Axis & Allies 1942 Online for Positive User Reviews

Best games everMate this game is soooo good..Version: 1.0.17

Better than the board game version. A must have. After playing this version, I can’t go back to playing the board game version, this is much better. The mechanics are flawless, it’s quicker, cleaner, and overall a fantastic game. The developers nailed it. I hope they create other online versions of the other axis and allies games..Version: 1.0.17

Good Start of a Great GameOne of the best board games ever and finally we see an app. But it is the most buggy game on my device. 1) freezes after rd 1 of combat. I have to exit app and come back in to continue 2) Ranked play is ridiculous. im matched against much more experienced players 3) I suspect a player forfeited game because either he tanked it or got bored. would be great to be able to mute other players you dont want to play. keep working on it.Version: 1.0.4

NiceeeAwesome game Crash sometimes but just close it and open it again. Hey development team, will you work on a iron blitz edition in the future? :D.Version: 1.0.11

Works well on iPad, not at all on iPhone4*s for the iPad version - the AI is a little “odd” sometimes (eg attacking India with fighters only - what’s that all about?) and often reacts to moves rather than preempts, but it’s a great tool for trying out new tactics for when you’re playing tournament games with people, or custom games with friends - both of which work really well in the app, as does pass & play if you’re all together but can’t set up a board. Interface works well once you’re used to it, even the transport pick up/drop off. Stability ok and reboots fast enough if it does get “confused”. However, 1* or less for the iPhone version - it just doesn’t work yet.Version: 1.0.9

ExcellentAxis and Allies is a excellent strategy game which strengthens the mind and has good game mechanics. I only have one criticism: The game doesn't contain research and tech, which I think should be added as a option. (The original/50th anniversary edition could also be added game modes too)..Version: 1.0.17

Glad I took the chance!Man, the reviews gave me a lot of hesitancy before dropping the $10 on this game, but I’m STOKED with the few hours of (single player, vs AI’s) gameplay so far! Most negative reviews mention that the game doesn’t work on iPhone, but given the fact that the description points this out and recommends only using on iPad, I rolled the dice and am glad I did. I had searched the App Store and the online for YEARS for an axis and Allies game and am so happy to finally have a way to play this game that accommodates a lifestyle (married, kids, job) that prevents me from playing the way we all did back in high school/college with the boys. thanks for the epic game, devs!!!!.Version: 1.0.17

Don’t listen to all the hateI have been waiting for an online version of this game for over a decade. This game does not disappoint! They have streamlined everything into a sensible online platform and made this great game accessible to everyone who has a phone! Are there glitches?? Yes! They have to fix this up a bit bc it crashes all the time. But it never loses you game or even a round and all you have to do it reload the game and you are right where you were. Annoying? Obsoletely. But give them some time and I’m sure they will figure it out. This is a hasboro wizards of the coast game. They aren’t going to just ignore the problems. Having said all that, if someone from the A&A team reads this PLEASE fix IPC bombing. You can’t go into negative with IPC bombing. You can only get up to the territory value, not into negatives. This is really messing up long games and would be so happy if they could fix it. Thanks for a good game that I know will get better. I waited long enough to have online A&A; I can wait for the bugs to get worked out while conquering the world in the mean time..Version: 1.0.9

Very well doneThe UI enhancements made on both the iPad version and the latest Mac/PC version have made the game much easier to play. It is now much easier to move units by transports in all the ways allowed by the rules. The game plays very fast with smooth animations on my 2018 iPad Pro. The AI is “good enough” but not great. It does some boneheaded moves fairly often, but also sometimes surprises you with something unexpected. However the game is really meant to be played against other humans and in this respect it really shines with the ability to leave messages for your allies in the game, review previous player turns, and rock-solid cloud syncing. This is is one of the best board game ports that I’ve seen. I like the fact that they offer the Larry Harris Gencon starting option, in fact this was essential as the basic 1942 start favors the Axis far too much. What I would like to see in the future are additional starting layouts, maybe even different start years, to add some variety to the game. This would help keep the game fresh for veteran players..Version: 1.0

FINALLY!!I have been waiting for a faithful A&A port to mobile in forever, and having the ability to see Lesley flip back and forth with my connected steam account? Amazing. While it took a few steps to connect it to steam, once done it was a simple task to hop right into the games. Controls are simple to learn, zoom in and out is basic finger swipes, I’m a happy camper. Here is to hoping some of the OTHER A&A versions (1914? A&A and Zombies?) get the same treatment. Looking forward to losing many many hours for this well priced game. Since the board game is $100, I’m happy to drop $10. Thanks again!.Version: 1.0

