B to choose character’s path (yay! Interaction!) 4- Excessive dialogue from simulation character 5- Narrative explaining simulation character is busy 6- Wait for anywhere between 1 and 30 mins for dialogue from simulation character (Time to take a nap). 7- Rinse and repeat from step 2..Version: 1.0.4

Why would I give this three starsNow I love the game it's amazing the way they planed this but why did I rate it three stars?? I will tell you that this is based up on guessing and that's fine but this game always leads to the same thing or to the same storyline (spoiler alert) there are two ways you can either follow footprints or go to the mountains but when you go to the mountains you meet a man with no teeth and if you follow the footsteps to the mountains it leads you to the cave where that man lives in and at the end it ends the same there is no difference in the endings no matter what you do which I was pretty disappointed with... if it had different endings I would love this game but now I will leave it at 3 stars.Version: 1.0.4

Not very fun - needs workOk - the first time I played it I thought 'What a great idea for a game! Awesome concept!" Well, after playing I came across a major fault of the game. The main character 'Adams' is basically..... quite frankly a wimp. Talking & giving advise to him is like trying to teach a infant how to walk. Doing the most basic of things this 'Adams' dies quite often. As he walks through the snow (fresh snow in the wilderness), questions if the snow is safe to drink. Really? He dies trying to cross a simple bridge. Again he died in a container cabin from freezing to death when he found firewood & has a flare to light it. Not to mention there was a wood burning stove in the cabin. Great concept!! But playing with 'Adams' is frustrating. Like he would need to ask how to make toast. Maybe another company can take the concept & make a game with a character that actually has a chance. I'm deleting the game. Lame.Version: 1.0.4

Pretty lameAll this game consists of is some dude texting you with periodic moments where you get one of two choices to provide him feedback. I found it boring. As well, there are periods where you have to wait because the dude (Adam) is doing something. I don’t like sitting and staring at my phone or watch while the game pauses before sending more messages. Save your $2.60..Version: 1.0.4

Incompatible with the VoiceOver screen readerI am a fan of these text based games. All of the other stories in this series are completely accessible with Apple's VoiceOver screen reader. However, this is the only game that doesn't work. When I open the app, I hear the music, but attempting to read the screen with VO produces no speech output at all. The screen reader doesn't detect anything in the window. I can't even access the settings or any other menu controls. What's so different about this game compared to the others? The newer games like Crisis Line and Flat Line are completely usable with VoiceOver. I hate to give such a low rating for these games, but I can't even play it to see if I like the story. I hope the developers can make the text visible to VoiceOver. I will also be contacting the developers to see if I can help improve the accessibility of this game. I'd hate to miss a part of this story just because the app doesn't work as well as it could. Having said all that, I look forward to more games in the future. I hope they are as accessible as all the other games have been. Keep up the great work..Version: 1.0.4

[Adams is busy]The first lifeline and sequel were so much better. You would actually be able to make a few choices before the character disappears. This game, its every. Single. Choice. Look in the box? [Adams is busy] walk in the snow for like 5 minutes? "Talk to you when I'm done!" Its so aggravating, especially when in the older games you actually could spend time and you could make some choices and get some feedback right away. It feels shoehorned now. The gimmick is full blast and instead of being innovative like the older games were, it becomes a chore because it's every choice. At this point I feel like I'm not even interested in the story because I have no time to even really appreciate it. I have the app open at most for 30 seconds and then its closed..Version: 1.0.4

Fun and compellingI gave this three stars because whilst there are a few choices that bring the story to an end sooner, the main storyline generally guides itself and the choices don't matter all that much. The concept was great and, although limited by what can be programmed into an app, was engaging enough to keep a player interested. The use of real-time for pauses and similar gave a good feel to the interaction. I have to put this because when reading, the quality of the writing does matter but the spelling and grammar mistakes kind of spoilt the atmosphere and snapped the reader out of game world with a disappointing jolt of a error. These things can happen, but definitely some proof-reading could be helpful because seeing things like center instead of centre and humor instead of humour made work for the reader that detracted from the engagement in an otherwise smooth and interesting experience. It would have been far more enjoyable without these hiccoughs that snapped us out of the imagination for a bit. Look forward to another.Version: 1.0.4

Only an exchange of texts....!No videos, no sounds, no photos... only texting ! Dull game..Version: 1.0.4

Vraiment très décevant.Je suis vraiment très déçu, car cette version n'est pas du tout accessible avec VoiceOver..Version: 1.0.4

Will try the others in the series. With so many fail states and without any real hints as to what the correct path is the game becomes a frustrating sequence of trial and error - and the story disjointed. After the 2nd or 3rd death the sense of attachment to the main character is lost along with the will to continue on. The idea is great and I hope - as indicated in reviews - better executed in earlier releases..Version: 1.0.4