Good but could be GREAT!If you love Axis vs Allies you’ll like this game and why its a 4 good but not great. However I highly recommend the developer to think of adding a paid premium account like Risk online. You could have a free for all version with messages allowed to any player to organize alliances. You could also include things like political events where neutral countries declare war certain aggressors. You could also add trade conveys that need protection, inciting revolts in countries. But what could happen initially is free for all mode on this map and another bigger map too. Also a WW1 version would be awesome and even a 16th and 17th century version would be cool with ships, cavalry, and infantry to mix things up.Version: 1.0.17

Online mode not workingSometimes when I get on it will frequently ask me to sign in with apple and use a touch ID. Once i do that it still will not load in. So, I close the app and turn my wifi on and off, and it still refuses to load me in. I’ve already lost 8 games to this and I am hoping that a developer responds to this. This is such a shame that a great game like this has so many issues. Love this game, Not the glitches.Version: 1.0.17

YES!!I’m doing handsprings! We at last have a functional solo and multi-player version of A&A for mobile. The AI could be stronger, but who really is getting this game for exclusive solo play? I haven’t found any game breaking bugs as of this posting. The game is worth every penny and I’d be happy to toss the devs a reasonable monthly subscription fee to support further development of additional versions of A&A. Well done, Beamdog and Overhaul!.Version: 1.0

Doesn’t work well on iPhone but recommend checking out computerI bought this game for my PC through steam and it works great. Decided to try downloading it for my phone so I could play it while taking breaks at work. When playing on the iPhone be prepared for near constant crashes and issues (I actually found the game worked better on my iPhone 8 than my new iPhone 13). I’d currently recommend playing on PC if you can but would wait to get the phone version until a more playable version comes out.Version: 1.0.9

It’s working nowI read the other reviews about the app, that it’s glitchy and constantly crashes but I love a&a1942 so I gave it a try. I’ve had it for a month now haven’t crashed once. my biggest issue is how to win with the allies. One thing I did notice about this app , i think it was available a while ago and then it was taken off the App Store. I guess they took it off so they can fix the bugs?.Version: 1.0.17

Great for Playing on iPad ProI own the table top version and were thinking to get the online version on my iPad Pro. First that I read the reviews I was skeptical but when watched Trent Oster (CEO of BeamDog) interview about the game decided to give it a chance. Best money spent on a mobile game! saves me a lot time preparing the set and packing it back. It’s great for offline playing and trying out new strategies. So proud that a Canadian company finally created a nice online version of A&A Thanks BeamDog team!.Version: 1.0.9

Finally!I have been waiting for an official mobile version of A&A as long as I've owned a smartphone; I've been playing this game since I was a kid. The initial version on Steam had a weird UI and wasn't all that great to play, but since they overhauled it a few months back, it's just awesome. I've played through two games on the iPad and have had zero stability problems. I'm SO stoked to have this awesome adaptation at my fingertips..Version: 1.0.1

Fixed Black ScreenThank you guys for fixing the black screen issue! No more reloads or black screen issues. Game plays as it should. One of my favorite games on iOS. If you read the bad reviews just know that there was a major issue causing the entire screen to be black but they fixed it! Redownloaded the game just now!.Version: 1.0.17

AwesomeI’ve got the PC version and had no issues logging in with my steam account. To be honest I prefer the iPad version over pc 👍🏻. Keep up the good work..Version: 1.0

Love itGot my AA fix on ios after waiting for ages! Easy to use and works a treat 👍🏼.Version: 1.0.17

Step in the right direction but needs more work...This game is great. The app does need chat though and the ability to modify rules for custom games like adding paratroopers etc. Still has loading issues on my phone even at lowest game settings and I have Iphone 12 Pro Max. I also cannot link my profile with this game on PC which is frustrating. Won't let me login with Apple ID on PC. The AI isn't the worst but there's no difficulty option so once you are decent playing against AI is a joke. I do appreciates they use the Gencon setup though. Overall I am happy to actually be able to play it since that wasn't an option for months..Version: 1.0.17

A&A on iOS? Forgive the bugs and celebrate! As a lifelong A&A fan, I was thrilled to see this title made available on iOS. A&A was originally designed as a very big board game. 35 years ago, the board came in three large pieces and had hundreds of miniature that need to be crammed into small territories. Translating A&A to a playable computer game faithful to the original is not easy (there have been multiple attempts). Beamdog has done a phenomenal job with their PC version of the game, and they have ported it well to the iPad! Is it a little buggy? Yes. But the bugs are tolerable and well worth the minor nuisances. This is a must have game for anyone who loves the board game..Version: 1.0.12

Game doesn’t work on my iPhone 12 ProTried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling. When I start the app it simply does not load. Not a black screen but rather a cloud screen then just blanks back to my phone screen. Went looking for an update but no luck (I’m guessing that any patches would already be in the app as I downloaded it only a couple days ago. Giving 3 stars based on other reviews that get to actually play the game AND the fact that I used to play this as a board game and absolutely love it. Please fix this and I’ll be happy. Edit: my mistake, I needed to (and have) updated my iOS and since everything works as it should. Great game and 5 stars for it!.Version: 1.0.17

Not as bad as some put itI was worried from the reviews of iPhone users. And from my experience it’s not as bad as ppl make it seem. App does crash and freezes from time to time. (During launch) just close and restart. No biggie..Version: 1.0.12

HappyWork well love it.Version: 1.0.17

Fun but problemsProblem 1: Sometimes a small translucent rectangle appears on the screen and disrupts ones ability to use various menu options. Balance Issue 1: Germany is overpowered navally to the point that they can eliminate the Royal Navy within a turn or two and prevent any RN from being rebuilt. Balance Issue 2: The Blitzkrieg mechanic makes tanks too powerful given the scale of the map sectors. Balance Issue 3: Submarines cannot be attacked by aircraft which completely contradicts the historical reality of the Battle of the Atlantic. Suggestion: To give some national variations I think giving each nation one or two units that cost less for them would be interesting and a small production increase of 4-5 IPC per turn for the United States would seem appropriate. Overall the game is a lot of fun to play, but beware the Computer AI for the Soviet Union is horrible and always collapses without direct Allied support..Version: 1.0

Very impressiveI play this all the time. Really good implementation on the iPad. Using the touch interface feels so natural when zooming, scrolling, and selecting elements. Sure there were some initial hiccups with earlier releases but latest version is solid. My only wish is for a tougher computer opponent.Version: 1.0.9

At last!I've been waiting for this since forever! The game have early release issue, but all very small compared to endless enjoyment this game provide..Version: 1.0.1

Now worksBugs now fixed in iOS so happy to recommend..Version: 1.0.17

Current Version is GoodUsed to play on STEAM but I like this better. Intuitive and easy to use and links up to STEAM players and App only players. Convenient to play on the phone..Version: 1.0.17

Love This GameSo much easier to play than setting up a board and moving pieces around. I’ve put in countless hours and will continue to keep playing. I play exclusively on the app so it can be done. It’s not perfect. Some issues with the game freezing and crashing. Close, reopen and it works fine. Where the game shines is in the matchmaking. You will play your own skill level and if you’re good enough, you will get to play against the top players in the world. You can’t do that playing against your buddies once a year (if you’re lucky) in a physical board. If you’re a fan of axis and allies, you won’t regret spending a few bucks on this game..Version: 1.0.17

Now Works well on iOS — some feature requests would help though!I’m loving this version of A&A, and I can assure readers that the iOS version is now very playable following the bug fixes. I play on an iPad and it gobbles my battery but otherwise runs smooth on high settings. Feature requests: * being able to edit non-combat moves during mobilisation would prevent some simple mistakes from ruining a game that has had a lot of time put into it * being able to continue games with the AI following a forfeit or standard victory (ie: to continue to world dom) would increase ability to practice and learn about later round play even if the result looks inevitable to the losing side who understandably won’t want to play it out. * some way of at least downloading the game stats from all rounds (income, power etc) — a chart showing how they change each round would be best. Maybe a stacked bar chart? * being able to switch sides mid game * landing/loading onto friendly carriers/transports.Version: 1.0.17

Great online version of a classicEnjoying this game quite a bit. The pace of the single player games allows you to practice different strategies. The game is easy to navigate and emulates the board game quite well. Saves you the 30 minutes of set up..Version: 1.0

Fun and exciting like A&A should bePerhaps it is because i have an older phone (iphone SE) but I have had very few glitches. Said glitches are no worse than any other game out there that I’ve played. And I get to play Axis and Allies against multiple opponents testing new strategies all from my handy dandy phone. I think the game is great. The app is not perfect but that’s a unicorn and I haven’t seen one of those yet..Version: 1.0.12

Awesome Game!I think this game had some issues in the past before I downloaded it hence the really low rating. I almost didn’t buy it due to all the bad reviews but I’m so glad I gave it a shot, the game works perfectly on my iPhone 13 Pro and worked perfectly on my 11 pro max before this. This is my favorite board game but it’s so tough to find the time to play with friends so I’m so glad they made a mobile app! Now if only they could make the 1940 version with France, ANZAC, Italy, and China….Version: 1.0.17

Recommend it!Downloaded to see what its about. Always enjoy a strategy game where I have the option play single player mode and with others if I choose. Great to play at your own pace. Nice interface and UX design as well!.Version: 1.0

Just like the board gameDifficult but winnable at least as the Axis. Realistic dice and really good fun.Version: 1.0.17

Good game but a little riggedI really liked the setup and I thought that the game had really good quality but there was a few important rules that were never put in. The computer has the upper hand because the rolling of the dice is always in there favor. Also it makes some moves that if you tried it would say you couldn’t. I was really exited when I saw this come out but now I feel a little sad at some key things that they had to fix that never got fix. I can name one where you are in the nook of a island and you get to rile dice to see if you can get extra IPCs but they never put that rule in. The game feels rigged and it feels like you can’t win that often and that the computer is a little overpowered. I might just be bad but I have played this game for a long time and I know a few good things about the game. I hope that the people who made the game can look back and try to fix it a little more so that people can enjoy the victory or know that they lost in a fair but hard game. Besides that the game is amazing and I fully recommend this game because it very good and you can get some good life skills because of it. I hope that beemdog will listen because he made a great game and should make other amazing games like this..Version: 1.0.17

Great except for occasional bugsUpdate: back to 5 stars as they fixed the game breaking bug Original review: Love the app, but the previously fixed black screen bug is back and I can’t load it on any iPad (tried it on two separate devices with different iOS versions). Literally unplayable until that’s fixed because you can’t get past the login screen..Version: 1.0.17

Great iOS Adaptation of a ClassicMy initial expectations were low based on some of the earlier reviews of the game crashing, but must say that I have been pleasantly surprised. Well designed game UI, good graphics, and it works pretty flawlessly on my iPad Pro (4th generation). For a game with such a large board, the zoom-in and zoom-out functions were very intuitive. Would love to see different difficulty levels when playing against the computer, but so far it’s been fun and just challenging enough..Version: 1.0.17

Good game butI have some bugs I was in a battle and after 5 roles I dice I did not get a single hit I don’t know if this is apart of the luck or if it’s a bug also my first time playing THE AI WENT RAGE ON ME can you please make a easier mode for new people? Good fun game though I like it and in the top 3 best strategy games in my opinion thank you..Version: 1.0.17

Come on developers…Y’all are awesome. Y’all have made a great A&A game on steam. I know y’all care about this community! Keep working on this mobile edition because as of right now, it’s only barely playable. A&A is me and two of my brother’s favorite game, but I can’t in good conscience tell them to buy this app until I can make it 5 minutes before the game crashes. As the game improves I will definitely change my rating, but for now, this is not a 5 star game even though it has the potential! Edit: I changed the input settings to be less sensitive and that helped exponentially. There are still some bugs I’m hoping are being worked on and the game drain my battery like crazy, but in all the game is great now that I messed with the settings!.Version: 1.0.17

Love axis and alliesSo me and a group of friends have loved axis and allies as the table top. The game itself is great and I would play it.Unfortunately this game doesn’t seem to be optimized for the iPhone. Overheating issues, while being on the “low” setting. Perhaps in the future if it were to become more optimized we will try it again. Until then it is sadly put on the back burner. And we will continue with our tabletop games! Though I am sure with a PC this game is great!.Version: 1.0.17

Good but not as good as bored gameI am a long time fan of of axis and allies and think that the bored game is the best bored game I have ever played but this mobile version is good but not as good. The main things I find annoying are that you can’t place the plane in the country once you take it and that you can put a British soldier in an American transport and vice Versa. But overall it is a good game but expensive..Version: 1.0.17

Best game ever!!This is the best game I have ever played. I loved it as a kid playing the board game, but as an adult I do not have time to play for 5+ hours straight that are necessary to play a full game. The developers solved that problem and structured the game to play when you are available! I am now enjoying the ability to play A&A against my friends or anyone online. Awesome ranking system available too!! I just earned Platinum status. I can’t say enough great things about how they created this game! Fantastic job!! Thank you to the developers!!.Version: 1.0.17

Fantastic with one little drawbackThis is a fantastic game, I got it since family doesn’t won’t to play the board game. I have read bad reports about black screens and not starting, but those are on newer phones why’ll I have an iPhone 6 and it works perfectly fine. The only problem I have is that Apple is letting me use my Apple account to sign in, please make other ways to sign in. This would be very helpful..Version: 1.0.17

Please fixLove every aspect of this game, except the issue everybody else seems to be having. Black screen ALMOST ALL THE TIME! I bought this because I love A&A so much and hoped everybody else’s problems would just be a bunch of whiners with minimal issues. I wouldn’t recommend buying this game to anyone till these reviews start turning around. iPhone 12 Pro here. Please fix ASAP Update: Just turned off the simulated dice rolling and everything runs much better! Still not perfect but hardly ever crashes anymore. Great game!.Version: 1.0.9
